He added that the permanent site would be standard as other international exhibitions across the globe.<br /> <br /> The Governor said this during his visit to the ongoing 2019 Lagos International Trade Fair, taking place at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.<br /> <br /> Over two thousand foreign and local exhibitors are participating in the 33rd Edition of the fair which has the theme: “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value.”<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The Governor, who was led on the tour by Mr. Babatunde Ruwase, President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the fair was an avenue for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their products to the world.<br /> <br /> He said: “I am here on an on the spot assessment and going round few of the pavilions at the trade fair. As you can see, I have to come in here to encourage our MSMEs that are on display.<br /> <br /> “This is a real governance and collaborative initiative. This is an annual event, but we need to upscale it” he added.<br /> <br /> Sanwo-Olu commended the LCCI for keeping faith with MSMEs, adding that it shows the can-do spirit of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> The 10-day fair, which opened on Nov. 1, will come to an end on Nov. 10.

Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State.<br /> <br /> The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the five-man panel in two separate judgments, upheld Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 9 poll and dismissed the appeal by governorship candidates of Labour Party (LP) and Alliance for Democracy (AD).<br /> <br /> The two parties and their candidates had appealed the Sep. 23 judgment of the Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal which upheld Sanwo-Olu’s victory.<br /> <br /> The appellate court in both judgments upheld the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal that the appellants failed to prove that Sanwo-Olu was not competent to contest the March 9 governorship poll by virtue of his alleged mental incompetence.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> It noted that the Election Tribunal had observed that no scintilla of evidence was placed before it including newspaper publication proving Sanwo-Olu’s alleged mental incompetence.<br /> <br /> The appellate court upheld the Tribunal’s decision that no proof of allegation of collusion and assault against officers of the Nigerian Army was provided by the appellants.<br /> <br /> It upheld the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision that the appellants did not provide sufficient proof of electoral malpractice at the polling units against the respondents.<br /> <br /> The appellate court ordered that a cost of N200,000 be awarded against the appellants in favour of six of the seven respondents (except for the Commissioner of Police) in both appeals. The costs will be a total of N2.4million.<br /> <br /> Reading the lead judgment on behalf of the five-man panel in the appeal by the LP, Justice Hannatu Sankey said the appeal was lacking in merit and hence dismissed.<br /> <br /> “I hereby uphold the judgment of the Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal,” she said.<br /> <br /> Reacting, Mr Bola Aidi, counsel to the appellants said he was grateful for the judgment.<br /> <br /> “I am grateful for the judgment and I thank my lord for the expeditious hearing of the case,” he said.<br /> <br /> Mr Victor Okpara, counsel to Sanwo-Olu and the APC also thanked the bench for the judgment.<br /> <br /> “I want to thank the bench for the well considered judgment. It was faultless and flawless,” he said.<br /> <br /> Reading the lead judgment on behalf of the five-man panel in the appeal by the AD, Justice Ayobode Shodipe said the appeal was lacking in merit hence dismissed.<br /> <br /> “The seven issues of the appellant are hereby resolved against him,” he said.<br /> <br /> Aidi,counsel to AD said “once again we want to show appreciation for the judgment.”<br /> <br /> Mr K.O Shobayo and Mr J. It is needed for people to achieve goals, develop and remain innovative,” Bello-Barkindo said.<br /> <br /> He noted that the Core Working Group (CWG) of the plan led by Yosola Akinbi of the Vive President’s Office, commenced its sensitisation tour in Kaduna State.<br /> <br /> He said that Akinbi at the state met with Gov. Nasir el-Rufai and the state’s HCD Focal Person, Sagir Ahmed.<br /> <br /> Bello-Barkindo, however, noted that in spite of the strides of the HCD project in Kaduna State, drug addiction was impeding the progress of youths.<br /> <br /> He added that drug addiction was also the cause of crimes in the state.<br /> <br /> On his part, the NGF Chairman and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi pledged total commitment to the vision of the HCD.<br /> <br /> Fayemi said that several HCD plans initiated during his previous administration were jettisoned by his predecessor, adding that they were now gradually being returned to the governance tray.<br /> <br /> Bello-Barkindo disclosed that the CWG also visited the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Council, the Alawe of Ilawe, Oba Adebanji Alabi as well as some youth groups in the state.<br /> <br /> Alabi told the CWG that while Ekiti State was the fountain of knowledge it was still groaning under the weight of adult-illiteracy because most elderly people were left behind in erudition.<br /> <br /> The youths said that though they were allowed to make input into the budget, they would still like a bigger role in the state.

Both of them were elected on a joint ticket, so Osinbajo should not resign,” he said.<br /> <br /> He urged the Vice President to remain loyal to the President and serve the country “patriotically.”<br /> <br /> He said, “Osinbajo should remain god-fearing and people-centred in his activities and in the end, he will be vindicated.<br /> <br /> “No matter the motivation of some 2023 presidential aspirants against him, he should remain steadfast in what he is doing in the past four years that are acceptable to Nigerians and to God.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Presidency on Friday admitted that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the sacking of some aides to Osinbajo.<br /> <br /> It came after days of silence from the President’s office and barely 24 hours after the VP’s aide denied that any Osinbajo aide was sacked.<br /> <br /> The Presidency stated that the aides were sacked as part of the ongoing overhauling in the seat of government to cut costs.<br /> <br /> A State House statement by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, which officially confirmed the sacking, denied that the exercise was targeted at Osinbajo or that there existed any rift between Buhari and Osinbajo.<br /> <br /> The statement read, “The Presidency wishes to confirm that there is an ongoing unprecedented overhaul of the nation’s seat of government, arising from which a number of political appointments have either been revoked or not renewed in the second term.<br /> <br /> “The exercise, which has been ordered by the President, is to streamline decision-making, cut down multiple authorities and reduce the cost of administration.<br /> <br /> “It is also an appropriate response to the general perception that the Presidency has an oversized and bloated workforce which acts as a drag on efficiency.”<br /> <br /> It added, “As may have been noticed by discerning members of the public, a number of political appointees among the few that served in the office of the President were not returned for the second term.<br /> <br /> “The office of the Vice President, His Excellency, Yemi Osinbajo, has, in compliance with the directive of the President, equally been shed of a number of such appointees.<br /> <br /> “In carrying out these exercises, the overriding objective is to save taxpayers’ money and deliver the needed service to the public. As far as the President is concerned, there is no scope for an excuse for administration after getting a huge mandate to run the country for four more years.”<br /> <br /> Denying that rift existed between Buhari and Osinbajo, the Presidency insisted that their relationship remained cordial.<br /> <br /> He said, “In the light of this, the Presidency wishes to strongly deny rumours of a rift between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. The relationship between the two leaders remains excellent and trusting. Together, they will script a glorious future for the nation.<br /> <br /> “The media reports of a sour relationship are originating from the minds and mouths of mischief-makers, who are desperate for entertaining stories from the Aso Rock Villa with which to titillate the public. This ulterior motive is the basis of the wrong interpretation given to the recent exercise in the Presidency.<br /> <br /> “There has been a streamlining of staff going on for a while. The President has always had fewer members of staff than the Vice-President, and there were always plans to reduce the number of staff at the Villa.”<br /> <br /> The VP’s spokesperson, Mr Laolu Akande, had, in his comment on Thursday, dismissed the sacking of 35 of his boss’s aides.<br /> <br /> “A list circulating in the media on the so-called sacked presidential aides is not genuine and ought to be ignored,” he had said.

When my wife called me the next day, I thought she was trying to trick me. I just broke down and cried but I had to pull myself together and start calling people. Godson Echejue, Mr Abubakar Umar and Sodimu of $1.2 million.<br /> <br /> While being led in evidence by Mr M. F. Owede, the EFCC’s Prosecuting Counsel, Sodimu told the court that he first got to know Ramirez and his company in 2013 through an advertisement in the Guardian Newspapers for an Employment-based Fifth Preference (EB-5) American Investment programme.<br /> <br /> “The advert in the paper said that USA Now LLC, is the regional centre for the EB-5 Investment Programme and that one can invest $500,000 in the investment.<br /> <br /> “It stated that by investing $500,000, the investor and his children under 21-years of age will be issued a U.S. Green Card, which implies permanent residency in the U.S.”<br /> <br /> Sodimu told the court that after seeing the advert, he verified the authenticity of the programme and that he found out online that such programme exists and that he attended a seminar which was advertised in the newspapers to be holding in Eko Hotels.<br /> <br /> He said that at the seminar, Ramirez gave a lecture and that after the lecture, he had a meeting with Ramirez.<br /> <br /> “The defendant mentioned that a number of Nigerians have benefited from the programme and that they had either received green card or are about to get green card through his offers.<br /> <br /> “He presented Umar who is the second Prosecution Witness (PW2) in this case as someone who had paid his $500,000 and Umar’s process had gotten to the final stage and he was about to do his medicals.<br /> <br /> “I believed him and I chose to participate. I met him several times after that day to verify his claims and make enquiries. He gave me a brochure that had some explanations and stated that had he had American Government backing for the programme.<br /> <br /> “He gave me a pre-qualification questionnaire. I filled it and he took it back to the United States.<br /> <br /> “I got an email from a lady he told me was his personal assistant. Based on the responses on the questionnaire I was given sets of forms and requirements I had to meet,” he said.<br /> <br /> The businessman said he was required to pay $500,000 to a separate account called an investment account and that he was required to pay an additional $45,000 for administrative fees into the defendant’s bank account.<br /> <br /> “He said that being an investment, the $500,000 is repayable with interest after five-years. I read through the agreement given to me before paying a kobo.<br /> <br /> “The agreement made it clear that all the money, including the $45,000 is refundable if the investor is not accepted by the American Government.”<br /> <br /> Sodimu said that in June 2013, he paid the $45,000 administrative fee in five tranches within a week and two months later he paid $100,000 which was the first instalment of the $500,000 investment fee.<br /> <br /> “As at the time the $100,000 was transferred, I had the whole money but in naira. The banking regulation is that one can only register such amount of money from the inflow from the proceeds of export.<br /> <br /> “At the time I could only get $100,000 in tranches and the defendant was putting so much pressure on me.”<br /> <br /> Sodimu said that while he was figuring out how he was going to get the balance of the $500,000 investment fee, he found out via the internet that Ramirez and his spouse were under investigation by the FBI in America for fraud.<br /> <br /> “When I saw the news report, I was very worried and very concerned. I called Marco and I told him what I saw on the internet. He confirmed it but said it was just a minor problem and it will soon be resolved.<br /> <br /> “I took a flight to the U.S. a few days later to find out what was going on and I had a meeting with him and from the discussion I realised things were far worse than he claimed on the phone.<br /> <br /> “I spoke to his lawyer and officials of the Securities and Exchange Commission in Texas and I found out that he was under investigation by the FBI, following a petition by his victims.<br /> <br /> “When it became obvious that I could have been duped, I remembered some people I saw during the seminar and I made some phone calls and I was able to identify four people who were in similar or worse situations than mine.”<br /> <br /> Sodimu told the court that he and other alleged victims of the American made several fruitless efforts to contact him to refund their money.<br /> <br /> When they realised they had been duped, Sodimu said they petitioned the EFCC through the law firm of Festus Keyamo and Co.<br /> <br /> He said that in 2015, he and the other victims learnt that Ramirez was still coming to Nigeria to transact businesses.<br /> <br /> He said the American was apprehended by the anti-graft agency during one of his business visits to Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “Till now he has not paid me back the $145,000 neither has he issued me a green card,” Sodimu said.<br /> <br /> NAN reports that according to the EFCC, Ramirez committed the offences between February 2013 and August 2013 in Lagos.<br /> <br /> He is alleged to have defrauded Sodimu, Amb. Godson Echejue and Mr Abubakar Umar of a total of $1.2 million.<br /> <br /> The offences contravene Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, No. 14 of 2006. For continuation of trial.<br /> <br /> Justice Mojisola Dada adjourned the case till Nov. 13 for continuation of trial.

They don’t have the right to dictate.<br /> <br /> “They will only obey the provisions of the Act, and as good citizens, we (committee) stand on the provisions of the NDDC Act,” she noted.<br /> <br /> Nunieh said the forensic audit ordered by Buhari would enable the NDDC to recover funds stolen from the commission since 2001.<br /> <br /> She urged the youths to go back to their communities, assuring them of the commission’s determination to bring development to all communities in the region.<br /> <br /> “So, anywhere you come from in the Niger Delta, the NDDC is coming to your villages. Amongst these are the 2.5million dollars in partial recovery. We also have 75million dollars connected to the Malabu transactions”.<br /> <br /> He stressed that government was after suspects who had dipped their hands in government coffer by targeting their assets.<br /> <br /> Also, Magu, said the commission had secured 890 convictions from January to October 2019.<br /> <br /> He said in 2015, the commission recorded 114 convictions, adding that in 2016, it recorded 189 convictions.<br /> <br /> Magu disclosed that the commission recorded 190 convictions in 2017 and 300 in 2018, stressing that these convictions were achieved by using preventive approaches.<br /> <br /> Mohammed noted that the anti-graft fight was still a war in progress, noting that the achievement of other key programmes was closely intertwined with the success of the war.<br /> <br /> He explained that the town hall meeting was organised to intimate Nigerians with the successes recorded, get their feedback and win their support for the crusade.<br /> <br /> He said: “The fight against corruption is one of the three cardinal programmes of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, with the others being the war against insecurity and the revamping of the economy.<br /> <br /> ”This is not the first time Nigeria is fighting the canker worm of corruption. But it is the first time that the fight is being backed by a strong political will, with a President renowned for his honour, dignity and incorruptibility personally leading the fight. And that is making all the difference, as you will soon hear from our panellists.<br /> <br /> ”One may say that the war against corruption is still a war in progress. But, it is also fair to say that corruption has now been driven under the table, and that corrupt ones can no longer flaunt the proceeds of their corruption the way they used to do in the past. That is a major step forward. After all, every successful battle is a step towards winning a war.<br /> <br /> ”The war against corruption is a war of survival for Nigeria. This is because the success of the other key programmes of the government, revamping the economy and tackling insecurity, is closely intertwined with how well the nation is able to fight corruption. For as long as the nation fails to check corruption, tackling insecurity and the revamping the economy will remain a mirage. In other words, the fight against corruption is pivotal to the success of the other cardinal programmes of the administration.<br /> <br /> “I want to reiterate that the anti-corruption war is not Buhari’s war, It is Nigeria’s war. Hence, the need for every citizen to support it. Part of the efforts to win the support of Nigerians is to carry them along every inch of the way.<br /> <br /> “Today’s Special Town Hall Meeting on the ‘Fight Against Corruption’ fits into that effort, as it provides an opportunity for the major stakeholders in the Federal Government’s battle against corruption to give account of their stewardship, and for Nigerians to have the opportunity to interact with them, ask them questions and also make suggestions. This way, we can all be on the same page as far as this war of survival is concerned.”<br /> <br /> The Ministry of Information and Culture launched the Town Hall Meeting series in Lagos on April 25, 2016 to provide a platform for the Federal Government to regularly give account of its stewardship to the people.<br /> <br /> The government, through the event, also get feedback and input from the people to enhance citizens’ participation in governance.<br /> <br /> The special town hall meeting on the fight against corruption is the 17th edition of the programme.

Fashola should ask NTA cameramen to follow the route, to and fro, and he will be palpably shocked.<br /> <br /> “Minna to Abuja is so close; let Fashola and his officials go on a visit to IBB and Abdulsalami at the Hilltop. Ore-Benin has gone bad again. People are complaining everyday and everywhere about the poor state of the roads.<br /> <br /> “I am from Ijebu-Ode, just 100km from Lagos. In almost one year, I have not been to my town, because going from Lekki is now unthinkable because of the bad roads, even from Lekki to Epe.<br /> <br /> “Epe to Ijebu-Ode is horrible. Epe to Ketu is equally horrible and Ketu to Omu-Ijebu-Ode is bad.<br /> <br /> “Worst of all, if I decide to go through Ketu-Itoikin-Ijebu-Ode, I will need to buy a new car. All these roads are, unfortunately, federal roads.”<br /> <br /> To appreciate the magnitude of the problem, Onanuga suggested that Fashola should make his phone number and email available to Nigerians.<br /> <br /> “He will be shocked how he will be inundated with complaints about the parlous state of our many critical roads in all the geographical zones.<br /> <br /> “Buhari should order his ministers to stop flying within Nigeria for one year. He himself should routinely endeavour to use the roads, to really understand the dilapidation of the roads and why the N260bn capital budget for 2020 is simply laughable,” Onanuga said.<br /> <br /> Similary, the member of the House of Representatives representing Ede-North/Ede-South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State, Mr Bamidele Salam, challenged Fashola to travel by road in the next 90 days.<br /> <br /> The lawmaker said, “I found Fashola’s statement, which had been repeated by the honorable minister on two previous occasions as a clear indication that some of us in public offices are not in tune with the horrendous realities of our fellow citizens’ daily experience.”
