By next week, another batch of the special forces will be deployed to the newly established Quick response wing at Nguroje in Taraba State.<br /> <br /> “In addition, we are putting finishing touches to infrastructure in Keran Plateau State, lpetu ljesha in Osun state, Doma in Nasarawa and Agatu in Benue State to deploy elements of these forces.”he said.<br /> <br /> Abubakar said NAF remain committed to supporting the vision of the government of ensuring a secured and prosperous Nigeria

I am not a pretentious person but the dancing aspect is just a minor aspect of me. I am a deep thinker and solution- finder.<br /> <br /> “For example, in one of my recent visits to one of the local governments in my senatorial district, I came in contact with a group of retirees who said they had always wanted to meet with me because I always exude joy and confidence.<br /> <br /> “These were senior citizens who needed encouragement in their difficult situation occasioned by the failure of the APC government in Osun State.<br /> <br /> “Of course, I spent quality time with them and shared some of the resources God has given to me to make them even happier. That is not our way and I don’t think they will. And I am hoping that we have not reached that stage yet. None of the stakeholders has been called to any meeting. Those who have paid to get forms don’t know where to go or who to issue them form, but we here some forms have been issued at Intels in Port Harcourt.<br /> <br /> “We would like to appeal to the national secretariat of the party to do something about the situation. Forms have not been given to those who bought forms. They protested when they heard that forms were being distributed at Intels. Yakubu Gowon (retd.) which is now making it difficult for President Muhammadu Buhari to rein in rampaging herdsmen.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> He stated that after failing to subdue the people of Biafra in the early weeks of the civil war, Gowon allegedly brought in Fulani soldiers from neighbouring countries to help defeat the people of Biafra with a purported promise that they would be allowed grazing right all the way to eastern region.<br /> <br /> Ikedife, who stated this in an interview with New Telegraph, reasoned that it is on this basis that the herdsmen feel it’s their right to graze wherever, adding that there is little Buhari can do about the situation.<br /> <br /> His words, “Now, it is understood that certain things happened during the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War. Biafra declared its independence on May 30, 1967 and the then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon who was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, said he was declaring a war against Biafra and expected that it would last for few weeks. He then underated the resistance and resolve of the Biafrans.<br /> <br /> “When the thing did not end in three weeks as he expected, he engaged mercenaries who came and fought, took their money and left. But Biafrans did not surrender. Then he was told that the Nigerian troops could take Port Harcourt, that so long as Port Harcourt was in Biafra land, Biafra will not cave in.<br /> <br /> “To reach Port Harcourt, he apparently signed an agreement with the people of Cameroon that they should allow him access through Bakassi area to Port Harcourt and at the end of the war Cameroon should take Bakassi. That was done.<br /> <br /> “He signed that agreement as Nigeria signing away part of Biafran land while at that time Biafra was a sovereign state of its own recognised by some countries and Nigeria should have no legal right to sign away any part of its land.<br /> <br /> “Notwithstanding, Biafra did not fall. Gowon was said to have obliged to enlist help from Muslim soldiers from other West African countries where a good number of them came to help fight and decimated Biafra to bring it back to Nigeria. The condition for that service was that they would be allowed grazing rights all the way down Eastern Region, that was agreed.<br /> <br /> “And it appeared that looking back after the war, Cameroon claimed Bakassi and sacked natives of Bakassi who said they were Nigerians. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo as at that time took the case to the International Court of Justice (ICC) which ruled against Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “Similarly, Fulani herdsmen from neighbouring countries are of the assertion that based on the agreement with the Nigerian government during the civil war, they will graze their cattle at any place they want. And they now have the temerity to sack villages, communities and towns. So when any of them dies, it’s my son or daughter that is dead,” Adeboye said.<br /> <br /> It will be recalled that on April 24, 19 persons, including Reverend Fathers Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha, who were conducting the morning Mass were gunned down in cold blood, while many sustained injuries, including bullet wounds.<br /> <br /> He therefore called on the Buhari led government to urgently end the killings before it dovetails into a religious war.<br /> <br /> Continuing, Pastor Adeboye said: “I am going to ask you to join me in prayer, because unless these killings stop, and stop immediately, even Nigeria may not live. Section 39 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression and that includes freedom to impart knowledge, information and ideas to people.<br /> <br /> “Section 24 of the Constitution stipulates that every citizen is legally bound to assist law enforcement agencies to expose crime in the society to promote law and order in the society,” he said.<br /> <br /> The human rights lawyer had earlier said that he and several other lawyers, including Mr. Festus Keyamo and Mr. Monday Ubani, who were speakers at the ICSAN lecture, were ready to protect genuine whistle-blowers in the country.<br /> <br /> “We will protect any Nigerian who is ready to give the people in authority useful information about looted funds and other corrupt practices, without collecting a dime,” he said.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Falana called on Nigerians to elect technocrats and professionals into the National Assembly during 2019 general elections, “and not core politicians.”<br /> <br /> He said that the current National Assembly members had not made any impact because “they are mostly professional politicians who will not pass any bill into law if it would not serve their personal interests; even if such could be of immense benefit to the country.”<br /> <br /> He added, “It takes a professional to appreciate the value a good bill, when passed into law, will have on the economy and on the common person.”<br /> <br /> Another speaker at the ICSAN public lecture and a consultant on management and financial issues, Dr. Biodun Adedipe, recommended that a legal framework should be created to solve the challenges of rewarding and protecting whistle-blowers.<br /> <br /> “A rate chart for reward should be developed and comprehensive legal protection for the whistle-blower must be provided,” he said.<br /> <br /> Adedipe said research and advocacy on whistle-blowing had blossomed, especially in countries where the policy had been formalised and proven successful in curbing greed that motivates financial crimes and other forms of errant behaviours.<br /> <br /> He said reports from Transparency International revealed that Nigeria’s whistle-blowing scorecard had 8,373 enquiries, while 1,231 tips had been received.</div>

What makes democracy robust is when citizens can freely express themselves, oppose the government and hold public officials accountable without being hounded by the government.<br /> <br /> The Buhari led government of Nigeria must be reminded that power is transient and he will someday account for every atrocity done against the Nigerian people. The latest clampdown on critics of the government using the instrumentality of the state is nothing but political witch-hunting and shameless display of intolerance.<br /> <br /> We are deeply concerned about the new tactics being deployed by the government to frame critics up by cajoling hardened criminals to make confessional statement of being sponsored by opposition leaders as in the case of Shehu Sani and Dino Melaye, both of whom are serving senators and critics of the government.<br /> <br /> Those opposing the government must braze up for similar treatment or worse as what we are witnessing now reminds us of the dark days of Abacha.<br /> <br /> This government has failed to fulfill its most basic function of protecting lives and property of Nigerians.<br /> <br /> The government should be more concerned in protecting Nigerians in Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa and many other parts of Nigeria than this energy they are expending in fighting the opposition and critics.<br /> <br /> We are amazed by the level of impunity and disregard for democratic best practices that is being carried out by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who has constantly disregarded the National Assembly in pursuance of a personal vendetta against Dino Melaye.<br /> <br /> The Inspector General of Police cannot be greater than the National Assembly.<br /> If the IGP is tired of being a policeman, he should resign and obtain APC membership card so Nigerians will know that he is working for his party and not the Nigerian people.<br /> <br /> Nigerians, most especially the opposing voices must fight fiercely to make our nascent democracy work.<br /> Moreover, we are calling on the international community and interest groups to take cognizance of the Nigerian government’s totalitarian attitude and clampdown on dissenting voices.”</div>

The case is not prosecuted by his ICPC but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yet he has in-depth knowledge of what goes on in Chief Metuh’s matter because ICPC and EFCC are in unison that a conviction must occur. This validates Chief Metuh’s outcry at the conspiracy against him by the powers that be.<br /> <br /> According to Nwosu, “The case of Metuh has progressed faster than any other trial that commenced at the same time with it,” adding that “The Prosecution has amended its charges twice, thereby causing delay on its own.”<br /> <br /> He continued: “The accusation that interlocutory appeals have been employed to delay the trail is unfounded. The trial judge in Metuh’s case in his ruling on Metuh’s application for leave to travel for medical reasons delivered on the 19th of April 2018 actually blamed Chief Metuh for not appealing his interlocutory decisions.<br /> <br /> “The Court of Appeal in its judgment on Appeal No: CA/A/159C/2017, between Olisa Metuh vs Federal Republic of Nigeria & Anor, delivered on 29th of September, 2017, held that Metuh, contrary to the trial court’s finding, has not delayed his trial. This decision is subsisting.”<br /> <br /> Condemning what he termed the media trial of his client, the counsel said “neither the prosecution nor the court accepted his request that an independent medical team be assembled to verify the health situation of our client, who is still suffering severe pains and the risk of deterioration.”</div>

The problem of Nigeria will reduce if we don’t steal money.<br /> <br /> “We will hold ourselves accountable to the people of Nigeria, we will express our good leadership, it may be tough but we will move forward. They said we are arresting looters and we have not jailed anybody but we will continue to arrest and put them on trial.”<br /> <br /> He urged the beneficiaries of the interest-free MSME loans to use the money for the purpose it meant and ensure the repayment of the money as and when due.<br /> <br /> In his remarks, the Ondo State Governor, Mr.  Rotimi Akeredolu, said the MSME Clinics, inaugurated in the state was aimed at improving the economic well-being of the people and thus end poverty in the state.<br /> <br /> He said, “Today’s programme further underscores the determination of the Federal Government to drive the country’s economy towards self-reliance, using this platform, as a delivery tool for development.<br /> <br /> “There can be no better demonstration of serious commitment on the part of the government than this direct involvement at the highest level of authority. “<br /> <br /> In her remarks, the Executive Director of the Bank of Industry, Mrs. Toyin Adeniji, said the programme was being organised by the Federal Government to boost small and medium scale business.<br /> <br /> She noted that the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme was also a government initiative being executed by the Bank of Industry, adding that it had  succeeded in given out micro-credit loans to the beneficiaries all over the country.<br /> <br /> “The GEEP has given micro-credit loans to the 774 local governments and the Federal Capital Territory and also we have 600,000 beneficiaries while half of them have received GEEP loans,” Adeniji disclosed.</div>
