Jaypaul, Big Brother Naija season six housemate has said that Beatrice acts like she doesn’t want to be in the house.
Jaypaul told WhiteMoney that the divorcee who had earlier disclosed that she suffered domestic violence in her marriage doesn’t connect with other housemates.
He said, “Nobody seems to have a connection with Beatrice. I was asking her that why did she not come out for the Jacuzzi party last night.
“She did same thing last week, she is behaving like she doesn’t want to be in the house.”

Senator Dino Melaye who represented the Kogi West senatorial district during the 8th National Assembly has denied reports that he informed Nigerians to stop sharing his pictures with suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abass, aka Hushpuppi.
Shortly after Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, was indicted by the United States in the fraud case, reports emerged that Dino Melaye was also involved.
Kyari’s indictment was followed by an order for his arrest, which was issued to the FBI by the US Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California.
However, Dino Melaye in a post on his Twitter page said Nigerians should continue posting his pictures with Hushpuppi because there was no reason not to.

He wrote, “There was never a time l asked people not to post my pictures with Hushpuppi or anyone for that matter because there is no reason to.

Parents of the abducted Bethel Baptist High school, Kaduna are confused and helpless on the continued captivity of their children in the hands of their abductors.
Recall that in the early hours of Monday. 5th July, 2021, bandits stormed Bethel Baptist High School, Damishi, Kaduna and abducted 121 students of the school.
Some students of the school have regained their freedom while others ran away and another set, freed on health ground.
It was reliably gathered that at least, 80 students are still in the hands of their abductors, while about N60 million has been spent as ransom by parents in getting the release of some of the students.

However, the state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. John Joseph Hayab, in an interview with Reuters, explained that the bandits are now asking each parent to pay N1 million on the 80 remaining student under their care, making it a total of N80 million as ransom for their release.
One of the parents of the abducted students who pleaded anonymity said it is the parents of the school that are facing the heat of students’ abductions in the state.
Another parent of the released students explained that he and others went through hell before they could afford the demands of the kidnappers to ensure the release of their children.
According to him, “I had to sell our family farm and other valuable assets at our disposal. Even one of my sons, who is in the university, had to contribute his tuition fee to see that his younger brother regained freedom.”
It is no longer news that the Nasir El-Rufai-led state government has made it abundantly clear not to pay ransom of any kind to kidnappers.
The state government, in its wisdom closed 13 schools considered to be vulnerable to attacks by kidnappers’ base to save such schools from being attacked by bandits.

The Jigawa Government has declared Aug. 9, as public holiday to mark the Hijrah 1443 (Islamic New Year).
The government announced this in a statement signed by the state Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Hussaini Kila, on Saturday in Dutse.
Gov. Muhammad Badaru of the state has urged civil servants and residents to use the day and pray for the state and the country at large.
“The period of the Islamic New Year should remind all people of the countless favours bestowed on them by the Almighty God.

“As such, the people are enjoined to intensify prayers against the outbreak of cholera in some parts of the state that had claimed some lives, as well as for the country to overcome security challenges.
“People should also use the period to reflect and live their lives based on the teachings of Islam and practice of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“During the occasion, it is expected that all public servants and the entire people of the state will also pray to Almighty Allah for continued protection and guidance of our leaders.
“For peace and the economic prosperity of the state and Nigeria at large and be law abiding,” it said.
According to the statement, Badaru also congratulated Muslims around the world on the dawn of the new Islamic year (1443AH).
August 9, 2021, is equivalent to Muharram 1, 1443AH, which marks the beginning of Islamic New Year.
Oyo, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi had also declared a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year of 1443AH on Aug. 9.

Popular actress and movie producer, Rita Dominic has stated that young Nigerians need to take life easy. The co-founder of Audrey Silva Productions made this known as a guest on ‘Phantom Xtraordinaire Show’ hosted by reality Tv star, Tobi Bakre.
Advising young Nigerians she said: “Be diligent with your work. Be serious about whatever you find yourself doing in life. Understand the need to evolve. It is important to evolve constantly because things change. Take life easy, everyone has their own time. We all have our time in life. That it happened at a certain time for A, doesn’t mean it won’t happen at a certain time for B.Just take life easy’.
Asked about one of the highpoints in her career, Dominic said: “The film I featured in was screened at Toronto International Film Festival. ‘76’.We got really good reviews from foreign press. It was amazing.”
She also opened up about her bucket list, adding that she would love to skydive.

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), said the number of active COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increased to 9,066 with 565 additional cases confirmed on Friday.
The NCDC made this known via its verified website on Saturday morning.
The country’s new active case indicates an increase from 9,033 cases, registered a day earlier.
The NCDC stated that 76 people had recovered and were discharged from various isolation centres in the country on Friday.

The Public health agency said that till date, 165,409 recoveries had been recorded nationwide in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to NCDC, Friday’s statistics is the total of reported cases across 16 states of the federation and the FCT.
According to the latest data, Lagos has the highest number of infections with 348 cases. Rivers 70, while Akwa Ibom comes next with 45 infections.
Others were Oyo (36), FCT (24 ), Ekiti (15), Kwara (7), Ogun (7), Gombe (3), Anambra and Kaduna reported 2 cases each, while Bayelsa, Cross River, Edo, Plateau, Kano and Sokoto registered one case respectively.
The NCDC added that Nasarawa, Ondo, and Osun reported zero cases as of Friday.
The agency stated the country had confirmed 177,142 cases, noting that 2,178 people had died in 36 states and the FCT.
It added that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continued to coordinate the national response activities.
It said that the country had also tested more than 2.5 million samples for the virus out of the country’s roughly 200 million population.
The NCDC said that the country’s COVID-19 average test positivity rate was 6 per cent.

Adijat Idris lost 0-10 to Ukraine’s Oksana Livach on Friday in the women’s freestyle 50kg event of the wrestling competition of the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games.
The 19-year-old Idris was completely overwhelmed in the round of 16 match at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Tokyo, losing due to technical superiority.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Livach recorded five technical points of two each in the fight which did not go beyond the first period.
This loss by Idris brought to an end Team Nigeria’s competitive involvement in the Tokyo Olympics which ends on Sunday.

He stated this on Friday following the announcement that the 34-year-old football King would not be continuing at Barcelona.
Barcelona announced on Thursday that they can no longer have Messi at Camp Nou after the Argentine became a free agent on July 1.
However, Roures claimed that LaLiga had approved of Messi’s contract days before the news of his exit broke.

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, has called on Nigerians residing in the northwest to support the onslaught against banditry operations in the region.
Governor Masari made the call during the visit of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, to the state on Thursday.
The COAS is in the state on an operational tour to the military formations and units under the 8 Division.
Governor Masari further said that there had been significant improvement in the security situation in the state. He however noted that the troops could do more, if given the necessary support by Nigerians.

While expressing appreciation to the military and security agencies, Governor Masari urged the troops to sustain the momentum of the ongoing operations, particularly in rural communities, adding that this is necessary to halt isolated cases of killings and abductions by bandits in those areas.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment and continued support to the Nigerian Army (NA) and other security agencies in tackling security challenges in the state.
Delivering his remarks, the COAS expressed gratitude to the Governor and people of Katsina state for their support to the Nigerian Army.
He reassured of improved security in the state and the north west as a whole. Gen Yahaya reaffirmed his determination to enhance collaboration with the state government, as well as synergy with other security agencies in restoring peace and security in the region.
In a related development, the COAS, while at the palace of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, called on other traditional rulers and critical stakeholders to assist security agencies with useful information that will support troops’ anti banditry operations.
He equally assured troops of his readiness to support the ongoing operations with requisite logistics and other necessities to enhance the conduct of their operations.
Equally, General Yahaya encouraged the troops to remain steadfast in discharging their duties to the nation in conformity with the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Army.
He assured them that all hands will be on deck to reward diligence, galantry and good conduct but indolence and bad conduct would not go unpunished.

Unknown gunmen have again attacked a police station in Orlu, Imo State, killing a police inspector.
It was learned that the incident occurred on Thursday night when the armed men invaded the station, gunned down an officer, and set the facility ablaze.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, revealed in a statement on Friday that three of the assailants were killed.
According to him, the armed men threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of Orlu Police station, damaging the roof and causing a fire in the station.

The statement reads in part, “Three of them were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun, and two locally-made double barrel pistols were recovered during the operation while others escaped into the bush with bullet injuries.
“Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack.”

Thirteen victims of human trafficking have been rescued by the police in Katsina State.
Two suspected human traffickers were arrested in the process.
The 13 rescued victims are made of 10 women and three men, all from the Southern part of the country.
The spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, making the confirmation in a statement, explained that the victims and the two suspected traffickers were intercepted in Mashi on Wednesday and brought to Katsina on Thursday evening.

According to the statement, the victims were intercepted by the police after being taken to Libya through the Niger Republic.
The statement explained, “When our operatives intercepted them (the victims and the suspected traffickers) at Mashi, they claimed to be on their way to Libya as some agents were already waiting for them there. We shall, however, take the victims to the hospital for medical check-up and thereafter contact their relatives.”
The statement further explained that the two suspected traffickers would be subjected to further investigation to see whether the police can nail other members of their gang.
According to the statement, the rescued victims are Taibat Bello, 2 (Kwara), Bukola Martin, 27 (Ondo); Mansura Azziz, 21(Osun); Funmilayo Adetunji,18 (Ondo); Emel Oluchi, 24(Anambra); Zainab Ala, 23 (Delta); Gift Uche,19 (Lagos); Tayo James,19 (Lagos); Nafisa Asimiu, 21 (Lagos); Oriyomi Abdul, 24 (Ogun); James Olusegun, 24(male, Benue); Adetunji (no surname), 36 (male, Lagos) and Emmanuel Gabriel, 21 (male, Akwa Ibom).
The two suspected traffickers, the statement said, are Muntari Magaji, 35 and Salman Sani, 35 all from Babua local government area of Jigawa state.
The statement explained that Magaji told newsmen that he and his colleagues were working for another trafficker who is based in Libya.
He explained that the victims had not paid any money for the botched trip but the arrangement is for the victims to work for a year in Libya to offset their bills.
Taibat Bello, one of the rescued victims, explained that the situation in Nigeria forced her to take such step.
She confessed that she has been assured of getting a good job in Libya, and they agreed to offset their bills to their agents as soon as they begin work in Libya.

South Africa’s ex-President, Jacob Zuma was admitted to the hospital on Friday.
This is coming less than a week before Zuma, who was jailed for contempt of court last month, is due in court for a separate graft trial.
The Department of Correctional Services disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
It said in the statement that the Department of Correctional Services “can confirm that former president Jacob Zuma has today, August 6 2021, been admitted to an outside hospital for medical observation.”

No further reason was given for the hospitalization on Friday, apart from that, it was prompted by “a routine observation.”
Zuma is scheduled to attend the resumption of a long-running corruption trial on August 10.
Recall that the constitutional court ordered Zuma to be jailed for refusing to give evidence at an inquiry into corruption during his nine years in office from 2009.
The 79-year-old, who has been accused of receiving bribes over a $2 billion weapons deal in the late 1990s, initially resisted arrest but later turned himself in.
Following the arrest of Zuma, who wields support among the poor and among loyalists in the ruling African National Congress (ANC), protests broke out in the country.
The protests quickly turned into looting as crowds pillaged shopping malls and warehouses, hauling away goods as police stood by, seemingly powerless to act.
A South African court had last month adjourned the trial of Zuma after the former leader applied for a postponement to appear in person rather than virtually.

Former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida, has declared that he has already seen the kind of person that would be next Nigerian President.
Speaking in an interview aired on Arise Television, IBB called on Nigerians to focus on individuals in their 60s come 2023.
IBB hinted at a few individuals, whom he said had the capacity to lead the country and effectively run its affairs economically and politically.
According to the former military dictator, bad leadership was a major reason for series of socio-economic challenges the country is being faced with.

IBB pointed out that at this point, Nigeria is in dare need of a leader who connects with the people, tries to talk with them and not the one who “talks on top of the people.”
“I have started visualising a good Nigerian leader. That is, a person, who travels across the country and has a friend virtually everywhere he travels to and he knows at least one person that he can communicate with,” he said.
“That is a person, who is very verse in economics and is also a good politician, who should be able to talk to Nigerians and so on. I have seen one, or two or three of such persons already in his sixties.”
When asked if the person could emerge victorious in the 2023 presidential election, Babangida added, “I believe so if we can get him.”
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, all above 60s, are among some of the names that have been mentioned as possible replacement for President Muhammadu Buhari when his tenure expires in 2023.

New Manchester City signing, Jack Grealish, has said that he cannot wait to get started after joining the club from Aston Villa on Thursday.
It was reported that Grealish becomes the most expensive English player after joining Man City from Aston Villa for a British record £100million on Thursday evening.
The 25-year-old, who signed a six-year deal, will wear the No. 10 shirt worn by Man City legend, Sergio Aguero, who moved to Barcelona weeks ago.
He had spent eight seasons with Aston Villa, during which he scored 32 goals, made 43 assists in 213 appearances.

<div>“In its resolve to rid the region of banditry, the air component focused on locations with high concentration of bandits such as South of Dansadau town and North of Kwiambana Forest Reserves in Zamfara State.</div>

<div>“Specifically, on 2 August 2021, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) surveillance platforms overhead these locations locked on armed bandits on bikes moving into Kwiambana Forest Reserves.</div>

<div>“Diligent tracking of their movement led the platforms to an extensive and well concealed camps with numerous huts”.</div>

<div>The source added: “Accordingly , using a mix of NAF Alpha Jet, MI 171 and Agusta 109 strike helicopters, bombardment of the camps commenced on the evening of 2 August 2021 in liaison with ground troops forming blocking forces around the targeted areas of the forest.</div>

<div>“Through these coordinated attacks, over 78 bandits were neutralised, and their camps destroyed.</div>

<div>“Informants and locals in the general vicinity also confirmed an exodus of surviving bandits from the forest. Further ISR by the air component confirmed a total abandonment of the camp by the surviving bandits.</div>

<div>“In another development, the NAF 404 Force Protection Group stationed in Kaduna, on 4 August 2021, arrested a 48-year-old bandits’ logistics runner named, Aminu Saminu, around the Kaduna International Airport.</div>

<div>“During interrogation, the culprit revealed that he usually disguises as a charcoal businessman to purchase food and other items for bandits at Bamba Village in Igabi Local Government Area (West of Kaduna International Airport).</div>

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it does not detain citizens on the order of powerful people.
DSS said this while reacting to an opinion in a newspaper where it was alleged that hundreds of innocent citizens are presently languishing in Police and DSS detention centres across Nigeria, following arrests ordered by powerful men and women.
Dr. Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, in a statement on Thursday titled: “Re: Beyond Abba Kyari’s Indictment,” said the opinion written by one Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi was inciting, misinforming and should be introverted.
The statement reads in part: “Dear Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, without efforts to join issues with you on an opinion expressed by you in your article of 5th August 2021 on the above subject matter, the SSS takes exceptions to the part that states that ‘Hundreds of innocent citizens are currently languishing in Police and State Security Services (SSS) detention centres across the country, following arrests ordered by powerful men and women.

“This isn’t true. I don’t speak for the Police, but it’s certain that no Nigerian or anyone for that matter is in the SSS/DSS custody on the order(s) of private citizens or persons. The SSS has a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) on the criminal justice administration.
“The SSS shouldn’t be run down given the slightest opportunity.
“It’s unacceptable for a respectable columnist of your experience and status to make a sweeping statement like the one herein. It’s misleading, inciting, denigrating, demeaning, misinforming, and should be withdrawn.
“Thank you Sir as you correct this erroneous impression created about the service.”

Sen. Seriake Dickson, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that there will be a shock in the country between now and next year because many politicians will decamp from one political party to another.
The immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Wednesday.
Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa-West in the National Assembly, noted that Nigeria has not reached its peak with respect to the decamping season.
Recall that prominent members of the main opposition PDP have switched camp to the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently with Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, leading the league of PDP governors to the ruling party.

Shortly after, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and Governor Matawalle Bello of Zamfara State followed suit.
Also, Sen. Joy Emordi, a member Board of Trustees of the PDP, defected from the party to the APC on Wednesday.
Speaking on the development, Dickson said, “Between now and the peak of the decamping season, which will be next year, you will be shocked how many people will move either this way or that way.
“Don’t be surprised to see a lot of chicken coming home to roost, don’t be surprised to see some other birds of passage flocking around. That is what we have come to know.
“Is it the right thing to do? No. Is that the way to deepen our democracy, no? Does that speak well of our democratic structure, no? Unfortunately, that is the ugly reality we have to deal with.” He stated.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned the Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army to stop killing innocent people in the Southeast under the guise of unknown gunmen.
IPOB threatened to unleash its wrath on security agencies and unknown gunmen if they failed to stop killing innocent people in the South-East.
Spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful, issued the threat while alleging that Army and police were silently killing people of the southeast in a bid to execute their ethnic cleansing agenda.
Powerful alleged that people of Okporo and Umutanze in Orlu, Imo State, are being killed by unknown gunmen.

In a statement he signed, Powerful said the security forces are disguising as unknown gunmen to massacre people, adding that the group would resist the genocide and retaliate if they do not stop.
The group also warned politicians allegedly conniving with security agents against people of the region to brace up for the people’s resistance.
The statement reads: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, hereby caution those who call themselves unknown armed men rampaging communities in Biafra land particularly those killing innocent people in Okporo and Umutanze Orlu, Imo State, to immediately stop the ethnic cleansing or brace for mass resistance by the people.
“These evil politicians decided to sponsor Nigerian Army and Police to attack innocent Biafrans in Orlu and other places in Biafra land to implicate IPOB and ESN.
“The unprovoked attacks by Nigerian Army and Police on innocent Biafran citizens under the guise of unknown armed men must stop or the monsters will consume those that created them. IPOB will no longer allow the ongoing secret genocide against hapless Biafrans by the wicked Nigeria security agencies and their collaborators.
“We are warning politicians and traitors amongst us supporting this evil agenda to call it quits or brace up for the wrath of the people.”

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, has reacted after he failed to impress in the final of the men’s shot put event at the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in Japan.
The 28-year-old also said that he would remain in Japan for the next few days to do some shopping before he would return to Nigeria to figure out his next year’s living and training situations.
Enekwechi, who threw 21.28 metres to win the 2019 African Games gold in Rabat, could only record a throw of 19.74 to place last on Thursday in the 12-man field.
Ryan Crouser of the United States set a new Olympic record in the event with a throw of 23.30.

Crouser who is also the world record-holder with 23.37, set on June 18, erased his Olympic record of 22.52 set at the Rio Games in 2016.
His compatriot, Joe Kovacs, won the silver medal with 22.65 while Tomas Walsh of New Zealand won the bronze with a season best 22.47.
Reacting, Enekwechi, in a post via his Instagram account, said, “12th place at the #Olympic Games. I’m okay with it because this has been a very trying couple of weeks.
“I’m happy to have made the Olympic Games but I know there are some things I could have done to make the story end a little bit sweeter.
“I picked a bad day to have a bad day. This is the first time I had literally thousands of people behind me watching me compete. With new levels come new devils. As overwhelming as it’s been the past couple of months, I do appreciate the love and support.

Zamfara State former Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari has declared that the reception of the APC membership card by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle does not mean that he is the leader of APC in the State.
The former Governor said that there was no doubt that he is still the leader of APC in the state and that Governor Matawalle was making a very big mistake by not consulting him before defecting to the party.
“Whether he likes it or not, I still remain the authentic APC leader in the State, so he should stop parading and decieving himself as the party’s leader in the state”
“I will never stay alive and see Matawalle being the leader of the party I formed and nurtured in the state”, he warned.

It was reported that none of former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari’s associates was seen at the venue.
The investigation carried out by this medium shows clearly that there is no indication of relative peace in the Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Recall that the former Governor has said that he does not recognize any leadership committee appointed by the national headquarters of the party apart from the leadership led by Ambassador Liman Lawal Kaura.
He emphasized that the appointment was illegal, not according to the constitution of party, and unacceptable to him.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has promoted 264 Deputy Route Commanders to the rank of Route Commanders.
The FRSC Board also promoted 181 Assistant Route Commanders to the rank of Deputy Route Commanders.
Board Chairman, Bukhari Bello, announced the elevation in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem.
Bello advised the officers to be more diligent and to rededicate themselves to achieving the organisation’s corporate mission.

Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi said that the promotion exercise was part of FRSC’s drive towards rewarding excellence.

Oyeyemi assured of determination to enhance the system and make it easier for motorists to acquire driver’s licence, irrespective of their locations nationwide.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday recorded 747 fresh cases of COVID-19 infections.
The NCDC on Thursday morning stated that the 747 new cases were the highest in any single day in the last five months.
According to the NCDC, Lagos State, the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria, recorded 488 followed by Akwa Ibom 121 cases, Oyo 29, Rivers 25 and Ogun 15.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kaduna recorded 13 each; Kwara 11; Ekiti and Osun reported 10 each; Edo had six, Abia had three, Anambra recorded two and Plateau had one.

According to the NCDC, four COVID-19-related deaths were recorded on Wednesday, raising the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Nigeria to 2,167.
The health agency stated that 87 patients, who recovered from the virus, have been discharged from various isolation centres in the country.
The NCDC stated that till date, 165,208 recoveries have been recorded nationwide.
However, out of Nigeria’s 200 million people, the agency had tested only 2.5 million for the virus.
The health agency put the average test positivity rate in Nigeria at six per cent and said the active cases were 7,969.

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi fails to win a medal in the men’s shot put final at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Thursday.
The Nigerian athlete finished 12th after throwing 19.74m on his third attempt.
He fouled in his first attempt, and on his second, he’s thrown 18.87m.
Ranked among the top 12 in the event before the Games, Enekwechi made history on Tuesday when he became the first Nigerian to qualify for the final of the shot put event.

Bare 24 hours before the game, Enekwechi was seen in a video washing the jersey for his shot put final.
The video, which went viral, got many Nigerians angry.
The caption in the video indicated that the athlete was given one jersey for the competition. 
“When you made the Olympic Finals, but you only have one jersey,” he wrote.
World record-holder Ryan Crouser bettered his own Olympic mark as he retained the men’s shot put title on Thursday.
The American managed a best of 23.30 metres on his sixth and final effort, a new Olympic record after his five previous attempts had also all gone beyond the 22.52m that saw him win gold at the 2016 Rio Games.
The 28-year-old Crouser led a repeat of the Rio podium, with teammate and world champion Joe Kovacs taking silver with 22.65m, and New Zealand’s Tomas Walsh claiming bronze (22.47).
Crouser put in a consistent shift in baking conditions at Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium, going into the lead with his first attempt and never ceding.
Expectations on Crouser, who was pushed into silver by Kovacs at the 2019 world championships in Doha, had obviously been high.
After his victory was confirmed, he quickly ran to his kit bag, donned a cowboy hat and showed to the television cameras a sheet of paper on which was written: “Grandpa, we did it, 2020 Olympic champion.”
Crouser was brought up in a family deeply embedded in athletics: his father Mitch was an alternate on the discus team at the 1984 Los Angeles Games while his uncle Brian was a two-time Olympian in the javelin and cousin Sam represented the United States in the javelin in Rio.
His grandfather Larry, he has revealed, was instrumental in encouraging him in the pursuit of Olympic glory with training sessions from an early age in his backyard.
Crouser’s victory follows an exceptional US trial in June during which he set a world record of 23.37m.

Fresh facts have emerged how Pastor Bolanle Ibrahim of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, The King of Kings Parish at Maidan village, Mile 12 area, Lagos was assassinated while praying for mothers and their children.<a name='more' id="more"></a>
 
The news came to some members of the church and his wife as a shock, as gunmen entered the church with his picture in their hand, went straight to the pulpit and shot him dead.
 
The devastated wife of the deceased, Mrs. Kudirat Ibrahim denounced claims that her husband was a cultist, which was why he was killed by the gunmen.
 
According to her, what the people were saying were blatant lies as her husband was a man of God and served him till his death.
 
She explained that she was not at home on the fateful day of the incident, as she went to take care of her mother at the hospital.
 
Kudirat said she had no premonition about his death and that the deed was done, with nobody calling to inform her.
She told New Telegraph that she never knew her husband had been killed, as she was still busy calling him to bring something for her from home, not knowing that he had already been killed.
 
Narrating how Pastor Ibrahim was killed, his aunt Mrs. Justina Alebiosu, said before the gunmen killed him, they showed him his picture to identify if he was actually the right person they came for.
 
Alebiosu stated that his death was an unfortunate one, as he was a gentleman, saying that Ibrahim converted from Islam to Christianity before becoming a pastor.
 
She said her thinking was that her brother had business transaction with someone, explaining that she was told when the assailants wanted to drag him out of the pulpit where he was praying for women who brought their children for dedication, he begged them to kill him there and that, that was where he was eventually killed by the gunmen.
 
Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident, saying that the police were still investigating the matter.

Apprehension and anxiety generated with the absence of 4 out of detained 12 aides of the alleged Yoruba secessionist leader Sunday Igboho has been put to rest on Wednesday as the Department of the State Services, DSS, brought the entire detainees to court.
DSS had at the last adjourned date brought only 8 detainees to court in what appears to be a partial compliance with the order of a Federal High Court, Abuja.
The absence of the remaining 4 without any explanation had generated apprehension and speculation as what could have happened to the rest.
It was, however, noted inside the court room that all the 12 detained were in court.

At the time of this report, Justice Obiora Egwuatu has just stepped into the court room for continuation of the suit instituted by the detainees against the DSS Director General.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu had on July 29, reiterated his order to the DSS to produce the applicants in court on August 2 and also appear before the court to show why the applicants should not be released unconditionally.
The order was sequel to an exparte application argued by applicants’ lawyer, Mr Pelumi Olajeingbesi, wherein he informed the court that the applicants have been in custody of the DSS since July 1, 2021.
They were arrested during a midnight raid on Igboho’s residence in Oyo State and subsequently brought to Abuja.

The leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Wednesday, warned the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Primate Ayodele revealed that the APC will lose the presidential election if the economic and security challenges faced by the country at the moment was not addressed immediately.
In a statement by his Media Office, the clergy man said Nigerians were tired with APC and that the “only way the party can redeem it’s image is by working on the many issues faced by the country or else, the presidential seat will be lost gallantly in 2023.”
He revealed that there will be a serious uprising against election rigging in the country in 2023, explaining that the party should seat up immediately.

Also, he warned the leaders to quickly address the legal issues facing the party if they don’t want to be cheaply sent out of their present strongholds in the country.

Sequel to the skirmishes that occurred at Gaza Biyu in Jos North LGA of Plateau State on Tuesday night, the State Government has assured that the breach of peace has been put under control.
This is following swift response by security agencies.
It was learnt that some youths had reportedly obstructed traffic and set ablaze two trucks on the highway.
It was also gathered that the incident was a reaction to the recent attack in some communities in Bassa LGA, where several lives were lost, farms destroyed and over 200 houses were set ablaze.

Governor Simon Lalong, through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Simon Macham, said, “The intervention of the security personnel immediately brought the situation under control as the youths were dispersed and the road cleared, thereby restoring traffic flow.”
However, with the return of normalcy around Gada Biyu and environs, Lalong has urged citizens, “to avoid any act that could lead to the breakdown of law and order”.
The Governor also assured residents that, “security forces have continued their operations to dominate areas affected by recent attacks in Bassa and Riyom LGAs with a view to restoring normalcy and arresting perpetrators, as earlier directed after an emergency Security Council Meeting”.

Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna State has condemned the killing of some residents and destruction of property in Ungwan Magaji, Kigam, Kisicho and Kikoba villages, Kauru local government area of the State on Monday.
A statement issued by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan explained that a report from the Defence Headquarters Operation Safe Haven disclosed that armed assailants attacked the villages early on Monday morning, and left six residents dead.
The six persons killed, according to the statement are Joseph Maza, Timvan Cibi Ciwo, Monday Titus, Asabe Magani, Laraba Danladi and Yosi Danladi.
The statement explained that the troops arrived the location and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

The statement added that the attackers destroyed eight houses, six huts, one motorcycle and a generator, as well as some maize crops.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai, following the incident, expressed his sadness over the attack and condemned it as an action of depraved entities stripped of every shred of humanity.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims, and sent his condolences to their families. The Governor tasked security agencies working in the area to sustain thorough investigations into the incident.
The statement explained that investigations were ongoing in the general area and that the government would keep the public abreast of developments.
Similarly, the statement explained that the military and other security agencies were working with the governments of Kaduna and Plateau States, towards containing the renewed cycle of violence in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State and Bassa LGA of Plateau State, respectively.

As the more contagious Delta variant of the COVID-19 spreads, a total of 505 new cases were recorded on Tuesday in Nigeria.

This increased the country’s COVID-19 caseload to 175,264, the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) said.
COVID-19 average test positivity rate is estimated at six per cent and the active cases at 7,969
The new infections indicate an increase from the 404 cases announced Monday.
The latest NCDC data indicate that Nigeria no doubt is experiencing the third wave of COVID-19 infection as officially confirmed by the Nigerian government.
According to the NCDC, the fresh infections were recorded in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The public health agency said that Lagos State, the country’s epicentre, reported 273 new cases.
It was followed by Rivers with 83.
Oyo recorded 45; Ondo 22; Cross River 18; Kaduna 13; Ogun and Gombe reported 10 each.
Eight new infections were reported in the FCT, seven in Ekiti; Delta recorded six; Bayelsa had three; Edo two and Niger had one.
Three deaths were recorded on Tuesday raising the total number of fatalities in the country to 2,163.
NCDC said 85 people recovered from the infection and were on Tuesday discharged from various isolation centres across the country.
The NCDC said that till date, 165,122 recoveries have been recorded nationwide.
It said that a multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities.
The NCDC noted that Nigeria had also tested more than 2.5 million people for COVID-19 out of the country’s roughly 200 million people.

Nigeria's top medal hopeful at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic games Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has lamented the poor conditions Nigerian athletes are facing at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Despite leading his country to the last round of the shot put event at the Olympics, Mr Enekwechi disclosed in a TikTok video shared on his Instagram page that he only has one jersey and has to wash it at night in preparation for the next day’s games.

Other prominent athletes including sprint star, Blessing Okagbare and Basketball giant, Chimezie Metu have spoken out about the problems Nigerian athletes had during the Olympics as a result of the country’s apparent poor sport administrators.
 
Nigerian sports minister Sunday Dare has repeatedly refused to answer questions or give comments regarding the welfare of Nigerian athletes at the Olympics, with several athletes openly accusing him of abandoning them to binge at different Tokyo hotels.
