Nigerian nationals have topped the list of foreigners arrested for drug smuggling in Navi Mumbai over the past five years.<br />

According to the sources from the anti-narcotic cell of Navi Mumbai police, a total of 66 narcotic related cases were registered between 2012 and April, this year in the city. Nigerian nationals were involved in 14 of these cases, the police said.<br />

Since 2012, the police have arrested 14 foreign nationals for smuggling drugs to the city and 13 of them were from Nigeria, while one was from Ghana.<br />

Barely a week ago, the police arrested one Nigerian from Kopar Khairane who had come to sell mephedrone rock and powder. Around 25 gram of the drug in powder form and 85 gram in rock form collectively worth Rs 3.30 lakh was seized from his possession. As far as foreign nationals are concerned, several Bangladeshis were also arrested in the city in different crimes. But they were mainly into fake currency notes scam, cheating, theft and robbery. None of them were arrested for trading drugs.<br />

Tushar Doshi, deputy commissioner of police (special branch) said, “When it comes to drug smuggling by foreign nationals, by and large all the criminals are from Africa in general and from Nigeria in particular.<br />

The number of foreign nationals including those from Africa has also increased in the city over the past two years.” The police said that these Nigerians work in networks which also operate in other cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. Apart from their countrymen, several Indians are also working in those networks. Maya More, police inspector from the anti-narcotic cell said, “These criminals collect their drugs from people in their networks and then smuggle those to different cities.<br />
<br />
The biggest problem faced while trying to get details about their business is the language issue. We cannot interrogate them properly after their arrests, as many of them cannot speak proper English or any Indian language.” Ads by ZINC Officials from the city special branch told Hindustan Times that presently around 950 foreign nationals from nearly 70 counties are staying in Navi Mumbai and around 50 of them are Africans. Amit Shellar, police sub-inspector from the anti-narcotic cell said, “Most of the Nigerians arrested for drug smuggling, had come to India on a business visa. Initially, they would export garments from Mumbai to their country. However, when their business would fail, they would trade drugs for easy money.”<br />

According to the crime branch official, such networks are operating in the city through word-of-mouth publicity. “They initially target students from the affluent families and help in forming a habit of taking the drug. Once they create a good number of customers, they keep selling it to them,” an officer said on condition of anonymity. Apart from drug smuggling, several Nigerians were also arrested for online cheating, credit card and debit card frauds among others.

The Boko Haram jihadist group has released a video claiming to show Chibok schoolgirls who refused to be rescued as part of a recent swap deal with the Nigerian government. In the three-minute video, a woman who claims to be Maida Yakubu, one of the 276 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014, is seen wearing a black veil and holding a gun.<br />

Flanked by three other women clad in black, she proclaims her loyalty to Boko Haram, which has been fighting the government since 2009 in an insurgency that has killed over 20,000 people. When asked by a man in the background why she does not want to return home to her parents, she replies: “The reason is that they live in the town of unbelief. We want them to accept Islam.”<br />

The woman then speaks in the local Chibok dialect for the rest of the video. But the woman’s mother believes she did so under duress. “For me, this video is torture,” Esther Muntari told AFP on Saturday from Chibok. “I haven’t slept since I watched it The tie that binds us is unbreakable. It’s just not possible that my daughter prefers her kidnappers to me,” said the mother of five. Maida is the oldest at 19. Muntari said the woman mentioned Islam, she “immediately understood that she had been forced to say what she said in the video”. Last week, 82 schoolgirls who were kidnapped three years ago were released in exchange for imprisoned Boko Haram members after negotiations between the extremist group and the government.<br />

Presidency spokesman Garba Shehu later disclosed that one girl had refused to leave, saying she had married a Boko Haram fighter. Analysts said it was likely that others may have developed sympathies for their captors over time. “The video has instilled fear in our minds and has somewhat dampened our hope that our girls will be freed,” Enoch Mark, whose two children are missing, told AFP. “I don’t think any of our girls would choose to stay with Boko Haram if they were given a choice,” Mark said. “The only explanation” is that Maida was “forced to stay”. – ‘Complex situation’<br />
<br />
– Testimony from former hostages in the brutal conflict has revealed that Boko Haram forced many women and young girls into marriage, and that rape and sexual violence were commonplace. Some were forced to work as domestic slaves for extremist fighters and even deployed to the front line carrying ammunition during attacks. “From what we know of other young women who’ve returned, the relationship with their captors is very complex and at times quite ambiguous,” Elizabeth Pearson, a Boko Haram specialist who studies women and conflict, told AFP in an email exchange last week. Genuine relationships will emerge, as not all fighters behave brutally to the women in the camps, particularly if children are involved, she added.<br />
<br />
“It’s a much more complex situation than the abducted-rescued-victim narrative we’ve seen at times,” she said. The Islamist militants seized the Chibok girls in April 2014, prompting global condemnation and drawing attention to the bloody insurgency. Fifty-seven escaped in the immediate aftermath. Of the 219 who did not manage to flee, 106 have either been released or found, leaving 113 still missing.<br />

– ‘Mere propaganda’ –<br />

Boko Haram also released a second video on Friday claiming to show five commanders that the Nigerian government freed in exchange for the 82 Chibok girls. In the video, a man who identifies himself as Abu Dardaa, or Money, says Boko Haram has returned to Sambisa Forest, which was long its stronghold in Borno State, and is preparing to bomb Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja. The threat comes as Nigeria opened another round of talks for the release of more kidnapped schoolgirls. The Nigerian military said in December that it had driven Boko Haram from Sambisa Forest. On Saturday, a statement by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, an army spokesman, confirmed that the man was among those freed in the exchange, while calling the video “mere propaganda”. “He was a direct beneficiary of the process that led to the release of 82 of the abducted girls, and does not have a say or capacity to do anything, therefore his threats should be ignored,” the army said. While the jihadists have lost significant swathes of territory since Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in 2015, they are still capable of launching deadly attacks on soldiers and continue to unleash suicide bombers in cities and camps for internally displaced people in Nigeria’s ravaged northeast.

Nigeria is a land of opportunity. And I do not mean this the way Nigerian politicians usually mean it, as a cliched speech for the campaign trail. I mean this from the bottom of my heart because it is true and I have benefited from it and I can prove it. Nigeria ought to change her educational model.<br />
<br />

<br />
Our educational system is still by and large a colonial model where the occupying colonial power merely trained a select few natives for the purpose of having clerks and translators to run their exploitative government.<br />
<br />
It was never designed to transfer knowledge that prepares the recipient to add value to Nigeria. Quite on the contrary, it was designed and still remains designed to train Nigerians to take value from Nigeria and give it to the West. This is one of the reasons why we have more Nigerian medical professionals practicing in the West and Saudi Arabia than we have in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
Our educational system is also designed to train the bulk of its intake to be nothing more than paper pushers who daily clock watch, while waiting for the end of the month to collect salaries that enables them to their insatiable lust for foreign goods. Our educational system does not make us productive. It does not teach us to seize initiative. In fact, it kills initiative. Many Nigerian children who show initiative at an early age are made to feel ashamed of their initiative by their teachers themselves who call them ITK (meaning I Too Know). The subliminal message underlying that common label is that it is not our place to be overly intelligent or curious.<br />
<br />
We ought to leave that to the oyinbo man. It is for this reason that Nigerian youths feel it is the job of the government to provide jobs for them. Pay attention to what I said. Our youths do not think it is government’s responsibility to provide the enabling environments for jobs to thrive. No. They believe, because of the type of education they have received, that it is the responsibility of government to provide actual jobs for them. They have been falsely taught that the secret of success is to go to school, get a certificate and that that certificate acts as a receipt that you hand over to government in exchange for a guaranteed life of ease, laziness and entitlement, along with an official car, a driver, official quarters and domestic workers that do everything for you except help you do your business in the toilet.<br />
<br />
That is the life their grandparents saw the colonial masters live. When their grandparents came of age, they chose to live that same life forgetting that the colonial masters where little more than an army of occupation whose mindset was to take and not necessarily to build except to the extent of building railways and roads from mines and farms directly to ports for onward transportation of the wealth of Africa to Europe and teaching (perhaps brainwashing is a better term) the natives to accept their particular brand of Christianity (which invariably has their monarch and not Christ as the head of the Church). This is why a Nigerian youth who lives in Kaduna can complain that the government has not provided him or her with a job. Yet, Kaduna rice sells for almost double in Lagos.<br />
<br />
The government that he or she complains against has built a railway and train that will take them to Lagos for less than ₦2,000. They do not need a visa to go to Lagos. Even the Bible says “my people perish from lack of knowledge.” Yes, the Muhammadu Buhari administration is inept, but this clueless government is not your problem. The problem of the Nigerian youth is an educational system that has robbed him of initiative and pumped him full of entitlement to the extent that he or she is expecting manna from heaven. The problem is mental laziness.<br />
<br />
The problem is YOU! Probably the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria’s economy and her educational system is the second coming of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her brilliant imitatives with former President Jonathan, chief of which was the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria (YouWin) initiative. I just finished writing a book on the Jonathan administration titled Facts Versus Fiction: The True Story of the Jonathan Years (Chibok, 2015 and Other Conspiracies). In it I devoted a whole chapter to YouWIN. Even though I was somewhat involved in the process, I was nonetheless impressed when I took in the bird’s eye view of the scheme and how successful it was in creating jobs and changing the mindset of Nigeria’s youth. It was not that YouWIN gave grants, although it did give grants ranging from $12,000 to $100,000 to over 4,000 Nigerian youths.<br />
<br />
The beauty of the initiative was that it provided business and financial education to tens of thousands of Nigeria’s youth and hopefully changed their outlook from one of entitlement to one of self reliance. Unknown to many Nigerians, YouWIN is actually the world’s largest business plan competition ever created. When David Mackenzie, a Senior Economist at the World Bank, did an Independent Impact Evaluation on YouWIN, which he published in 2015, McKenzie found that YouWin was two and half times as efficient as a 2013 management consulting program in Mexico, four and a half times as efficient as a 2014 wage subsidy program in Jordan and almost ten times as efficient as a 2011 vocational training program in Turkey. That is why it was rather disappointing that President Muhammadu Buhari could not see beyond politics to understand the need to retain the initiative. Rather, his administration reduced Nigeria’s most successful job creation effort to “a weekly print media enterprise education programme designed to assist entrepreneurs start, plan and grow their businesses” which it christened YouWiN!Connect, an aberration and a bastardization of the original idea which has gone the way of other harebrained ideas that the current administration came up with including Change Begins With Me and the N-Power scheme (emphasis on scheme).<br />
<br />
It is very sad to see what has happened to initiatives like YouWIN and the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovations and Development, Almajiri Schools etc. Sound policies, patriotic initiatives and powerful ideas that should have been consolidated into Nigeria’s educational system have been either canceled, watered down or left to wither away. And look at the impact such actions have had on the economy. Speaking of the economy, the last time Nigeria had a Coordinator was in 2011 when President Goodluck Jonathan nominated Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as a minister and upon her confirmation named her the Coordinating Minister of the Economy. How sad that in 2017, six years after that event, Nigeria has now got her second Coordinator and no, it is not another minister.<br />
<br />
It is no less a personality than the incumbent Vice President who has been reduced, in the estimation of his boss, from an acting President to a Coordinator. In his first letter to the Senate on February 10, 2017, before going on medical vacation, President Buhari had used the correct nomenclature to describe the role that would be played by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.<br />
<br />
In the said letter, the Vice President was to ‘act’ on his behalf. How very strange that in his second letter to the Senate on May 7, 2017, before going to see his London doctors, President Buhari curiously changed the wordings of his letter and named the Vice President as someone who would “coordinate’ rather than ‘act’! And to those who are saying that the nomenclature does not matter, go home and call your father ‘my mother’s husband’ and after he has slapped you back into reality come back here and realize that if it is not panadol it is not the same thing as panadol. Vice President Osinbajo did a very good job the last time he was acting President and as such no one who loves Nigeria should hesitate to accord him the respect he has earned even though by reason of his peculiar situation he cannot complain about this shabby treatment meted out on him for fear of playing into the hands of the ‘Cabal’. I think the President was not too happy with vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s good performance the last time which out-shined him hence this Coordinator of National Affairs business. Where are our constitutional lawyers? Can’t somebody approach the court to stop this nonsense? Coordinator of National Affairs is unknown to our constitution! Our constitution was not made for President Muhammadu Buhari. Rather, President Buhari was made by our constitution and must be subject to it President or not!<br />
<br />
Finally, on the recent release of some of the kidnapped girls, let me say that anybody that is not happy that 82 Chibok girls were released must be a monster whose humanity should be called into question. I thank God that these girls have been released and I commend the Federal Government for the feat of ensuring that these girls are reunited with their families. May God bless President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the leadership that enabled this to happen. Having said that, there are some factual observations I want to raise. What you are about to read is completely devoid of any opinion. I am just stating facts. You may not like the facts. You may not even like me. But one thing you cannot do is ignore the fact. Why should a Presidential spokesman turn himself to a praise singer for a terrorist group? Read the following quote:<br />

“To be honest, without appearing to speak for Boko Haram, from the outlook of these girls, they appear better in terms of their physical outlook than the 21 we received before.”-Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman. What can one even say when a Presidential spokesman praises Boko Haram for looking after Chibok girls well! What can I say? I am speechless! On May 7, 2017, when the girls were ferried over to the Nigerian Presidential Villa at Aso Rock, Abuja to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, photographs released showed them looking very well fed and robust.<br />
<br />
In fact, the next day (May 8) Africa’s top blog, Linda Ikeji’s blog published a photo of the released girls side by side with a picture of a woman and her baby in one of the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Borno state for a side by side comparison and these Chibok girls, who had been living rough inside Sambisa forest looked well fed, well groomed and buxom while the woman in the IDP camp looked haggard and hungry. It leaves you questioning who has been in captivity and who has been free. How is this possible? This is not the first time Chibok girls have been released. Almost exactly a year ago, just a week before the current Nigerian administration marked its first year in office some Chibok girls were also released.<br />
<br />
Another batch were released in October 2016. The thing is that when these girls are released there is a media blackout on them. No one is allowed near them to interview them. I understand that they have gone through an ordeal, but Malala also went through a similar or even worse ordeal and no one shielded her from the press. Malala Yousafzai was shot at age 15 by the taliban and left unconscious. She survived and she was threatened by the taliban who threatened to kill her should they catch her. Her case was one of clear and present danger. Yet she was not sequestered from the public even though, like the Chibok girls, her English was not so good at first.<br />
<br />
In fact, an international press tour was arranged for her placing her on the world stage and kickstarting the activism that earned her a Nobel Prize making her the youngest person ever to be so awarded. One would have thought that that is what would have played out for the released girls.<br />
<br />
Last October, 21 Chibok girls were release by Boko Haram after negotiations. Till date, these girls have been kept from the press. Even their own parents are not allowed access to them according to a New York Times piece on them published on March 11, 2017. The girls are kept in S safe house according to the New York Times. During the Christmas holidays they were allowed to visit Chibok but were housed in the home of a “top politician”. Their parents were only allowed to ‘visit them’. Soldiers guarded the girls and after some hours asked the parents of the girls to leave.<br />
<br />
Let me say again that I am glad that they have been released and I pray that the remaining captives are also released but questions remain and when you attempt to raise them, you are shouted down by suspected members of the Buhari Media Center that Farooq Kperogi warned us about. Agent Dimitry Seluk had put out a call before the match for fans to mark Toure's birthday from the stands, which they did with cakes and banners hailing the star.<br />

"I think age is just a number. I always enjoy football. I hate my birthdays," Toure said to reporters.<br />

"I don't like it. Today the fans were quite fantastic and I'm very happy."<br />
<br />
Toure is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, with little indication of what next season will hold for him.<br />

But for now, the midfielder is only focused on seeing out the current campaign for Pep's men.<br />

"I think my future is Tuesday. We have another game (against West Brom)," he affirmed.<br />

It was a gathering of eminent personalities and societal creme de la creme at the wedding of the son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Olajuwon, to the daughter of businessman Chief Kessington Adebutu, Tolutope.<br />

The wedding which took place Saturday at the Methodist Church of The Trinity, Tinubu Square, Lagos was conducted by the Secretary, Conference of Methodist Church, Nigeria, Rt. Reverend Michael Akinwale who urged the couple to put God first in every thing.<br />

Quoting the Bible, he said the couple should draw inspiration from the words of God which said man shall live his parent and be married to his wife. He urged the new couple to see themselves as friends.<br />
<br />
Akinwale explained that the only way they could succeed in fulfilling their matrimonial obligation was to love each other, trust one another and show patience in the face of provocation.<br />
<br />
He said: “Both of you are help mates, a man shall leave his mother and father and click unto his wife. If you want your marriage to be successful, you have to be patient, as long as you are able to tolerate each other without recourse to your past or where you are coming from than you will have a happy home.<br />
<br />
“You must have undiluted love, you must allow the love of Christ to dwell in you. It is important to trust each other, you must be faithful to yourselves, you must learn to listen to each other, you must understand that your best friend is your wife or husband and you must pray together so that the devil will not have access to you.<br />
<br />
He added that most couples find it difficult to have happy families because of pride and arrogance, noting that their background must not get into their hands in order to live happy married life.<br />
<br />
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Akin Mabogunje urged the couple to be positive in everything they do. He noted that the secret behind successful marriages was to be open and shun act that constitute hatred.<br />
<br />
Mabogunje said his relationship with the Obasanjo family spanned over 30 years, stressing that one of the secrets of sustaining the relation was due to honesty on both sides.<br />
<br />
He said: I knew the father of the groom for over 30 years and we have moved together in view of the honesty that exists among us. When I was Pro-Chancellor of the Ogun State University, I recruited Obsanjo to the board of Ogun State Development Foundation and he performed creditably well.<br />
<br />
“He did well for the foundation and he is still doing that so up till now. I want to use this occasion to thank him for all that he has been doing to make like better for people.<br />
<br />
“This professional soldier turn politician, statesman and world citizen has never surrender to any form of intimidation, therefore I am urging Olajuwon not to look back, you must ensure that your marriage continue to move forward. Today, the Adebutu and Obasanjo have come into a union that is being celebrated, this names must be protected.<br />
<br />
“As for Kessington Adebutu, I know him as a philanthropist whose kind gesture has change the lives of many people. I must say this man from Iperu Ijebu is an in-law by virtue of my marriage to Iperu woman. The marriage will be 60 year very soon.<br />
<br />
“Having known and related with these families, I want to thank well all of you for gracing this wedding of the decade. I thank all the traditional rulers, friends of the families, politicians and all other guests that are present during the church service and the reception.”<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">According to The Herald Zimbabwe, he drowned into the Crocodile River and was seen by his church members getting eaten by 3 crocodiles.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Deacon Nkosi, a member of the church, told the newspaper, “The pastor taught us about faith on Sunday last week.</div>

“We still don’t understand how this happened because he fasted and prayed the whole week.”</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Pastor Mthethwa was said to have walked into the water and when he was 30 meters inside the river, attempted to ascend above the water so he can start walking, but the 3 crocodile appeared from nowhere and started feasting on him.</div>

“All that was left of him when they finished eating him is a pair of sandals and his underwear floating above the water.”</blockquote>

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said on Saturday that the police were on the trail of a family that allegedly raised the false alarm that resulted in the killing of four persons in Ikorodu.<br />

Owoseni told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the family, which has now been declared wanted, had a fight with another family over an undisclosed matter, but the wanted family raised a false alarm that the victims were members of the notorious Badoo cult.<br />

“The police are after the family that raised the false alarm. We are investigating the case,’’ Owoseni said.<br />
<br />
Sources had earlier told NAN that four persons who were branded as members of the notorious Badoo cult group in Adamo area of Ikorodu were on Friday lynched by residents.<br />
<br />
NAN gathered that members of the public, however, later discovered that the slain persons were not members of the notorious cult group but land speculators.<br />
<br />
hree houses, two vehicles and motorcycles were set ablaze in a reprisal attack by colleagues of the slain persons.<br />
<br />
An unnamed person was said to have started a building project on Thursday in Araro area of Adamo in Ikorodu.<br />
<br />
Some land speculators from Agunfoye area reportedly invaded the building site and demanded royalty from the owner of the building.<br />
<br />
A source told NAN that the man refused to give the men the money and they went away with a threat that they were coming back<br />
<br />
“True to their threat, they mobilised and returned on Friday but unknown to them, the owner of the building had also mobilised some youths in the area,” the source said.<br />
<br />
NAN further gathered that a clash was said to have ensued between the land speculators and the residents, forcing them to flee from the site of the building project.<br />
<br />
The land speculators were escaping when residents raised the alarm that they were members of the Badoo cult group.<br />
<br />
It was also gathered that the residents had lied that the slain land speculators had earlier in the day killed a family of four in the area.<br />
<br />
“More residents were mobilised and they reportedly chased the land speculators to where they were caught and beaten to stupor, with four of them eventually dying.<br />
<br />
“The death of the land speculators sparked instant crisis, as hoodlums from Agunfoye mobilised themselves and invaded Adamo where three houses were burnt.<br />
<br />
“The Agungoye thugs, who were armed with assorted dangerous weapons including guns, matches and broken bottles, attacked residents of Araro, injuring some of them in the process.<br />
<br />
“It took the intervention of policemen from the RRS and local divisions in Ikorodu before the angry hoodlums were dispersed,” a source told NAN.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, many residents of Araro have started relocating from the community, following fears that the police might arrest them.<br />
<br />
Some of them also expressed fears that the hoodlums from Agunfoye might return to avenge the death of the slain four people. </div>

<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“Nobody; under the Hippocratic Oath, it says that even the doctor has no right to reveal the health status of his patient to anybody. So, it’s only Mr President that can say what exactly is wrong with him.<br />
“Don’t forget that in June last year, he went abroad to treat an ear problem. That ear problem had first been treated here in Nigeria and then, when he was going on vacation, he used that opportunity to also consult specialists in London.<br />
“When he came back, he told the country that this was what was wrong with him. So, the prerogative is, his own to disclose and if he wants to disclose, he will. But nobody should be asking him to do it. That would be an infringement on his right.”</blockquote>

Mr Abdulahi Adeka, the embattled Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Nasarawa State chapter, has announced the suspension of the ongoing strike action embarked upon by organised labour in the state.<br />

Organised labour in the state embarked on an indefinite strike from Friday, May 12, to press home their demand for payment of arrears of salaries and entitlements.<br />
<br />
Adeka who addressed a press conference on Saturday in Lafia, said the industrial action was suspended because government had implemented the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).<br />
He said that the agreement was reached between the state government and organised labour in December 2016.<br />
<br />
“Government has started the implementation of the agreement judiciously.<br />
<br />
“Secondly, we considered the future of our children that are to commence the National Examination Council; Basic Education Examinations etc,” he said.<br />
Adeka also said that the union suspended the industrial action to enable women participate in the maternal and child health programme, scheduled to commence on Monday.<br />
<br />
He further said that many affiliates of the NLC were not in support of the strike action.<br />
<br />
“NLC and government are partners in progress not enemies; we disagree to agree in line with the collective bargaining principle.<br />
“On that note, we will continue to dialogue with government to ensure that all entitlements of our members are fully implemented.”<br />
<br />
Adeka also stressed that he still remained the substantive and legitimate NLC chairman in the state.<br />
According to him, his purported removal from office was illegal, adding that only the National secretariat of the union can remove him.<br />
<br />
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that the Nasarawa State NLC chapter on Thursday removed Adeka from office in absentia.<br />
He was removed for allegedly fraternising with the state government against the interest of workers.<br />
<br />
Mr Yusuf Iya, a member of the group that removed Adeka, had told newsmen in Lafia on Thursday that the decision followed a vote of no confidence passed on the chairman by the state executive.<br />
He said that Mr Bala Umar, was appointed the new chairman of the union. </div>

A pressure group under the aegis of Save Humanity Advocacy Centre, has expressed concern over what it described as the promotion of a purported Boko Haram Commander, Shuaibu Moni, who is said to be one of the prisoners of the Boko Haram sect recently swapped for the 82 Chibok Girls.<br />

The video, according to the organisation, is allegedly being promoted by a Boko Haram sympathiser, Ahmad Salkida, “and is hiding under the noble journalism profession to justify his possession of this terrorist material.”<br />

The group demanded an investigation of the issues raised by Sakilda and the projections of some other notable collaborators and roles of such people in reviving the terror machinery.<br />
<br />
A statement issued on Saturday by the Executive Director of SHAC, Dr. Leonard Pukat, called on the Federal Government, especially the security agencies, not to treat the threats from Salkida and the actors in the video with levity.<br />
<br />
He said past experiences had proven that they would do anything, including killing and maiming the innocent with bombs, to make the point about their relevance.<br />
Pukat said, “The nation’s security agencies must, therefore, go after the Boko Haram’s propaganda arm now before they have the time to rebuild their scare infrastructure using the swapped prisoners as justification to terrorise Nigerians. Salkida’s point of view and the projections of some other notable collaborators and roles of such people in reviving the terror machinery must also be investigated.</div>

Multiple suicide bomb attacks at the University of Maiduguri, on Saturday, delayed the commencement of the Computer-Based Test for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, candidates at centres in the university.<br />

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that three suicide bombers, early today detonated their explosives, at the gate of the University killing a security guard and injuring one soldier.<br />

The six test centres in the university recorded low turn out following the incident.<br />

Mrs. Kaka John, a JAMB staff, said that the exam did not commence on time because of the early morning bomb blast, which made many candidates stay away.<br />
<br />
“We were supposed to start very early at 9:00 a.m. but I think because of the fear, the students did not show up. This made us start around 10am.<br />
<br />
” Also, the security agencies did not also show up on time because many of them had moved to the scene of the blasts. Also, the NSCDC did not show up on time,” she said.Haliru Umar, The JAMB Supervisor, at the ETC Centre one and two said that about 4,000 students would be sitting for the exam in the centre.<br />
<br />
“In this centre this morning, we started with about 250 students. We still have about 17 more sessions for the exams.<br />
<br />
"So far, the exercise was very successful as some of them have started coming out.<br />
<br />
“We have taken good security measures by providing sufficient security to protect the students to enable them to write their exams successfully,” he said.<br />
<br />
Halima Isa, one of the Candidates said she wrote the test in fear but said it was successful.<br />
<br />
“We were scared because there was bomb last but I think everything is fine now,” she said.</div>

“I’m not trying to be self-righteous, if you have personal or self-worth, there is no need for you to be corrupt; how much money would be given to kill your conscience, most of the corrupt people are victims of inferiority complex, that is why they loot to please their egos.<br />

“Buhari is fighting corruption very well, because if you are corrupt, you can’t fight corruption. Buhari has brought out the best characters of Nigerians and the worst aspect of Nigerians.<br />

THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have declared that the current N18,000 minimum wage, being paid to Nigerian workers is an insult, while the N56,000 they jointly proposed to the government a year ago is grossly inadequate.<br />

Deputy President of NLC and Chairman, May Day Planning Committee, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, made this known when he spoke exclusively with Sunday Tribune, in Abuja on the issue of minimum wage and the workers protest against top government official that disrupted the May Day rally at Eagles Square, Abuja.<br />
<br />
Following the ugly incidence that forced the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the Speaker, House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari; and other top government functionaries out of the May Day venue, the Federal Government held a crucial meeting with labour last Tuesday.<br />
<br />
While justifying happened during the May Day, Comrade Adeyemi, who is also the General Secretary of NASU, said Nigerian workers are being insulted with the minimum wage of N18, 000.<br />
<br />
He stated that the N56,000 earlier proposed is now less than $200 per month is grossly inadequate, hence, labour cannot afford to be flexible during negotiation by the Tripartite Committee on minimum to be set up any moment from now.<br />
<br />
With the present economic reality, he pointed out that labour will not shift its position on its earlier demand for N56,000, adding that labour will not go into negotiation with government and failed to achieve anything.<br />
<br />
He said:”The truth of the matter is that it is not possible for labour to go into a struggle like this and come out with nothing. It has never happened and it is not going to happen in our time.<br />
<br />
“It is as simple as that. It is not going to happen in our time because everything points to the fact that what is currently paid is clearly an insult.”<br />
<br />
Comrade Adeyemi added: Why won’t be rigid? In the face of all these wastages and stealing, will you as a labour leader go and ask for Peanut? I don’t think you will do that and that is not the position of Labour.<br />
<br />
“If we go there and we are talking about the flexibility of labour even before we start, it means that we are not serious, it means that we didn’t do our work well that we don’t have justification for our demand.<br />
<br />
“Before that amount was put to government, labour has done its own work properly, put into consideration everything now, if you look at the cost of food in 2011, when we had the last minimum wage and now, everything has changed.”<br />
<br />
He pointed out that today, N18,000 cannot buy a bag of rice, while N56,000 cannot pay for a return ticket from Abuja to Lagos.<br />
<br />
Adeyemi said: “So what I am saying is that ideally, N56,000 is grossly inadequate as minimum wage if you take statistics and data of minimum wage across the range of countries in Europe and in some Africa countries.<br />
<br />
“What we are demanding for here is that if the will is there, it’s something that is doable. N56,000 cannot pay for a return ticket from Lagos to Abuja and Abuja to Lagos. There is no magic about that. The economy is bastardized, bargaining power of the people has being decimated, there are thieves everywhere in government.”<br />
<br />
labour is already putting in place strategies to confront the governors, adding, “I am sure I will tell you that the labour leaders are strategizing as to how to confront these people.”<br />
<br />
He regretted that some of the governors were kicking against were taking between N400 million and N1 billion monthly for security votes which they don’t account for, adding that they took that position so that they would have enough money to play around.<br />
<br />
“My take on this is that those saying that are clearly insincere, dis-honest, they are people who want a lot of money to be floating so that they can steal the money and amongst the elements are governors who are pushing that even N18,000 they cannot pay.<br />
<br />
“But these are the same elements that collect every month N300million, N400million, N500million, N1billion as security vote without accounting for the money.”<br />
<br />
He also warned that the fight against corruption won’t be won if workers are paid poorly.<br />
<br />
He emphasized that the action of workers at the May Day rally in Abuja was not a surprise to him, rather, he said the action was positive.<br />
<br />
“It is a very positive development. Don’t be surprised I am sounding like this because there is tendency for people in Government to think that it’s the leadership of labour that is deliberately fomenting trouble in the country; that we don’t have the backing of our members.<br />
<br />
“They have seen themselves that look, if we tell them something that they need to move fast on this matter, they have every reason to listen to us because those workers are already out of patient and they have seen it. So, for me it is positive.”</div>

The fan, Mathew Irondu, a Construction Engineer, said on Saturday that he named the boy, born last Thursday after the club’s Coach Antonio Conte and Nigerian star, Victor Moses, as his own way of celebrating the win.<br />
<br />
According to him, the duo were instrumental to the club’s stunning league success as the naming would eternally remind him of the title win.<br />
<br />
“This win is most significant for me because it is the first by Chelsea since I switched my supporter ship to the club from Arsenal FC.<br />
<br />
“I had endured years of EPL drought from Arsenal which made me switch to Chelsea and I celebrated it this way because I don’t have money to make merriment.<br />
<br />
“This is my first child and I fervently pray that his birth, a day before Chelsea’s league win, will bring good tidings to my family, the club and their fans across the globe,” he said.<br />

He attributed the feat to hard work, dedication, commitment, the tactical acumen of Coach Antonio Conte and impeccable support of Owner Roman Abramovich and fans across the globe.<br />

“The club was desirous to erase the memory of the preceding season, its worst in recent times where it finished an abysmal 10th position on the league standings.<br />

“The result was that the club’s demolition of other teams knew no home and away boundaries coupled with a seven and intermittent four points lead over its closest rival, Tottenham Hotspurs FC.<br />

Ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and a former member of the House of Representatives (Owerri Federal Constituency), Mr. Uche Onyeagocha, has raised the alarm that Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, is plotting to make his son-in-law who also doubles as his Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, his successor.<br />

Onyeagocha, who is also a human rights lawyer, said it was the reason Okorocha had floated the Ugwumba Movement and appointed Uche Nwosu to run it.<br />

Onyeagocha dismissed Okorocha’s arguments that “at no time in the history of the state did any party abdicate its governorship ticket to any zone without a contest from other zones,” recalling that in 2015, the APC zoned its governorship ticket to Orlu zone, with nobody from Okigwe or Owerri zone contesting for it.<br />
<br />
“In fact, the ticket was preserved precisely for Okorocha family; when he went out to contest for the presidency, his son-in-law held the governorship ticket in waiting for him, not because there was no credible person from other zones but it was done in good faith,” Onyeagocha said.<br />
<br />
Insisting on the “principle of Imo charter of equity” which rotates the governorship seat among the three zones of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe, Onyeagocha said the people of Imo State, comprising Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri, were united and irrevocably resolved that Uche Nwosu will not succeed his father-in-law.<br />
<br />
“We therefore respectfully urge His Excellency Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha to discountenance any advice in this direction as nothing but the handiwork of undertakers, enemies and mischief makers who have set out to rubbish his political career.<br />
<br />
“We also urge him to focus on his presidential ambition in the interest of Nd’Igbo,” Onyeagocha counselled.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">On Monday, April 24, 2017, Oke was sent to buy petrol at a fuel station close to the Okes’ residence in Mile 12 area of Lagos but has not come home till date.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Truly, Racheal has lived the agony of losing someone she cherished with all of her heart, but doubts that she can survive any more loss.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Since the incident, family members have been worried about Racheal’s health and eating habit and assurances that they were doing all they could to find Oke have not helped.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“I cannot eat; I cannot bathe. How can I eat when my grandson is still missing?” Racheal asked.</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Although Racheal retired many years ago as a trader and lives in a drab building in a rundown part of Lagos, she was desperate to have her grandson back, even if it means paying a huge ransom.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“When my son died, I consoled myself that he left a son behind- his only child. And now, we cannot find him and don’t know what happened to him. I see my late son in the boy, so I am devastated by the incident. His loss is a huge blow and my only prayer is that I see him alive again.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“If he was kidnapped and his abductors want ransom, I will give it to them. They should ask for anything they want, I will give it to them as long as they can return my grandson to me. I will pay any amount they want to collect,” she said with a note of desperation.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The fuel station Oke, a Junior Secondary School Two pupil of Ayedere Ajibola Secondary School, Ketu, went to, is just about 300 metres away from his grandmother’s house.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">His mother, Ebunola, lives with her mother in Ikorodu and only visits her son at his paternal grandmother’s house in Mile 12 when she wants to see him.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">She expressed sadness over the incident, she said:</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“He is a gentle boy and wouldn’t hurt a fly. We have looked everywhere for him but there has been no luck and nobody has contacted the family to demand for ransom. We are confused and don’t know where to go to again,” </blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Oke’s case has been reported by the family at Ketu Divisional Police Headquarters, where the police promised to work with other stations to find him.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">His uncle, Felix Oke, who said it has been hard for the family since his nephew was missing, however, added that they lacked the courage to search for Oke at nearby morgues and hospitals.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“The family lacks the courage to go to the hospital or the mortuary to look for him to see if there is any chance that he may be there. No, we are not going to do that. And I know that if he were to be in a hospital, he would have called our mobile telephone numbers because he knows them by heart,” he said.</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">According to Felix, the family has resorted to prayers as it had no idea of where else to go.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">He said, “Apart from reporting the case to the police, we have announced it on a radio station. It was not the first time he had gone to buy fuel there so initially, when he did not return on time, they thought he had lost the money that was given to him and was afraid to come home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“So they went to the station to ask for him but the attendants there said they attended to many boys of his age group and could not identify him. There was no account of any incident along the route to the fuel station, so we were perplexed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“We went to our second family house in Ketu to see if he had gone there but there was no sign of him. So we started calling everyone we know to check if they saw him, but still, there was nothing. He left home around 7.15 am on that day. And that was not the first time that he was sent to buy fuel or anything.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">A source at the Ketu Police Divisional Headquarters said that kidnapping was not common in the area, but that it was not being ruled out along with the fact that Oke could have run away from home to join a gang.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">A statement by Army spokesman Brigadier General Sani Usan said the attention of Nigerian Army has been drawn to two video clips released by one of the released Boko Haram terrorists in exchange for the abducted Chibok school girls. </div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He said: "in the first clip the terrorist, among other things, made boastful and spurious allegations, while the second clip was about alleged indoctrination of some of the abducted Chibok school girls in captivity." </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He added that: "We wish to state that the terrorist has lost touch with current realities. It was aimed at seeking relevance and attention."<br />
"As you are all aware, he was a direct beneficiary of the process that led to the release of 82 of the abducted girls, and does not have a say or capacity to do anything, therefore his threats should be ignored." Usman said.<br />
He further said: "We would like to assure the public that the Nigerian Army is totally committed to the Federal Government’s determined efforts of rescuing all abducted persons and peace in the country."</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He said the army would not relent efforts of clearing the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists through the ongoing clearance operations. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He also said the Nigerian Air Force is unrelenting in its bombardment while other Security Agencies are equally doing their best. </div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He said: "Therefore, we wish to solicit for more support, cooperation and understanding of the public, particularly members of the Press."<br />
"We should not give in to terrorists’ propaganda and empty threats. We have come to a very critical stage of the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria that require more patriotism and security consciousness by all and sundry.<br />
"Gone were the days when people glamorize terrorists and their criminal acts," The Army statement said.</blockquote>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He told reporters, “There is a very thin line between being funny and being offensive; some people don’t know how to tread it because a lot of people have come into comedy because of the financial reward.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“So there is an influx of people into it because of the unemployment rate, people who have a very little sense of humour would jump into it and make it look like it’s their escape route to financial glory.<br />
“So you have a lot of that going on and what that does is that when all comers come into this, you have quacks, people who don’t know the difference between their left & right; and so when they come on stage to tell jokes they jump at anything that they want to.”</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The acclaimed king of Nigerian comedy further advised present comedians to strive to acquire an in-depth understanding of the humour making craft to avoid the risk of getting into trouble after cracking jokes on stage.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“Comedians should know that it is not everyone that you relate with; you need to have a relationship with certain people; you need to familiarize yourself with the audience for you to get away with certain things that you want to say”, he added.</blockquote>
