No fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead and 22 others injured on Friday night after two vehicles collided along Gbongan-Ibadan road in Osun State.
The accident, which occurred around 9.05pm, took place opposite Ayedaade local government secretariat in the state.
The spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Osun State chapter, Agnes Ogungbemi in a signal said the accident involved two commercial vehicles, a White Mazda E2000 Bus and a Black Toyota Hiace Bus with registration numbers KJA392YA and GWL427YM respectively.
The FRSC spokesperson revealed that the vehicles had a head-on collision probably caused by route and speed limit violation.

She further said 16 of the injured victims were taken to Ariremako Hospital in Gbongan while the remaining 6 were taken to Osogbo Central Hospital.
“10 corpses were deposited at OAUTH Ile Ife morgue.
“The remaining corpse was taken by the insisting relatives who are from the Hausa community in Lagos,” she added.

A 32-year-old iron bender, Francis Stephen, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
The accused person reportedly committed the crime on April 21, 2021, at Oke-Atan area in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
He was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused person conspired with others still at large to steal a Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle with registration number, AGL 732 QM, chassis number, MD2A18AY8KWJ188845 and engine number, DUZWLK80349.

The prosecutor said the stolen motorcycle, which is worth N235,000, belonged to one Mr Peter Olaiya.
He said the accused person also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breakdown of law and order in the area, as he and the others at large attacked the complainant.
The offence committed contravened Sections 249(d), 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him
The defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms, pledging that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate, Mrs Busayo Adediwura, granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She added that the surety must produce three years’ tax clearance certificate.
The case was adjourned till July 16, 2021, for substantive hearing.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has again lambasted renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi over alleged ties with bandits who are currently wreaking havoc in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Recall that the controversial cleric had several times defended the bandits who are consistently abducting school children, travellers and other residents in the North, stating that they were not up for killing but to make some money.
Gumi, who has met with the bandits in forests several times, had likened their activities to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) stating that the secessionist group are more dangerous than the bandits.
Recently, Gumi accused some personnel of the Nigerian Army of colluding with the criminal elements for supply of weapons and drugs.

Owing to the activities of the cleric with bandits, Fani-Kayode who described him as a terrorist, said he should have been arrested long ago.
He made the remark on Saturday morning via a tweet from his verified Twitter handle.
The tweet reads, “The issue is not who goes into the forest to meet the terrorists with you but rather what you say to them when you get there & what you gain by constantly defending them & attempting to justify and rationalise their barbaric actions.
“You are their best friend: that makes you a terrorist as well and you ought to have been arrested long ago.”

The Lagos State Police Command has released the father of 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos, who allegedly stabbed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, to death.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu said that the suspect’s father and one Nkechi Mogbo, have been released on bail.
It was learnt that Chidinma Ojukwu’s father was arrested for hindering his daughter’s arrest at their residence in the Alagomeji area of the state.
Until Chidinma’s arrest, Mogbo had been in police custody after investigation showed that she operated the service apartment where the University of Lagos undergraduate allegedly killed Ataga.

The suspect, while being paraded at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday, confessed to have committed the crime.
Speaking with newsmen on Friday, Odumosu said though investigation was ongoing, an order had been given for Mogbo’s release on bail, adding that Chidinma’s father had also been released.
He stated that Chidinma’s account of how she perpetrated the crime exonerated her father and Mogbo.
Odumosu said, “Chidinma’s statement exonerated her father as she said that he was not aware of the incident. We released him. Also, the lady in our custody, one Mrs Nkechi Mogbo, who leased the flat from the property owner and used it for a service apartment, has been released on bail.
“After Magbo was arrested, she assisted the police because of the information she gave us. Now that we got the principal suspect, and the fact that the principal suspect confessed that she singularly committed the act, and equally went further to explain that she never met Nkechi Mogbo, but that she only phoned her and that they transacted all the business online, I have ordered her release on bail while we continue our investigation.
“However, if any other thing during the investigation points to her, bail is not the end of the case and we will bring her back.”
It was gathered that Magbo returned to Nigeria after studying abroad. When she returned, she started the business of property letting, among other businesses.

Nigerian singer, Adekunle Temitope popularly known as “Small Doctor has revealed that he has seven children which include five adopted kids, a son and a daughter.
The singer who made the shocking revelation during an interview on the Nancy Isime show on Friday stated that he is married and his family reside in Canada.
He also recounted his struggles while growing up, adding that he used to be a bus conductor in Agege, Lagos State.
The singer, however, noted that his poor family background didn’t stop him from believing in himself, adding that he is where he is today because he didn’t fail to plan well.

“I started on the streets of Agege in Lagos State as a bus conductor and then a driver.
“If anyone had told me that today, I will get a visa to Canada or even be able to fly to Canada, I would have never believed it.
“Look at me today, I can never believe I would have access to Canada not to talk of having a family there.
“I have a family and I am married. I have seven children – Five adopted kids, a son and a daughter.
“So I have a wife and children and they are all based in Canada,” he said.
However when asked what he would tell the man that wakes up at 4.am every morning to work as a bus conductor or a driver.
In his response, the singer said he would tell the man that “If he fails to plan, then he plans to fail.
“There’s no limitations to what one can achieve in life,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, approved the review of the timeline for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Congresses.
The President received the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) at State House, Abuja.
He endorsed the Progress Report, the schedule of outstanding activities with regards to Congresses, the National Convention and the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election.
The President approved Ward Congresses to be held on 24th July, 2021, Local Government Congresses on 14th August, 2021 and State Congresses on 18th September, 2021.

The Police in Lagos State has hailed the detectives that tracked Chidinma, the suspect accused of killing the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.
The Police, on Wednesday, paraded Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, 21, a student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She narrated how Ataga, 50, was killed.
Items found with her included an International Passport, a fake driver’s license, a National Identification Card, a UNILAG identity card, among others.
Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi attributed the timely arrest to the new strategies injected into the security system of the state.

Adejobi said the command had adopted scientific and forensic measures of unravelling crimes and criminality in Lagos.
He recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu recently established the ICT/Tracking Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
The unit, named D23, is headed by SP Kasumu Rilwan, a computer scientist.
“The unit has been instrumental to many feats recorded by the command, including the arrest of the prime suspect in the alleged murder of Michael Usifo Ataga, one Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu.”
Adejobi added that Odumosu also created the Special Squad and the Strike Team to complement existing department and units.
“The new squads have played many roles in suppressing and keeping criminals and hoodlums at bay in Lagos State,” the spokesman added.

Most Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirants in today’s primary election will not have the opportunity to vote for themselves.
The final list of automatic delegates for today’s governorship primary election in Anambra State shows that aspirants running for the ticket of the party who have not held positions in the party, public office or even contested election in the party do not qualify as automatic delegates.
The list showed that a total of 229 delegates will participate in the election, while 21 persons with disabilities who were earlier added to the list were dropped.
A press statement by the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Col Austin Akobundu, which was obtained by newsmen stated that the reason for dropping persons with disabilities was because the state executive of the party which nominated them has been dissolved.

Akobundu’s statement showed that the number of delegates in the 21 local government areas of the state varies.
While Dunukofia Local Government Area has the least number of delegates, with just three persons, Awka South Local Government Area has the highest with 23 delegates.

Abidemi Rufai, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who is charged in Washington state over unemployment scam, has been denied bail.
Rufai was suspended in May by Gov Abiodun after news broke out that he was arrested in the United States for allegedly stealing more than $350,000 in jobless benefits as part of Washington state’s $650 million unemployment fraud.
A federal judge ruled on Friday that Rufai “will remain in jail until his trial”.
U.S. District Judge, Benjamin Settle of Tacoma, had agreed with federal prosecutors that the suspect represented a flight risk and had on Friday reversed an earlier order granting him pretrial release.

On May 21, a New York court held that Rufai could be released before trial on a $300,000 “surety” bond, but the federal judge delayed the release for federal prosecutors appeal.
But on Friday, Settle ruled that Abidemi Rufai “poses a serious risk of nonappearance.”
The judge was said to have ordered that Rufai, who is detained in New York, should be transported by federal marshals to Washington for trial, which is slated for August 31.
A Tacoma Attorney, Lance Hester, who is one of Rufai’s lawyers, had said his client could pray the court to reconsider the ruling if there were changes in his circumstances.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is waiting for the outcome of the National Assembly’s consultations on the restructuring of Nigeria.
The President gave the hint when he received the leadership of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.
The National Executive of the body is led by Professor Benjamin Okaba. The meeting was attended by Ijaw elders, including monarchs.
Buhari commended INC’s recent affirmation of belief in one Nigeria and declaration of support for the fight against insecurity.

The President implored the leadership of the association to use its influence to keep Nigeria a united, indivisible entity.
He addressed restructuring, creation of states, allocation of operational licenses for marginal fields to Ijaw people, inauguration of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), among others.
On restructuring, Buhari pointed out that the National Assembly is working on the calls and has concluded regional consultations.
‘‘As soon as they finalise the process, necessary action would not be delayed on my part,’’ he assured.
On the creation of two additional states and more local government areas for the Ijaw people, the President said it is a legislative matter.
On NDDC, the Nigerian leader pledged that the board would be inaugurated as soon as the forensic audit report is submitted and accepted.
On the Hydrocarbon Remediation Project, Buhari confirmed he had directed the Ministry of Environment to ensure that the remediation efforts in Ogoni are implemented.

MEN of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested the father Chidinma Ojukwu, who allegedly stabbed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, to death.
A top police source, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter said that the suspect and her father were arrested at their residence, No. 57 Akinwunmi Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, on Wednesday.
The source said the father was arrested for resisting Chidinma’s arrest and for becoming violent with policemen, who went to apprehend her.
The source added that the man did not believe that his daughter committed any crime until she confessed on Thursday, adding that he was being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba.

“She (Chidinma) stays with her dad. Her dad and mom don’t live together. Her father was arrested on Wednesday, because he resisted his daughter’s arrest. He never believed that his daughter committed any crime until Thursday. He is at Panti as we speak, but he was not paraded today (Thursday),” the source stated.
Chidinma, who claimed to be a 300-level student in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, confessed to stabbing Ataga to death while being paraded at the state police command headquarters, Ikeja,.
A lecturer in the department, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity said, “I know her (Chidinma) because of her beauty and innocent look. She is an introvert to the core.
“Left for her striking beauty, she is not likely to be noticed by anyone, because she doesn’t talk in class.”
Another lecturer also confirmed that Chidinma is a 300-level student in the department.
“Yes, in our group chats, where there are several professors, it was confirmed that she is a 300-level part time student of Mass Communication, UNILAG,” the lecturer said.
One of the classmates, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Yes, she (Chidinma) is a 300-level part time student of Mass Communication. I know her, but we are not on talking terms; she doesn’t interact with many people. She is a recluse.
“She is a cool girl, who comes for lectures and leave afterwards; she has few friends, who she talks to. I don’t really know much about her.”
Another student said he had not seen her in the current semester, adding that their lectures could not hold on Thursday as the lecturers did not turn up.
“I have not seen her this semester since we resumed on May 10. We were supposed to have lectures today, but the lecturers did not come. Likewise, her issue has been a major topic on our WhatsApp platform; it was a chaotic debate as members took sides,” he said.
The students said they usually receive lectures between 5pm and 8.30pm weekdays.
The spokesperson for UNILAG, Nonye Oguama, refused to confirm if Chidinma was indeed a student of the institution.
When contacted by Punch Metro after the parade, Oguama said she would not respond and slammed the media for publishing Chidinma’s claim of being a student of the institution.
“You did not contact me before. You are just doing so now after you had published it on your website. We have no comments,” she angrily responded.
When challenged with the fact that the parade was a live broadcast, the UNILAG spokesperson remained adamant, insisting that the name of the institution should not have been mentioned.
During her parade, Chidinma confessed to withdrawing N380,000 from the deceased’s account to pay her school fees.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had earlier said the 21-year-old undergraduate was tracked for 48 hours and was arrested at her parents’ residence in the Yaba area of the state on Wednesday.
He stated that casual workers cleaning the building, where the incident took place, discovered Ataga’s remains in the service apartment.
Odumosu said, “The victim, one Usifo Michael Ataga, happened to operate a media house. The lady, Chidinma Ojukwu, 21, a 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, checked into the service apartment in Lekki with the man on a Sunday.
“They were there together as friends, but on Tuesday, she departed and left the man inside. So, when the man did not come out on Tuesday and Wednesday, those who were evacuating the trash bins went in to do their normal duty and discovered that the door to the apartment was  half opened.
“When they entered, Ataga was found on the floor in a pool of blood. He wore only his pair of boxers. So, we started our investigation and we were able to track the prime suspect and got her arrested. She has confessed to the crime.
“She said the drugs and alcohol that both of then took got them high and they were trying to have fun, but she resisted and the man insisted on having his way and that led to the fracas. She reached out for the kitchen knife and stabbed the man twice in the neck and once in the stomach. After he died, she took his belongings and fled.”
Chidinma said that Ataga became violent after she turned down his request for more s3x, adding that she stabbed him under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
She said, “I checked for the place we lodged in online on Sunday and sent the details to him and he paid. On Monday, we were together drinking and smoking, we had fun and so I went to get food. On Tuesday, he was trying to make advances at me, but I was tired and he became violent and forced his way and I gave in.
“In the afternoon, we smoked and ate. We became high and I wasn’t happy with the first round of s3x; so, I was on my own smoking, drinking and eating my food when he came to me, while I was watching a movie.
“I told him I was not happy with what he did the first time. I told him he was not assisting me with anything, but was playing around with me. He told me to take his ATM card and withdraw any amount I wanted and gave me the PIN, but I told him that was not what I meant.
“So, he became violent; I was defending myself and at some point, he hit my head on the wall and I retaliated. He was choking me and I was on the kitchen cabinet, so I stretched out and grabbed a knife and stabbed him twice in the neck and once in the stomach.”
When Ataga became weak, Chidinma said she fled the apartment and withdrew money from his account for her school fees.
She said, “We smoked SK and Loud. While he was lying there, I changed my cloth, looked for the key from where he kept it, and left the room. When I left, I didn’t reach out to anybody. I didn’t feel good about what I did.
“I withdrew N380,000 and not N5m from his account. I feel a lot of remorse. I wanted to use the money I withdrew to pay my school fees. I felt disappointed when the police arrested me at my parents’ house and it was when I was arrested around 10pm that my parents got to know about the incident.
“I live with my parents; I left home on Sunday and told them that I was going for ushering job. I used the foreign number I generated in texting the owner of the apartment.”
Exhibits recovered from Chidinma include a driving licence, complimentary cards, Access Bank’s statement of account, a Nigerian passport with number B50010434 belonging to the suspect, one fake driving licence bearing Mary Johnson with the suspect’s photograph, one National Identification card bearing the suspect’s name, UBA Automated Teller Machine debit card bearing the suspect’s name and a University of Lagos ID card in her name.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon has awarded Aliko Dangote the country’s highest civilian honour – the Commander of the National Order of Valour.
Biya said honour was conferred on Dangote in recognition of his efforts in infrastructural development of Cameroon and Africa through his cement plants.
At the conferment ceremony held at the Unity Palace, Yaoundé on 23 June, Biya praised Dangote’s various efforts to promote industrialisation across Africa through the building of cement plants in several African countries.
He noted that these plants have provided thousands of direct and indirect employment at their various locations, to boost the economies of their host countries, just like in Cameroon.
<a name='more' id="more"></a>He urged Dangote to consider more investments in the manufacturing sector in Cameroon, explaining that there are numerous business opportunities in the country.
He maintained that his government is focused on promoting a business-friendly environment to make the country more attractive and an investors’ destination.
Dangote thanked President Biya and the people of Cameroon for the great honour done to him in the award of the nation’s highest civilian honour.
He disclosed that there are plans to diversify the group’s investments in Cameroon, starting with energy.
“We have plans to expand our investment to other sectors beginning with oil and gas while our capacity in cement will be expanded”.
He commended the Cameroonian government for providing an enabling environment, which aided the successful completion of the Dangote Cement plant.
He also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the President and cabinet in solving the challenges encountered in the construction of the plant.
“At the inception of our construction activities at the plant, we encountered several challenges, but the government stepped in and ensured that we overcame these initial problems.
“Also, the incentives by the Government to investors are encouraging. We feel very much at home here in Cameroon because of the business-friendly environment. If demand for cement increases, we will increase the capacity of the plant and make the country self-sufficient in cement production.”

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has disclosed that some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, attempted to hijack the 774,000 Special Works Scheme under this dispensation.
Keyamo disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari, however, saved the scheme from being hijacked by the members.
He disclosed this during the weekly Ministerial Media Chat at the State House yesterday.
According to Keyamo: “Before the election of 2019, many of our APC members were mad. They were mad that this programme should be for APC so that we can use it to run elections.

“But the President said no, the President would laugh despite all that; they were threatening that we are going to lose the election. PDP members were using this programme to empower their people in this state.
“APC had nothing to empower. Didn’t the President win? He won; he won more people to his side by that.”
The Special Public Works Programme was launched in 2021 by the Federal Government and aimed to employ 1000 youths across the 774 local government areas for three months.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has explained that it is significant for the Federal Government to continue to borrow responsibly to fund critical projects in Nigeria because the country is poor.
Lawan disclosed this on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents following a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
The Senate President believes it is not reasonable for the Federal Government to tax the people more in the face of the present economic condition, adding that the country’s infrastructure must be developed.
He said, “You can’t, in my view and judgement, tax Nigerians further for you to raise the money for infrastructural development; other countries do that, but we’ve serious situation across the country.

“So, you can’t put taxes on the people. The only option left is for us to borrow responsibly, utilise prudently and economically, and ensure that the projects are self-sustaining; that they can pay back the loan.”
He added, “Our options are really very limited as a country. First, we don’t have the necessary revenue; Nigeria is poor, we shouldn’t deceive ourselves. Nigeria is not rich given the circumstances we live in, given the challenges we have.
“Our resources are so low, our revenues are so low; therefore, the option of not doing anything just to sit (because we’ve no money, we should not go for infrastructure development) is not an option worthy of consideration. You cannot keep the economy stagnant.”

A statue of George Floyd erected in Brooklyn has been defaced just less than a week after its unveiling.
The 700-pounds bronze statue of George Floyd was unveiled in Brooklyn, a predominantly African American city in Newark on June 19, in commemoration of the Juneteenth celebration.
The statue, which depicts Floyd sitting on a bench, was commissioned by actor and filmmaker Leon Pinkeye and sculpted by artist Stanley Watts as a donation to the city.
The statue was, however, defaced on Thursday with white and black spray paint.

The website and logo of the white suprematist group, Patriot Front, was also found on the statue, according to DailyMail.
Four suspects connected to the vandalism were caught on camera and the police is working to identify them.
The surveillance footage showed four unidentified individuals who approached the statue at around 3.40am, before they walked away a short time later.
According to the police, the vandalism is being treated as a hate crime.
This act was carried out day before the former Minneapolis police officer convicted in Floyd’s death, Derek Chauvin, is set to face sentencing.
Floyd, whose death sparked a global outcry against police brutality and racial injustice had his one year death anniversary celebrated last month with the US president inviting his family to the White House.
Minnesota Police officer, Derek Chauvin, who has been charged and found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter was caught on camera while kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than 9 minutes while the latter pled for breath.

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Friday, warned the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom concerning some of the things God showed him.
Primate Ayodele revealed that God showed him an assassination attempt against Ortom.
He warned the Governor to be careful of his outings, while also stating that he should work on land and ethnicity crisis in some local governments in the State.
The Primate issued the warning in a statement signed and forwarded to newsmen by his Media office.

Primate Ayodele also advised the governor not to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC, urging him to move closer to God to avert evil occurrence that is about to happen to him.
He said: ‘’Benue State government must be careful against attack. He must be careful against accidents, I see plans to assassinate him. He must watch his outings as from now on.
‘’The State should avert ethnicity crisis and land crisis in Apa, Obi, Oju local government. The Governor is a very sincere politician but they want to destabilize his government. He must be careful and pray not to cry over anyone in his cabinet members.’’
He spoke on the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra, stating that the election would hold no matter the threat of any group.

BBNaija reunion on Thursday night ended with a lot of drama with two female housemates, Kaisha and Lucy engaging in a physical fight.
It all started after Kaisha revealed that Ka3na disrespected her mother during a party they all attended.
According to Kaisha, her mother at a party liked Ka3na and wanted a picture with her but she asked her mother to come to her table.
Kaisha disapproved Ka3na’s attitude, describing it as disrespectful to her mother.

However, Ka3na in defence said she thought it was Kaisha’s manager that wanted a picture with her not her mother.
Lucy backed Ka3na on this and kept talking about the situation despite Kaisha’s demand that they stop talking about her mother on the show.
This angered Kaisha who then threw a pillow at Lucy, leading to a physical fight.
Although some scenes were cut out, viewers could see Lucy walking out without her wig and shoes on.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has asked Biafra agitators to allow the people take part in the Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise, CVR.
Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro made the appeal in a radio interview with Living Radio, where he said the possession of voter’s card was key to any form of agitation.
While noting that the mistakes of the past must not be repeated, Isiguzoro said Ndigbo across the world must take advantage of the current exercise.
Recall that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, had announced that a fresh CVR would commence on Monday June 28, 2012, and that it would last for one year.

Isiguzoro said in the interview that “the South-East is at the receiving end of everything in Nigeria, and it has been worrisome to the Igbo leadership, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide. So, it beckons on us to mobilize Ndigbo wherever you are, and you have come of age, we are asking you, in the 19 Northern States, here in Southern Nigeria, wherever you are, go out and register.
“You know we are disadvantaged based on the number of States we have in the South-East and it is affecting our voting strength but numerically, Igbos are everywhere, all over 36 States of this country, and behind the host of any State, the second population is that of the Igbos.
“What we are projecting is that, there should be aggressive campaigns in 774 local government areas in this country. Wherever you are, you lost confidence in the process in the past, we are looking for Igbo presidency 2023, and the best time is now- voting strength, go out and register.
“Now that they are doing Constitutional review, we are also advocating for diaspora voting. INEC should liaise with the diaspora commission and ministry of foreign affairs to use all the embassies and allow Nigerians abroad participate in voters’ registration exercise. The foreign missions must ensure that they provide facilities for such Nigerians to register.
“We are telling our brothers who are in self-determination struggle, that the best way, if you want to achieve anything you want to achieve is to have your voters’ card. The voters’ card is the power we have.”
On how the zone would battle the issue of insecurity, Isiguzoro condemned what he called “sponsored insecurity in the South-East.”
He stressed that “the South-East is known to be a very peaceful zone, the most vibrant investment destination, all of a sudden we started witnessing the destruction of facilities.
“However, we will use our dialect in the newly established Ohanaeze TV and radio to make sure that our people are aggressively mobilized. We have all hundreds of affiliated groups to Ohanaeze and we have got them involved in this campaign.
“The best for our people, on Monday the 28th, go out and cue. If the young ones can spend their money in BBNaija voting, this is time to vote out those you say are not doing well. Once you get the voters’ card, Ndigbo should wait for further directives.”
On 2023 presidency, he said the Ohanaeze would conduct a search and make sure a credible Igbo man was presented to Nigerians.
“We have what it takes, Igbos are known for merit, any attempt to thwart the 2023 president would not augur well for Nigeria, it will strengthen self determination, it will strengthen the agitation for Biafra.
“Only a Nigeria President of Igbo extraction will unite the country,” he cautioned.
He appealed to the INEC to ensure that card readers were deployed during the election to ensure a credible process.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has again accused Governor Hope Uzodinma of impoverishing the people of the State.
The Imo PDP Director-General of New Media, Collins Opuruzor made the accusation on his Facebook page.
He said the State where the Governor had superintended for more than one year was now the most deteriorated environment for business and investors in the country, according to the statistics of Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
The party spokesman said, “out of the 52.3 million dollars that came to the Southeast as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), in the last thirteen months, Abia and Anambra states got about 88percent of the total sum, while Enugu took the rest. Imo got zero!

The Kano State Chief Judge, Justice Nura Sagir, has approved the appointment of 34 additional Sharia Court judges in the state.
Mr Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, the Kano State Judiciary Spokesman, said this in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
According to him, the approval was sequel to having successfully passed the aptitude test as well as an interview conducted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Jibo-Ibrahim said the newly appointed Sharia Court judges would be sworn-in on June 25, 2021.

“All the newly appointed Sharia Court judges will be sworn-in on June 25, at the conference room of the High Court of Justice, Kano by 10 am,” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State had earlier this month said his administration has no problem with granting financial autonomy to the judicial arm of the government in the State.
Ganduje made the remarks during an interactive session with newsmen as part of the event to mark `Democracy Day’ in Kano.

Embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has arrived Lagos State High Court, Ikeja for his arraignment over s3xual assault charges.
The comedian was led in by prison officials to appear before Lagos State Special Offence and Domestic Violence Court.

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed confidence in the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) over its prompt response to challenges at the tertiary entrance examination.
MURIC Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, made this known when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
Akintola said the examination was well regulated.
According to him the body deserves commendation in view of its swift response to challenges.

“JAMB deserves accolade in view of its swift response to challenges and the disciplinary actions meted out to erring Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres during the ongoing JAMB examinations across the country.
“We are not saying JAMB is perfect, but the board has performed creditably well having succeeded in keeping its head above in the murky waters of the Nigerian ecosystem. We monitor national examinations in this country and we know what happens in many of them. But JAMB has been able to rise above the maddening crowd.
“The examination body has demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that it will not take any nonsense from anybody. The swift manner with which JAMB delisted 24 CBT Centres within 24 hours of receiving credible reports of their misdemeanour leaves us in no doubt whatsoever that there will be no hiding place for those who fall short of expectations.
“A case in point is one of the CBT Centres in Lagos where candidates who were billed to start the examination by 7 a.m., on Saturday, June 19, were kept sitting in the hall from 7 a.m., to 3 p.m., doing virtually nothing. Meanwhile, the 9 a.m., batch, as well as other batches, were kept waiting outside,” he said.
Akintola added “The candidates were only told to go home around 3.30 p.m., after wasting the whole day. The centre’s excuse was that its computer systems failed to come up.
“We were very excited when the centre’s name was found among the 25 delisted centres 24 hours later. We are still marvelling at the efficiency and high-level discipline manifested by JAMB.
”This is how things are made to work in a serious country. There must be consequences for negligence or if some people abdicate their responsibilities. What we need is strong systems and a culture of discipline. That is what JAMB is giving us.
“The posting of candidates far away from their bases is an area JAMB may want to look into for improvement. There is always room for better performance in any institution. We discovered during monitoring that some parents and guardians had to accompany their children and wards respectively to sleep overnight somewhere close to the centre.”
“We understand the need for JAMB to remove the proximity and comfort zone factor in order to reduce the level of examination malpractices but perhaps something can still be done to alleviate the suffering of both candidates, parents and wards. This will add lustre to JAMB’s human face.
“Credit must also be given to JAMB for ensuring that the persecution of female Muslim candidates which used to be widespread in the South West during its examination has been reduced to its barest minimum. This was made possible by adequate briefing and enlightenment organised by JAMB for its staff and ad hoc workers prior to the examinations.
“But MURIC still received reports that a few recalcitrant and overbearing security and ad hoc workers still delayed hijab-wearing female candidates for as long as one hour before permitting them to enter the examination hall.”
He suggested that a small leaflet containing the rights of candidates and limitations of officials be among documents to be downloaded by registered candidates.
He added that such a material could also be distributed among all officials at the examination centres, saying that candidates facing harassment and profiling could show such to overzealous security or ad hoc staff.
“Religious sentiment apart, examination officials should be made to realise that harassment of candidates for any reason at all before or during the examination may affect the emotional stability of such candidates and reduce their chances of giving their best during the examinations,” Akintola said.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), announced 44 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with Lagos state reporting 32.
Two other states and the FCT accounted for the rest.
“Rivers reported eight new cases, while FCT and Plateau recorded two cases each,” the NCDC said.
There was no COVID-19 related death. Death toll remained at 2,118.

The country’s cumulative caseload rose to 167,375, out of 2,266,591 samples tested.
NCDC said 163,917 cases have been discharged with about 1,599 cases are still active.

Following the cancellation of the 2021 Islamic pilgrimage by the Saudi government, the Ogun State Government said it has begun the refund of money to intending pilgrims.
It was learnt that in line with the directives of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board said the refund of payment for the year 2020/2021 hajj fare has commenced.
Recall that the cancellation of this year’s hajj to Mecca and Medinah was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Salau Babatunde, said in a statement that intending pilgrims seeking refund should visit the Board’s Secretariat, Block B Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta with evidence of payment receipts and other documents.
Salau stressed that those willing to defer their hajj fare deposits till the 2022 exercise should notify the Board of their decision in order to have them properly documented.
He assured all intending pilgrims not to panic over untoward rumours, saying their money was safe with the State government.

The management of a private institution in Abuja, Veritas University, has decided to introduce online learning following concerns raised by parents over security of students.
The university located in Bwari axis of Abuja is owned by the Catholic Church.
Recall that some schools shut down recently in Abuja over reports that some bandits operating in Niger State, including abducting students from schools, were sighted in some communities near the Federal Capital Territory.
Although the university was on mid-semester break as of the time, it had earlier postponed resumption indefinitely because of insecurity.

But our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that its management had decided to offer the online learning option to students whose parents were still raising fears over their safety on campus.
A parent, who did not want her name in print said that the school authority had already issued a circular announcing the decision to offer online learning.
Our correspondent sighted the latest circular signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr Stella Chizoba, asking parents to decide whether their children would resume physically or virtually.
Part of the circular read, “In recognition of this fact, therefore, and after due consultations, Veritas University Management has decided that the rest of the second semester of the 2021 session will be blended. That implies that lectures will be held both online and physically within the campus.
“In consequence, therefore, students and their parents/sponsors are free to decide whether to resume physically onsite in the university or to continue their lectures online.”

The Federal Capital Territory High Court which sat on appeal in Bwari, Abuja, has discharged and acquitted the member representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives, Victor Danzaria.
Danzaria was earlier convicted by an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly giving false evidence.
This was contained in a 20-page judgement obtained by our correspondent, in Gombe, on Wednesday.
The document stated that the court was presided over by Justice O. A. Musa alongside Justice A. O. Ebong, who after considering the plaintiff’s appeal, upheld and declared the entire proceedings of the Magistrate’s Court as a nullity, baseless and void in its entirety.

The Appellate Court held that by virtue of the provisions of Section 31 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), only the High Court of a State or the FCT can determine the nature of the complaint against him.

The Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday disclosed that one of its members had been killed in Imoru community in Ose Local Government Area in the state.
It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Bamidele Isibo, was shot by bandits on his way from Imoru to Ifon , where he had gone for political matter, on Saturday and passed away on Monday.
The late APC chieftain was said to be a member of the state executive committee of the party before his death.
The party’s Publicity Secretary Mr Alex Kalejaiye, who disclosed this in a statement, said Isibor died as a result of gunshot injury he sustained during the attack of the bandits. He was aged 62.

The statement read, “The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress regrets strongly the death of one of its members, Hon. Bamidele Emmanuel Isibor. He was 62 years old.
“Until his demise, Hon. Isibor, a retired top civil servant, and father of five, was a member of the State Executive Committee of the party.
“He was a dependable ally, and deeply committed to the development of APC, particularly in Ose Local Government area, where he was the party’s secretary. 
“The party scribe was attacked over the weekend, in company of others, on his way from Imoru to Ifon, headquarters of Ose Local Government area. He died of gunshot wounds on Monday.”
“The party condemns the violent attack on i’s stalwart which led to his painful exist, at the time the party is warming up for its congress.
“Security challenge has been a major focus of the APC-led government in Ondo State, for which so much has been done. The attack on Isibor and others has again underscored the need for every stakeholder to support the security initiative of the State Government to stamp out all forms of criminality.”
“Praying for the repose of his gentle soul, the party condole with the Isibor family, his community, and the APC fold in Ose, and indeed, Ondo State, asking God to grant us the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said he had not been briefed on the matter.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will today, Wednesday, hold a primary election to elect its candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
The election is expected to hold at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the State capital.
Four aspirants of the party who will be slugging it out in today’s primary election are: former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, a lawyer, Barr Damian Okolo and two lawmakers, Hon ThankGod Ibe and Hon Okwudili Nwankwo.
Meanwhile, It was gathered that there are plans by the party to crown Prof. Soludo as its candidate, and that the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has set motion in place to ensure that other aspirants support Soludo to emerge both as candidate and Governor of the State.

A source said Obiano had been working to ensure that the disqualified aspirants of the party withdrew their petitions and also support Soludo.
The source said, “Did you not see that Akachukwu Nwankpo who was disqualified by the party has already withdrawn his petition and also pledged support for Soludo?”
Confirming this, a chieftain of the party and member of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka told newsmen on telephone that the delegates of the party, the leaders of the party, including the Governor, are more favourable to Soludo’s candidature.
He said: “Anambra needs a governor that is creative, intelligent and who can handle the task of governance. The leaders of the party, our governor and all the delegates will support Soludo in today’s (Wednesday) election.
“Let me tell you, Soludo is the chairman of the Anambra 50 years development plan. What that means is that he already has the development plan of Anambra State for the next 50 years. You cannot leave that kind of person to go and elect another person.
“We will support Soludo to win the primary election of our party, and we will support him to win the governorship seat of Anambra State. At a time like this, every society needs a creative person as leader.”

Nigerian Instagram and TikTok comedian Aloma Isaac Junior popularly known as Zicsaloma has become the latest landlord as he unveiled his new house.
The comedian, from Kaduna state, shared the news on his Instagram Story and wrote; “God made me a landlord in such a short time. I am forever thankful to God.”
Another comedian Chinonso Ukah, also known as Nons Miraj a.k.a Ada Jesus, and others also shared the news on their Instagram Stories.
Zicsaloma is also a singer and former lecturer.

A Nigerian, Mark Okuo and his Kenyan accomplice, Florence Musau, have been accused of alleged conspiracy in internet scam, leading to over $4 million.
The 41-year-old Okuo and 36-year-old Musau were accused of depositing $1.3million into various bank accounts from their fraudulent proceeds since 2018, DailyMail reported.
About $195,000 was obtained through five romance scams from dating apps.
The duo has been working together since 2018 to defraud people via dating and banking platforms and on Monday, Musau pleaded guilty to wire and bank fraud.

According to a criminal complaint, Okuo had defrauded unsuspecting women on dating sites under the pretext of being a  US Army soldier from Africa or Middle East. 
He had always promised them marriage, as he asked the women to wire him money to enable him to leave the military and return to the US.
In one case, Okuo had professed love to a woman from Georgia, claiming that he needed $4,700 to return to the US to marry her.
The unsuspecting victim had transferred the amount to an account controlled by Okuo.
One of his victims had also transferred $137,000 to bank accounts that were controlled by Okuo and Musau, after falling for his tactics.
His Kenyan accomplice, Musau, after pleading guilty, was on Monday sentence to 30 years imprisonment beginning on October 14.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession and Development, Fidelis Nweze, is dead.
Nweze, a two-time commissioner in the state, was on his way to Enugu on Saturday in company of his driver when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary vehicle at the busy Eke Obinagu axis of Enugu North Local Government Area at about 7.30pm.
While it was gathered that his driver had been unconscious as of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Tuesday evening said Nweze died on Tuesday morning at the Intensive Care Unit of the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, where efforts by medical experts had been in top gear to save his life.
Meanwhile, following the death of the commissioner, Umahi declared Wednesday (today) public holidays across the state.

He ordered civil servants to stay at home while markets, banks, and all public places should remain closed.
According to Umahi, the Nigerian flag should be lowered in the state in honour of his aide.

A former Minister of Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung has highlighted what he described as the major problems of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, majority of the people in Buhari administration do not seem to work along the President’s ideology but rather prefer to fold their arms and watch him fail.
The former Minister spoke at the Army Resource Centre, Abuja on Tuesday, during the presentation of a book entitled ‘Buhari in Us’ written by Haruna Abdullahi.
He said, “When I finally met Mr. President, he said, ‘I know you are somebody who can tell someone how it is. I would want you to tell me anytime, anything however bitter or however hard it is.’

“My covenant with him is to tell him whenever he is right and also whenever he is wrong. The President has remained the man I know since then.
“Buhari has not changed. But Buhari is like an angel who is invited to dance in the mould and Nigerians expect him to return to heaven with a clean robe. Certainly, it would not happen.
“The second problem of Buhari is that he believes so much on himself and insists on doing what is right. But he also does not believe that the environment upon which he operates is different from what he is.
“The last problem is that Muhammadu Buhari is one of the most unfortunate leaders who meant well for the country but so many people who are supposed to help him succeed are just folding their arms watch him and say ‘do it let’s see!’

The 26 members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have celebrated their second year as lawmakers in the state, but with no constituency projects.
The ninth Assembly was constituted on June 10, with Olakunle Oluomo emerging as the Speaker.
With their emergence as lawmakers, there were high expectations from constituents, who saw a new beginning in a house made up of a sizeable number of youths.
This is simply so because the members had made promises to embark on various constituency projects if they were elected to represent their people at the ninth assembly.

However, it was reported that the lawmakers are yet to fulfill their promises, 24 months after they came on board.
Our correspondent understands that most of the lawmakers are now being dragged on social media by their constituents, who would not stop comparing them with their predecessors.
It will be recalled that one of the legislators from Ado-Odo/Ota II constituency, Musefiu Lamidi, had during plenary in October 2020, expressed concern over what he termed the “misinformation in some quarters that members had received constituency project allowances” but had failed to do the needful.
Lamidi said he was accused by his constituents that Governor Dapo Abiodun had approved money for them to embark on constituency projects; an insinuation that was dispelled by the Speaker.
For face saving, some of the lawmakers have been embarking on ‘lacklustre’ projects to prove their relevance to constituents, who are already running out of patience.
It was gathered that some of the legislators carry out the ‘minor projects’ from their monthly salaries, which the Speaker said stood between N500,000 and N680,000.
But, Speaker Oluomo said their inability to embark on constituency projects was as a result of Gov Abiodun’s refusal to release funds to that effect.
For the second time, Oluomo said in a recent interview on radio that the governor is yet to release a dime to the lawmakers for the execution of projects in their constituencies.
Oluomo said the State government asked them to hold on about their constituency projects.
“In Ogun State Assembly, this is two years, we have not gotten Kobo from the government for constituency projects. We have not gotten a dime for constituency projects. This is our second year now. We have not received a Kobo for constituency projects.
“And we understand the government, because there is no local government you will not see the government repairing schools, renovating primary health care centres. There is no local government you will go without seeing them (the government) doing one road or the other.
“What they are saying is that we should hold on about our constituency projects. We understand. But the truth of the matter is that no honourable member; apart from our salaries and allowances, in the last two years, has gotten anything,” Oluomo stated emphatically.
It was gathered that the legislators, while marking their second anniversary Tuesday, made a unanimous call for the implementation of more infrastructural projects, especially road construction and rehabilitation in their respective constituencies.
They appealed to Abiodun to release their constituency project allowances to enable them implement projects to complement the existing infrastructure put in place by the State Government in their constituencies.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will hand over to another apostle of his when he completes his assignment in 2023.
President Buhari’s tenure is expected to come to an end in 2023 when he must have completed another four years in office.
Osinbajo spoke at the Army Resource Centre, Abuja on Tuesday during the presentation of a book entitled ‘Buhari in Us’ written by Haruna Abdullahi.
The VIce President, who said that Buhari was conspired against and removed during his military regime, insisted that the President has given his best to Nigeria in his second coming “and will continue to do so without apology.”

“Those who are crying now and abusing our hero when you take what does not belong to a thief from a thief what do you expect him to do? Not to cry? Not to fight back? To fold his hands and begin to clap for you?” Osinbajo said.
The Vice President, represented by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, (Office of the Vice President), continued, “They will continue to cry while we continue to convince them that Mr. President is working for their long term benefit and that of their children… imagine that if he(Buhari) would have allowed to carry out the assignment then[as the military head of state we wouldn’t have been where we are today.
“All the basic things he is putting in place today would long been done. But it was possible then for them to do what they did [over threw him] because it was military regime… what we are saying is that this man meant well for this country. He’s a creature per excellence.
“Personal wealth means nothing to him. Who among us will be in charge of petroleum the time he was and will not tremendously wealthy.
“Here is a man who was GOC, who was Governor, Minister and yet no single corruption allegation on his head… let us tell them this time that Buhari will complete his appointment unblemished for he has got majority of Nigerians benefitting from his progressive initiatives.
“And when he’s through, he will hand over to another apostle of his who would continue and consolidate on his achievements.”
