I think they are the greatest enemy of democracy in Nigeria”.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“Because they have planted their cabal, they have planted their surrogate; they have planted their boys to take over, they want to bring a goat to come and lead lions and we say no”.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Reuben also called on President Buhari to go ahead and sign the new electoral Act as passed by the National Assembly despite the pressures against it.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“He should know that this is the biggest legacy he is going to bequeath to Nigerians. It is the cry of all Nigerians that democracy should be free and transparent”.</p>

Therefore, it is hoped that political solution to the current security challenges will be a long way in sustaining the corporate existence of Nigeria”.</p> <p>Ohanaeze commended Malami for the anticipated courage, insight and deep reflection and maintained that the ability to resolve the current security challenges in the country will place President Buhari on the right side of history.</p>

We wonder how long we will wait before we get our demand for improved salary approved just like that of National Identity Management Commission where workers’ salaries were recently upped by three hundred per cent.”</p>

Sir, the extortion of our market men and women, motorists, Keke and okada riders by motor park agents (Agbero), police people and other uniform men/women is also part of the reasons why we voted you to address it squarely.</p> <p>“The divine sojourn has just begun. An era unfolds the brand new before us, one which has been entrusted to you to steer the ship of its affairs to our collective desired destination. Our minds are at peace and our hopes stand high because once again the compass that directs our sail is held by the chosen competent captain.”</p> <p>Speaking on areas that need specific attention, Agabasiere counted unemployment and underemployment as among them, including youth festiveness and empowerment.</p> <p>“The issue of unemployment and underemployment among the youths in this country is no news to you and Anambra youths are not left out. Many of our youths have resorted to the negative development of individual talents to make ends meet.</p> <p>“The problem of unemployment and underemployment among the youths can be easily tackled by building companies and creating industries where this large number of youths of different levels of qualification can be employed or find themselves employed from the opportunities the existences of these industries would create,” Agbasiere pointed out.</p> <p>He also tasked Soludo to give education, healthcare, sports and other sectors the needed attention that will make the state glow.</p>

A Idelegbagbon, lawyer to Kanu and Hardley Apartment told the court that she is withdrawing all motions earlier filed in response to the suit in 2017.</p> <p>But AMCON’s lawyer, Jayes Ujah, objected to the request and further sought the imposition of fine on the respondents for filing frivolous motions.</p> <p>He said he had already filed his response to the processes sought to be withdrawn.</p> <p>Ujah further demanded that the court dismisses all new processes filed by Kanu and Hardley Apartment team on the ground that they contained facts that were earlier admitted to.</p> <p>And having listened to the submissions of both parties, the judge conceded to the respondents’ request for withdrawal of the motions, and also slammed a fine of N30,000 on them for stalling further hearing in the matter.</p> <p>Justice Aneke said that Kanu and Hardley Apartment should pay the money before the case resumes for hearing on January 20, 2022.</p> <p>AMCON had, in 2015, dragged Hardley Apartment, its directors, Gam-Ikon and Kanu before the court in its bid to recover alleged debt owed a bank.</p> <p>In an affidavit in support of the suit deposed to by a Credit Officer, Victor Igabor, AMCON said between May 2008 and January 2011, the bank offered Hardley Apartments a loan of N520,457,000.</p>

That is where people can begin to take the governor’s integrity a bit serious.</p> <p>“That the good people of our dear state are not availed the actual debt portfolio incurred to execute the failed mega schools and other abandoned projects scattered across the state, is a cracked integrity foundation on its own.”</p> <p>Meanwhile, the Osun State Government through the Secretary to the State Government, Wole Oyebamiji has reiterated its determination to keep its citizens and residents safe irrespective of mischief makers’ insinuations to the contrary.</p> <p>Making this known in statement to debunk claims that the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola was out to witch-hunt its predecessor with the decision to carry out integrity tests on the state-owned model schools, the government said safety of students, teachers and all workers in the affected schools is the reason for the exercise.</p> <p>Oyebamiji also said the governor will continue to do what is right for his people unlike the desperate elements trying to score cheap political points at the expense of human lives.</p>

The defendants have been embarrassed.”</p> <p>In his response, the judge replied that journalists did not need any permission to cover any court proceeding, stating that even at the Supreme Court, there are seats reserved for journalists known as the ‘press gallery.’</p> <p>“This is a case that will deserve public attention. You cannot bar the press from the court. If any journalist maligns your client, you can sue the journalist. I cannot stop the press from coming to court. I don’t have to know if the press is here. The court does not work on speculation. You have not directed my attention to any adverse publication on this case.”</p> <p>However, the hearing could not commence even when the Prosecuting Counsel, Bunmi Koyenikan, informed the court that three witnesses were present because of the items requested by the defence counsel.</p> <p>But the judge granted the defendants bail to the sum of N1m and one surety in like sum who must be a civil servant from the rank of Grade Level 13.</p> <p>Justice Fasanmi said the defendants had one week to perfect their bail conditions and adjourned the case till January 18, 2022, for the commencement of trial.</p>

It should not also be forgotten that Gov. Hope Uzodinma was the leader of the party’s campaign council and we all know how he became governor from a 4th position.</p> <p>“Soludo’s APGA should, therefore, not sleep with two eyes closed. They should be watchful of every step the APC and its candidate takes until every thing about this election is laid to rest.”</p> <p>Okwu, however, urged the APC not to toy with the mandate freely given to Soludo by the Anambra electorate as it would only worsen the security situation in the South-East.</p> <p>“We know they have the constitutional right to approach the tribunal if they feel aggrieved, but it is not necessary at all as Anambra election has been accepted by the majority, including other candidates to be credible.</p> <p>“Andy Uba should consider the largest interest of Ndigbo by resisting the temptation of going to court,” Okwu advised.</p>

We recognize that there’s a democratically-elected government.</p> <p>“However, it’s the considered position of Afenifere that the president urgently constitutes a Government of National Unity solely to undertake the restructuring of Nigeria, in consultation with the Nigerian people.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“The issue of restructuring is about our freedom. We’re democrats. I don’t want violence. I don’t want the country to break.”</p> <p>Adebanjo also called for a sovereign national conference on restructuring, adding that the country must be returned to the 1960 Independence Constitution before the 2023 general elections.</p> <p>He said, “The Nigeria that was agreed was, by design based on a parliamentary system of government.</p> <p>“The Nigeria that was agreed was one that recognized the rights of the federating regions to nationhood within the ambit of the federation that was birthed.</p> <p>“We remain convinced that the need for a sovereign national conference is imperative. The basis of the Nigerian state must be clearly negotiated.”</p>

We are not perturbed because the Federal Government approved the establishment of this Law School. We got a letter from Mr. President through the Honourable, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, approving the establishment of this Law School. And he stated graciously through the Council of Legal Education that it should be established here in Port Harcourt.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“We said we are going to provide all the necessary infrastructure. I can see the level of infrastructure that is being provided, which of course I have said before is going to be world-class infrastructure that is supposed to be in a Law School. We are not only providing this infrastructure, but we are also providing accommodation where the lecturers will live with all other things attached to it. And this Law School will have its own investment to take care of the Law School whether the government is here or not.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“From what I heard, the Deputy Senate President through some other lawmakers are sponsoring a bill to establish two schools per zone, and then saying that one will be in Yenagoa and one in Delta state, in the village of the Deputy Senate President. It is most unfortunate”.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>The Governor further stressed the need for the law school to be insulated from politics.</p>

And Prohibition) Act to provide comprehensive legal and institutional framework for prevention and prohibition of money laundering in Nigeria.”</p> <p>While supporting the bill, the lawmaker submitted that it would allow government to probe public officers on their unexplained wealth, assets and properties at home and abroad with possible recoveries.</p> <p>The bill was sponsored by Senator Umar, Sadiq Suleiman representing Kwara North Senatorial District. </p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Adeyemi insisted that no country develops without accountability of her public officers, hence, all those who have properties abroad should be made to tell Nigerians how they acquired them.</p> <p>Speaking further, he stated that the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be more determined to fight corruption.</p> <p>“There is no doubt that the present government has fought corruption than any Government in the history of this country.</p> <p>“There is no doubt that billions of Dollars and pound sterling have been siphoned away from our system to foreign countries especially by those who have held political office in time past.</p> <p>“In seconding this bill, I want to say we must also look at how we can enlarge the net in apprehending those who have siphoned money from this country.</p> <p>“In essence, this bill must take into consideration, public office holders and their immediate families who have properties abroad to give account of how they acquired these properties.</p> <p>“This country many people who have held public offices in time past siphoned money abroad where they acquired properties in the names of their wives and their children.</p> <p>“I want to submit that there is a need to do an x-ray of all those who have held office in this Nigeria to look at how they have acquired their properties and their children and families, that is the only way we can be seen to be fighting corruption.</p> <p>“Any public office holder in the past and present who have properties abroad and their children and their wives. It is not out of place for this bill to be all encompassing so that we can know those who have acquired properties abroad with their children.</p> <p>“Nigeria is bleeding now we must take the courage to ensure they release some of the properties they acquired.</p> <p>“I said this without any contradiction, I don’t have any property abroad neither my children. Anybody that has acquired properties who has held public office before should give account.”</p> <p>Earlier, sponsor of the bill, Senator Umar, Sadiq Suleiman explained that the legislation seeks to repeal the extant Act and enact the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2021 to provide a more comprehensive legal and institutional framework for the prevention and prohibition of money laundering in Nigeria.</p> <p>He said the bill has captured the changing patterns and manifestation of money laundering as an offense, which includes investment or funds transfer made or obtained fraudulently into legitimate businesses to make the illicit funds difficult to trace.</p> <p>After contributions by other Senators, the bill scaled second reading.</p>

Nine others sustained injuries, among them were eight males and one female; the only person that escaped unhurt is a female,’’ Abdullahi said.</p> <p>Abdullahi said that the injured persons were taken to Toro General Hospital for treatment.</p> <p>“The remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the same hospital for identification,” he added.</p> <p>The sector commander advised motorists to always be conscious of road traffic rules and regulations as well as weather conditions at all times.</p> <p>Abdullahi also urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys.</p>

A. Daramola that the defendant committed the alleged offences in October, 2020 at Atinuke Oyawaye Street, Dada Estate, Osogbo.</p> <p>Fagboyinbo also explained that the defendant had allegedly defrauded the plaintiff of the sum of N2.5 million with the pretence of paying back the said sum which he failed to do.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The plaintiff, the prosecution revealed allegedly issued a dishonoured Access Bank cheque to Popoola on October 15, 2020 which was payable on October 15, 2021.</p> <p>The offences, the prosecution explained were contrary to and punishable under Section 421 and 428 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.</p> <p>The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.</p> <p>Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Daramola granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the like sum.</p> <p>The case was also adjourned to January 18, 2022.</p> <p>Speaking with journalists after the hearing, the plaintiff, Popoola accused the defendant, Saheed of abusing his goodwill and open mindedness.</p> <p>He explained that he did not know the defendant from anywhere prior to the time he defrauded him of N2.5 million.</p>

There has to be an approach and then a counter consideration.”</p> <p>Malami added that no approach in that respect is on the table for consideration yet, but it is something the government may take a shot at when it gets to that stage.</p> <p>“So no approach in that respect is on table for consideration yet. So we’ll cross the bridge when eventually we get to that; when perhaps a type of request is made, we’ll consider,” he said.</p> <p>While the federal government has been involved in legal battle with Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria, it is battling to extradite Igboho from Benin Republic to face criminal charges.</p> <p>Both Kanu and Igboho have been in the forefront of agitations for breakaway from Nigeria.</p> <p>The government in fresh charges filed against Kanu last month at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court had linked him with the wanton destruction of lives and properties as well as attacks on security operatives and government infrastructure in the south east of Nigeria.</p> <p>However, some leaders from the two geopolitical zones have been urging for a political solution to the crisis.</p> <p>On the issue of the payment of fees to contractors who allegedly helped the 36 states government to recover excess deductions from the account during the payment of the Paris Club loans, Malami berated the governors for “aprobating and reprobating at the same time”.</p> <p>He explained that the governors cannot come to deny a liability in 2021 having consented to it and made several payments.</p> <p>While arguing that the federal government is obligated to obey orders of courts and carry out executions of court judgment, he claimed that the governors’ current litigation over the payment of consultancy services fees was belated.</p> <p>“I have told you earlier that the judgment in contention was a 2013 judgment and it was a consent judgment in which ALGON and governors forum consented to a judgment.</p> <p>“So what judgment are you talking about in 2021 against the background of the fact that they consented to the judgment in 2013, against the background of the fact they have been effecting payment as far back as 2013, against the background of the fact that they have written in there right, under their respective hands, committing to the payment of this consultancy fee we are talking about.</p> <p>“So I think it is logical for all to see that they were indeed, submissive and they were indeed in agreement, and they have indeed conceded and consented to a judgment that created the liability they are now complaining about.</p> <p>“They have probated at a point in 2013 by way of submitting to judgment and then effecting payment over time. And in fact, among the claims relating to Paris Club that has been presented before the federal government over time is a component relating to consultancy fees.</p> <p>“So what they are doing is as good as aprobating are reprobating at the same time conceding in 2013, and objecting in 2021”.</p> <p>He denied any relationship with the contractors or having any personal interest safe his duty to protect the federal government from unnecessary liabilities.</p> <p>According to him since the federal government was made a party to the suit, there is the possibility that the assets of the federal government can be seized to pay the debt.</p> <p>“So as far as the payment is concerned, the office of the Attorney General is not in any way involved.</p> <p>But the fact remains judgments are meant to be enforced and then you are not expected to be speculative as far as the enforcements are concerned.</p> <p>“When in the case of P&ID an award was made against Nigeria, what we did was to approach the court of law for the purpose of setting aside the enforcement proceedings.</p> <p>It was only when the proceedings were set aside that we now have respite in terms of ensuring that no asset of the federal government is attached.</p> <p>“So the fact that they are in court, belatedly, again against the background that they have three months within which to appeal against the 2013 judgment which they kept sleeping from 2013 until 2021 makes it illogical that they expect the federal government or perhaps any institution of government faced with a judgment and order of the court to await their belated approach to court, which is indeed a forum shopping”.</p> <p>He also clarified that following complaints from the governors at a time the administration had involved the EFCC and DSS to authenticate the project; as well as what was done and how much.</p> <p>According to Malami, the total judgment debt was put at about $3.2 billion, out of which the governors did not only agree to pay but actually have been making payments until recently.</p>

I also congratulate Ndi Anambra for having spoken with one voice, which we must respect, in favour of Soludo and APGA for our governorship.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“It is no surprise:Anambra has consistently voted APGA for the leadership of the state, even as it has voted more independently for national elective offices.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“ I am hopeful that Soludo will work hard and productively for our dear state, and I warmly wish him a successful tenure in office.”</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Similarly, Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education has congratulated Anambra indigenes and Soludo.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>She wrote on Twitter, “I am enormously elated at the political outcome in my State, Anambra.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>“Congratulations to @CCSoludo and Ndi Anambra! It will go on until the site is cleared and no body is left in the rubble of the collapsed 21-storey edifice,” he said.</p> <p>Meanwhile, as at Monday, the death toll had risen to 43. The 15 injured persons who were rescued are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Falomo.</p>

May God continue to grant their soul eternal rest.</p> <p>“The election itself tested the integrity of our federal institutions. Many times there were tensions, especially as one party boasted that it must take or ‘conquer’ but the judiciary stood for the integrity of the judiciary”.</p>

Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party polled 21,261 votes came fourth.</p> <p>NE recalls that voting was extended to Tuesday to allowing voting take place in Ihiala LGA, which was the only local government left.</p> <p>While APGA gathered 8,283 votes, PDP came second with 2,485 votes, while APC got 343 votes.</p> <h2 style="text-align: left;"><b>Breakdown</b></h2> <p>He won in 19 local government areas of the state and scored 25% in all the 21 local government areas of the state.</p> <p>His closest rival, Mr. Val Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came second with 53,807 votes, while the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, came third with 43,285.</p> <p>Anambra has a total of 2,466,638 registered voters, while 253,388 were accredited for the election.</p> <p>The supplementary election held in Ihiala local government area on Tuesday was also won by Soludo who polled 8,283 votes, while Ozigbo polled 2,485 votes.</p> <p>Senator Andy Uba of APC scored 343 votes in the local government.</p> <p> The collation officer for Ihiala, Dr. Jarma Anagbogu of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, who announced the result from Ihiala, said there was no election in Orsumoghu and Lilu communities because of security challenges.</p> <p>Anagbogu said: “In the process of the election, we received report that there was resistance in Orsumoghu and Lilu.</p> <p>“INEC had deployed staff to the communities, but they could not enter.”</p>
