<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHAyWU2YDejPHoAtFDn8zanmrbVrSo-SLYUWarXZCh6K-aBIRTHWF9VMJ0mtD-gsS_u_Sd-WyMaBV9pWNKyk_RR2PkSRUDu9ugbjJQPNDrwGaQgHJ-qoyHGiAlB9zsPZF4-ewTqf9D1U0/s1600/Abdulmumin+Jibrin.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHAyWU2YDejPHoAtFDn8zanmrbVrSo-SLYUWarXZCh6K-aBIRTHWF9VMJ0mtD-gsS_u_Sd-WyMaBV9pWNKyk_RR2PkSRUDu9ugbjJQPNDrwGaQgHJ-qoyHGiAlB9zsPZF4-ewTqf9D1U0/s320/Abdulmumin+Jibrin.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> The quest by the embattled lawmaker, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, to return to the House of Representatives after being suspended by his colleagues for going against the rules of the parliament has suffered a great set back as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned a suit instituted by him to push for his return indefinitely.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The suit filed by Hon Jibrin to challenge his suspension from the House of Representatives was rejected by the Federal High Court due to the existence of an appeal on the same matter which is pending at the Supreme Court.<br /> <br /> Counsel to Hon Jibrin, Chief Femi Falana, SAN, had argued that the High Court should disregard the appeal pending at the Supreme Court over the issue of joinder of some members of the House to the action.<br /> <br /> However, counsel to the House of Representatives drew the attention of the court to the pendency of the appeal before the Supreme Court and urged the Court not to proceed with the case as according to him, Chief Falana was trying to set the lower court in collusion with the apex court of the land.<br /> In his ruling, Justice John Tsoho said that however the manner the information about the appeal before the Supreme Court gets to him, he will not continue with the case until the matter is dispensed with by the apex court.<br /> <br /> It would be recalled that Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin had, in 2017, commenced Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/812/2016 to challenge his suspension from the House.<br /> <br /> Similarly, some individuals who identified themselves as his constituents also commenced separate action with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/796/ 2016 seeking nullification of his suspension.<br /> When both matters came up on the 10th of January this year, the Federal High Court maintained that in the case of the suit filed by Hon Jibrin, it would respect the Supreme Court and await its decision on the joinder to the suit of Hon Ossai Nicholas Ossai and Hon Orker–Jev Emmanuel Yisa, who said their characters were impugned by accusations made by Hon Jibrin.<br /> On the related suit filed by three members of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, the court struck out the suit for lacking in substance and want of diligent prosecution.</div>

Olatoregun of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, had, on April 26, 2017, granted an order of interim forfeiture of the sum $5,842,316.66 traced to Jonathan’s account number 211001712 domiciled with Skye Bank Plc on the grounds that the money was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.<br /> <br /> The judge also granted an order of interim forfeiture of the sum of N2,421,953,522.78 kept by Jonathan in an account number 202200760 domiciled with Eco Bank Plc in the name of La Wari Furniture and Baths Limited.<br /> <br /> However, the former First Lady, through her team of lawyers led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and I. A. Adedipe (SAN), approached the appellate court to set aside the order of the lower court.<br /> <br /> Jonathan’s lawyers also urged the Court of Appeal to declare as unconstitutional, the provisions of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006.<br /> <br /> However, the Appeal Court, presided over by Justice Mojeed A. Owoade, upheld both the constitutionality of Section 17 and the order of the interim forfeiture of the various sums of money belonging to Jonathan.<br /> <br /> The court made the order following an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<br /> <br /> An operative of the commission, Musbahu Abubakar, who deposed to the affidavit, had told the court that the former First Lady opened the Skye Bank account on February 7, 2013.<br /> <br /> Abubakar had also told Justice Olatoregun that the former First Lady made several United States Dollars cash deposits into the account through Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, a former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, and a State House steward, Festus Iyoha.</div>

Two of us were outside and Tosin went inside. We found only N7,200 inside the car.<br /> <br /> “I did not know that this Mama’s mouth was glued because I waited outside. We have not sold the car. Tosin said he wants to use the car but we told him there is no way we can stay with him in Osun State. I couldn’t stay in his father’s house without doing anything. The car is still in Osun State.”<br /> <br /> Police Commissioner, Babatunde Kokumo, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

The rule is that whenever you arrive, you are expected to release your tags to the Checkport staff for confirmation and verification, but rather than comply with the simple rule, one of his aides insisted he won’t allow them to check the tags.<br /> <br /> “But, unfortunately, this aide refused to be checked and rather than obey the simple civil aviation rule, he resorted to attacks on everybody. The Plateau government is aware of this,” he declared.<br /> <br /> According to him, Lalong was speaking for himself when he promised to establish the cattle colonies.<br /> <br /> “As far as the people of my senatorial zone are concerned, Lalong spoke for himself and not for us.<br /> <br /> “We have already suffered too much loss in the hands of attackers believed to be herdsmen; creating colonies for them will only worsen the situation,” he said.<br /> <br /> He dismissed claims by the governor that people were already donating lands for the purpose of grazing and cattle colonies.<br /> <br /> “If the Governor claims that people are already donating lands for the purpose of grazing reserves or<br /> cattle colonies, let him name the donors.<br /> <br /> “The Plateau people are peaceful and have always rejected any policy that could undermine that peace.<br /> <br /> “My constituents’ position is clear – Lalong is on his own and alone in this path that he has chosen,” Jang said.<br /> <br /> Jang, however, advised Lalong to apologise to Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue over a statement credited to him (Lalong) in which he claimed to have warned his Benue counterpart against the anti-open grazing law.<br /> <br /> “That statement was particularly unfair to the people of Benue, coming at a time they were mourning scores killed in the Jan. 1 attacks on villages in Guma and Logo Governments.<br /> <br /> “The statement suggests that the killings took place because of the law. This cannot be true because the killings have been on for years while the law only took effect on Nov. 1,” the statement said.<br /> <br /> Jang urged the federal and state governments to organise a meeting of stakeholders to seek a lasting solution to the incessant herdsmen/farmers clashes, and stressed the need for policies that would be fair and acceptable to all concerned. The civil suit cannot be used to stop criminal prosecution already initiated.<br /> <br /> “That the plaintiff’s suit as constituted is incompetent and that this honourable court lacks jurisdiction to hear and determine the plaintiff’s suit.”<br /> <br /> Thomas Etah of the Federal Ministry of Justice, who deposed to the AGF’s counter-affidavit, stated that Adoke’s suit did not disclose any dispute between the former AGF and his successor, since it was the EFCC that investigated the case and found it worthy to institute the charges.<br /> <br /> Malami described Adoke’s suit as an abuse of court process, as he insisted that contrary to the former AGF’s claim in the suit, the charges initiated against him by the EFCC had nothing to do with the “actions authorised by the President.”<br /> <br /> Adoke had maintained in his originating summons that his involvement in the Malabu Oil deal as a serving minister was based on the presidential directive of former President Goodluck Jonathan.<br /> <br /> In the suit filed on his legal team led by another former AGF, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN),  Adoke asked the court to determine whether by virtue of sections 5(1), 147(1), 148(1) and 150(1) of the 1999 Constitution a serving minister of the country could perform the “executive power of federation vested on the President as directed by the President.”<br /> <br /> He urged the court to declare that his involvement in the negotiation between the Nigerian government and Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, Shell, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and Agip in the matter of OPL 245 was in “furtherance of the lawful directive/approval of the president in the exercise of his powers.”<br /> <br /> The former AGF also asked the court to declare that any correspondence he had with J.P Morgan and any other entity and ancillary actions and processes taken in respect to the Malabu Oil deal was in obedience to the lawful directive of the President in the exercise of his executive power.<br /> <br /> He also asked the court to declare that his prosecution by the EFCC in respect of Malabu deal on the account of carrying out the president’s directive was illegal, null and void and in breach of Section 5 (1) of the Constitution.<br /> <br /> He also urged the court to declare that he could be held liable for carrying out lawful directive/approval of the president while he served as a minister.<br /> <br /> The case, which is now before Justie Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has been scheduled to come up on February 1.</div>

But, “the enquiry of the personnel did not go down well with one of the aides of Davido, who refused to tender the tags and resorted to abusive words against the staff.”<br /> <br /> After few minutes of exchange of words, the aide, allegedly punched the Checkpoint staff in the face while another Customs personnel close to the scene of the incident did not escape his vicious attacks.<br /> <br /> The attacks on personnel led to the reinforcement of security personnel who bundled the aid to Tango City within the terminal. Tango City is the place where unruly passengers and touts within the airport are taken to by security agencies.<br /> <br /> “However, at the Tango City, rather than behave well, the aide continued his attack on two AVSEC personnel, one of them was a female lady who was writing down the report and another Customs official he attacked and cut his wrist in the process”, the airport security officials said.<br /> <br /> “ It was at this point that the attention of Davido who was already outside the terminal awaiting the collection of his luggage from his aide was called to the terminal incident”.<br /> <br /> It was gathered that when Daivo arrived the scene, he attempted to ensure the release of the aide, which was rebuffed by the security agencies and insisted on taking the detained aide to Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Panti in Lagos.<br /> <br /> As at Friday, the 17 seized pieces of luggage of Davido were still at the airport while efforts were being made to transfer the unruly aide to CID, Panti.<br /> <br /> The source close to the scene of the incident said: “Davido had arrived Lagos Airport as usual with about 17 pieces of luggage in all. The rule is that whenever you arrive, you are expected to release your tags to the Checkport staff for confirmation and verification, but rather than comply with the simple rule, one of his aides insisted he won’t allow them to check the tags.<br /> <br /> “But, unfortunately, this aide refused to be checked and rather than obey the simple civil aviation rule, he resorted to attacking everybody. He attacked everybody around. No fewer than four officials were beaten by the aide in question with at least two of them soaked in blood.”<br /> <br /> However, as at the time of filing this report, FAAN is yet to comment on the incident.</div>

Ogisi said the punishment for the offence the accused committed was mandatory and does not have the discretionary power to mitigate the death sentence.<br /> <br /> The trial Judge who sentenced the first and second accused persons on all four count charge, however discharged the 3rd accused person on count 2 and 4 but was sentenced on count 1 and 3.<br /> <br /> Ogisi, held that the court agreed with the submission of prosecution counsel, Pollen-Ezeana-Ejiofor Esq in his submissions that urged the court to accordingly convict the defendants as it proved its case against the defendants beyond all reasonable doubt.<br /> <br /> He said: “I am persuaded that the 3rd accused person conspired with the 1st and 2nd but I am also persuaded that the 3rd accused person did not take part in the murder of Felix Boise on the 9th of June, 2014”<br /> <br /> The Prosecution from the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Pellen-Joseph Ejaifo through prosecuting witnesses had told the Court that Pa Felix Biose was attacked by woods and other offensive weapons while his lifeless body was thrown into a deep dry well.<br /> <br /> The court gathered that two of the defendants who participated actively in the crime, used logs of woods and cement blocks to cover up the lifeless body inside the well and made away with his Kia Rio salon car to Nassarawa State where they were later arrested in their attempt to sell off the deceased car.</div>

I was not even in Kaduna.<br /> <br /> “For me, the right to protest is guaranteed in the constitution, provided you don’t go violent and you don’t violate any laws.<br /> <br /> “I think the concerns of the police is because of the precarious situation in the country particularly in Kaduna which made it unsuitable to have such protest.<br /> <br /> “The last time they did such a thing, they attacked the State House of Assembly, a legislator for which they have filed criminal charges.<br /> <br /> “So this is the concern, the concern is for possible break down of law and order and not protest or strike. They are free to do so but it will not change our position.<br /> <br /> “There is nothing to step back on. It is a well thought out position. We took one and half years before we made the decision and we will not change it.”<br /> <br /> El-Rufai said the state government had announced the severance package of the sacked teachers in line with the public service rule.<br /> <br /> He disclosed that the government would pay three months severance and had provided incentives for those that are retiring.<br /> <br /> He added that the government had made land available for those that are interested in farming while it will support those who want to go into trade with loans.<br /> <br /> He insisted that the affected persons are suitable as teachers but the government will support them to do other things.</div>

Most of them would not ordinarily need to be responded to,” Dr. Ogedegbe said in the a statement.<br /> <br /> He also said that, “Suffice to say that there was only one person involved in this incident. No one else required treatment for this incident or its aftermath. Yusuf’s friend was not involved in the accident and did not sustain any injuries whatsoever.<br /> <br /> “Her Excellency was not at any time treated for shock and she was not admitted into Cedarcrest at any time.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, announcing the “cheering news” that Buhari’s son would soon be discharged, Mr. Adesina quoted Ogedegbe as saying that Yusuf Buhari underwent successful emergency surgical operations carried out by a team of neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons.<br /> <br /> The statement by the hospital further reads thus: “Mr Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of His Excellency President Buhari, was admitted into Cedarcrest Hospitals Abuja in the late hours of the Dec. 26, 2017, following injuries sustained as a rider of a motorcycle.<br /> <br /> “Following initial stabilization, he was taken into intensive care. We just paid full salary and the full salary was not paid from the allocation from the Federal Government.<br /> <br /> “We therefore must work hard to generate more revenue for the state.<br /> <br /> “It will be a cheat if you workers are paying your taxes as being deducted at source and you do not tell your neighbours who are operating hospitals or private schools to pay.<br /> <br /> “I want to appeal to you to go out and work so that the government will be able to continue paying the salaries as at when due.<br /> <br /> “Sustainability of the business of the government should be our target.<br /> <br /> “It is my wish that we all work together to enable the government function well,’’ he said.<br /> <br /> Oyebamiji said what government was getting from the federal allocation was no longer enough to pay salaries, saying workers must assist government in generating enough revenue.<br /> <br /></div>

He underwent successful emergency surgical operations the following morning, carried out by our team of neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons.<br /> <br /> “Over the following week, his condition improved remarkably and he was transferred from intensive care to the ward. He has remained stable ever since and has continued to make remarkable progress. He is now ready to be discharged.<br /> <br /> “His extremely speedy response to treatment so far is testimony to the world-class early care he has received here in Cedarcrest, Abuja.<br /> <br /> “We are grateful to His Excellency, President Buhari; and Her Excellency, the First Lady Mrs. Aisha Buhari, for the confidence in us and for allowing us to look after Yusuf.<br /> <br /> “This show of confidence goes a long way to strengthen our collective belief in our resolve to offer world-class health care, locally. We are extremely grateful to our entire hospital team for their dedication and hard work during this period.<br /> <br /> “We are also grateful to the Honorable Minister of Health, the Honorable Minister of State for Health, and the eminent advisory team of specialists assembled by the Honourable Minister of Health who supported us in the course of looking after Yusuf.<br /> <br /> “We are grateful to all Nigerians who prayed for Yusuf, his family and his carers. His response to treatment so far is clear testimony to answered prayers.<br /> <br /> “We did note some very misleading reports about this incident making the rounds in some social media outlets. Most of them would not ordinarily need to be responded to. Suffice to say that there was only one person involved in this incident. No one else required treatment for this incident or its aftermath.<br /> <br /> “Yusuf’s friend was not involved in the accident and did not sustain any injuries whatsoever.<br /> <br /> “Her Excellency, the First Lady, was not at any time treated for shock and she was not admitted into Cedarcrest at any time.<br /> <br /> “In addition, Cedarcrest Hospitals has remained open to other in-patients and out-patients and at no time were any patients denied access to the hospital.”</div>
