Twenty-five people were shot and three others injured in an early morning nightclub shooting in the southern US state of Arkansas, police said Saturday.<br />

Police in the city of Little Rock had initially said that 17 people were shot when gunfire rang out inside the downtown Power Ultra Lounge nightclub around 2:30 am (0730 GMT).<br />
<br />
They updated the toll later Saturday to 25 shot and three with unrelated injuries, adding on Twitter that “ALL are expected to survive.”<br />
“We do NOT believe this incident was an active shooter or terror related incident,” police said. “It appears to have been a dispute at a concert.”<br />
<br />
Authorities did not immediately release any names or information on a suspect or suspects.<br />
<br />
“Little Rock’s crime problem appears to be intensifying,” Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said in a statement, decrying “this senseless violent tragedy.”<br />
<br />
He promised state resources to help “support local law enforcement efforts.”<br />
<br />
Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola thanked first responders and hospitals on Facebook.<br />
<br />
“My heart is broken this morning — my prayers are with the victims of this tragedy,” he said.<br />
<br />
According to the nightclub website, an artist by the name of Finese 2 Tymes was scheduled to perform.<br />

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed, before a Lagos Division of the Lagos State High Court, charges of unlawful enrichment to the tune of N3.5 million against James Agbadu-Fishim, a judge of the National Industrial Court.<br />

According to the charge sheet, the EFCC alleged that Mr. Agbadu-Fishim received the funds from seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria, a Lagos-based lawyer, and a law firm between 2013 and 2015.<br />
<br />
The money, the EFCC claimed in the charge sheet, was paid into the judge’s First Bank account with number 3008199491.<br />
<br />
The judge, according to the EFCC, allegedly received a total of N1.15 million from Felix Fagbohungbe between December 5, 2013, and February 26, 2015.<br />
<br />
He also allegedly received a total of N700,000 in multiple tranches from Paul Usoro (SAN) between August 5, 2014, and March 26, 2015.<br />
Other senior advocates who allegedly paid money into the judge’s bank account include Adetola-Kazeem, who gave him N100,000 on February 10, 2015; and Uche Obi, who gave him N250,000 between October 17 and 20, 2013.<br />
<br />
The rest include Muiz Banire, who according to the EFCC, gave the judge N500,000 on June 20, 2013; and Adeniyi Akintola, who gave him N300,000 in two tranches of N200,000 and N100,000 on June 3, 2013, and February 26, 2015, respectively.<br />
<br />
The EFCC further claimed that the judge received a total of N250,000 from Joseph Nwobike (SAN), in tranches of N150,000 and N100,000 on December 12, 2014, and September 10, 2015, respectively; while a Lagos-based lawyer, Enobong Etteh, was said to have transferred N200,000 to the judge on October 27, 2014.<br />

A law firm, Alliance Law Firm, according to the EFCC, also paid N250,000 into the judge’s account on August 21, 2015.<br />
The anti-graft agency alleged that Justice Fishim received the money “so as to have a significant increase in your assets that you cannot reasonably explain the increase in relation to your lawful income.”<br />

It alleged that the judge acted contrary to Section 82 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, No.11, 2011.<br />
A date is yet to be fixed for the hearing of the case.<br />
<br />
When they were invited by the Commission for questioning, last year, some of the lawyers accused of giving money to the judges maintained it was not a bribe.<br />
<br />
For instance, Mr. Banire, announced at the time he would be stepping down as the national legal adviser of the All Progressives Congress pending conclusion of investigation, said the N500,000 he gave the judge was meant for his mother’s funeral.<br />
<br />
Also, Mr. Akinola had told newsmen last year that Mr. Agbadum-Fishim had been his friend for more than 25 years.<br />
“I gave him N100,000 twice when he lost his parents as financial assistance,” the lawyer had said.<br />
“I did not even attend the events. He has also given me money twice: N50,000 (when I lost my mother in 2014) and another N25,000 when my daughter wedded. He attended the two events. It was a kind of exchange of gifts. I knew him when he was in the University of Abuja.”

Two students of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) drowned on Saturday evening while reportedly taking selfie pictures on a canoe inside a river in the town.<br />

The two students whose names were were both 300 level students of the university.<br />
<br />
One was said to be a student of the department of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering, while the other was a student of the department of Project Management Technology.<br />
<br />
The President, Students Union Government of the university, Adeyinka Olasehinde who confirmed the incident, said the death of the two students had thrown the university into mourning.<br />
<br />
Olasehinde explained that four students went to a river close to the university and took pictures on a canoe stationed at the river.<br />
<br />
He added that the canoe capsized while the students were taking the pictures.<br />
<br />
Olasehinde hinted that two of the students narrowly escaped death because they knew how to swim, while two others were unfortunate.<br />
<br />
He said the students who lost their lives were at the venue of their<br />
entrepreneuship training at the laboratory of the department of<br />
fishery and aquaculture behinde great hall in Obakekere area of Akure.<br />
<br />
He said the ugly incident occurred after the students had finished their training for the day

The immediate past Nigeria’s Vice President, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo has expressed fear that the nation’s security agencies may plant incriminating objects in his house to implicate him of corruption.<br />

The former Vice President who reacted to the repeated raids on his Kaduna residence by the anti-graft agencies said he is apprehensive that a repeat of Commando-style raid of his residence will not be surprising if an incriminating object is planted in order to willfully and deliberately incriminate him.<br />
<br />
Sambo in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Umar Sani, lamented that the recent desperation exhibited by some security agencies in carrying out a raid on an unoccupied residence and blocking all entry and exit points, in a ‘commando-style’ and coming along with a bullion van speak volumes of the ‘clandestine’ intention of the security operatives.<br />
<br />
According to the statement, “In the late afternoon of Wednesday, the 28th of June 2017, the Alimi Road, Kaduna un-occupied residence of the former Vice President Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, was invaded by security operatives armed with a search warrant, who conducted a forensic search of the entire residence.<br />
<br />
“Initially, we were at a loss as to their identity but later discovered that they were operatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC). This raid brings to five the number of times the residence was searched within a period of six months and on each occasion valuable fittings were deliberately destroyed.<br />
<br />
“It is worthy of note to state that no such brazen attempts were made at any point, either at his Link Road Kaduna residence, or his Abuja apartment, which he presently occupy.<br />
<br />
“As the visit of the operatives was unscheduled, the reasons for the search were not specifically stated. However, the outcome of the search was made known. At the end of the whole exercise, the officers, who carried out the search were satisfied that nothing incriminating was found.<br />
<br />
“As a law-abiding citizen, the former Vice-President did not raise any alarm in the previous invasions in view of the fact that he has nothing to hide.<br />
<br />
“The recent desperation exhibited by some security agencies in carrying out a raid on an unoccupied residence blocking all entry and exit points, in a commando-style and coming along with a bullion van speaks volumes of the clandestine intention of the security operatives.<br />
<br />
“It is therefore worrisome to note that the consistency with which the searches occurred and the intervals between them portrays a desire of a fault-finding mission. We are apprehensive that a repeat of such episode will not be surprising if an incriminating object is planted in his residence in order to willfully and deliberately incriminate him.<br />
<br />
“It is against this background that we wish to draw the attention of the unsuspecting members of the public to this phenomenon. The desperation of some of the security agencies is glaring by the number of times such searches were conducted and still counting. We hope it is not a way to try to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it,” Sambo said.

“Because you cannot come to Imo State now and say you want to abolish free education from primary to university, they will not accept. I have spoilt Imo people believe me. You cannot come to Imo State and say you want to give them a single lane road when they are now used to eight lane road in the city, they won’t accept it.<br />

“You cannot come there and tell the children to go to schools that the floors are not tiled they will not accept because all the schools have been rebuilt. I have rebuilt 450 schools. You can no longer take them to those ramshackle hospitals, those shanties they called hospitals because I have built ultramodern 27 to 200 bed general hospitals. You can no longer tell them those stories. All the infrastructures are there.<br />
<br />
“You cannot tell them that there are criminal activities any more and that your hands are tied they will not accept it because we know where we brought Imo from, from unsafe place to a safe place right now. And you can no longer tell our workers to dress shabbily they will not, they will want to dress in their suits and tie and white shirts. So Imo has changed believe me.<br />
<br />
“I stand to be challenged and corrected by anybody that what we have done in Imo State in this six years can be comparable to what any governor in that state living or dead has done. And whether if we put all of them together can match what we have done. Have you seen me sounding boisterous? That is the truth. But the point is I don’t make media noise, I don’t make foundation laying stones Programme, I don’t bring women to dance because I want to lay foundation project.<br />
<br />
“I don’t commission projects because for me it doesn’t make sense. They say that is the only way to get the media to know what we are doing but to me it doesn’t make sense. What is the most important is that people are benefiting and people are happy.”<br />

He stressed that there is no area in human existence that his administration has not touched.<br />
<br />
“I can only give credit to God almighty. There is just no area we have not touched and Owerri is now the fastest growing city outside Lagos and Abuja and I stand proud to say so. Ease of doing business is at the highest level. So is not major is just passion and vision at play,” he stated.

“Zinc accelerates the renewal of skin cells,” said Dr. Whitney Bowe, clinical assistant professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “That’s why you find the nutrient in many acne medications.”<br />

In fact, research shows that people with acne have lower levels of zinc than people with clear skin.<br />

<b>Kale</b><br />

Caballero arrives having been out of contract at Manchester City. He will add strength to our goalkeeper resources following the departure of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth.<br />

The 35-year-old has a wealth of experience at the highest level. He spent the past three seasons at City, having started his career at Boca Juniors in his native Argentina before playing for Spanish clubs Elche and Malaga.<br />

Caballero said: ‘I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season.’<br />

Michael Emenalo added: ‘We are very happy to have Willy on board. He knows the Premier League and is tried and tested at the top of the game.<br />

‘We have three experienced goalkeepers and we look forward to welcoming him to the club when the squad returns to pre-season training.’<br />

Caballero moved to the Premier League in the summer of 2014, linking up once again with Manuel Pellegrini, whom he had played under at Malaga.<br />

The highlight of his time at City was the 2016 League Cup final when his heroics during the decisive penalty shoot-out against Liverpool ensured City secured the trophy. Caballero saved three penalties – from Lucas, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana – as his team came out on top at Wembley.<br />

Last season he featured in a memorable 3-1 Champions League win over Barcelona and made a crucial penalty save from former Chelsea striker Falcao in the first leg of their last-16 knockout tie against Monaco.<br />

The Argentine featured regularly towards the end of the campaign, including in City’s 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge. On that night he saved an Eden Hazard penalty, only for the Belgian to tap home the rebound for what proved to be the winning goal.</div>

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said on Saturday that there would be no rescheduling of examination for candidates who reported late for the mop-up examination.<br />

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this while reacting to complaints by candidates sitting for the mop-up examination at the board’s Computer-Based Centre (CBT) in Bwari, FCT.<br />
<br />
Oloyede, who led some staff members on the supervision of the exercise, said the exam was a supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) being conducted in 170 centres across the country.<br />
<br />
He said 85, 000 candidates slated for the mop-up exam were notified through text messages and warned those who came late that the board would not reschedule the exam.<br />
<br />
“There is nothing you can do … we placed adverts in newspapers, sent e-mails and text messages and if you did not get it, it means that you were not invited for the exam.<br />
<br />
“A bulk Short Message Service (SMS) was equally sent to your telephone numbers that you provided during the registration.<br />
<br />
“We will not reschedule the exam for people who came late,” Oloyede said.<br />
<br />
On complaints about system failure, Oloyede explained that the computers had been programmed to work under a specific time frame and urged candidates to engage the computers regularly to avoid disruption.<br />
<br />
According to him, if a candidate sits down in the exam hall doing nothing, the computer is likely to shut down because there is a time frame for its usage.<br />
<br />
“If you do not use it, it will go off. When you sit and you are not doing anything within that time frame, we also monitor from our system to ensure you that candidates are not cheating,”<br />
<br />
NAN reports that the 85, 000 candidates of the 1.7 million enrolled for the 2017 UTME had registered late for the exam and also had some challenges with the exam.<br />

“We are very much aware that all the attacks against President Muhammadu Buhari were planted in the media by the Yoruba and spread by southerners generally just to discredit the north in order to pave way for their son, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to become President.<br />

But their plans will fail insha Allah. We shall resist every of such plans and ensure by all means possible, that the north completes its eight-year tenure and possibly even continue after then, and that the federal structure of Nigeria as it currently is, is not tampered with by secession mongers and their collaborators.<br />
<br />
Having given power to the Yoruba on a platter of gold in 1999 as a way of compensating them for the June 12 saga, it is quite worrisome and unfortunate that they have lived up to their legendary reputation of backstabbing and betrayal by supporting the divisive calls for restructuring or dismemberment of the nation against the will and desire of the north.<br />

We gave the late Chief MKO Abiola the mandate in 1993 but shortly after that, as it is with the Yoruba as a culture, they immediately started circling around Abiola plotting on how to emasculate the north and strip us of every access we had to the politics and economy of this nation.<br />

They had also raised a secret army of their elites to carry out these sinister plans against the north if Abiola eventually became President. It was this army that was unleashed on the nation in the guise of NADECO during the June 12 impasse.<br />

May we remind the Yoruba that without the willingness and magnanimity of the north, there was no way Abiola could have purportedly won that election, and that all the Yoruba have now as assets in the south west, especially Lagos, were given to them by our leaders out of our own usual magnanimity.<br />
<br />
However, time and time again, the Yoruba have always turned their back on us whenever their support is needed. They have chosen to pitch tent with the Igbo this time around just to spite us, but we shall not succumb to their antics”.<br />
<br />
Their words are laced with hate, fuelled by ignorance, filled with contempt, propelled by hubristic pride and garnished with the arrogance of Atilla the Hun: indeed they have spoken like the true almajiris that they are.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile let us look at the facts.<br />
<br />
12 million children are out of school in Nigeria. Out of the 12 million, 10 million are from the north whilst Kano state alone has 3 million beggars.<br />
<br />
Nigeria has the highest number of young girls suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in the world. And 90 per cent of those young girls are from the north.<br />
<br />
According to the UNDP 72 per cent of northern Nigerians are living below the poverty line.<br />
<br />
According to UNICEF if Nigeria were to ever break up the core north would be the poorest and most barren place on the African continent.<br />
<br />
According to Nasir El Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna state in northern Nigeria, if the north-western zone of the country were to ever find itself on its own it would be poorer and more ravaged by war than Afghanistan.<br />
<br />
According to the World Terror Index Boko Haram and the Fulani militias are the first and fourth “most deadly terrorist organisations in the world” respectively and they both come from northern Nigeria.<br />
<br />
According to UNESCO 65 million Nigerians, which represents 50 per cent of the total population!) are stark illiterates and 55 million of them are from the north.<br />
<br />
According to UNICEF the heartland and base of pedophiia, child sex, child slavery and child marriage on the African continent is northern Nigeria.<br />
<br />
According to President Donald Trump of the United States of America “northern Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places for Christians to live in the world” and “Christians are murdered there in their thousands every year whilst Churches are blown up and burnt down”.<br />
<br />
According to CNN “the bastion of radical Islam, Islamic terror and Islamic fundamentalism in Africa is northern Nigeria”.<br />
<br />
According to Governor Yari of Zamfara state in north western Nigeria the north has been afflicted with all manner of diseases and epidemics, including meningitis, as a consequence of their many sins against Allah.<br />
<br />
According to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo the northern states “have the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the country, the lowest rate of child enrolment in schools, the highest number of unemployed young people, the highest levels of poverty and faces the challenge of inter-ethic and inter-religious conflict including the Boko Haram terrorism.”<br />
<br />
All these daunting challenges, disturbing facts and alarming statistics and instead of putting their house in order the Arewa Youth Coalition not only threaten the Igbo with mass murder and genocide and order them to leave the north by October 1st but they have also gone a step further by insulting the Yoruba and accused us of being “serial traitors” and of “trying to impose Osinbajo on Nigeria as President”.<br />
<br />
This is the same Osinbajo that has bent over backwards to appease them, that has taken all their insults and provocations and that has resolved to accept the fact that he is more a co-ordinator of government affairs than an Acting President.<br />
<br />
I really do wonder what these young northerners really want?<br />
<br />
They issue quit notices to fellow Nigerians and they are still going about freely and with AK47 and daggers stained with the blood of their innocent compatriots.<br />
<br />
They issue statements insulting their compatriots by calling them ungrateful backstabbers even after stabbing and butchering them to death .<br />
<br />
They tell the world that Yoruba Muslims are not real Muslims and that they will never allow them to lead in prayers in the mosque.<br />
<br />
I ask again what do these young northerners really want?<br />
<br />
Do they really believe that the rest of us are interested in THEIR Nigeria anymore? To many the unity of Nigeria is not sacrosanct and neither do we insist on it at the cost of our lives, our future, our self-respect and our dignity.<br />
<br />
This position has been confirmed and re-affirmed by the General Alani Akinrinade-led Yoruba Assembly, the Odua People’s Congress, the Odua Liberation Movement and Afenifere itself.<br />
<br />
We may love Nigeria but we are not prepared to sacrifice our liberty on the alter as a sacrifice to her gods and neither are we prepared to be treated like animals or a people that have no history or do not know where they are coming from. The Yoruba culture and race are irresistable and irrepressable.<br />
<br />
The influence and power of the ancient Yoruba empire and people stretches from South America, the Carribean, West Africa, various parts of western Europe and other parts of the world till today.<br />
<br />
We come from an ancient lineage of empire and tradition which is thousands of years old and which pre-dates Christianity and Islam. We are well-educated, focused and strong.<br />
<br />
We have never been conquered in battle and we have never lost a war to a foreign aggressor or usurper. We are slow to anger but irresistable in battle.<br />
<br />
We are a proud and noble race from an illustrious and royal heritage: se bow to no other. That is who and what we are.<br />
<br />
If Nigeria remaining one means that we must live as slaves and serfs whilst the north laud it over us and insult us every day then we say let her break and let us go our separate ways before we kill each other.<br />
<br />
It is only in this country that those with a blood-lust, the perverted, the depraved, the lazy, the parasitic, the barren, the poor and the dieseased insist on leading and ruling over the peace-loving, the sane, the wholesome, the righteous, the generous, the kind, the accomodating, the hard-working, the productive, the prosperous and the healthy.<br />
<br />
In view of these racist, divisive and provocative rantings and sentiments from the northern youths (which in my view have the tacit support and backing of their traditional rulers, political elite, trusted leaders and reverred elders) those of us from other parts of the country must wake up, smell the coffee, get our act together and rise up to the challenge and to the occassion.<br />
<br />
This is the time for men and women of valour and strength to step up to the plate and redeem the honor of their kith and kin. This is the time to say “enough is enough!” (TO BE CONTINUED).</div>

The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Garba Umar, on Saturday said the Indigenous People of Biafra had no capacity to stop the November 18 governorship election in Anambra.<br />

Umar who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone said IPOB had not claimed to have issued such threat apart from what was reported in the media.<br />
<br />
He said the police in the state had all it would take to ensure a peaceful election in Anambra.<br />
<br />
He said, “The election has been fixed by relevant federal government agency. Nobody can stop it. We have the capacity to provide a peaceful atmosphere in Anambra State for that election.<br />
<br />
“I have not heard from IPOB that it would stop the election, apart from what was published in the media. But that is for the media.<br />
<br />
” Nobody or group can issue such threat and succeed, because we have all it will take to subdue such threat. No group can do that. The people of the state have the right to have periodic elections to choose their leaders; nobody or groupcan stop them from exercising such right. We can’t allow it. It’s no done.<br />
<br />
“We are fully on the ground and we can suppress such threats”.<br />
<br />
Umar said the police in the state were consulting with relevant stakeholders in the state to ensure that there would peace during the poll.<br />

The Lagos State Government on Friday expressed its commitment for the actualisation of its vision of making Lagos to be among the cleanest cities in the world.<br />

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State disclosed this at a ceremony to mark the inauguration of Phase 1 of Visions-Cape Implementation in Lagos.<br />
<br />
Visions-Cape is an environmental utility group which is to take over waste management in the state under a Public/Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement tagged: the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI).<br />
<br />
He said that waste management in Lagos had become a big task due to the rising population, hence the need to introduce new operators with advanced technology to manage all types of wastes.<br />
<br />
Ambode, who was represented by Commissioner for Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, said, “we have always believed in Visions-Cape and by the grace of God, Lagos is going to be one of the cleanest cities of the world’’.<br />
<br />
The governor said that the desire to improve the sanitation in the state, in line with producing a friendlier environment for residents, had been a long desire that the inauguration of the CLI would actualise.<br />
<br />
“To carry out a reform is not easy and we did not want to leave anything to chance,’’ he said.<br />
<br />
On the litigation with Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, also known as the Private Sector Participation (PSP) Operators, he said that the contractual agreement with the operators to manage waste expired in July 2016.<br />
<br />
Ambode said that being in court should not hinder waste management, adding that the state government was ready to partner with the litigants and was working on achieving harmony with them.<br />
<br />
“This occasion is to make sure our city is not dirty. There are about 350 PSP operators and we have 25 million Lagosians. Do we want to satisfy 350 to the detriment of 25 million people?’’ he asked.<br />
<br />
The governor explained that 600 compactors were being sourced from various countries, adding that the state plans to have about 5,000 within the next five years.<br />
<br />
He said that the existing transloading stations would be transformed into organised well-structured waste recycling systems.<br />
<br />
Earlier, Mr Harry Ackerman, the Executive Director, Visions-Cape, said the company would eliminate dump sites in residential areas in the first phase of the project.<br />
<br />
Ackerman said that phase two of the project would target the total elimination of waste from households.<br />
<br />
Visions-Cape’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs Motunrayo Elias, said the organisation had the manpower and equipment to keep Lagos cleaner.<br />
<br />
She added that the project would create several jobs for residents of the state.<br />
<br />
Elias said that Visions-Cape would commence Phase 1 of the company’s implementation strategy with ‘Operation Deep Clean’ on July 1.<br />
<br />
“Visions-Cape has made provision to ensure that there would no longer be dump sites in the state.<br />
<br />
“We have trucks and tricycles to run and collect refuse in every part of Lagos even the riverrine areas, and we run a 24 hours operations,’’ Elias said.<br />
<br />
She also said that in a few weeks the company would roll out an advocacy programme to educate the public on better ways to handle wastes, especially harzadous ones.<br />
<br />
PSP operators had in January, filed a suit against the state government and five others, seeking to stop them from managing domestic wastes in the state.<br />
<br />
The PSP operators also joined the Visions-Cape Group, Visions-Cape Sanitation Solutions Ltd and ABC Sanitation Solutions Ltd in the suit.</div>

It is a key element of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), which is the umbrella term for the main AU mechanisms for promoting peace, security and stability in Africa<br />

It was established to be a collective security and ‘early warning’ arrangement with the ability to facilitate timely and efficient responses to conflict and crisis situations.<br />
<br />
The PSC’s core functions are to conduct early warning and preventive diplomacy, facilitate peace-making, establish peace-support operations and, in certain circumstances, recommend intervention in Member States to promote peace, security and stability.<br />
<br />
The PSC also works in support of peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction as well as humanitarian action and disaster management.</div>

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said there was no fire outbreak in the health ministry, but just a spark on the corridors of the third floor.<br />

He was reacting to reports carried on Channels Television which quoted an unarmed eyewitness that the building housing the Federal Ministry of Health was on fire in the early hours of Saturday.<br />
<br />
According to the report, firefighters were, however, battling at the scene trying to put out the inferno.<br />
But Adewole told our correspondent that the report was “false.”<br />
<br />
“The report is false, there was just a spark in the corridors of the third floor and it has been put off. It was just an electrical spark that has been put off. No part of the ministry has been affected. No office was affected,” the minister said.</div>

A former Minister of Health and Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund, Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, would be buried in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday, July 21.<br />

A statement issued on Saturday by his son, Babajide, obtained by our correspondent in Jos, said the final funeral service the Under-Secretary-General of the UN, would take place at All Souls Church, Ibadan by 11:00am.<br />

Osotimehin, who also served as the pioneer Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, died in New York on Sunday, June 4 at the age of 68.<br />
<br />
Other events slated for the funeral include the Babatunde Osotimehin lecture to be held in London by the UNFPA, during the world Family Planning Summit.<br />
<br />
There will also be a Service of Songs by NACA scheduled for Abuja.<br />
<br />
THE United Nations System in Nigeria will host a memorial service on July 14, 2017, at UN House, Abuja.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, the UNFPA has condoled with Nigeria over Osotimehin’s death, saying the world has lost one of the strongest voices for women and young people.<br />
<br />
The UN agency in a statement on Saturday, said Osotimehin would be remembered for his years of service to Nigeria and humanity as a whole.</div>

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it has received court papers in a case filed by Senator Dino Melaye to stop it from verifying the signatures of members of his constituency who are asking the Senate to sack him.<br />

The commission said that the court papers were served on it in Abuja on Wednesday.<br />
<br />
The Director of Publicity and Voter Education at the commission, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said the commission would study the court papers before taking a position on it.<br />
<br />
“We have received the court papers. The commission was served on Wednesday. We are going to study the papers before knowing what to do. The papers do not mean that we are going to stop what we are doing now. However, we need to study them before knowing what we are going to do,” he said.<br />
<br />
It will be recalled that the commission had last Saturday told our correspondent that it merely read the story on the suit filed by Melaye in the media, adding that it would not rely on newspaper publications to do its job.<br />
<br />
The commission, therefore, said it would proceed with the programmes it had lined up for the verification of signatures of the voters who asked the senator to return home.<br />
<br />
But Melaye’s lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), told our correspondent that the case was actually filed last week Friday.<br />
<br />
He said the court might not have been able to serve the commission earlier because “Friday is usually observed as half-working day in Abuja and in other government agencies.<br />
<br />
“This is because the workers go for prayers and probably go home from there. So, if the commission said we didn’t serve it earlier, it might be correct.”<br />
<br />
The commission, after reviewing the case filed by Melaye, is expected to make a pronouncement if the exercise will commence on July 3, when it is expected to release the timetable for the verification of the signatures.<br />
<br />
Melaye had in his suit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/587/2017, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, described the recall petitions as fictitious.<br />
<br />
INEC had on Thursday last week written a letter to Melaye to inform him about the demand by the people of his constituency to recall him from the Senate.<br />
<br />
Kogi West, which Melaye represents in the Senate, has seven local governments areas.<br />
<br />
Signatures and petitions from each of the local government areas were packaged in seven bags, which were tagged according to the names of the local governments, and submitted to the commission.<br />
<br />
The local governments and the percentage of voters who signed the recall petition showed that Yagba West had the highest number of voters asking Melaye to return home from the Senate.<br />
<br />
The breakdown, as shown in the petition is: Yagba West, 55.7 per cent; Lokoja, 54.8 per cent ; Kogi, 52.77 per cent; Yagba East, 52 per cent; Ijumu (Melaye’s local government), 51.8 per cent; Mopa/Moro, 50.4 per cent  and Kabba/ Bunu, 46.7 per cent.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The judge, Justice Olatokunbo Majekodunmi in her ruling on Friday, held that from the evidence before her, the convict was guilty of the charge of rape preferred against him.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Adeleke, before his arrest, was a pastor of one of the new generation churches in Abeokuta.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He was arraigned on a one-count charge of rape, contrary to Section 258 (1) of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun 2006.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Majekodunmi held that the cleric had intercourse with the victim, now 27 years, when she was 14 years.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">She said, “The convict, John Adeleke, was the pastor of the church the victim and her parents attend.<br />
 “In the year 2004, Adeleke proposed marriage to the victim and informed her parents that God revealed to him that the victim is his wife; the claim was disregarded by her parents.<br />
“The convict attended night vigil at the home of the victim and used the opportunity to have sexual intercourse with her.<br />
“The convict disvirgined his victim and threatened to kill her if she informs anybody.<br />
“The parents of the victim later knew about it, which led to the arrest of the convict.”</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">However, in his testimony, Adeleke admitted that he had carnal knowledge of the victim when she was 19 years, not 14 years as claimed by the prosecution.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The pastor also admitted that the victim was in secondary school and a virgin during the period. His counsel, Adebiyi Ogundeyi, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The judge sentenced Adeleke to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The former Kaduna State Governor made the claim while featuring on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily on Friday.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Makarfi noted that the IPOB leader’s approach was worst than that of the northern youths who asked Igbos to vacate their region.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The PDP Chieftain made the above claims while reacting to why the Arewa youths had not received enough condemnation for issuing the quit notice against Igbos.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He said, “What he (Kanu) is doing is different from what the youth in the North have done. The youth in the North, may be 10 or 15, did a press conference.<br />
“Nnamdi Kanu is holding people to ransom, bringing economic activities to a standstill, holding what will look like a mini rally. None of that is happening in any part of this country.<br />
“All the leaders in the South-East have said yes we have concerns but the way you are going about it is wrong.<br />
“The northern boys are just press (sic) and they dispersed, period. I am not in support of what they did but I am talking of the manner of their action.<br />
“Whereas Nnamdi Kanu and his people are consistently holding people to economic hostage and at a particular time, they held the South-East down for a day.<br />
“You don’t find such not just in the North but any other part of the country. You cannot behave that way.”</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He, however, commended leaders of the South-East for condemning Kanu’s agitation, saying he has no authority to speak for the Igbos.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Makarfi said agitations are legal but must be done with decorum, devoid of hate speeches.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Noting that agitation cannot be wished away, he urged leaders of South East to call on government to implement the 2014 confab report.</div>

<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“We cannot wish away any agitation, but as part of the South-East, let them come together and approach the government for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference report and demand an amendment of the part that is of concern to the South-East but that amendment must also be generally accepted by Nigerians,” he added.</blockquote>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">A female pastor, Terry Gobanga, formerly known as Terry Apudo, has narrated how she was raped, battered and left to die by unknown men on the day of her wedding.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Terry, a young Nairobi pastor, said she was attacked while returning some items her fiance would need for the wedding.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Nobody, not even the eagerly waiting groom ever thought or had an inkling of what had happened to her.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">She told BBCAfrica, “It was going to be a very big wedding. I was a pastor, so all our church members were coming, as well as all our relatives.<br />
“My fiance, Harry, and I were very excited – we were getting married in All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi and I had rented a beautiful dress,” she told BBCAfrica.<br />
“But the night before the wedding I realised that I had some of Harry’s clothes, including his cravat. He couldn’t show up without a tie, so a friend who had stayed the night offered to take it to him first thing in the morning. We got up at dawn and I walked her to the bus station.<br />
“As I was making my way back home, I walked past a guy sitting on the bonnet of a car – suddenly he grabbed me from behind and dumped me in the back seat. There were two more men inside, and they drove off. It all happened in a fraction of a second.<br />
“A piece of cloth was stuffed in my mouth. I was kicking and hitting out and trying to scream. When I managed to push the gag out, I screamed: “It’s my wedding day!<br />
“That was when I got the first blow. One of the men told me to “co-operate or you will die.<br />
“The men took turns to rape me. I felt sure I was going to die, but I was still fighting for my life, so when one of the men took the gag out of my mouth I bit his manhood. He screamed in pain and one of them stabbed me in the stomach. Then they opened the door and threw me out of the moving car.<br />
“I was miles from home, outside Nairobi. More than six hours had passed since I had been abducted.<br />
“A child saw me being thrown out and called her grandmother.</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“People came running. When the police came they tried to get a pulse, but no-one could. Thinking I was dead, they wrapped me in a blanket and started to take me to the mortuary.<br />
“But on the way there, I choked on the blanket and coughed. The policeman said: ‘She’s alive?’ And he turned the car around and drove me to the biggest government hospital in Kenya.<br />
“I arrived in great shock, murmuring incoherently. I was half-naked and covered in blood, and my face was swollen from being punched.<br />
“But something must have alerted the matron, because she guessed I was a bride.<br />
“Let’s go around the churches to see if they’re missing a bride,” she told the nurses.<br />
“By coincidence, the first church they called at was All Saints Cathedral. “Are you missing a bride?” the nurse asked.<br />
 “The minister said: ‘Yes, there was a wedding at 10 o’clock and she didn’t come.”</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“When I didn’t show up to the church, my parents were panicking. People were sent out to search for me. Rumours flew. Some wondered: ‘Did she change her mind?’ Others said: ‘No, it’s so unlike her, what happened?’<br />
“After a few hours, they had to take down the decorations to make room for the next ceremony. Harry had been put in the vestry to wait.<br />
“When they heard where I was, my parents came to the hospital with the whole entourage. Harry was actually carrying my wedding gown. But the media had also got wind of the story so there were reporters too.<br />
“I was moved to another hospital where I’d have more privacy. That was where the doctors stitched me up and gave me some devastating news: “The stab wound went deep into your womb, so you won’t be able to carry any children.<br />
“I was given the morning-after pill, as well as antiretroviral drugs to protect me from HIV and Aids. My mind shut down, it refused to accept what had happened.<br />
“Harry kept saying he still wanted to marry me. “I want to take care of her and make sure she comes back to good health in my arms, in our house,” he said.<br />
“Truth be told, I wasn’t in a position to say Yes or No because my mind was so jammed with the faces of the three men, and with everything that had happened.<br />
“A few days later, when I was less sedated, I was able to look him in the eye. I kept saying sorry. I felt like I had let him down. Some people said it was my own fault for leaving the house in the morning. It was really hurtful, but my family and Harry supported me.</blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“The police never caught the rapists. I went to line-up after line-up but I didn’t recognise any of the men, and it hurt me each time I went.<br />
“It set back my recovery – it was 10 steps forward, 20 back. In the end I went back to the police station and said: “You know what, I’m done. I just want to leave it.”<br />
“Three months after the attack I was told I was HIV-negative and got really excited, but they told me I had to wait three more months to be sure.<br />
“Still, Harry and I began to plan our second wedding.<br />
“Although I had been very angry at the press intrusion, somebody read my story and asked to meet me.<br />
“Her name was Vip Ogolla, and she was also a rape survivor. We spoke, and she told me she and her friends wanted to give me a free wedding. “Go wild, have whatever you want,” she said.<br />
“I was ecstatic. I went for a different type of cake, much more expensive. Instead of a rented gown, now I could have one that was totally mine.<br />
“In July 2005, seven months after our first planned wedding, Harry and I got married and went on a honeymoon.</blockquote>

A Nigerian based in the United States of America, Mr. Toyin Dawodu, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to appoint a medical panel to determine the health status of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari.<br />

Buhari had left the country for the United Kingdom since May 7, 2017 for a medical vacation.<br />
<br />
But the details of the President’s ailment and condition have been kept away from Nigerians.<br />
<br />
In his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2017 and filed on June 28, Dawodu urged the court to declare Saraki as empowered by the Nigerian Constitution to set up a medical panel to determine Buhari’s health status “without first being a resolution of the Executive Council of the Federation.”<br />
<br />
Section 144(1) of the Nigerian Constitution provides that such a medical panel should be appointed by the Senate President following a resolution passed by two-thirds majority of the members of the Executive Council of the Federation.<br />
<br />
But the plaintiff, through his counsel, Frank Tietie, contended in the suit that “in the absence of a resolution by the Executive Council of the Federation” as required under section 144(1) of the Constitution, the Senate President could constitute such medical panel “to determine the health status of the President.”<br />
<br />
The respondents to the suit are Saraki, the Executive Council of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).<br />
<br />
While he prayed the court to direct the Executive Council of the Federation to convene a meeting to vote on a resolution on the medical fitness or incapability of President Buhari to discharge the functions of his office, he also prayed for an order directing the Senate President to set up a medical panel to investigate the President’s health.<br />
<br />
His prayers read in part, “A declaration that the 1st Respondent, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is empowered by Section 144(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Altered) to appoint a Medical Panel to determine the health status of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without first being, a resolution of the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF)  on the medical fitness or incapability of President Muhammadu Buhari to discharge the functions of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”<br />
<br />
A supporting affidavit deposed to by a lawyer, Otika Stephen, in the law firm of the plaintiff’s lead counsel, described Dawodu as a US-based Nigerian.<br />
<br />
The affidavit, however, stated that “the plaintiff is a registered voter in Nigeria. A copy of the applicant’s voter card is herein annexed and marked as Exhibit A”.<br />
<br />
It stated that Dawodu was not against Buhari but decided to institute the suit in the public interest.<br />
<br />
It also stated that Buhari’s health status was of national concern and that when his illness could no longer allow him to discharge the functions of his office, “it would be in the national interest to advise him to resign.”<br />
<br />
The affidavit, however, added that the Federal Executive Council “is unlikely and unwilling to exercise its constitutional responsibility of determining by resolution” the status of the President’s health.<br />
<br />
It stated that with President’s handing over to the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, as acting President, he (Osinbajo) “is fettered even in his capacity to fully discharge the functions and responsibilities of the office of the President.”<br />
<br />
It said it was therefore important to determine the health status of Buhari and the nature of his illness “in order to advise him to either resign or be impeached.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Bamidele spoke at a workshop on substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking for senior secondary school students, organized by the National Committee on Narcotics and Substance Abuse.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He noted that the teenager carried out the act because of his involvement in drugs.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Speaking on the topic “Illicit Drug and the Law,” Bamidele said the teenager was later brought to NDLEA facility by his parents for counseling and rehabilitation.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He said, “There’s a boy at Umuahia that his father brought to us for counseling. He sold two vehicles – a Lexus and a Forerunner worth N7.5m for N350,000.<br />
 “Do you know why? The reason is because he was involved in drug abuse and has gotten to dependent stage where there’s absolutely nothing he cannot sell, just to buy drugs.<br />
“It was a situation of keep these vehicles for me and just be giving me drugs. You notice when things began to miss at home that something is wrong.”</blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The NDLEA commander, also attributed high rate of violent crime amongst youths to drug abuse and consumption of illicit drugs.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">“The cult boys that cut the heads of other students at Uturu and used them for goal post, when they were arrested, we went and tested them and it was clear that they were high on drugs and that gave them such mind to severe another persons’ head for goal post.<br />
“You have to be very careful. The young man you saw on the screen was sent to deliver a parcel of which he doesn’t know much about and today, he’s in trouble.<br />
“Ignorance is not an excuse in law. The rich will use the children of the poor to do their illicit drug trafficking,” he added.</blockquote>

The Chairman, All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani, has raised the alarm that some people close to the Federal Government are taking advantage of the ill health of President Muhammadu Buhari to destabilise the government.<br />

Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital, on Friday during a media briefing, Balogun-Fulani stated that the CCT ruling discharging and acquitting Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over false declaration of assets and other charges, signaled that the Federal Government had no case against him.<br />

He, however, expressed surprise that the government decided to appeal the case.<br />
<br />
Balogun-Fulani said, “If the Federal Government should continue this way, one is sorry for the APC.  I am calling on the leadership of the party to let us put our house in order so that there should not be a crack. They should know that 2019 is around the corner.<br />
<br />
“From the beginning of the case against Senator Bukola Saraki, it was obvious that it was purely a political persecution and also a grand plan by a section of people close to the Federal Government and disgruntled elements to destabilise the APC and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Perhaps, these groups of people are taking advantage of the ailment of the President.<br />
<br />
“We want to urge the Federal Government to put aside this needless distraction and face the business of governance. There is a need for cooperation between the three arms of government, especially between the executive and the National Assembly.<br />
<br />
“The leaders of our party need to be reminded that another general election is less than two years from now and there is still much to be covered in meeting the needs and aspirations of the masses that voted them into power.”</div>

The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Friday, said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had not flouted his bail conditions, hence, security agents have no justification to re-arrest him.<br />

It added that Kanu had neither held any rally nor protested as instructed by the court, thus, he had not gone beyond the limit set by the court.<br />
<br />
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, had, while granting Kanu bail on April 25, 2017, ordered him not to grant press interviews, he should not participate in any rally and should stay away from any gathering of more than 10 persons.<br />
<br />
But the IPOB leader had in recent days met and addressed large gatherings, and reportedly granted interviews to some foreign news organisations.<br />
<br />
The development had led to calls, from some quarters, for security agencies to re-arrest Kanu on the grounds of violation of bail conditions.<br />
<br />
In addition, it was reported on June 3, 2017 that the Federal Government might ask the court to revoke his bail on grounds of alleged breach of the bail conditions granted him in April. Top sources in the Federal Ministry of Justice had said that alleged breaches of the bail conditions by Kanu were being noted and might be used to ask the court to revoke his bail.<br />
<br />
But IPOB said Kanu had not violated the bail conditions given to him by the court.<br />
<br />
IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, told our correspondent that those who had been converging in thousands on Kanu’s father’s house in Umuahia, Abia State, came to see the IPOB leader on their own volition and that he could not send his visitors away, neither would he decide not to receive them.<br />
<br />
Powerful said, “Nnamdi Kanu never flouted his bail conditions because the court said he should not go for rallies or protests and he has never done that since his release. But citizens of Biafra and other parts of Nigeria want to see him, that is why you see him with people and these people come to his father’s house. He cannot chase those who want to see him away. Since his release he never called for any rally or protest or press conference.<br />
<br />
“Don’t you know that if he wants to call the press he will call both local and international media? The court did not bar people from visiting him in his father’s compound. The court did not say he should not visit anyone in the society. Therefore, the security operatives have no justification to re-arrest him because he has never gone beyond their limit or held any rally or protest.”<br />
<br />
 “We are aware that anywhere he visited, people just gather to see who he is in person and he did not put himself in the position he is today – it is by the making of the Most High in Heaven. We wonder why people who fear his electrifying popularity are calling for his arrest – we know that the Nigerian government and her security agencies always like to intimidate people.”<br />
<br />
The IPOB spokesman said the secessionists were not calling for war but it would only advance its demand for Biafra through civil disobedience and peaceful rallies and protests.</div>

No fewer than 866 technical personnel spread across the public and civil service in Oyo state have been removed from government payroll following the ongoing staff verification exercise in the state.<br />

Speaking on the development, the Oyo State Head of Service, Soji Eniade, said the onus lied on the affected persons to prove whether their certificates were not fake as many of the affected persons were found not to have taken the three stages of the trade test.<br />
<br />
He said: “866 persons cutting across the civil and public service are out of service because they found to have fake trade test certificate. The trade test is in three stages and the majority of them did not sit for the exam. The onus is on them to explain that their certificate is not fake from their issuing authority.”<br />

“If they could prove that their certificate is not fake, they would be reinstated. The government is giving them the opportunity to prove themselves. They should go back to the source of their certificate and confirm,”<br />

Those affected include auto technicians, mechanics, drivers, plumbers, electricians, radio mechanics, carpenters, and bricklayers found to have fake trade test certificates.<br />
<br />
The list of those affected also include 483 staff of local governments and others in institutions, core civil service, colleges, tertiary institutions, Ministries, Departments and Agencies.<br />
<br />
The trade test certificate is issued and regulated by the Federal Ministry of Works to those persons who attend technical colleges, towards professionalising technicians’ practice.</div>

In order to achieve improvement in health for residents of Lagos State, the Government has scrapped Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), replacing it with Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC.<br />

The move, according to the State Government, was part of the new environmental management policy encapsulated in the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, CLI, aimed at reforming Solid Waste Management Sector of the State. Speaking at the launch of CLI held at Agege Stadium, Lagos, the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday, said that the development would drive the State to the desired future of achieving clean, hygienic and flood-free environment.<br />

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Idiat Adebule, said the initiative was an enduring solution carefully designed to address the shortcomings experienced in managing the State environment, as well as accelerate seamless cleaning of the State. “As a result, residential waste collection and processing which is concession to a reputable and competent multinational Waste Services Company is being given a new lease of life with 600 brand new compactors and 900,000 electronically tracked bins, while wastes generated by the commercial sector would be handled by licensed waste management operators (PSP).”<br />

Earlier, Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Adejare, disclosed that 920 LAGESC Corps personnel, marine waste collection facilities and mechanized sweeping, was a dream come true in the implantation of the new environmental initiative, just as he expressed confidence that the development would translate to improved health and quality of life for residents of the State.<br />
<br />
He also announced that the State Government would soon role out other components of the CLI such as residential waste collection and processing, commercial, industrial, hazardous and medical waste collection, as well as secondary and tertiary drainage maintenance.

<b><br /></b><b><br /></b><b>There are fears among security operatives that the notorious kidnap kingpin, Mr. Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka, Evans, who was arrested recently by the Police for coordinating several high-profile kidnappings and armed robbery could stage an escape from prison if remanded in prison custody.</b><br />

It was learnt that should Evans be remanded in Prison, he would pose a security threat to the nation given his sophistication and network. Top security agents, who spoke to newsmen explained that since the Police were yet to trace all the monies and properties Evans acquired during his 20-year reign as a high profile kidnapper, his stay in prison would avail him the opportunity to reorganize himself and set up a new gang.<br />
<br />
Again, the police are still investigating to nab his accomplices and may not be in a hurry to charge him to court now. They have a court order to keep him up to three months before he could face prosecution.<br />
<br />
A source within the security community told newsmen that several high profile criminals, who made huge sums money before their arrest were treated preferentially by prison officials, who they alleged gave them easy access to cell phones and internet connections.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>VIP treatment in prison</b><br />
custody The source said: “High-profile criminals enjoy VIP treatments in prison custody because they have money. We have learned that these suspects usually pay the warders to be detained in cells that are classified as VIP, and they would have access to their phones as well as the internet.<br />
<br />
These suspects don’t usually feel like they are in prison custody because they enjoy unlimited access to visitors anytime. “Since his money has not been recovered completely because we had information that he has hotels in Ghana and South Africa, it will be wrong to send him to prison.<br />
<br />
He is also said to have auto spare parts outlets in Ghana and some other Africa countries. People working for him are numerous and the Police are yet to arrest all of them. If he is remanded in prison with these assets unrecovered, Evans could rule any prison. Evans, can be in prison and easily recruit men outside, radicalise them, buy them arms and send them out for operations.<br />
<b><br />
Evans can organise a jailbreak</b><br />

‘’Evans could enjoy the security of the prison and unleash terror on the society. We have seen a lot of criminals like him and they have done same “We have had several cases like that in the past. We had the case of Henry Chibueze, alias Vampire, who kidnapped and killed several persons and was arrested in 2015 by the Department of State Security Service, DSS.<br />

While in prison, Vampire sponsored several groups, who carried out kidnappings on his behalf. Having raised enough money he staged an escape from the prison while he was being taken to court. Luckily for us, he was gunned down, a few weeks after his escape. There were also other cases in Abuja and Port Harcourt Rivers State, recently.<br />
<br />
A suspect in Kuje Prison was identified as the mastermind of several fraud cases where he would send members of his syndicate to buy goods and pay with fake bank alerts.<br />
<br />
“When members of the syndicate were arrested, they confessed that their leader was serving in Kuje Prison. One of the cases in Port Harcourt saw a detainee operating a massive kidnap gang. The kidnapper had organized several kidnappings before members of his gang were apprehended and he was exposed.”<br />

Evans deadly operation in Oyo state<br /></b><br />
However, sources said his story changed on June 26, 2017, when a Deputy Commissioner of Police currently serving at the Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Felix Vwamhi, contacted the Intelligence Response Team handling his case and informed them that while he served as the Area Commander in Charge of Oyo Town, Oyo State, in 2010, Evans and his gang members carried out multiple bank robberies. He added that a few days after the operation, Evans, and members of his gang went to rob more other banks in Rivers and Abia States.<br />
<br />
It was gathered that Evans, was caught on Close Circuit Camera, CCTV, stationed at one of the banks clutching an AK-47 rifle, after he and his group stormed the bank and two others, located at Oyo Junction, off Iwo Road. He was said to have apprehended the branch manager of the bank immediately he gained access to the bank and forced him to lead him into the vault where large sums of money were carted away. It was learned that the gang stormed the bank from a village in Iwo Town, where they had camped a night before the operation.<br />
<br />
They invaded the bank at 10: am on May 20, 2017, after snatching three vehicles from the Oyo/ Road and abducting its occupants. They were said to have attempted to move into Oyo Town where they intended to rob more banks, but they were stopped by Armoured Personnel Carriers. Sources at the IRT disclosed that the Oyo Area Commander at that time secured the service of an informant based in Lagos State, adding that the CCTV at the bank was obtained. The informant, who was said to have identified Evans, while he was seen stuffing bundles of dollars into a bag from the CCTV footage, warned that the gang had concluded plans to carry out more bank robberies in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, and Aba.<br />

Two days after that operation, Evans and his men were also sported in Port-Harcourt, where they raided some banks from where they moved to Aba and raided more banks.<br />
<b><br />
How they shared their loot in Lagos</b><br />
It was gathered that Evans and other commanders in the group, who were identified as directors, shared their loot at a location in Lagos State. Evans and other top members of the gang reportedly kept the foreign currencies stolen from the banks.<br />

few days after sharing their loot, a member of the gang, who specialized in opening bank security doors, was arrested at his residence in Ijesha, Lagos State. He was shown the footage where he saw himself breaking one of the doors to the banks through the aid of the informant. His arrest soon led to the arrest of several members of their gang, but Evans, who was the police prime target, managed to escape to Ghana.<br />
<br />
It was learned that while policemen from the Oyo Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, stormed Lagos, having gotten information that Evans was spotted in a nightclub, in Ikeja, he scaled the club’s fence, abandoned his vehicle and absconded.<br />

<b>Evans denies notorious kidnapper, Godogodo</b><br />
<br />
It was further gathered that following this revelation, the IRT confronted Evans with the claims that he may have worked with the late notorious armed robbery czar known as Abiodun Ogunjobi, a.k.a Godogodo, during his reign in the South West. Godogodo was reputed to have killed over 50 policemen and snatched their rifles. However, Evans reportedly admitted taking part in the 2010 Oyo bank robberies but denied ever working with Godogodo. He explained that he did not know the names of all the people he worked with during his robbery escapades.<br />
<br />
He said: “I don’t know all the people I carried out robbery operations with because I don’t share my contacts with everybody so that when they are caught, they won’t mention my name to the Police. At the time we went for that Oyo robbery, my gang was made up of mainly Igbo boys and traders from Ladipo Spare Part Market. We were working mainly at Port-Harcourt and other parts of the South East, but it was one of our friends known as Paul, who brought us to Oyo for the bank robbery. They were the people who knew the terrain very well.<br />
<br />
My friend Paul came with some Yoruba boys and we stayed in a village very close Oyo Town. I don’t know the name of that town, but in the morning before we went for the operation, we snatched three vehicles and we used them for the operation. Before we got to the bank, we had some of our men close to monitor movements of security operatives around the bank. And they had strict instructions to take out any security operative that may stand on our way.<br />

don’t know if any policeman was killed during the operation. I was just a driver. I wasn’t carrying any gun. We went to Port-Harcourt after the Oyo robbervans and his gang members carried out multiple bank robberies. He added that a few days after the operation, Evans, and memy and the Yoruba boys didn’t follow us. ND was the person who brought the information on that operation, while Nwanaba, brought the Aba operation. We shared the Oyo robbery loot with the Yoruba boys there in Oyo State before we left for the East.<br />
<br />
But, what we did in that operation was that every man should settle himself with what he got. After our Port-Harcourt and Aba operations, we came to Lagos and shared our loots at Ikeja area. Soon after, the police started arresting my gang members. I don’t know how they infiltrated our gang but I was forced to flee to Ghana.”<br />
