The Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau has suspended eight members of the party for constituting a rival State’s Caretaker Committee. 
 
Mr John Akans, the committee’s head of media, said in a statement on Saturday that the decision to suspend the erring members was taken at an emergency meeting on Friday evening. 
 
“The working committee, an arm of the Plateau Caretaker Committee at its emergency meeting held Friday evening at the party’s secretariat, reviewed the unfortunate incident that took place at the secretariat. 
 
“Some group of rascals, mischievously constituted themselves into a caretaker committee, which is an affront to national leadership of our party, under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus.

“The state leadership of the party frown at this decedents and therefore, approved their immediate suspension from the party. 
 
“Seven of the affected persons are: Nandom Penap Exodus, Godwin W. Bedir, Akims Mamot, Mrs Asabe Dareng, Nathaniel Dakas, Jecob Dashe and Alhaji Kabiru Musa,” he said. 
 
According to Akans, the group’s attempt was not only laughable and mischievous, but infantile and an act of lawlessness to the extreme which the party could not condone. 
 
The head of media announced that a seven-man disciplinary committee was immediately constituted to look into the activities of the suspended members. 
 
Communal conflict claims no fewer than 20 lives in Adamawa 
He gave the names of the disciplinary committee members as Mr Monday Agwom as Chairman with Mr Pam Davou Major to serve as Secretary. 
 
Others members of the committee were Jarusa Gotau, Mr Amos Komtul, Mr Dauda Daiyabu, Hajia Sa,adatu Ado and Wycliffe Wansonh. 
 
The party called on members across the state to forget the unfortunate incident and continue to work together for the progress and victory of the party.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has said the Federal Government has no resources to foot the bill of returning Nigerians. 
 
He said this while addressing complaints about the directives that returning Nigerians from abroad must pay N290,000 for their isolation and feeding ahead of their evacuation. 
 
He spoke at a media briefing by the Presidential task Force on COVID-19 on Friday. 
 
He explained that the citizens could not be housed at the National Youth Service orientation camps or school dormitories because each person had to be accommodated in a room and the only option was to keep them in hotels, noting that the best room rate in Abuja was N15,000.

The FG had on Thursday directed all its embassies not to airlift any Nigerian who did not pay for his quarantine and feeding ahead of the evacuation. 
 
But addressing the development, the minister stated, “This is not by any stretch of imagination something the government is happy to do. As I mentioned, if the resources were there, we would evacuate everybody.” 
 
He explained that 620 persons had been evacuated and quarantined, adding that the government was expending resources in managing them.

The coronavirus pandemic has somewhat turned the world’s attention to the immune system, the body’s defence mechanism against disease-causing bacteria, viruses and other organisms that we touch, ingest and inhale every day.

Although the immune system is not always successful in preventing microbes from entering the body, it can help to quickly recover from the illness. 
 
According to medical scientists, one of the best ways to stay healthy and boost the immune system is to eat healthy because what one eats is the major factor that determines how healthy one will be.

Eating healthy, antioxidant-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein is an important part of maintaining good immune system and health to ward off infection and illness. 
 
The following 10 foods can boost your immune system, although the list is not exhaustive. 
 
Honey 
 
Honey’s antioxidant and antibacterial properties help improve the digestive system and boost immunity. It is a powerhouse of antioxidants, which are effective for the removal of free radicals from the body. According to Delhi, India-based nutritionist Anshul Jaibharat, one can start one’s day by adding a spoonful of honey and lemon juice to a cup of warm water. One can drink this cleansing tonic before breakfast to reap honey’s amazing health benefits. 
 
Garlic 
 
Garlic’s scent tips you off to its many health benefits. The pungent aroma comes from sulphur compounds, including allicin. Scientists believe that allicin may block enzymes involved in infections; some studies suggest that swallowing garlic may ward off colds. 
 
Garlic can be cooked with other foods, although some people can stomach eating a bit like a pill, followed by milk or water. Research has also linked garlic intake to a lower risk of stomach, colon and oesophagus cancers. For a flavour and immunity boost, add garlic to marinades, roasted vegetables or grain bowls. 
 
Grapefruit 
 
Half a grapefruit has more than 60 per cent of your daily vitamin C content, and eating grapefruit may also help the body absorb other essential nutrients, such as iron. People who regularly consume foods containing vitamin C may have slightly shorter colds or milder symptoms. For a healthy morning treat, broiled grapefruit with a little cinnamon sugar. 
 
Ginger 
 
Ginger, which is sometimes recommended to treat nausea, is high in both antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. A recent review of 60 studies found that ginger might have beneficial effects on ailments like obesity, heart disease and diabetes. It also contains immune-system-supporting compounds like beta-carotene and capsaicin. 
 
You can toss freshly ground ginger into a tofu stir-fry or sip it in your tea. 
 
Lemon 
 
Lemons are high in compounds called bioflavonoids, which kill cancer-causing free radicals. They also provide vitamin C (you can meet half your daily requirement from one fruit), so adding lemon juice to your meals is an easy strategy for protecting yourself against colds and other infections. 
 
One simple way to work in a daily dose of vitamin C is to drink lemon water, either chilled or warm. A squeeze of lemon also makes steamed veggies tastier. 
 
Apple 
 
People who eat an apple a day use fewer prescription medications, according to a 2015 study. And regular apple eaters report fewer asthma symptoms, according to research conducted by a group of researchers in the United Kingdom. 
 
Apples are also high in fibre, which can help reduce the inflammation common during infections. They are also a superfood when it comes to satiety. 
 
To turn apples into a more energising snack, slice one up and enjoy with a spoonful of peanut or almond butter. Buy organic or wash well before eating: a recent study found that a little water and baking soda remove pesticide residue from the fruit. 
 
Chicken soup 
 
Chicken soup helps soothe cold symptoms, likely because the warm broth can thin nasal mucus so it can clear more easily. Soup in general hydrates, making it a smart meal pick when you’re sick. If you want, you can spice up your chicken soup with nutrient-dense foods like carrots, onions and fresh herbs. 
 
Additionally, foods high in protein, such as lean meats and poultry, are high in zinc–a mineral that increases the production of white blood cells and T-cells, which fight infection. Other great sources of zinc are oysters, nuts, fortified cereal, and beans. 
 
Mushroom 
 
Mushrooms may be a potent weapon in warding off colds, flu, and other infections. Studies done on fresh mushrooms, dried mushrooms, and extracts have shown that mushrooms such as shiitake, maitake, and reishi have antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-tumour effects. 
 
Berries 
 
Berries are rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids, phytochemicals found in fruits and vegetables that may work as antioxidants and prevent injury to cells. 
 
One cup of strawberries contains as much as 100mg of Vitamin C, which is nearly as much as a cup of orange juice. Dark berries such as blueberries are especially high in bioflavonoids. For an optimal immune system boosting effect, eat a bowl of mixed berries, or vary which berries you choose from day to day, rather than eating only one type. 
 
Fish 
 
Fish are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and other healthy fats which help increase the activity of white blood cells. These Omega 3s may also play an important role in the production of compounds that regulate immunity in the body and help protect the body from damage from overreacting to infections. 
 
The best way to get the omega 3 fatty acids – DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)–is by eating fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, and mackerel. You can also get this omega 3s through krill oil capsules or algae supplements. Other sources of the omega 3 fatty acid ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) are flax seeds, flax oil, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and walnuts. 
 
Meanwhile, one thing to keep in mind when choosing fish is that pregnant women and young children should avoid high mercury fishes like king mackerel, tilefish, shark, and swordfish.

Although eating the above foods does not mean you may not get sick, medical experts have said taking the steps could dramatically strengthen the immune system and improve your overall health.

Don’t smoke 
 
Smokers have an increased risk of catching infections and suffering severe complications from them. Smoking damages the lungs and people with unhealthy lungs have been said to have a high risk of contracting coronavirus and other infections. Smoking is also the major cause of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Hence, you might want to desist from smoking, especially at this period of increased health risk. 
 
Get adequate sleep 
 
Sleep is important for health in general, and as a bonus, it may also benefit our immune function. For instance, a study showed that those with insomnia had, on average, less immune response to the influenza vaccine, while another study in twins showed those with worse sleep had altered expression of genes related to immune function. 
 
In another study, 153 volunteers were inoculated with the rhinovirus (the virus that can cause the common cold). It was found that those who slept less than seven hours were three times more likely to develop symptoms than those who slept more than eight hours. 
 
Again, the science in this area may not be robust, but when it comes to overall health, proper sleep helps. In times like these, you should prioritise sleep hygiene. 
 
If you’re isolated at home, that likely means more time on electronics like tablets, phones, and TVs. This may be a good time to invest in blue-light blocking glasses and to look for non-tech related activities to do in the evening, like puzzles, crosswords, or reading an actual book (not an ebook!). 
 
The right amount of exercise 
 
Observational studies show that those who exercise tend to suffer fewer infections than those who do not. While those studies have confounding variables, the general consensus is that overall exercise is likely beneficial. 
 
Stay active, but remember that now is not the time to start a new high-intensity exercise routine. If you already enjoy strenuous exercise, consider decreasing the frequency or intensity by 10-20 per cent (this is not scientifically backed but it’s recommended by some experts). 
 
Also, try to focus on home or outside exercise. Shared gym equipment, like weights and cardio machines, may be surfaces that transmit the virus. 
 
Stress management 
 
While acute stressors may temporarily enhance immune functions, chronic stressors can likely diminish immune function. Worrying about job loss, financial markets and debts, or focusing on the uncertainties of the future can raise cortisol levels, which may negatively impact on immune function. 
 
While we can’t make this stressful situation disappear, we can all take measures to control our response to stress. Meditation, mindfulness exercise, and getting outside and going for walks are all examples of activities that can potentially lower blood pressure, blood sugar, and make your days much more pleasant. 
 
Drink alcohol in moderation 
 
In times of stress, some people turn to alcohol as a coping mechanism. While meditation, nature walks, and mindfulness exercises are likely healthier ways of coping, for some, they aren’t enough, and alcohol adds a little something extra for them. 
 
However, studies show a relationship between chronic heavy alcohol consumption and increased susceptibility to infections. 
 
Perhaps most pertinent for the discussion about COVID-19, some of these studies showed an increased risk among heavy drinkers of acute respiratory distress syndrome, the lung complication responsible for most of the COVID-19 related deaths. 
 
Hence, now is the time to limit your alcohol intake, with some medical experts suggesting two drinks for men and one drink for women per day.

The total number of people who have recovered from coronavirus in Nigeria hit 1,320 on Friday. 
 
This was contained in an update by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control via its website. 
 
A state-by-state chart showed that Lagos State has recorded 541 recoveries, Kano and Gombe States followed with 90 recoveries each and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with 88 recoveries. 
 
Similarly, 59 patients have been discharged in Ogun State while Kaduna and Sokoto States each discharged 53 patients.

Other states that have reported recoveries are Borno (44), Bauchi (41), Osun (30), Zamfara (29), Katsina (29), Oyo (28), Edo (27), Ekiti (13), Kwara (12), Akwa Ibom (12), Kebbi (11), Adamawa (11), Ondo (11), Rivers (10), Delta (9), Nasarawa (5), Jigawa (4), Plateau (4), Yobe (3), Bayelsa (3), Niger (2), Enugu (2), Imo (2), Taraba (1), Anambra (1), Ebonyi (1), and Abia (1). 
 
“On the 15th of May 2020, 288 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. 
 
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours. 
 
“Till date, 5445 cases have been confirmed, 1320 cases have been discharged and 171 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the Centre stated.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has urged banks and the organised private sector to fumigate their premises to prevent the spread of the ravaging COVID-19, as government eased the lockdown. 
 
The Ooni in Ikeja, Lagos, when he donated two motorised modular fumigators to the Pest Control Association of Nigeria, PECAN. 
 
He said COVID-19 is real and hovering all over the world: “I think there is the need to introduce other measures to fight and control the pandemic from causing grave damage to humanity. 
 
“We are all fighting what we cannot see with our naked eyes. It is much more difficult to fight a pandemic that we cannot see.

“A lot of people, even in Nigeria, still don’t believe that the virus is real. Maybe because they cannot see what we are fighting. 
 
“It is indeed a war, absolute war against humanity. It is about time we started taking it serious. Disinfection is a key aspect of preventing and controlling COVID-19 in Nigeria and it is as important as wearing of nose masks, washing of hands and other health precautions stipulated by government. 
 
“Let the government put the law in place; as they are mandating us to wear face masks, they should mandate basic disinfection of the environment to prevent the spread of the pandemic.” 
 
He, therefore, charged PECAN to set the peace by moving around public areas to disinfect the environment, public areas and educate people on the essence of fumigation. 
 
According to Ooni, “in my own little way, from House of Oduduwa, I have donated these small machines to you, offer free services in your own little way. 
 
“I know it is very difficult for you to service everybody, but organise seminars, lectures and workshops to let the private sector know the necessity of disinfection.” 
 
He said the organised private sector, especially the Pest Control Association of Nigeria is key in the fight against COVID-19 . 
 
While speaking on the importance of the motorised modular fumigators, Professor Peju Esimai, a Public Health Physician and the Head of Department, Community Health, Obafemi Awolowo University said infection prevention and control is crucial in the war against COVID-19. 
 
Mr. Kunle Williams, National President of PECAN, said the association was ready to partner with the government and private sector in fighting the pandemic through active fumigation and disinfection of the environment. 
 
“The reality is that COVID-19 is here, we all just need to learn to live safely. We at PECAN have been partnering and are still partnering with the government to sensitise people on how to decontaminate and disinfect,” he said. 
 
Mr. Williams said the equipment donated by the Ooni of Ife would go a long way in pest control in Nigeria and the association will carry out corporate social responsibility with it, in partnership with the local governments at the grassroots.

Former Nigerian Internationals, Mutiu Adepoju and Ike Shorunmu believe Odion Ighalo needs a clear head to decide his future with Manchester United. 
 
While the Nigerian striker l has stated that he would love to make his six month loan move from Shanghai Shenhua to Man United permanent but the old Trafford outfit are still dilly-dallying over a fresh deal amidst reports  that  they are willing to bring on board younger strikers. 
 
Meanwhile, Shanghai Shenhua has offered Ighalo a mouth-watering £400, 000 per week (N190million) wage  as an incentive to return to the Chinese side as against the £300, 000 he was receiving before his loan move to Manchester United in January where he currently earns £100,000 per week. 
 
But Shorunmu said it could be very difficult for players to take an informed decision in such circumstance, advising  Ighalo to consider the level he wants to take his career to before making a decision.

“He(Ighalo) must think of what he wants to do after football before making a decision,” stated  the former national team goalkeeper. 
 
“ Some people might consider the offer from China too good to ignore but money is not all that matters even at the peak of one’s career.” 
 
Adepoju described the decision as a big one as the Nigerian striker is torn between staying at glamorous club where he would get less pay and moving back to China where mega bucks awaits him. 
 
He said: “Well, I think it is a big decision for him to make based on the offer from China which is mouth-watering. 
 
“If Man United is offering him pension in his contract he can take it. The offer from his parent club is very juicy but you never can tell what will happen when he moves back there. 
 
“Manchester United is a big club with huge pedigree. If they offer Ighalo more than what he is earning presently when the contract is made permanent, he should accept it. 
 
”Playing for Man United will be more dignifying and dependable than going to China,” noted  Adepoju.

The Senate said it has not received official communication from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to step down the legislation of the Infectious Diseases Bill. 
 
Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Ajibola Basiru, made this known via Twitter on Thursday evening. 
 
The NGF had in a communiqué asked the National Assembly to step down the Bill to allow for wider consultations with stakeholders. 
 
“Following an update from the Governor of Sokoto State and Vice Chairman of the NGF, Aminu Tambuwal, on the proposed Control of Infectious Diseases Bill, 2020 introduced by the House of Representatives, governors raised concern with the lack of consultation with state governments who are at the forefront of the epidemic. The Forum resolved that the Bill should be stepped down until an appropriate consultative process is held, including a public hearing to gather public opinion and concerns,” the communiqué read.

But the House of Representatives faulted the NGF for asking the federal parliament to step down the bill, saying “federal parliament does not legislate for states”. 
 
Also reacting on Thursday, Basiru said, “As to inquiry on what is the position of the Senate to the newspaper report on the call for suspension by Governors of the Infectious Disease Bill. 
 
“The Senate does not act on newspaper reports. When and if a communication is received by the Senate from appropriate channel, it will be considered democratically in accordance with the procedure of the Senate and a decision taken by majority as is expected in a democracy. 
 
“The Bill is yet to be read the second time at which stage, by Senate Orders, the principles of the Bill will be discussed and a decision taken on whether the Bill should proceed for further legislative processes. 
 
“The governors may engage the Senators in their respective states on whatever objections they have on the Bill so that it may be taken up on their behalf by the Senators from their states during the second reading.” 
 
The Control of Infectious Diseases Bill 2020, undergoing legislation on the floor of the National Assembly, makes provisions for the regulation and prevention of the spread of infectious diseases in the country. 
 
The proposed law empowers police to arrest, quarantine violators without warrant; prescribe jail term for violation of quarantine by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, empowers the Federal Government to convert private properties to isolation centres, amongst others.

Police in Lagos have detained one Habib Olapari, his teenage brother Rilwan and one Peter for allegedly hacking their neighbour Taiwo Eluyemi to death in front of his son. 
 
The suspects were said to have committed the alleged offence on April 23, at 7, Taiwo Street, Mafoluku Oshodi. 
 
It was gathered that Eluyemi, a neighbour to the Olaparis, had whined about the many friends they brought to his apartment to watch television. 
 
A disagreement was said to have ensued which was settled only for Habib and his co-conspirators to allegedly attack the man with axe from behind on April 23.

According to reports, the suspects pretended to be fighting which made the deceased intervene in a bid to broker peace but was instead axed from behind. 
 
He was said to have suffered excessive bleeding and died as a result of the injury. 
 
The police, it was gathered, have declared Habib’s mother, Iya Adura and a certain Tobi wanted for the roles they played in the murder of Eluyemi. 
 
According to a resident, Oluyemi’a mother provided the axe used on the deceased. 
 
After their arrest, the suspects were transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti.

The Chairman of the task force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha,  said Nigeria did not order for the Madagascar herbal mixture for the cure of coronavirus. 
 
Mustapha stated this on Thursday at the press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. 
 
He said the African country sent the herbal drug to other countries on the continent out of brotherly love in order to contain the pandemic. 
 
Mustapha said, “Nigeria did not ask Madagascar for any solution. The Madagascar government decided to airlift the quantity meant for African countries. That of West Africa was airlifted to Guinea Bissau.

“The impression out there is as if we abandoned homegrown solution and we are looking for Madagascar’s solution. It was taken in the spirit of brotherly love to Guinea Bissau.” 
 
The SGF, however, said airlifting the solution was not a priority of the task force as there were other issues before it. 
 
He stated, “We have to make efforts to airlift it out of Guinea Bissau, but there are no flights, so there are so many things we need to consider. If we are freighting it through air cargo, it has its process. 
 
“It is not our priority for now. There are other things we are dealing with to make sure we contain the spread in our nation. We will do that but that does not in anyway downplay what we have asked our scientists to do.”

A former Anambra South Senator, Dr Andy Uba has congratulated Professor Ibrahim Gambari on his appointment as President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff. 
 
In a statement made available to newsmen Thursday, Senator Uba observed that Gambari’s credentials as a renowned diplomat, academic scholar, and former minister will help advance President Buhari’s development agenda for the nation. 
 
“Professor Ibrahim Gambari is one of the best minds we have in Nigeria,” he said. 
 
“His academic credentials coupled with his diplomatic experience as Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the United Nations will provide the impetus needed to advance President Buhari’s development agenda for the nation.

“I do not doubt that as Chief of Staff, Professor Gambari will advise the president on policies and programs that will be of utmost benefit to the Nigerian people.” 
 
Sen. Uba added that as a former minister, Gambari will blend perfectly well with cabinet members. 
 
“Being a former external affairs minister, he will have no problems conveying minister’s requests to the President,” he added.

A royal father, David Ogungbemi, 62;his son, Gbenga 21, and one Sarafa Olayiwola were, yesterday, remanded in police custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Ilare-Ijesha, Osun State. 
 
Oba David Ogungbemi, who is the Aketewi of Iketewi in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, with the other two defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara of an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court. 
 
Police prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, alleged that the defendant sexually exploited the 14-year-old girl and impregnated her in the process. 
 
He alleged that they conspired amongst themselves to commit a felony to wit rape and sexual exploitation.

The prosecutor also told the court that the trio committed the offence on May 5, 2020, at Ilare-Ijesha. 
 
The defendants, who were arraigned on three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, rape and sexual exploitation, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them. 
 
Defence counsel to the monarch and his son, Mrs Yinka Popoola, and that of the third defendant, Tunbosun Oladipupo, while applying for bail, urged the court to admit their clients to bail in most liberal terms, assuring the court that they would not jump bail. 
 
The Chief Magistrate, Dr Ayilara, ordered that the accused person be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case to May 18, 2020, for ruling on the application.

Weeks back, Burna Boy stunned fans after he seemingly demeaned his colleague, Reekado Banks when he rejected his challenge. 
 
The drama began when a fan asked which fellow Nigerian artiste Burna Boy would love to challenge musically. 
 
Burna replied on Twitter saying:” I don’t know what a hit battle is but I’m willing to go toe to toe with any worthy challenger. Lyrically, musically, physically. However, they want it”. 
 
‘Oluwa ni’ singer, Reekado Banks replied by expressing his desire to battle Burna Boy. However, Burna Boy in his reply said he doesn’t consider Reekado Banks as a worthy challenger.

He said: “You know I got too much love for you bro. But didn’t you see when I said “Worthy Challenger”? Reeky oooooo!!!” 
 
In a recent Instagram live chat with media personality, Douglas Jekan, Reekado reacted on the issue. 
 
“To be honest, I didn’t take it as crazy as everybody else. That was why I still asked him ‘Are you doing the challenge or not? The idea was for us to play the music. I just thought we wanted to play music, but he didn’t see it that way, he saw it the way he saw it. And that just explains who he is; it has nothing to do with who I am”. 
 
On the impression that people thought he slowed down after leaving Mavin records, Reekado said: “They would imagine that since they were not seeing me. I was trying to build a structure and locked in the studio trying to record many songs. I was taking my time to figure out myself, to figure out how the rest of my life is going to go”.

Nigeria’s Coronavirus infections have surpassed 5,000 after the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, released 193 new cases of the pandemic on Thursday. 
 
According to NCDC, Nigeria’s total confirmed Coronavirus cases stand at 5,162. 
 
Of the 193 new cases released on Thursday, Lagos topped with 58 fresh cases. 
 
Kano has 46 cases and Jigawa 35.

While Yobe registered 12 new cases, FCT recorded nine cases; Ogun, seven; Plateau and Gombe, five cases each; Imo, four cases.

Three deaths were recorded on Thursday across the nation, while 1,180 patients who survived the pandemic have been discharged so far.

 Ex-Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is among 140 current and former world leaders calling for “a people’s vaccine” against the coronavirus (COVID-19). 
 
The leaders signed a petition on Thursday in which they urged all governments to push for a free COVID-19 vaccine for all when developed.

President of South Africa and Chairman of the African Union, Cyril Ramaphosa; his Senegalese and Ghanaian counterparts, Macky Sall and Nana Akufo-Addo, respectively, are among the signatories. 
 
The petition was initiated by the Joint UN Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), the United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating the HIV/AIDS virus. 
 
Obasanjo, who led Nigeria as a civilian Head of State between 1999 and 2007, is a member of the Champion for an AIDS- Free Generation. 
 
In the petition, the leaders demand that when a COVID-19 vaccine is developed, it should be made available free of charge to all. 
 
According to UNAIDS, the demand is the most ambitious position yet by world leaders “on what has become the most urgent quest in modern science”. 
 
The petition came ahead of a virtual meeting of the World Health Assembly, the world’s highest health policy making body comprising health ministers from UN member states, holding on May 18. 
 
“We are calling on Health Ministers at the World Health Assembly to rally behind a people’s vaccine against this disease urgently. 
 
“Governments and international partners must unite around a global guarantee which ensures that, when a safe and effective vaccine is developed, it is produced rapidly at scale and made available for all people, in all countries, free of charge. 
 
“The same applies for all treatments, diagnostics, and other technologies for COVID-19,” they said. 
 
The petitioners noted that the world would be safer only when everyone could benefit from the science and access a vaccine, “and that is a political challenge”. 
 
“We must heed the warning that ‘those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. 
 
“We must learn the painful lessons from a history of unequal access in dealing with disease such as HIV and Ebola. 
 
“But we must also remember the ground-breaking victories of health movements, including AIDS activists and advocates who fought for access to affordable medicines for all,” they said. 
 
Other signatories include former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown. 
 
The demand comes as the world searches for a vaccine against the novel virus. 
 
As of Thursday morning, the disease had infected no fewer than 4.4 million people and killed more than 300,000 others, according to the World Health Organisation(WHO). 
 
On April 24, the WHO in collaboration with world leaders launched what they call Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator. 
 
ACT Accelerator seeks to speed up the development, production and equitable distribution of COVID-18 drugs, tests kits and vaccines around the world. 
 
The petitioners called for a mandatory worldwide sharing of all COVID-19-related knowledge, data and technologies with a pool of COVID-19 licenses freely available to all countries. 
 
“Countries should be empowered and enabled to make full use of agreed safeguards and flexibilities in the WTO Doha Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health to protect access to medicines for all 
 
“We call for an agreement that establishes a global and equitable rapid manufacturing and distribution plan, that is fully-funded by rich nations, for the vaccine and all COVID-19 products and technologies that guarantee transparent ‘at true cost-prices’ and supplies according to need. 
 
“Action must start urgently to massively build capacity worldwide to manufacture billions of vaccine doses,” they demanded. 
 
The leaders also called for urgent steps to recruit and train millions of paid and protected health workers needed to deliver them.

 The Movement for the Survival of the Sovereign State of Biafra has dared the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to come back home and fight for Biafra. 
 
MASSOB also cautioned Kanu to desist from insulting its leader, Ralph Uwazuruike over issues concerning the struggle for Biafra.

Speaking with a source on Thursday, the movement’s National Director of Information, Sunday Okereafor, said it was wrong for Kanu to stay in Canada, United States of America or London and think that he could achieve Biafra from outside Nigeria. 
 
Okereafor also faulted Kanu for accusing Uwazuruike of thwarting the fight towards achieving a sovereign state of Biafra, adding that the MASSOB leader brought the IPOB leader into the struggle. 
 
He maintained that the IPOB leader would not be able to achieve Biafra by speaking from London, Canada and America. 
 
“MASSOB says on Biafra, we stand. Nnamdi Kanu can’t say that he is fighting for Biafra and he is staying in America, London, Canada, Australia. Every day, he is flying; he should come back home and pay the price. 
 
“MASSOB is telling Nnamdi Kanu to come down home and fight for the freedom, rather than hiding abroad. Nnamdi Azikiwe was in Nigeria as Governor General of Nigeria and Muammar Ghaddafi was there fighting for the freedom of his people, Jomo Kenyatta fought for the freedom of Kenyans from Kenya. 
 
“Also, Thomas Jefferson of America stayed in America and fought for their own freedom. So, Nnamdi Kanu should come home; he should bring his own members home and fight, rather than castigating Uwazuruike. 
 
“Odumegwu Ojukwu never castigated Michael Okpara and Uwazuruike never castigated Ojukwu. Kanu was an employee of MASSOB. Uwazuruike employed him. It is now that he wants to be the boss. Does Kanu know about the struggle? No,” Okereafor said. 
 
He stated that MASSOB would continue to maintain its non-violent approach towards achieving Biafra, adding that some people were working towards hijacking the struggle from the movement. 
 
Okereafor said, “We know that they want to hijack the struggle. Even now, they want to hijack it. But Uwazuruike remains the father. Kanu was an employee of MOSOB. How can an employee know more than the Managing Director? 
 
“Uwazuruike is going the normal line in which he is supposed to go and get Biafra. We don’t carry arms; so, how can you expect us to carry arms. Kanu is a freedom fighter; how would you run away from the people he is fighting for?”

The naira on Thursday exchanged at ₦450 to dollar at the parallel market as build up on dollar demand continued to rise. 
 
The naira is seen weakening on the black market as dollar demand rises from foreign investors and importers with payment obligations accumulated amid hard currency shortages triggered by an oil price crash, traders said.

Aside devaluing the naira in March, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also adopted a unified exchange rate, and pushed the official rate of the naira to N376 to dollar for International Money Transfer Operators rate to banks; N377 to dollar for banks’ dollar sale to CBN and pegged CBN’s dollar sales to banks at N378. 
 
The CBN also moved the official rate to N360 to the dollar from N307 per dollar previously and now selling dollar to foreign portfolio investors (FPI) at N380 at the Investors’ & Exporters FOREX window from N366 per dollar previously. 
 
But the move has failed to strengthen the local currency which many experts fear could face second round of devaluation. 
 
Meanwhile, the naira is seen steady on the official and over-the-counter spot markets, traders say, as bidders resist weakening the currency since the majority of dollar supply is from the CBN. 
 
The bank resumed forex sales last week to help importers and individuals with dollar expenses abroad ramp up economic activity following a phased easing of the coronavirus lockdown.

Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has faulted the latest review of the 2020 budget by the Federal Government, saying it shows that the regime has lost touch with current global economic realities. 
 
Rather than reviewing the budget, Atiku advised the FG to sell eight or nine of the presidential jets and cancel the N27bn earmarked for the renovation of the National Assembly complex.

Atiku said this in a statement in Abuja, on Thursday. He expressed disappointment that despite the crash of oil prices in the international market and the nation’s inability to expand its revenue base, the regime only slashed the budget by a “mere 0.6 per cent.” 
 
The former Vice President explained that significant cuts in funds budgeted for presidential feeding and transport as well as non-essential sub heads will go a long way in ensuring that Nigerians get a better deal. 
 
Atiku said, “It is to my consternation that despite the crash in the price of oil, and the inability of Nigeria to expand our revenue base through the non-oil sector, the Federal “Government of Nigeria has only seen fit to slash our budget by a mere 0.6 per cent, from N10.594trn to N10.523trn. This represents a reduction of only N71bn. 
 
According to him, as at the time the budget was first presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday October 8, 2019, it was predicated on a crude oil production of 2.18 million barrels a day, at an expected oil price of $57 per barrel. He said this situation has since changed. 
 
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia, a nation with a much stronger production capacity than ours and with a larger global market share, as well as foreign reserves that is 12 times ours, has slashed her budget by almost 30%. Ditto for other oil economies. 
 
He said, “My counsel to the Federal Government of Nigeria is this: put Nigerians first and cut your coat, not according to your size, but according to your cloth.

The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Mission in Thailand not to evacuate any stranded individual who failed to settle his accommodation and feeding charges ahead of repatriation. 
 
This was contained in a letter to the evacuees by the Head of Chancery, Nigerian Mission in Thailand, Nicholas Uhomoibhi, dated May 14.

It read, “Dear prospective evacuees, I am directed to bring to your attention that due to measures that are beyond the control of the COVID-19 local organising team in Nigeria, all evacuees going to Nigeria henceforth are to now pay quarantine isolation in hotel or accommodation centre before departure and arrival in Nigeria. 
 
“In this regard, all prospective evacuees are to note the negotiated rate: Accommodation, N15,000 for 16 days (#240,000); feeding, N3,600 for 16 days (#57,000). Total, N297,000.” 
 
“Kindly note that the rates were negotiated in Nigeria and the embassy has been directed not to airlift any evacuees who fail to pay the fees.”

 A driver with the Bus Rapid Transit, Collins Nnodi, has gone into hiding after crushing a businesswoman, Mrs Grace Okeleke, to death at the Agric bus stop in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. 
 
The incident happened on Monday.

It was gathered that Grace, the wife of the Head of Public Relations, Globacom, Andrew Okeleke, attempted to cross the road after being dropped off by her driver around 7.20pm, when Nnodi, who was driving a bus with number plate EPE 59 XR, knocked her down. 
 
It was learnt that the businesswoman died on the spot. 
 
However, Nnodi was said to have zoomed off and abandoned the victim at the scene of the accident. 
 
Annoyed by the development, it was gathered that an angry mob vandalised some BRT buses plying the route. 
 
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident, the family said in a statement that until her death, Grace was a minister at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, adding that the businesswoman was survived by her husband and children. 
 
The statement read in part, “The death has been announced of Mrs Grace Okeleke, wife of the Head, Public Relations, Globacom, Mr Andrew Okeleke. 
 
“Mrs Okeleke died in a motor accident on the Lagos Road, Ikorodu, on Monday evening. She was hit by a Lagos BRT bus with number plate EPE 59 XR. 
 
“The deceased was crossing the road after being dropped off by her driver just after the Agric bus stop, inwards Ketu, where there was no pedestrian bridge, when she was hit by the BRT bus. She died on the spot before she could be taken to hospital. 
 
“The late Mrs Okeleke, a businesswoman, hailed from Issele-Mkpitime, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. She was until her demise a top leader of her town’s women group in Lagos as well as a minister of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Grace Hall Parish, Ikorodu. 
 
“Mrs Okeleke is survived by her husband and children. Burial arrangements will be announced later by her family.” 
 
When contacted, the Chief Security Officer, Primero Transport Services Limited, the franchise holder of the BRT buses, Cletus Okodolor, while commiserating with the family, condemned Nnodi for abandoning Grace at the scene of the accident. 
 
Okodolor said, “We sympathise with the family and we are shocked at the action of the busman. The accident involved one of our buses, with number 344. The bus was coming from Ikorodu inwards Mile 12, and she was trying to cross to the other side of the road without actually looking properly; she entered the BRT corridor to cross and there was contact. 
 
“The woman died on the spot. But the busman did not help matters, because he drove off out of fear of being hurt and refused to put us in the picture. Suddenly, we started getting calls that an angry mob was vandalising our vehicles, because one of our buses knocked someone down on the corridor and we quickly informed the Traffic Division of the Owutu Police Station and its personnel were dispatched in the area. 
 
“When we got there, we learnt that the husband had taken the corpse to the morgue. But during our investigation, we realised that the busman had parked his bus in front of our office and left the engine running, instead of parking it at the right place. 
 
“So, we started searching for the busman, but he was nowhere to be found and that was how we realised that it was the busman, who knocked down the woman. 
 
“The driver is still at large and we are working with the police to get him arrested. We have also taken the bus to the police station.”

The Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has captured a vehicle with COVID-19 sticker used for smuggling frozen chicken into the country. 
 
The unit in a statement said it also intercepted other illegal  goods worth N12.7bn between January and April. 
 
Customs Area Controller of the unit, Usman Yahaya, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer, FOU, Zone ‘A’ Jerry Attah, said that the officers intercepted the vehicle while trying to smuggle cartons of  frozen chicken into the country from the Benin Republic. 
 
Yahaya said the vehicle was arrested along Ijebu Ode expressway.

He also revealed that they were intercepted based on intelligence reports and the efforts of eagle-eyed officers who were on routine patrol along the axis. 
 
He said, “The officers were professional enough to intercept the vehicle which was believed to be used in the movement of essential commodities but they were surprised to see that it was used for illegal activities such as movement of contraband. 
 
“We have arrested the vehicle and investigation has commenced to get to the root of the matter and unravel other atrocities that may have been committed using the essential duty tag.” 
 
Speaking on the activities of the command in the last four months, Yahaya said contraband worth N12.7bn was intercepted between January and April. 
 
According to him, the unit also paid N1.14bn into the Treasury Single Account of the Federal Government from debit notes on intercepted containers from Lagos seaport; voluntary payment of Customs duty on vehicles; auction sales from petrol, among others. 
 
Giving a breakdown of the confiscations, he said 25 units of used vehicles worth N108m; 5,644 cartons of frozen chicken worth N54.1m; 9,843 bags of 50kg smuggled parboiled rice worth N130.4m and sacks of textile materials worth N94m. 
 
Others are N14m worth of used tyres; 3,764 kegs of smuggled vegetable oil worth N69.2m; 8,365 litres of smuggled petrol and diesel worth N35m. 
 
The Customs boss said, “We won’t relent on our anti-smuggling fight especially at this time the government is preaching diversification into the agric sector due to the fall in price of oil in the international market, which has affected government revenue base. 
 
“So, we will ensure that smuggling is reduced to the barest minimum and we will not allow it to fester as that could be injurious to our economy and well-being as a country.”

The thirty-six State Governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF have resolved to as a matter of urgency, engage the Federal Government to ensure that the governance arrangement of all federation-funded investments recognise State governments as shareholders in the distribution of proceeds from the recovered stolen funds as well as in the decision making process. 
 
Rising from the 8th COVID-19 Teleconference meeting under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, the governors expressed concerns about the ownership and distribution of proceeds from recovered looted funds and accounts or investments funded as the first-line charge from the federation account. 
 
A statement signed by the NGF Chairman and Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi read in part, “Following an update on the rising trend of deductions from revenues accruable to the federation account available for distribution to the three tiers of government, the Governors noted the threat this poses on the fiscal capacity of States to respond to the demands of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
 
“Members also raised concern about the ownership and distribution of proceeds from recovered looted funds and accounts or investments funded as first-line charge from the federation account. The Forum agreed to engage with the federal government to ensure that the governance arrangement of all federation-funded investments recognize State governments as shareholders in the distribution of proceeds and decision making.”

The governors have also set up a Committee that would interface with the federal government on the next Medium-term National Development Plan that would help mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus, COVID-19 crisis. 
 
Consequently, the governors have set up a Committee made up Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; Bala Mohammed of Bauchi; Abubakar Atiku of Kebbi; Simon Lalong of Plateau; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia to engage the federal government on the next Medium-term National Development Plan. 
 
The Communique read: “The Forum has followed with interest, the development of the 12-month Economic Sustainability Plan by the federal government, which is designed to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. 
 
In the spirit of developing a truly coordinated national response to the crisis, Governors expressed the importance of greater consultation and collaboration between the federal and state governments on development planning. A Committee was consequently set up to interface with the federal government on the next Medium-term National Development Plan. The Committee is made up of the Governors of Bauchi, Plateau, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Ekiti. 
 
“A second Committee comprising the Governors of Gombe, Nasarawa, Delta, Ebonyi, Oyo and Kaduna was established to steer the activities of the NGF-NESG Economic Roundtable (NNER) – a sub-national platform of the NGF and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group created to promote sub-national competitiveness through public-private collaboration.”

Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, has kicked against the bill to make COVID-19 vaccines compulsory in Nigeria. 
 
The bill was co-sponsored by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, Reps Pascal Obi and Tanko Sununu. 
 
Gbajabiamila’s Bill has since generated a lot of  diverse reactions, with critics saying that some of the provisions in the bill appear “draconian.”

During the Church’s communion live broadcast, Oyedepo said gang-up agents of the devil were trying to bring a flood of evil upon humanity. 
 
He further added that something evil was being plotted by some individuals and that people perpetrating it don’t know why. 
 
He said, “You must take a vaccine! Why will you force me to take a vaccine? For what? 
 
“You don’t take vaccines, you don’t go outside the country! How? Where is it coming from? 
 
“Evil scheming of evil men, gang up of agents of the devil, trying to bring a flood of evil upon humanity. And now from the vaccine: autism; from the vaccine: higher mortality rate of deaths.” 
 
The Bishop, however, maintained that anything that troubled God’s agenda will be troubled, adding that his outcry over the closure of churches was for the kingdom of God. 
 
“It’s over!! Whatever troubles God’s agenda will be troubled. The most valuable asset to God is the human life. 
 
“If you see me screaming and crying: it’s for the Kingdom, absolutely so. You mean you keep God’s people, block their access to spiritual food for 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks and you are going to the market, buying and eating with 10 fingers. You kept students from school. 
 
“This is an imported virus, how has it become our own? Why must we now have it? 
 
“There is something going on here! Something evil is being schemed by some individuals and those who are perpetrating it don’t even know,” he further stated.

Three undercover training camps operated by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB at Ibusa, Okpanam, and Illah communities of Delta state have been busted by the police. 
 
Some members of the group who were paraded before newmen on Wednesday May 13, were accused of snatching and robbing police officers of their rifles since 2018. A skull of a victim which was recovered from one of the IPOB camps, was displayed during the parade. 
 
Delta Police Commissioner, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa said some of the IPOB members allegedly involved in killing of policemen at various points and snatching of 16 rifles which belongs to the Nigerian Police Force, were arrested following a tip-off. 
 
Among those arrested are Ejiofor Odili a.k.a Bishop 45 years old, a native of Anambra State, Sunday Okah, 37 yrs of Ebonyi State, Ashaka Sunday, 33 yrs from Delta, Chukwudi Nwoba ,28 yrs Ebonyi State, Onyeka Ezinna, 29 yrs, Chima Victor Ekene, 26 yrs.

Chukwudi Okpara ,a.k.a Zion 35 yrs ,Imo State, Maxwell Ishiguzo a.k.a AK 2 36 yrs, Abia State, Christian Ndiogulu a.k.a Tiger 44 yrs, Ibusa,Delta and Chibuike Uyamadu, 28 yrs native of Agulere, Anambra State. 
 
Inuwa said confessional statements from some of the key suspects, led to the recovery of rifles and ammunition at Ugwu-Nwosu Camp, one of the three IPOB camps in Delta State. The recovered rifles include 10 AK-47s with breech numbers 109003, 533353, 009981, 59280, 26240, 06515, 4837, 6466, 2581 and 340967. 10 magazine and 200 rounds of AK-47 ammunition were also recovered. 
 
The police commissioner further disclosed that one of the suspects, Christian Ndiogulu led operatives to IPOB training camp at Ibusa where one AK47 with its magazine and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition snatched from safer highway patrol team along Ogwashi/Kwale road in January this year, was recovered from where they were buried in the camp. 
 
Two other suspects also led operatives to Idumugo forest in Okpanam where two AK47 rifles, one smoke gun, one smoke canister, four AK47 magazines, 212 7.62mm AK47 ammunition, one MP3, a set of Allen keys and one hand bag were recovered. 
 
Inuwa said: “Following recent series of attack on policemen at nipping points and snatching of police rifles by suspected members of outlawed IPoB in Asaba, the command’s sustained efforts in the investigation of the attacks and snatching of police rifles and ammunition in the state yielded desired results when some principal suspects with strong link to the proscribed IPoB were arrested and made confessional statements. 
 
“After a diligent and painstaking investigation, on April 5 at about 2015 hours, while acting on the confession of the arrested key principal suspects, police detectives recovered the following arms and ammunition snatched from policemen from Ugwunwosu Camp of the proscribed IPoB- 10 AK-47 rifles with breech numbers 109003, 533353, 59280, 26240, 06515, 4837, 6466, 2581, 340967, 10 magazines with 200 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. 
 
“Also on April 24 at about 1230 hours, one of the suspects, Christian led police operatives to the proscribed IPoB training camp at Ibusa, where one AK-47 rifle with breech number BA 354592, with its magazine and 26 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition robbed from Safer Highway Patrol team, along Ogwashi-Uku-Kwale road, by Obasanjo Farms on January 23, 2020 was recovered from where buried in the camp. 
 
“Similarly, on April 29, at about 2340 hours, two of the suspects led the operatives to Idumogi forest in Okpanam where the following robbed police arms were recovered from where buried, two AK-47 rifles with breech Nos. 60037 and 3891, one smoke gunner with breech number 2849197, one smoke canister, four AK-47 magazines, 212 (7.62 mm) AK-47 ammunition, one MP3, a set of Allen keys and one handbag. 
 
“Meanwhile, a total of 13 police AK-47 rifles with ammunition robbed during attacks on policemen in the state, over the years, have been recovered. Investigation is still in progress.”

The COVID-19 lockdown has meant that the race for this year’s Eunisell Boot remains under wraps, though the battle for the biggest individual prize in Nigeria’s top division is expected to resume soon. 
 
Rangers forward Israel Abia is the frontrunner with 12 goals and on his heels are Ndifreke Effiong of Akwa United, Auwalu Ali of Kano Pillars and Plateau United’s Ibrahim Mustapha on 11 goals apiece while Enyimba’s Victor Mbaoma is on nine goals. 
 
But top league writer Fisayo Dairo believes only three of the five players are frontrunners in the Eunisell Boot race including Abia, Effiong and Mbaoma. 
 
He said: “The front runners for me will be the trio of Israel Abia, Ndifreke Effiong and Victor Mbaoma.

“Abia because he was already settling in perfectly at Rangers and Effiong also because he seems to have mastered how to score in the nooks and crannies of the league venues. 
 
“For Mbaoma, Enyimba have now gelled under Fatai Osho, his manager when he was one of the top scorers three years ago. 
 
“I believe with the number of chances that Enyimba create each game, especially from someone like Cyril Olisema, Mbaoma and Dimgba, Mbaoma will still score plenty more goals before the season ends,” Dairo said. 
 
But Auwalu cannot be dismissed as making up the number since he has been Kano Pillars’ main striker and scored five in his last three matches before the lockdown. 
 
With the League Management Company (LMC), a few days ago stating its plans to restart the top division and run it within six to eight weeks following the lockdown by the outbreak of COVID-19 in Nigeria, the battle to claim the Eunisell Boot this year will take shape as the run-in to the season looms.

The Nigerian Governors Forum has asked the National Assembly to step down the Infectious Disease Bill to allow for wider consultations with stakeholders. 
 
It also set up a three-member committee made up of governors Aminu Masari (Katsina), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Simon Lalong (Plateau) to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly over the issue.

This was contained in a communique signed by the Chairman of the forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State after the 8th COVID-19 teleconference meeting of the NGF held on Wednesday. 
 
The Communique was issued on Thursday. 
 
It read in part, “Following an update from the Governor of Sokoto State and Vice Chairman of the NGF, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on the proposed Control of Infectious Diseases Bill, 2020 introduced by the House of Representatives, Governors raised concern with the lack of consultation with State governments who are at the forefront of the epidemic. 
 
“The Forum resolved that the Bill should be stepped down until an appropriate consultative process is held, including a public hearing to gather public opinion and concerns. 
 
“In the light of this, the Forum established a Committee comprising the Governors of Katsina, Sokoto, and Plateau to lead a consultative meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly on the proposed Control of Infectious Diseases Bill, 2020. The NGF Secretariat was also mandated to comprehensively review the Bill and its implication on States.” 
 
The governors, who also expressed concerns over the rising cases of the COVID-19 infections across the nation, resolved to among other things, work in collaboration with the Dangote Foundation to set up and train a volunteer health workforce and increase the tempo of setting up isolation centres. 
 
They also resolved to make available additional warehouses to store palliatives donated by the private sector and ensure that such donations get to the most vulnerable in each state. 
 
After receiving a briefing from Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, the governors also resolved to strengthen on the operation of the World Bank States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability ]project which is supporting a strong pro-poor fiscal response to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, 
 
The governors also agreed to take additional measures to strengthen their public financial management systems, including a revision of their 2020 budgets and the amendment of State procurement guidelines to support e-procurement and the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises.

A 98-year-old woman has survived the deadly COVID-19 infection in Lagos as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also announced the discharge of 26 COVID-19 patients from three isolation centres in the state. 
 
Sanwo-Olu revealed that among them was a 98-year-old woman. 
 
He noted that the patients were released from the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba; Onikan isolation centre and Lagos University Teaching Hospital isolation centre, adding that they had all been reunited with the society.

The governor said they were discharged after testing negative for COVID-19 in two consecutive readings. 
 
He said, “Today, we discharged a 98-year-old woman, our oldest COVID-19 patient in Lagos. She joined 25 others; 13 males and 12 females, discharged from our isolation centres after testing negative for COVID-19, bringing the total of our successfully managed and discharged patients to 528. 
 
“As our front-line health workers continue to sacrifice and push through, let us play our roles by following the public health guidelines, observing physical distancing and wearing our face masks.”

Former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe has revealed drugs used to treat him while he battled COVID-19. 
 
Okupe had announced on his Facebook page, that on the 23rd of April, he and his wife, Aduralere tested positive to COVID-19 and that on the same day, they were moved to the isolation ward facilities in Sagamu. 
 
They later survived the deadly Coronavirus disease and were discharged after spending about two weeks in the isolation ward.

However, Okupe has given an update on his recovery, by disclosing drugs used to cure him of the virus on his official Twitter page. 
 
He tweeted: “My medications for Covid-19. Hydroxychloroquine 400mg twice daily for 2days then 400mg daily for 3days. 
 “Azithromycin 500mg fly, Zinc sulphate 100mg dly. VitzC 1200mg daily.” 
 He added that “I supported with a mixture of ginger, garlic, tumeric and lemon. 
 “There is no global consensus among the scientists or medical experts on any one treatment regime. No credible scientific research document is presently available or acceptable 4 treatment of COVID-19. 
 “Key factor is the immune status of the patient. Boost your immunity with known supplements.” 
 
He, therefore, warned against self-medication saying; “If u must take hydroxychloroquine pl speak 2 yr doctor to confirm if u hv any cardiac ARRHYTHMIAS. If u do u need close monitoring b4 embarking on d use of this drugs.90 to 95% of infected patients will go thru even without hospitalization.90%+of young people will survive attack.”
