Up till 1 am in the early hours of Thursday, more than three hours after their arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos from South Africa, Richard Simon was full of life. He and his peers aged between four and six played gleefully inside the lighted pilgrims’ hall of the airport, racing against one another to catch a small round plastic object one of them threw up into the air. They showed no sign of sleeping soon.<br />
<br />
Most of them are beginners in South African schools and could barely keep memories of the harsh treatment they and their parents went through in the Rainbow country in the wake of xenophobic attacks. To them, a return to their fatherland came with no hard feelings – at least for now. “I am happy to be here,” Simon quipped in response to our correspondent’s question as he ran after his playmate, Sandra, five, who was also chasing after the object.<br />
<br />
But for older ones who are in their teens, returning home is a mixed tale of excitement and sadness, just as it is for their parents. While the parents lived in fears of imminent attacks by South African mobs, the children grappled with frequent discrimination among their native classmates who saw them as strangers.<br />
<br />
Since xenophobia became pronounced in the country about three years ago, Ogechi Maduagwu, a Grade 8 pupil in Johannesburg, has been struggling hard to cope with the growing trauma of racism at the school that should have shielded her from social oppression. “My classmates from South Africa talk down to Nigerian pupils. They are racists. Anytime, we have a little misunderstanding and they are moody, they would tell us, ‘Go back to your country. We don’t need you here!’ It was that bad! She exclaimed, mimicking her bullies.<br />

To her and many Nigerian pupils evacuated to the country on Wednesday night, it was a big break from the manacles of repression and the dawn of a new life. “I am happy to come back home,” the 13-year-old native of Imo State said amid hearty smiles.<br />
<br />
Ogechi could not hide her excitement as she posed for photographs with her siblings, Ijoma, 16 and nine-year-old Ngozi, who are also returnees. With their relatives waiting outside the premises to receive them after documentation, they were elated that they would now live among the people who love and care for them.<br />
<br />
She said, “I will miss my teachers and my friends from other countries. It’s sad for me to leave South Africa because of the quality of education I had there. But what is important is my safety. I was on scholarship which I had to forfeit because of this crisis. It’s really, really painful.”<br />
<br />
Her elder sister, Ijoma, a Grade 11 pupil, confirmed the toxic relationship they endured in school at the hands of their South African counterparts. Other than the country’s educational system which she described as “perfect,” Ijoma had no regret relocating to Nigeria in the heat of dehumanising treatments she frequently went through.<br />
<br />
“The crisis in town and the discrimination in my school have become unbearable. So my parents decided that my sisters and I should come back home to continue with our studies. We live in Johannesburg with our parents. People are dying and their shops are burnt. Our parents are still in South Africa. They will soon join us,” she revealed.<br />
<br />
Chubby and cheerful, Oyinkansola Ogunfolaji sat on a long steel chair in the hall devouring a plate of rice she and other returnees were served. Like Ogechi and Ijoma, the 12-year-old Ogun State indigene was a victim of verbal assault in school. According to the Grade 7 pupil, the past three years of her schooling in Mabopane, a suburb of Pretoria, came with painful memories she could not easily erase.<br />
<br />
Aside from her class teacher and her best friend whom she would probably miss dearly because of their role in mitigating the impact of the racist slurs on her, parting ways with her South African classmates was a moment she had wished, long before now.<br />
<br />
“I was discriminated against because I am a Nigerian. It was only two people I could rely on in school – my class teacher and my best friend, who are South Africans. Any time a South African classmate bullied me, I looked up to them. They would give me good advice. My classmates would tell me they don’t need me in their country and that I should go back to my home (in Nigeria). They would say I am too black to be in South Africa,” she lamented, almost in tears.<br />
<br />
Despite learning in such an unfriendly environment, the teenage girl did not let the resentment affect her studies. She consistently found inner strength amidst the rising hatred and devised intellectual means to get back at her oppressors.<br />
<br />
“So far, I have won nine awards in subjects including Afrikaans, English, Mathematics, Economics and Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Life Skills. I feel bad because no one would remember me for my achievements and it would be like all my hard work has gone down the drain.<br />
<br />
“Now that I am in Nigeria, I will try my best to cope here. My dad is not back yet. He wants to take care of our property there. We have a house and two cars. He has a shop where he sells refrigerators. He wants to sell everything because of the attacks so that he could also relocate back to Nigeria,” she added.

The burial of Zimbabwe’s former president, Robert Mugabe, will be held at the National Heroes Acre sometime in October, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Friday.<br />
<br />
It was previously agreed that there would be a symbolic burial on Sunday in the hilltop shrine in Harare, reserved for the country’s ruling elite, but family spokesman, Leo Mugabe, told reporters this plan had now been cancelled.<br />
<br />
The body will now go to Mugabe’s hometown of Zvimba on Sunday for traditional funeral rituals to be carried out before the burial.<br />
<br />
Mugabe will be buried in October after a mausoleum at the National Heroes Acre has been completed, Mnangagwa said.<br />

The confirmation comes after disagreements between the family and the government about where the former leader should be buried.<br />
<br />
The family initially said they would prefer to honour Mugabe’s wishes and have him buried next to his mother in his rural home in Kutama, about 85 kilometres from Harare.<br />
<br />
They then agreed to the symbolic funeral on Sunday in the hope that the real burial would take place at a later date, giving them time to carry out the traditional rituals.<br />
<br />
An official memorial ceremony is planned for Saturday at the 60,000-seater National Sports Stadium with a number of African leaders and former leaders expected to attend.<br />
<br />
Mugabe’s body was returned to Zimbabwe on Wednesday from Singapore, where he died at the age of 95.<br />
<br />
He had been seeking treatment there for an undisclosed illness since April.<br />
<br />
He was deposed in a 2017 coup after nearly four decades in power.<br />
<br />
Still revered by some for his fight against white domination as a former liberation fighter, he is widely despised by others who see him as responsible for destroying Zimbabwe’s economy and violently oppressing any opposition.

Former Nigeria goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama, has thrown the door open to a possible return to the Super Eagles.<br />

Enyeama quit international football after making a record 101 appearances for Nigeria in 2015.<br />

The 37-year-old is, however, having a second thought and said in an interview with Brila FM on Friday that should the country call for his services, he would oblige them.<br />
<br />
“I cannot say no to Nigeria, that’s the truth,” Enyeama said.<br />
<br />
“If Nigeria tells me today ‘Vincent, we have goalkeeping problem; we need you’, I will be there. I can’t say no.<br />

Following his bitter retirement from the national team in 2015 after falling out with former coach Sunday Oliseh, the former Lille goalkeeper also said that no one from the NFF has reached out to ask him to overturn his decision and return to the Eagles.<br />

<br />
Enyeama has been without a club since August 2018 when his contract with French side Lille was terminated by mutual consent but had a failed trial with another Ligue 1 outfit, Dijon, two months ago.

More facts have emerged on the bottlenecks which nearly frustrated the evacuation of 313 Nigerians from South Africa by the Air Peace Boeing 777 aircraft on Wednesday.<br />

The flight which was scheduled for 9 am did not depart the OR Tambo International Airport until 4 pm, following various obstacles reportedly imposed by the South African airport and immigration officials.<br />
<br />
The plane eventually arrived in Nigeria with 178 persons at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos at 9.34 pm.<br />
<br />
Investigation revealed that Pretoria was not happy over the evacuation operation which senior Foreign Affairs Ministry officials described as “a yellow card to Nigeria-South Africa relations.”<br />

This, it was gathered, was seen by SA authorities as a thumbs down, hence the decision to mount impediments to frustrate the evacuation exercise.<br />
<br />
Our correspondent gathered on Friday that 84 Nigerians had boarded the aircraft at the Johannesburg airport when the SA immigration officials announced that they must carry out a biometric capture of all returning individuals.<br />
<br />
It was learnt that all the people on board were deplaned for the biometric exercise with the immigration officials spending about 10 minutes to capture each person.<br />
<br />
Officials who participated in the clearance process at the airport explained that the immigration service cancelled valid South African visas possessed by Nigerians during the biometric exercise.<br />
<br />
It was learnt that the biometrics was a smokescreen to blacklist Nigerians leaving the country over xenophobic attacks which Pretoria has strenuously denied.<br />
<br />
An official said, “When you are evacuating your citizens from a country, it is like sending a strong message to that country about your relations with them. No country would be happy with the evacuation of foreign nationals from its territory.<br />
<br />
“South Africans were very strategic. We arrived at Joburg by 6.15 am. The intention was to leave by 9 am, but after clearing about 85 out of the 313 who were scheduled for airlifting, they insisted they should do biometric capture for those who were willing to leave.<br />
<br />
“So, they had to come down from the plane and start the clearance process afresh. Now, there are reports that if they capture your biometrics and you leave, you won’t be allowed into South Africa again or you may be barred from visiting for at least 10 years.<br />
<br />
“So, some Nigerians who planned to come to Nigeria to relax for some time and then go back eventually decided to stay back for fear of being barred from visiting South Africa, where they have investments and families.”<br />
<br />
It was further gathered that some women who wished to leave with their children were asked to present letters of consent from their husbands.<br />
<br />
Many of them who could not provide the letters were also said to have gone back home after spending several hours at the airport.<br />
<br />
A ministry official said those who had elected to stay back following the new conditions imposed by the SA immigration were about 135.<br />
<br />
He stated, “The immigration asked those who were travelling with children to present letters of consent from their spouses. If they didn’t have the consent letter, they would not allow the children to leave with the mother.<br />
<br />
“Initially, it was 313 persons who were billed to come back with the flight, but 135 went back. They included those who were travelling with children without letters of consent and those who did not want to do the biometrics so that they wouldn’t be barred from returning to South Africa again.”<br />
<br />
Our correspondent was also informed that the representative of Geoffrey Onyema, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was barred from accessing the cargo wing of the OR Tambo International Airport by security officials.<br />
<br />
When asked if the SA officials informed their Nigerian counterparts about the rationale for the biometrics of the returnees, another official said, “There was no formal announcement to this effect, but there were reports that anyone who left may be barred from visiting South Africa for life or for at least 10 years.<br />
<br />
“The credibility of the report was strengthened when the immigration officials were cancelling valid visas, as they were clearing those with valid travel documents.<br />
<br />
“Even if you have one or two years visa, it was cancelled, and this means you have to apply afresh and it may be difficult for you to get the visa again. Nigerian officials were frustrated. The Minister of Foreign Affairs sent an official to represent him at the airport, but the person was not allowed access to the cargo wing for a long time.”<br />
<br />
Findings also showed that the Nigerian Consulate contributed to the rowdy situation at the airport as they did not give the emergency travel documents to those with expired passports until they got to the airport.<br />
<br />
The MFA officials explained that the Mission had been advised to distribute the travel certificates to the next batch of returnees who needed them at the consulate ahead of time to ease the departure process at the airport.<br />
<br />
The next batch was expected to be airlifted on Saturday or Sunday from Joburg to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.<br />
<br />
Giving an update on the operation, the Chairman, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri- Erewa, said the Consul-General of Nigerian Mission in Johannesburg was already addressing the issues with the SA government.<br />
<br />
Dabiri-Erewa added, “Because of the serious hurdles put in place by the SA authorities on this first evacuation, we will have to wait for an update from the consulate as they resolve some issues with the SA authorities. The next flight maybe Saturday or Sunday.<br />
<br />
“However, Chairman Air Peace, says the airline is on standby and ready for more evacuations anytime.”<br />
<br />
The returnees would also get a soft loan from the Bank of Industry to support those interested in trade.<br />
<br />
When contacted last night about the ordeal faced by Nigerians at the airport, the acting SA High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Bobby Moroe, simply said, “I am currently in Abuja and not privy to what transpired in South Africa during the transfer of Nigerian nationals from South Africa to Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“You may wish to contact the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ascertain the facts around this matter.”<br />
<br />
The MFA spokesman, Ferdinand Nwonye, could not be reached for comment on what the FG would do about the reported travel ban imposed on Nigerians by SA, as he was said to be outside the country.<br />
<br />
A text message sent to the minister, Onyeama,  on the issue had yet to elicit a response as of the time of filing this report.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, says living outside Kaduna State will not save people from prosecution if they spread fake news about his state.<br />

El-Rufai said this at the launch of a book titled, ‘Digital Wealth”, by blogger, Japheth Omojuwa, in Abuja on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
According to the governor, both persons who tweet fake news and those who re-tweet risk being arrested if the effect of the fake news leads to loss of life or pandemonium.<br />
<br />
He noted that social media could be used for good and also for evil and thus it would be wrong to look at only the negative sides.<br />

El-Rufai added, “We should not confuse freedom of expression with freedom to kill. If you tweet something that is fake or you tweet something that is reckless without checking and it leads to the death of people, then you deserve to be tried at least as an accessory before or after the fact of murder.<br />
<br />
“In Kaduna State, we have done that very aggressively because there are things that have been put on social media that have led to the death of people. So, we take it very seriously. You cannot sit in Port Harcourt or Lagos and start posting stuff that leads to societal instability in Kaduna and we let you go.<br />
<br />
“We will file charges, we will go and collect you (sic) from Port Harcourt or Lagos and bring you before a judge in Kaduna and the judge will decide whether you are guilty. We’ve done that two or three times. The people we have done this to are still being prosecuted.”<br />
<br />
The governor, however, promised that he would not interfere in court processes.<br />
<br />
“If you want to tweet something about Kaduna, be very careful because I am watching,” he warned.<br />
<br />
El-Rufai said he had been duly elected to protect the lives of 10 million people and would therefore not watch the state crumble due to fake news.<br />
<br />
He said the state also has strong laws against such cyber recklessness.<br />
<br />
The governor, who himself was accused of making hate speech in the last election and in 2015, is no stranger to controversy.<br />
<br />
During the run-up to the 2019 election, he threatened that any foreigner that interfered in Nigeria’s elections would leave in a body bag, therefore, sparking reports that he was among those placed on a visa ban by the United States.<br />
<br />
His government also sued a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, who had accused El-Rufai of exaggerating the killings in Kajuru for political gain.<br />
<br />
In 2017, Audu Maikori, the chief executive of record company, Chocolate City, was arrested by the police on charges of incitement based on a petition by the Kaduna State Government attributed to his tweet on killings in a town in southern Kaduna.<br />
<br />
Maikori later retracted and apologised saying the information was false.

Contrary to an earlier position that he was not bothered by the proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, President Muhammadu Buhari confessed on Friday he was under tension while the tribunal delivered its judgment on Wednesday.<br />
<br />
Buhari admitted that but for the first meeting of the Federal Executive Council, which he presided over about the same time the tribunal sat, he would have gone into trauma.<br />
<br />
Buhari and cabinet ministers for his second term met for the first time on Wednesday since he inaugurated them on August 21.<br />
<br />
Coincidentally, the tribunal sat and delivered its judgment the same day, which went in Buhari’s favour.<br />

<br />
According to Buhari, who spoke when he received the All Progressives Congress state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, he used the FEC meeting to absorb pressure.<br />
<br />
Buhari told the governors, “On this judgment, again it was a fabulous coincidence that it came almost the same time the first FEC meeting of this government was taking place.<br />
<br />
“It lasted about the same time with the judgment. I thank God for that because I think I would have gone into trauma or something. So, I was busy trying to concentrate on the memos. The first memo was on the budget and it took more than five hours. So, while you were doing your thing (judgment) for nine hours, we were doing ours (FEC meeting) for about seven hours here. It is a very interesting coincidence and I thank God for it because I would have been in trauma or something of that sort.”<br />
<br />
His confession went contrary to the boastful disposition of the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, who had consistently stated up until Friday that neither Buhari nor the APC entertained any fears that the judgment would be won by the President.<br />
<br />
Similarly, a State House statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, had claimed that Buhari was “unperturbed.”<br />
<br />
The statement quoted the President thus, “Good conscience fears no evil report. I was unperturbed all along because I knew Nigerians freely gave us the mandate. We are now vindicated.”<br />
<br />
The confession by Buhari on Friday might indicate that the earlier statement by the media office did not originate from the President or that he knew nothing about it.<br />
<br />
Buhari, who also made a veiled reference to the controversy surrounding his not producing his WAEC certificate, recalled how in military school, his commanders promoted him without written examinations, because they were convinced his training for war sufficed.<br />
<br />
Incidentally, Oshiomhole was part of Friday’s meeting with Buhari and he spoke ahead of the President.<br />
<br />
Like he did on Wednesday and Thursday, Oshiomhole again repeated before the President that nobody in the APC harboured any fears about the certainty of victory.<br />
<br />
“We never had any doubts that you won the election. You led the opponent with over four million votes.<br />
<br />
“So, we had no reason to be worried at all”, he said.<br />
<br />
Oshiomhole also said the party was happy that the tribunal dispensed with the issues raised by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, including Buhari’s WAEC certificate.<br />
<br />
He added, “There was an attempt to doubt your integrity when they said that you did not attend secondary school. The PDP made so much issue out of this; but, we are happy that the issues have been trashed by the tribunal.<br />
<br />
“We never had doubts that you won your votes. All the issues raised by our opponents were trashed out one after the order by the Justices that sat on the panel.”<br />
<br />
In his contribution, the Chairman of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu, congratulated Buhari on behalf of the APC governors.<br />
<br />
Atiku-Bagudu, who is the governor of Kebbi State, said, “This removed doubts from anybody’s mind,” adding that the governors were surprised that the President was able to preside over the FEC meeting while the judgment was being delivered.<br />
<br />
“We were even surprised that you were busy presiding over FEC meeting that day, which meant that you were not distracted”, Atiku-Bagudu stated.<br />
<br />
But, Buhari’s admission of being really shaken all through the duration of the judgment overruled Oshiomhole and the governors’ views on the impact of the judgment.

A commercial motorcycle rider, Kingsley Madukwe has beaten his wife; Glory Madukwe, to death for refusing to breastfeed her crying one-month-old baby.<br />

The incident happened on Wednesday night at the Egando, Atan – Ota, area of Ogun State.<br />
<br />
The traditional ruler (Baale) of the area, Chief Rafiu Gbadamosi reported it to the Police and it was learnt that the couple had a minor misunderstanding and in the ensuing disagreement, Ndukwe beat his wife to death at about 11:30 pm.<br />
<br />
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect in a release, stated that the Divisional Police Officer, Atan Ota Division, Salau Abiodun led detectives to effect arrest on the suspect.<br />

Abimbola; a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) added that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has given directive for the transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and intelligence Department.<br />

“On interrogation, the suspect an Okada rider who is an indigene of Ihiala in Anambra State, stated that his late wife and mother of eight, was having a month old baby and that the baby was crying which made him to wake his wife up to breastfeed the baby, but she refused claiming that she was too tired to breastfeed the baby at that time.<br />
<br />
“He stated that the victim got up and was going to the sitting room leaving the baby behind and this got him annoyed, consequent upon which he drew her back and gave her a hot slap. The woman then fell down and gave up the ghost.<br />
<br />
“The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the General Hospital Ota mortuary for post mortem examination.”

The Nigerian Air Force said on Friday its surveillance aircraft had uncovered a training camp used by the Islamic State West African Province terrorists in Mallam Fatori area on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno State.<br />
<br />
NAF noted that the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, the military anti-insurgency operation in the North-East, thereafter deployed its fighter aircraft to bomb the training facility, killing the occupants.<br />

According to the military, the operation was executed on Wednesday after “credible intelligence reports and confirmatory Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions” identified the training camp.<br />

The air force in a statement on Friday said the camp was being used by ISWAP to indoctrinate and train new fighters.<br />
<br />
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said, “The Air Task Force recorded another feat with the destruction of an ISWAP training camp near Mallam Fatori on the fringes of Lake Chad.<br />
<br />
“The ATF dispatched its aircraft to attack the location, which upon arrival over the target area, observed significant activities of the terrorists. The attack aircraft scored devastating hits on the building, completely destroying it and neutralising the ISWAP occupants.”

“But then suddenly, news came over the radio that the students of the University of Ibadan had gathered all the brethren from the East and were determined to hold them until everybody from Western Region in our university had returned home.<br />
<br />
“Immediately, everything changed! All our friends from the Eastern Region began to hold meetings as to how to keep all of us who were from other Regions in the East until the return of all of their own brothers.“In my life, I can could count three or four occasions when I had known fear in the real sense of the word. I knew it that day!<br />

“There was a man among us from Ekiti, who was noted for expensive jokes.<br />
While we were trembling in fear, he said: “Well, my own case is simple, my wife has just had a son, if I die now, nobody will say I never came into the world.’

Nigeria Consul General in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, has explained the difficulties in the evacuation process and said no Nigerian was arrested in the cause of the evacuation of those who voluntarily wish to leave South Africa following xenophobic attacks on them.<br />
<br />
Adama told News Agency of Nigeria through telephone in Abuja that no returnee was detained or refused to board flight on Wednesday by South African authorities.<br />
<br />
He said, though some had immigration problems, they were quickly fixed.<br />
<br />
The consul general added that what happened was that many of the returnees missed flights because of their uncoordinated attitudes.<br />

He said the delay in the evacuation process was caused by misplacement of travel documents as required by South Africa immigration laws.<br />
<br />
“Some will still tell you that they put their documents inside bags that had been checked into the plane; some even said that they had theirs stolen and all that.<br />
<br />
“Then others have issues of expired passports,’’ he said.<br />
<br />
Adama said the evacuation process was difficult, adding that the second batch flight had to be rescheduled to enable those who had issues with their documents to resolve it.<br />
<br />
“We did not transport anybody on Thursday.<br />
<br />
“We are waiting to prepare properly because we lost some spaces in the aircraft on Wednesday due to the attitudes of some of our people.<br />
<br />
“If you give instructions, they will not follow; calling them, they will not pick; even when they hear their names, they will not respond.<br />
<br />
“So, because of documentation, a lot of people missed the flight but nobody was detained.<br />
<br />
“Everybody that had issue with immigration was resolved and we ensured they all travelled.’’<br />
<br />
Adama, however, admitted that there were obstacles in the process and that there were hitches at one point or the other, but that the mission solved every problem and everybody travelled.<br />
<br />
The envoy explained that some of the returnees were interrogated by the immigration but the mission secured their release.<br />
<br />
He said that there was a case of a woman, who wanted to travel with children that were not her own, adding that the case was treated as that of human trafficking.<br />
<br />
“We equally resolved that too as the father of the children came to the airport for identification,’’ he said.<br />
<br />
He said that mission was working to ensure that all seats in the expected aircraft were occupied and that the manifest would be ready before the plane comes again.<br />
<br />
“We want to ensure that we have more than enough passengers as we do not want more seats to be empty.<br />
<br />
“We are liaising with the South African authorities too; we are putting up a joint meeting with the host immigration service and other protocols.<br />
<br />
“We are all on the same page before the next exercise.<br />
<br />
“The next batch of passengers will not be Friday because we are not prepared for that but we want to finalise and send them the manifest.’’<br />
<br />
He said that the mission had not given any time, but once it is finished, it would intimate the airline within 24 hours.

<div style="text-align: justify;">He said the act of smuggling of contrabands food items in to the country is playing a key role in destroying the county’s economy and Nigeria must work hard to curtail the problems.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“Federal Government is making efforts to improve Agriculture especially rice farming but the foreign rice been imported to the country massively through illegal borders is sabotaging government policies.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“Most of these rice are being imported by you on motorcycle through illegal borders,” Hamid Ali stated.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Oshiomhole was reacting to the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate, to challenge the judgment of the presidential election petition tribunal at the supreme court.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The tribunal had dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and Atiku challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential election.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Speaking with journalists at the state house after a meeting with Buhari on Thursday, Oshiomhole said he is confident that Atiku would lose even if he goes to the world court to challenge Buhari’s victory.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“So, I don’t want to sound arrogant. Yesterday (Wednesday), I said that I hoped this whole contest is about Nigeria, who actually won the election and both parties were committed to building Nigeria.  It’s not about who should be given the key.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“Now, this has been resolved and it is time to queue behind the winner and move on. Our winner is the best example that losing an election is not tantamount to the end of your political life. He lost three previous elections,  and today he is the president.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Oluwaleke Yisa, a homeless Nigerian, has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison for threatening to stab immigration officials in the United Kingdom.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">According to Daily Mail, Yisa, 30, walked into an immigration centre in London on August 20 with a large kitchen knife because he wanted to be deported, but his case was not treated as priority.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Yisa was reported to have lived seven years in London without a home.</div>

Elders drawn from the 16 communities in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Thursday, congregated at the village square (Obodo Amananta) at the Ngbo/Izziah Cultural Centre and called on the gods of the land to deal decisively with anyone involved in cultism, sponsoring war and other social vices in the area.<br />

Southern City News reports that penultimate week, some communities in the Ohaukwu LGA observed the disappearance of four youths and the killing of 10 persons by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.<br />

Speaking during the ceremony at the cultural centre, the Chairman of the council, Clement Odah, said the announcement was to ensure lasting peace, adding that they were working to make the communities safe.<br />
<br />
According to him, the elders of the clans and traditional rulers in the Ohaukwu LGA gathered to make a proclamation against anybody involved in cultism as well as promoting war and any form of bloodshed.<br />

Odah said, “It is to mark the climax of peace and security in the Ohaukwu LGA. A lot of things have been done. We have called several meetings; we have set up a lot of structures; we have campaigned and worked very hard to make sure that Ohaukwu becomes the safest local government area in Ebonyi State.<br />

“By the grace of God, apart from recent developments in the Agila/Ngbo axis, the local government area has become very peaceful. It is almost like a model. But we decided that we must test the sincerity of everybody.<br />
<br />
“We called for this traditional and spiritual ceremony. This place is called Obodo Amanata. It is not a place you will come and tell lies. It is a place where every man’s honesty is tested.<br />
<br />
“We have given proper warning. Not less than two months ago, we were singing it like a song. So, everybody is aware of it – the elders, traditional rulers and politicians. In fact, everybody is aware.”<br />
<br />
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ohaukwu Traditional Rulers’ Council, John Ogeh, noted that the spiritual exercise became necessary in order to rid the area of evil.<br />

Ogeh, the traditional ruler of the Okposhi Eheku community, stated, “As elders, we have a way of doing things and what we have done here today is to cleanse our land of all forms of social vices. We warned the residents to desist from doing evil and that the communities would gather for this ceremony.”

The Nigeria Football Federation has reinstated Salisu Yusuf to the national team after serving a one-year ban for receiving bribe.<br />
<br />
The NFF made this known in a press statement by its spokesperson, Ademola Olajire, on Thursday.<br />
<br />
Salisu was in August 2018 caught on camera accepting cash from men who posed as football agents to select two players for his Morocco 2018 African Nations Championship squad.<br />
<br />
He was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 by the federation after the NFF Ethics and Fair Play Committee ruled that the coach received   $1,000  from the men.<br />

<br />
Though the NFF didn’t state that Salisu would take over as the Eagles coach, the federation bade coach Imama Amapakabo farewell.<br />
<br />
Imama was Salisu’s assistant in the U-23 national team and the CHAN team before the ban.<br />
<br />
In the absence of Salisu, Imama led the U-23 Eagles to qualify for the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Sudan 5-0 in Asaba on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
With Salisu’s return, Imama is expected to return to his position as an assistant coach of the U-23 team.<br />
<br />
Announcing Salisu’s return on Thursday, NFF said, “The federation has noted that the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf, has now fully served the one-year suspension clamped on him last year.<br />
<br />
“The federation thanked coach Imama Amapakabo for his sterling efforts while in charge of the U-23 National Team in the absence of the suspended Yusuf, and for eventually seeing to the team’s qualification for the U-23 AFCON.”

<div style="text-align: justify;">Oshiohmole made this known when he responded to questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The PDP had on Wednesday vowed to appeal the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">However, the APC Chairman maintained that the same facts that gave President Buhari victory at the election tribunal would suffice at the Supreme Court.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“We are ready to meet them, President Buhari is ready to meet defeated Atiku Abubakar at the Supreme Court and the All Progressives Congress is ready to meet PDP at that court.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The APC chairman urged Atiku Abubakar and the entire members of the opposition party to forget about what happened at the polls and support Buhari to move Nigeria forward.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">According to him, the matter has been resolved and that it was time to queue behind the winner and move on.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, says the Federal Government is pressing for compensation for affected Nigerians in the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Dabiri-Erewa stated this at the maiden Diaspora Lecture of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The lecture was entitled: “Role of Africans in Diaspora in the Transformation of a University of Technology.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">Dabiri–Erewa, who was represented by Mr Abdul-Rahman Balogun, her Special Assistant on Media, noted that the Nigerian government was also putting in place measures to ensure perpetrators were prosecuted and justice is given.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">According to her, those that have been evacuated to Nigeria would be well taken care of.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Dabiri-Erewa also enjoined all state governments to create a Diaspora Desk, saying Nigeria has the highest diaspora potentials in Africa and the third in the world.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, and guest lecturer at the occasion, said Nigerian universities of technology should ensure that they have foreign students’ enrolment through scholarship programme for them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">Aluko, also a Special Adviser and Director-General, Office of Transformation, Strategy and Delivery Office in Ekiti, urged universities to sustain regular academic calendar.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">He also called for a conducive environment for learning in universities while parents should develop scientific mindset in their children.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">“We need to start to develop scientific minds in all our children. We should not stop them from being inquisitive and they should walk in groups because nobody achieves anything individually.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">” They should be given little problems to solve right from their primary school level,” he said.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">In his remarks, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, said that Africa was blessed with great human and material resources.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Fuwape noted that Nigerians in particular had continued to contribute immensely to the global economy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">He promised that FUTA would give fresh impetus to collaboration between researchers in Nigeria and abroad to promote national development.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">“This programme would assist us a great deal to identify gaps in transformation trajectory needed for Africa to take its pride of place in the comity of nations,” he added.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Dabiri-Erewa, Dr Mohammed Mustapha Lecky and Dr Babatope Agbeyo were given Goodwill Ambassador awards by FUTA management.</div>
