Buhari had left Nigeria on May 7th to meet up follow up consultation with his doctors in the United Kingdom.<br />
<br />
Stressing that there is tremendous improvement in his health, he said that he really wished to return home.<br />
<br />
He spoke while receiving the presidential media team, and the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at Abuja House, London, on Saturday.<br />
<br />
The team was led by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, accompanied by Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, and Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media.<br />
<br />
Buhari, in a statement issued by Adesina, said “But I’ve learnt to obey my doctor’s orders, rather than be the one issuing the orders. Here, the doctor is absolutely in charge.”<br />
<br />
When the team expressed delight at the much improved health of the President, he retorted: “I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I’ve now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed.”<br />
<br />
On how he felt hearing different conjectures about his health, an amused President Buhari said he followed events at home closely, lauding Nigerian television stations, and the media generally, for keeping him informed.<br />
<br />
When told that prayers were going on fervently for him, not only in Nigeria, but all over Africa, and round the world, a delighted President said: “What we did in The Gambia early this year fetched us a lot of goodwill on the African continent. It gave us a lot of latitude. I thank all those who are praying. May God reward them.”<br />
<br />
President Buhari, the statement said, sent appreciation to all Nigerians, expressing hope that he would be with them soon.

The development stunned many people who witnessed the drama which has generated reactions in<br />

Just as residents and passers-by were still expressing surprises on the incident,Oluwole attempted to slice his scrotum with razor blade in his hand before people around vehemently resisted his action.<br />
<br />
Symphatisers reportedly invited the police from “A” Division Police headquarters who promptly rushed him to the hospital where he is still receiving medical treatment.<br />
<br />
A witness,Olaolu Oluyede said Oluwole’s action caught residents of the area unaware saying”I was busy attending to a customer when someone called my attention to a well dressed man sitting on a bench close by.”<br />
<br />
“While people were still in a shock as to why a well dressed man will suddenly be putting off his clothes in public, he then did the worse by cutting his penis”.<br />
<br />
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph confirmed the incident.<br />
<br />
He added that preliminary investigation conducted by the police showed that the victim was suffering from both spiritual and psychological problems.<br />
<br />
Joseph said, the man in his statement said he heard a voice that directed him to cut his penis and he obeyed the directive.<br />
<br />
The PPRO said the victim had not committed any criminal offence, and therefore would not be prosecuted over the matter.

Recall that Governor Fayose had in June this year said that he would take presidential powers out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s hand to become Nigeria’s next president by contesting the 2019 presidential elections.<br />

In the statement, Fayose who spoke at a meeting with political office holders at the Government’s House, Ado Ekiti, where he also inspected Osoko Political Institute Centre, had also said that ““I have penchant for taking powers; that one in Buhari’s hand. I will take it. I’m going straight to that villa. I’m the next president.<br />
<br />
“I want to be the next president of Nigeria. My own won’t be this change that has brought nothing, we are going to represent the people well and tell them the truth.”<br />
<br />
Recall also that Fayose had earlier set his words to action in July when a Facebook page claimed to be one of his displayed his 2019 presidential campaign banner with the inscription, “Fayose for president 2019,” and a sub-slogan that read, “Strong, Reliable and Rugged.”<br />
<br />
The banner had Fayose’s pictorial drawing, with a pair of glasses to match and a friendly smile. It also had its major slogan reading, “Together, we can make Nigeria work again.”<br />
<br />
However, today’s public unveiling at the PDP’s national convention has further removed any doubt as to whether Oshokomole, as he is fondly called,  will wrestle presidential power with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.</div>

A President delegation led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Saturday condoled with Anambra Government over the August 6 attack on worshippers at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.<br />

Members of the team include Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah; Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama; and Minister of State for Environment, Mr. Ibrahim Jubrin.<br />
<br />
Handing over the two-page condolence message to Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by his deputy, Nkem Okeke, Ngige described the shooting as ‘unfortunate.’<br />
<br />
He said the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was deeply saddened by the news of the shooting and death of innocent worshippers, adding that he extended his deep sympathy to the government and people of Anambra.<br />
<br />
The minister assured the government of Anambra that the Federal Government would cooperate with the state government in the effort to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.<br />
<br />
“We have been delegated by the Acting President to come and condole with you on the sad shooting of innocent worshippers in Amakwa, Ozubulu, on August 6.<br />
<br />
“We are also going to visit the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Dr. Hillary Okeke, who is the shepherd were it happened, and we are also going to Amakwa to see things for ourselves.<br />
<br />
“He (Acting President) said we should reassure you that the Federal Government will cooperate with the state to fish out the perpetrators,” Ngige said.<br />
<br />
Responding, Obiano thanked the Federal Government for showing concern and sending the high-powered delegation, noting that it was not expected.<br />
<br />
Obiano said the incident was alien to the people of the state, as it had not happened anywhere around it before.<br />
<br />
He said some arrests had been made and that investigation was ongoing.</div>

The just concluded Non-Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja has extended the tenure of the party’s national caretaker committee.<br />

The tenure of the committee, which is headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi ended today.<br />
<br />
However, the convention extended its tenure by four months, saying that this would enable it to settle down and organise an elective national convention of the party later in the year.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">“No doubt, both your humble self and the members of ASLADD are all Biafrans. To this extent, it is therefore correct to state that no one man or group can lay claim to being more Biafran than the others.</div>

“He was not out fighting them. He was rescued by my sister who lives next to him.<br />

“She came outside screaming at the police, asking why they are beating people,” his brother, Charles Ochieng said, speaking on behalf of a dazed Oduor.<br />

More shooting was heard outside the hospital on Saturday morning. In Nairobi, armed police units backed by water cannon moved through the rubble-strewn streets of Kibera, another pro-Odinga slum.<br />

Interior minister Matiang’i defended the police against accusations of brutality.<br />

“Let us be honest – there are no demonstrations happening,” he told reporters.<br />

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo stated this at the 2017 Nigeria Civil Service Week Dinner and Award Night held at the old Presidential Banquet, Abuja, on Friday night.<br />

The acting President, who was represented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammad Bello, noted that nation’s civil servants had worked against all odds to drive government’s agenda in its efforts to meet the needs of Nigerians.<br />

He, therefore, challenged them to continue to work hard so as to achieve meaningful results in the implementation of the agenda of the Federal Government aimed at uplifting the quality of life of all citizens.<br />

“It should be our collective resolve to go all out in hard work to implement the agenda of this administration.<br />

“This is centred on stabilising the micrographic environment, achieving agriculture and food security, ensuring energy sufficiency in power and petroleum products, improving transportation infrastructure, driving industrialisation with focus on SMEs and promoting the informal markets with particular attention to production and consumption of made in Nigeria goods and services,’’ he said.<br />

She stated that the office of the Head of Service was committed to building a new federal civil service that would be all inclusive with utmost consideration for welfare and career development for all civil servants.<br />

“An incorruptible civil service that cannot be converted for bribe but to be an epitome of integrity.<br />

Mr Nicholas Ossai (Delta-PDP), a member of the House of Representatives, made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.<br />

Ossai said that the PDP non elective national convention would provide a platform to further unite members of the party.<br />

According to the lawmaker, this is a new era for the country’s political journey.<br />
<br />
“PDP has come to consolidate on the gains it achieved over the years because it has experienced the people and this is the time to come together in order to move the country forward.<br />

“The regional agitations and economic challenges being witnessed in the country should not continue.<br />
<br />
“The PDP is made up of a highly intellectual political class, that has the capacity to turn things around and manage the country’s economy well,” Ossai said.<br />

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, said that security agencies had a lead that could make possible the arrest of the gunmen that killed 13 people at  St. Philip’s Catholic Church in  Amankwa, Ozubulu in the state.<br />

The governor insisted that the target of the shooting was a business partner of the alleged killer of the worshippers, but said that while the target was not found, his father was killed during the attack.<br />
<br />
Obiano spoke with journalists in Abuja on Friday at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, where he submitted his governorship nomination form.<br />
<br />
He said, “We are taking precautions, we have a lead and the police have made some arrests and we are very confident that we will resolve the matter very soon.”<br />
<br />
He said that the state government was bankrolling both the cost of treating the injured and the burial of dead victims of the attack.<br />
<br />
The governor said that despite the killings, his state remains the safest state in the country.<br />
<br />
“We can’t use that singular incident to judge the state. We have stopped kidnapping, assassinations and all that in the state. So, whichever way you look at it, we remain a safe state,” he said.<br />
<br />
On why he is gunning for a second term as governor, Obiano said that his target was that by the time he had done eight years in office, he would have touched the life of everyone in the state.<br />
<br />
The governor, who expressed confidence at the possibility of clinching victory at the poll, said that virtually all the major roads in the state had been lighted up.<br />
<br />
He said that so far his government had achieved 66 per cent target in internally generated revenue.<br />
<br />
Obiano said, “In agriculture, the state is doing very well and has attained self-sufficiency in rice production. We consume 320,000 metric tonnes and now we produce 375,000 metric tonnes per annum, from 80,000 metric tonne when we assumed office.<br />
<br />
“What I want to leave behind as my legacy when I leave office after eight years is to ensure that Anambra State is self-sufficient in its revenue sources so that we will not have to be waiting for Abuja to run the affairs of governance.”</div>

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the Chairman of National Caretaker Committee, Peoples Democratic Party, said there were five failed attempts to stop the Saturday non-elective national convention of the party.<br />

Makarfi disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 75th PDP National Executive Committee meeting of the party held at the party national Secretariat on Friday in Abuja.<br />

He said that the purpose of the meeting was to enable the NEC members to review all the happening across the country.<br />

“At least there were four or five attempts to this convention through the court but as God will have it we overcame all those attempts.<br />
<br />
” So the convention will hold tomorrow.<br />
<br />
“Some people never give up. We must not think that we are out of the woods. People will continue with legal minds in our paths.<br />
<br />
“We are going to overcome that with our resilience and to do the needful,” Makarfi said.<br />
<br />
The Governor of Ekiti and PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose, also speaking at the meeting, pledged the forum’s commitment and submission to PDP decisions.<br />
<br />
He urged all NEC members to embrace the spirit of new beginning for the party to make the Saturday convention a success.<br />
<br />
The Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Sen. Wali Jubrin gave the assurance that the board would not allow the party to die.<br />
<br />
Jubrin congratulated the party on its victory at the Supreme Court judgment delivered on July 12.</div>

A group of Igbo lawyers under the platform of Anambra State Lawyers in Defence of Democracy has described the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu as an anarchist.<br />

It accused Kanu and his IPOB of trying to cause anarchy in the country, calling on security operatives to deal decisively with the organization before it would plunge the country untold conflict.<br />
<br />
In a letter addressed to the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano and signed by its convener, Mr. Johnmary Jideobi, the lawyers said IPOB had introduced violence in the nation’s electoral process, with the threat to disrupt the November poll in Anambra state.<br />
<br />
In the letter titled, ‘The 2017 Anambra State Governorship Election and the imperative of ending the impunity of anarchists before it is too late’, the lawyers said: “The leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has taken a decision and consequently issued a directive to the effect that elections would no longer hold in Biafraland.<br />
<br />
“No doubt, both your humble self and the members of ASLADD are all Biafrans. To this extent, it is therefore correct to state that no one man or group can lay claim to being more Biafran than the others.<br />
<br />
“The fulcrum of this urgent letter is to express the way we feel by the strident opposition mounted by the IPOB to the conduct of the 2017 governorship election in Anambra state.<br />
<br />
“We have chosen to write you on this, principally because we are involved. We are involved because democracy has come under imminent threat in our beloved state.<br />
<br />
“We are involved because the future of every nation’s democracy lies on the shoulders of lawyers.<br />
<br />
“We are involved because lawyers are saddled with the sacred and abiding duties of enlightening the society, upholding the rule of law and defending our constitution, which is the most sacred document that holds our nation in balance and in being.<br />
<br />
“We are involved because it is our incontestable right to contribute in defining and protecting the future in which we will live and raise our kids.”<br />
<br />
The lawyers said further, “But IPOB did not stop at that. It has now gone physical. In Onitsha, video evidence abounds how IPOB members interrupted state activities where the governor went for a football tournament. On another occasion, the governorship candidate of Progressives Peoples’ Alliance, PPA, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, was confronted at a rally by members of IPOB.<br />
<br />
“Only recently, the IPOB members invaded and desecrated St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area, where Governor Obiano was to worship.<br />
<br />
“From the account of the state Commissioner of Police, it took greater restraint and discipline on the part of the governor’s security details to stave off what would have been a harvest of human casualties.<br />
<br />
“Still recently, a coalition of militants issued a stern warning to Anambrarians, to stay away from the polls on the 18th of November, 2017 or pay dearly for daring to defy the order of Maazi Nnamdi Kanu. All these are deliberate acts aimed at striking terror in the minds of ordinary citizens who have made up their minds to go out and discharge their civic duty.<br />
<br />
“It is now clear that going further to disrupt electioneering processes like football tournaments, campaign rallies and invading and desecrating the sacred places of worship as witnessed in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia, are acts clearly outside the meaning of the word “boycott”.<br />
<br />
“Those are acts of outlawry. They are forerunners of anarchy. Anarchy is antithetical to democracy. Anarchists are anti-democratic forces that must be opposed, whether in Nigeria or Biafra land. Anambra State has values that distinguish it from the lots.<br />
<br />
“It is important to point out that in every democracy, while the minority will always have their say, the majority will have their way. In every democracy, no one man has the monopoly of the knowledge of what is good for a people.<br />
<br />
“For seeking to precipitate anarchy in the state of the iconic departed supreme leader of Biafra Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, they are enemies of Biafraland. They have no respect for the cherished memories of our departed supreme leader who in his matchless wisdom established APGA as a political party in the Nigerian Federation. This is a party which IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu once headed its United Kingdom chapter and he has not told us what has changed between then and now.<br />
<br />
“We wish to remind Your Excellency that as the Chief Security of Officer of this state, all the instruments and legitimate authority of the state are at your disposal. Your hand should be strengthened by this singular fact.<br />

Not only is President Muhammadu Buhari older than President Donald Trump, in a comparison between them on an elementary matter like jobs we find that according to the latest US job report from the United States Department of Labor, the US economy has added 1,074,000 under President Trump while according to to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, the Nigerian economy lost 4.58 million jobs in President Buhari’s first year!<br />

This is no mean task! It is easy to do what Trump did and make jobs appear, but it is much harder to do what President Buhari has done and make jobs that someone produced disappear!<br />
<br />
And as President Muhammadu Buhari continues to make London Nigeria’s new Federal Capital Territory, his rapidly shrinking horde of supporters want us to feel sorry for him by selling the narrative that what is happening to him could happen to anyone.<br />
<br />
That is true enough, but make no mistake, President Buhari does not deserve our sympathy. When the shoe was on the other foot, he called on the Executive Council of the Federation to declare the late President Yar’adua incapacitated and failing that, for the Senate to impeach him.<br />
<br />
His exact words on March 9, 2009 were “If the Executive Council of the Federation had acted in accordance with the constitution, by invoking the necessary sections to declare the President incapacitated, we would not have found ourselves in this present situation.”<br />
<br />
Again, when he thought he could be sanctimonious without proving his sainthood he decried the practice of government officials going abroad at public expense for medical treatment.<br />
<br />
His exact words on April 27, 2016 were “While this administration will not deny anyone of his or her fundamental human rights, we will certainly not encourage expending Nigerian hard earned resources on any government official seeking medical care abroad.”<br />
<br />
Today he is spending his 96th day in London and “expending Nigerian hard earned resources” on himself. If these are not prima facieevidence of hypocrisy, then I am as old as Robert Mugabe!<br />
<br />
And I must say that I was not really surprised that the Buhari administration brutalized popular musician Charly Boy and his #ResumeorResign group who were beaten, tear gassed and slapped at the Unity Fountain on Tuesday the 8th of August 2017.<br />

What less can one expect from an administration that killed 347 shiite men, women, children and infants in cold blood on December 15, 2015?<br />

The incident at the Unity Fountain involving Charly Boy and others only proves that dictators may grow old, but they do not grow into democrats!<br />

Is the Presidency not ashamed to call President Muhammadu Buhari ‘a private citizen’? He is staying at ‘Abuja House’ not ‘Buhari’s House and we the citizens of Nigeria are paying for his treatment. He is NOT a private citizen. Yesterday he released a statement condemning the Ozubulu massacre and assuring us of our safety. Which private citizen does that?<br />

Nigeria is tired of a part time President. Nigeria is tired of a free lance President. Nigeria is tired of a private citizen President!<br />

In fact, I suddenly feel inspired to write a book titled How To Identify A Dictator: He uses your tax money to pay for his medical treatment yet you are not entitled to know his medical condition. When it suits him, he is a public official. When it does not, he transforms to a private citizen. Yet his government instructs you to pray for him. No, I am not talking of Kim Jong-Un here!<br />

That President Muhammadu Buhari’s Anambra statement assuring Nigerians of their safety though! How can a private citizen in London assure another private citizens in Nigeria of their safety? And what is the point in having an acting President in charge when the London based private citizen President is issuing statements. Has he resumed from London? Nigeria is getting mixed signals from the Presidency. Has the President resumed from London or is the acting President still acting?<br />

President Muhammadu Buhari wrote to the National Assembly to make Professor Yemi Osinbajo acting President, yet he is still releasing statements as Nigeria’s President. Is he a freelance President? Osinbajo is either in charge until President Buhari returns or he is not in charge at all. In fact, I don’t know why people still pay to watch Game of Thrones on Cable TV when they can watch it for free at Aso Rock?<br />

And a week after it became public knowledge that an anti Igbo hate song is circulating in parts of Nigeria we have radio silence from the Presidency. Vacationing President Muhammadu Buhari, who condemned the Ozubulu killings in a statement, has nothing to say about the anti Igbo hate song.<br />

How won’t the anti Igbo hate song take root when the Arewa Youths who gave the Igbo quit notice are walking around freely in public. In the wake of the anti Igbo song, I remind the Buhari administration that we have not forgotten the speed of their one sided arrest during the Ife Yoruba Hausa clash!<br />

Obviously, this administration is very quick to go after real or imagined enemies of the Buhari administration but is slow to act against Nigeria’s enemies, if at all they even act.<br />

Look at the difference in the way they treated the Charly Boy group and the Arewa Quit Notice group. Look at the speed at which they arrested the Buhari dog man. But what have they done against Fulani herdsmen?<br />

According to The PUNCH Newspaper, half of Nigeria’s 71 million hectares of arable farmland is not being cultivated because farmers have abandoned their farms due to the activities of herdsmen. In Benue state alone, the Governor says 1800 farmers have been killed by herdsmen in the last three years (no wonder he says we are all sick because of Buhari’s sickness). According to the Global Hunger Index, the Jonathan administration reduced hunger in Nigeria from 16.3 in 2005 to 15 points in 2013 (please Google it).<br />

But guess what? Under the Buhari administration according to the latest Global Hunger Index, 32.9 per cent of Nigerian children under the age of five suffered stunted growth due to hunger and malnutrition. By halting attacks by herdsmen, the Buhari administration can immediately and dramatically increase the amount of food grown in Nigeria and push prices down. Yet what is this administration doing to halt the herdsmen crisis? I do not know. If you do, maybe you can tell me!</div>

Adding the about 50 days he had earlier spent on the same vacation, General Buhari has spent a cumulative of about 150 days and still counting outside the shores of the country.</div>

To say publicly and at different fora that Nigerians do not deserve to know what ails their president is not only an insult but also a futile attempt at the “privatization” of the president and the presidency by very few individuals who erroneously think our presidency is their private estate.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">To this extent, those of us involved in the #ResumeOrResign protests are not in any way against the president for taking ill but much more to drive home a lesson to today’s cabal and tomorrow’s leaders that the presidency is a public entity and should be run not like a cult of secrecy and esoteric languages but as the people’s property. The people deserve full disclosure!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Some of the aides of the president have described the president as a private citizen and that it is disrespectful to ask the president to disclose what ails him! This is not only absurd but also goes a long way to show the mindset of those in the Villa.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Buhari’s medical bills are being picked by Nigerians. His welfare is our responsibility. When you are the one picking the medical bills of a patient, you deserve to know what ails the patient even doctors know this is the right thing to do.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Anyone who wants to live as a private citizen would do well to relocate from Aso Rock to their private residences and abdicate the mandate given them freely by the people. Aso Rock and their occupants are merely tenants. The Nigerian citizens are the landlords!</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Apart from the above, we still wonder why the president would still be in the UK for treatment when his aides and supporters including the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, have told us severally that the president is “hale and hearty”.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Some of them have told us that “he is in good spirits” and have joked cheerfully with those who have visited him.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">If the president is indeed hale and hearty, and is in good spirits, like his handlers would want us to believe, why is he still in the UK? Was he elected to be a foreign-based president?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Our demands are simple. Since they have told us that General Buhari is hale and hearty, and in good spirits, yet, has refused to return home after 95 consecutive days abroad, this amounts to nothing but truancy, and he should either #ResumeOrResign forthwith!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">When you employ a man who has been away from work for 95 days and still counting on account of ill health, you are bound to sympathise with that man even if it is not convenient for you and is inimical to the general interest of your company.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">But when his/her close relatives come to you to tell you as his employer that the one you have continued to keep as an employee, keep paying his full entitlements and emoluments, and keep picking his medical bills despite being away for so long is actually not sick but hale and hearty and is in good spirits, how would you react? What would you do? Would you keep paying his medical bills, would you keep paying his entitlements and emoluments, would you continue to keep him as an employee, or would you rather give him a mandate to either #ResumeOrResign? These are germane questions begging for honest and sincere answers.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Some have argued that Buhari’s absence has not stalled governance. But this is false. The truth is that governance is moving at “hand-brake” speed. Even when Buhari was fully fit, Nigerians, and even his staunch supporters, called him “Baba Go-Slow”, not to talk of now that his absence has totally blocked the road.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">We know that Osinbajo is an acting president only on paper. He knows he is being watched and does not have the full powers to act independently as an acting president.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">For example, the erudite professor of law has found it difficult if not impossible to assign portfolios to the ministers recently screened by the Senate. It is the same thing with ambassadors-designate who are yet to be deployed to their countries of assignment months after being screened by the senate. The functions these ones are supposed to be performing have, undoubtedly been left to suffer.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">We still do not have a secretary to the federal government months after Babachir Lawal was suspended. Even the outcome of the panel set up to investigate him cannot still be acted upon beyond the suspension handed to him months after.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">All these have further heightened our fears of Buhari’s capacity to coordinate our affairs because all these lacunae can be fixed with just telephone conversations with the “acting president”. We expect that even if Osinbajo is being stifled by interests, Buhari could have been giving directives on what to do on matters the cabal thinks are the exclusive preserve of the president even when we have an “acting president”. It is obvious that even the cabal doubts the mental capacity of the president to intervene in State matters.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Nigeria is too complex even for a fully fit president to lead not to talk of an absentee and unfit one. Little wonder we now have a more ferocious resurgence of the Boko Haram onslaught that has led to the killing of innocent people including oil explorers, University staff, fishermen, and the sacking of whole villages.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The general insecurity that has bedevilled our country in recent times is symptomatic of a country without a clear-cut chain of command. From incessant kidnappings, unabated ritual killings, terrorist attacks, police brutality on innocent and harmless protesters/citizens, continued job losses etc, it is obvious Nigeria is drifting southwards and only a sincere approach to the situation which includes giving full compliments of power to Osinbajo can save the country.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Apart from all these, General Buhari was also elected based on one of his cardinal campaign promises that he would stop “medical tourism” for all government officials in order to save us scarce resources. Today, no president has squandered our scarce foreign exchange on himself as much as Buhari, the same one who promised to patronize only our local hospitals. This is deceit, and Nigerians deserve better. In advanced democracies, such betrayal arising from not keeping to one’s core campaign promises is enough to get the president impeached. But here, we paper over such grave infractions and even treat those who demand that the right things be done like deviants.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">While we are very happy that our president is “hale and hearty” and “in good spirits” to the extent that he has been having humorous exchanges and even shared jokes with the different delegates that have visited him in far away London, his new base, we have no doubt that this is true as his aides and other government officials who have said these are men and women we should believe as speaking the truth, it is therefore not too much to ask President Buhari to either #ResumeOrResign, as running a country like Nigeria from a foreign land is not the same as sharing jokes with his retinue of visitors while the country disintegrates right before our eyes.</div>

Coach Gernot Rohr has joined the home-based Super Eagles team here in Cotonou ahead of their 2018 CHAN first leg qualifier against Benin Republic on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.<br />

The team's media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told Completesportsnigeria.com at the team's hotel on Saturday morning that Rohr joined the team on Friday.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile the home-based Eagles had their first training at another ground on Friday but will have their second training session at Stade d'lamite by 4pm.<br />
<br />
The Benin team will train at the match venue this morning.<br />
<br />
The game comes up on Sunday, August, 13th 2017 inside Stade d'lamite.<br />
<br />
The return leg comes up in a week time at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.<br />
<br />
The winners over the two legs will qualify for the 2018 CHAN in Kenya.</div>

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, said history had taught him that the failure of the nation’s justice system to respond adequately to crisis is a major factor leading to greater conflict.<br />

Osinbajo said this while inaugurating a Presidential Investigation Panel to review the compliance of the Armed Forces with human rights obligations and rules of engagement at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.<br />
<br />
He said it was a known fact that the conduct of the nation’s defence and security forces during the insurgency in the North-East and militancy in the Niger Delta had in recent times attracted significant commendation.<br />
<br />
He recalled that at the inception of the present administration, seven local government areas were under the control of Boko Haram while virtually all of them had now been recovered by security forces.<br />
<br />
The Acting President said the nature of asymmetric or unconventional warfare that the armed forces had to contend with presented unique challenges that most modern armies were ill-equipped to tackle with conventional warfare tactics.<br />
<br />
He said there had been series of allegations levied against security forces by some local and international commentators, and that if left unaddressed, such could undermine the good work of the men and women of the Armed Forces who had largely conducted themselves in a disciplined and professional manner.<br />
<br />
He added, “Failure to examine some of these allegations will also leave those who may have been victims of such abuses without any recourse to justice. And if history has taught us anything, it is that the failure of our justice system to adequately respond to crisis is usually a recipe for greater conflict.”<br />
<br />
Osinbajo said respect for the lives of Nigerians was not just constitutional but also a moral duty.<br />
<br />
He said the report of the findings of the board of inquiries set up by the Nigerian Army to investigate extra-judicial killings and rights violation by Army personnel, which was submitted in June 2017, would be made available to the panel.<br />
<br />
He said the government was also awaiting the report of the investigation into allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation in IDP camps in the North-East, which was ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br />
<br />
He gave the terms of reference of the panel to include reviewing extant rules of engagement applicable to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the extent of compliance thereto; and to investigate alleged acts of violation of international humanitarian and human rights law under the nation’s 1999 Constitution  as amended, the Geneva Conventions Act, the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, Ratification and Enforcement Act and other relevant laws by the Armed Forces in local conflicts and insurgencies.<br />
<br />
Others, according to him, are to investigate matters of conduct and discipline in the armed forces in local conflicts and insurgencies; to recommend means of preventing violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in conflict situations; and to make further recommendations in line with the terms of reference as may be deemed necessary.<br />
<br />
Osinbajo gave the assurance to the armed forces that exercises such as this would be regular and must not be seen as a witch-hunt or a way to denigrate the great work that the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies were doing all over the country.<br />
<br />
He said it was the responsibility of the Armed Forces and the government to ensure that their activities met up with human rights norms and basic rules of decency observed across the world.<br />
<br />
Osinbajo said he also expected the panel to collect information about the conditions of service of the Armed Forces or any other factors that might have hindered the optimal performance of the Armed Forces in the fight against insurgents, militants and other combatants.<br />
<br />
The panel is headed by a Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Biobele Georgewill. Members of the panel include Maj.-Gen. Patrick Akem; Mr. Wale Fapohunda; Mrs. Hauwa Ibrahim; Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim; Mr. Abba Ambudashi Ibrahim; Mrs. Ifeoma Nwakama; and Dr. Fatima Alkali who is counsel for the panel.</div>
