<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDiLk0LUMmBSSDOHD_ophhcwEVEgZV0oLZYmVh1Fp1EY7htBoA5lr7CegWZ2SoehpNmBnFYPnRToH7dLGHCd3wm7EeqzaL-HCa7fDI73wAsBANC9-nMgGVszm2dOEFsY7-XZaHTDkIqLw/s1600/APC-LOGO-17.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDiLk0LUMmBSSDOHD_ophhcwEVEgZV0oLZYmVh1Fp1EY7htBoA5lr7CegWZ2SoehpNmBnFYPnRToH7dLGHCd3wm7EeqzaL-HCa7fDI73wAsBANC9-nMgGVszm2dOEFsY7-XZaHTDkIqLw/s320/APC-LOGO-17.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> In order to rally the support of Ekiti South Senatorial District for the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the July 14 gubernatorial election, stakeholders in the party have advised President Muhammads Buhari to pick Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s successor in the Federal Executive Council(FEC) from the district.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The group , under the auspices of Ekiti South Solidarity Forum, said the step would be a an apt and suitable option to pacify the people of the zone to be able to vote for the candidate of the party in the July 14 governorship election, having lost the ticket to someone from Ekiti North.<br /> <br /> Fayemi, who had picked the party;s governorship ticket will soon resign from FEC in line with the 1999 constitution.<br /> <br /> The APC stakeholders told President Buhari that available records showed that (Buhari) got the largest votes in Ekiti from the zone during the 2015 presidential election that enabled the party to control the central government .<br /> <br /> In a statement by its coordinator, Dr Ayo Omodara , in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the group said the issue of zoning virulently canvassed by aspirants from the district had gained traction and had gone into the psyche of the people, adding that ceding the Ministerial slot to the zone would go a long way in assuaging the bruises suffered by the district with the outcome of the party’s primary.<br /> <br /> The stakeholders said in clear terms that it has it on good authority as insiders that Fayemi’s running mate will emerge from Ekiti Central and that it will only be apposite to pick the Minister from the South, to engender political balancing and give the people sense of belonging.<br /> <br /> He said the zone remains the only district that has not produced the governor since 1999, when each of the other zones have enjoyed such opportunities twice, saying the APC had the opportunity to correct the political imbalance in the last primary but the move didn’t actualize.<br /> <br /> Omodara said losing the governorship ticket has brought about serious disenchantment to the ranks of electorate from the district, comprising six local governments , saying this could be a veritable opportunity for their spirits to be lifted with that thinking that their future is bright in APC.<br /> <br /> The group told the President that politicians of APC extraction from the district had resolved to zealously rally supports for Dr Fayemi in the coming election on the strength of their avowed and unflinching beliefs in party supremacy.<br /> <br /> He stated: “Mr. President, we quite appreciate your neutrality in the just concluded primary. We had seen Presidents in this country who were imposing governors in various States from Abuja, but your Excellency, your own was different.<br /> <br /> “You have always been playing the role of father figure to all aspirants. And we did not suspect that you made any move , either overtly or covertly to aid the emergence of Dr Fayemi in that primary<br />  and that was profoundly commendable.<br /> <br /> “And we understand that President Buhari is a peace-loving father , who could have listened and conceded to the idea that the governorship candidate should be picked from the south but for the 1999<br /> <br /> constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and APC constitution and Guidelines which didn’t allow such.<br /> <br /> “But we are glad that the President has no constitutional encumbrances in who he appoints as a Minister and we appeal that he uses this opportunity to put soothing balm on the bruises suffered by the zone<br /> <br /> with the loss of the gubernatorial ticket by picking Dr. Fayemi’s successor in FEC from Ekiti South senatorial district.<br /> <br /> “The zone comprises six local governments with enormous numerical<br /> <br /> strength in terms of voting that will be suicidal to be underestimated in the equation that could facilitate the APC winning Ekiti State.<br /> <br /> “We believe that Mr President acceding to this request will fasttrack and reenact the friendship with the people of the zone, who have always been supporting the progressive party”, he concluded.</div>

the citizens must be on board or there would be no victory.<br /> <br /> The Nigerian envoy said political will, individual efforts, institutional reforms, among others, were needed, stressing that there is the need to forge stronger partnership to ensure stolen funds are returned.<br /> <br /> Chairperson of African Union Commission, Moussa Mahamat, said the launch of AU was a testimony to the determination of African leaders to expedite the achievement of continental unity and to find home-grown solutions to the region’s challenges.<br /> <br /> Represented by Ms Fatima Kyari-Mohammed, Permanent Representative of AU to the UN, Mahamat said central to the work ahead of AU is the fight against corruption in all its forms. “Corruption destroys the lives of ordinary people and undermines their trust in their leaders and public institutions.”<br /> <br /> “Resources that are needed for development and the delivery of services – such as electricity, education, healthcare, sanitation and clean water – are diverted by a few, thus depriving the majority of the people from access to these critical services.”<br /> <br /> The AU Commission chief said African leaders had declared the July 11 yearly as ‘African Anti-Corruption Day’, 2018 as ‘Year for Combating Corruption’ and adopted a ‘Call to Action’ to fight against corruption and eradicate it.<br /> <br /> “I want to challenge all of us, leaders and Africans from all walks of life, to firmly deal with this scourge,” the AU chief said.<br /> <br /> Mahamat said 2018 witnessed the launch of the Single African Air Transport Market, as well as the signing of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, and the African Passport.<br /> <br /> Other speakers at the event, which also honoured the centenary birthday of late Dr Nelson Mandela, included Rwandan Ambassador to the UN Valentine Rugwabiza and President of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajcak.<br /> <br /> Others were Vice President of Universal Peace Federation International, Tageldin Hamad, Wife of Cape Verde Ambassador to the UN Yamile Rocha and South Africa’s Ambassador to the UN Jerry Matjila.<br /> <br /> Matjila formally presented South Africa’s candidacy for the Non-Permanent Seat of the UN Security Council, representing Africa for the 2019 to 2020 term, which election comes up on June 8.<br /> <br /></div>

width="320" /></a></div> The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) on Saturday confirmed receiving an Order of Interim Injunction from the National Industrial Court (NIC) compelling it to immediately resume duties.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Addressing an emergency news conference on behalf of the national body of JOHESU in Abuja, Dr Godwin Okara, the Chairman, Assembly of Healthcare Professionals Association (AHPA), said the notice was served on the union at 5.39 p.m on Friday (May 25).<br /> <br /> Okara explained that the briefing was aimed at updating the media and the general public on the latest developments affecting the industrial action.<br /> <br /> “An Order of Interim Injunction compelling JOHESU to immediately resume duties was just served on JOHESU at 5.39 pm on Friday May 25.<br /> <br /> “We have the greatest respect and regard for the Judiciary of our country Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “It has always proved to be the bulwark of our democracy, the last hope of the common man and the flagship of the vanguard for law and order in human society,” he said.<br /> <br /> However, Okara noted that JOHESU had before the receipt of the NIC order filed Court Processes before the same court and the Court of Appeal on May 21, challenging the locus standi of the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, an NGO, and the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.<br /> <br /> He described the suit as a calculated attempt by the Federal Ministry of Health and the NGO to demonise JOHESU through sustained misinformation and falsehood.<br /> <br /> Okara explained that JOHESU decided to seek legal redress when it noticed that there was an intention by the parties to tarnish the image of its members on the mass media when they have not received any court order.<br /> <br /> “JOHESU had before the receipt of this Court Order filed Court Processes in the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal on the 21st of May, 2018, challenging the locus standi of the NGO and the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.<br /> <br /> “The move is a follow up to the calculated attempt to demonise JOHESU through sustained misinformation and falsehood by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, an NGO, that is neither our employer nor a party to the agreement JOHESU signed with Government.<br /> <br /> “The NGO has constituted itself into a meddlesome interloper,” Okara said.<br /> <br /> The NIC had on May 17 allegedly ordered striking members of JOHESU to suspend its on-going strike, and resume work across the nation within 24 hours.<br /> <br /> Justice Babatunde Adejumo, President of the NIC, gave the order after listening to the submissions of Mr Okere Nnamdi, in an ex-parte motion filed by the NGO, Incorporated Trustees of Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International.<br /> <br /> The NGO in the motion prayed the court to order the workers to restore normal healthcare services and go back to negotiation table.<br /> <br /> Okara also expressed concern over the persistent attempts by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to misinform the public through malicious fabrication of accusation and blatant lies that JOHESU members had locked up theatres, consulting rooms, laboratories and wards.<br /> <br /> “It beats imagination that NMA will go to any ridiculous length in giving bad names to a dog in order to hang it,’’ he said.<br /> <br /> He dismissed insinuations by the NMA that their members were intimidated by JOHESU officials and hospital authorities lack the power to keep the gates and doors of our health facilities open.<br /> <br /> According to him, JOHESU members have conducted themselves with the highest degree of restraint and discipline in the face of provocation and double-dealing by the Federal Ministry of Health and NMA.<br /> <br /> But the AHPA chairman commended the leadership of the Senate for their recent intervention aimed at ensuring full and amicable resolution of the crisis.<br /> <br /> Okara also appreciated all men and women of good conscience that have lend their voices of reason to JOHESU’s struggle for improved healthcare facilities in the country, justice, fairness and equity in the health sector.<br /> <br /> While sympatising with patients and their relatives over the pangs of the strike, he appealed to the general public to understand that the strike was in the best interest of improving the country’s health sector.<br /> <br /> Okara urged members of JOHESU to sustain the strike pending the outcome of national consultative meetings with states and zonal leaders of the union to review the latest situation and decide on the next line of action on May 27 and 28 in Abuja, respectively.<br /> <br /> The JOHESU official therefore urged the Federal Government to implement the agreement reached with the union on Sept. 30, 2017, to avoid further loss of lives. </div>

Isiaka, who said the decision was not an easy one for him, noted that the crisis rocking the party in the state had proved intractable ahead of another general elections.<br /> <br /> The Ogun PDP had been factionalised between loyalists of Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun East Senatorial District and a House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu, from Remo Federal Constituency.<br /> <br /> Isiaka said he was leaving the PDP to continue his partisan political career “by charting a new course.”<br /> <br /> He lamented that genuine steps taken by few patriots within the opposition party to close up the fault lines and return it to glory days have been to no avail.<br /> <br /> The letter partly read, “I am using this medium to convey the decision to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today 24th May, 2018.<br /> <br /> “This has not been an easy one for me as I recall with nostalgia, the opportunities and privileges which the membership of this party conferred on my political career; the peak of which was the kind consideration given me to be the flag bearer of the PDP in the last gubernatorial election in Ogun State.<br /> <br /> “You will recall that the PDP, especially in our state, has been through a rough patch in the last couple of years, and after two successive electoral losses, the search for lasting peace is still elusive. Amnesty in its report highlighted how scores of women described how soldiers and Civilian JTF members used force and threats to rape them including taking advantage of hunger to coerce them to become their “girlfriends” which involved being available for sex regularly.<br /> <br /> In its reaction, however, the Defence headquarters described the report as fictitious and malicious noting that “this malicious trend by AI is becoming a frequent ritual and it is rather unfortunate”.<br /> <br /> A statement signed by Brigadier General John Agim, Acting Director of Defence Information said, “In times like this, Amnesty International is expected to apply the natural law of liaison by working with security agencies as partners. This would have been the best way to ensure that insurgency and crisis is completely wiped off rather than engaging in falsehood, maligning the military and painting her in a bad light at any slight opportunity.<br /> <br /> “The Nigerian Military wishes to use this medium to reiterate her commitment to the citizens of our dear nation, that it will abide by all Human Rights Regulations as entered into by Nigeria and also go the extra mile in ensuring that the territorial integrity of our nation is well protected.<br /> <br /> “However, the Nigerian Military admonishes AI to desist from cooking reports from time to time to demoralize the entire military system and the nation as a whole whose troops are sacrificing their lives in the fight against Boko Haram and other enemies of the country.<br /> <br /> “These false reports which are capable of derailing the good work being done by our patriotic and selfless soldiers must stop. “Kindly note that we are not in any way implying that AI should not do their job, but such must be done with a level of integrity and credibility by seeking clarification when the need arises.<br /> <br /> “This way a lot will be achieved as both will form partners in the fight against extremism and other vices. The Defence Headquarters, therefore, urge all law-abiding citizens to continue to trust and support the military in the ongoing war against Boko Haram and go about their normal lawful business.”<br /> <br /> The Amnesty International in its report quoted the victims as saying they were coerced into becoming “girlfriends” of security officials to save themselves from starvation. According to the report, “most of these women has already lost children or other relatives due to lack of food, water and healthcare in the camp. The sexual exploitation continues at an alarming level as women remain desperate to access sufficient food and livelihood opportunities”, adding that women reported they were too afraid to reject demands for sex.<br /> <br /> Several human right groups which reacted to the report urged the Federal Government to investigate the allegations. Comrade Ayodele Akele of Campaign for Human Right said, “the report is authentic. Amnesty International has a long credible record we cannot pretend about. It’s a fact that we no longer have the military we used to know. There is no difference between them and the police in Nigeria and it’s so unfortunate and pathetic that our president is not doing anything about it”.<br /> <br /> In his own reaction, Awwal Ibrahim-Rafsanjani, Executive Director of CISLAC said. “This report coming from Amnesty International confirms the reports from various civil society organizations and the National Human Rights Commission in Nigeria which expressed concern over human rights abuses and denial of rights in the IDPs”.<br /> <br /> Similarly, Olalekan Dada, Executive Director, Nigeria Action for Youths said “Amnesty International report exposed what had been happening in the country”, and expressed the hope that rather than defend the military, the government would examine the report holistically to prevent future occurrences”.</div>

I. Adjokwu, had granted them bail in the sum of N10m and two sureties each in like sum, who must be public servants not below level 16 and own property in Edo, with the certificates of occupancy deposited at the court.<br /> <br /> But in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, the PDP alleged that the state government had refused to sign all documents for the bail “for obvious political differences.”<br /> <br /> The statement read in part, “Acting on the instructions of Governor Godwin Obaseki, all the documents relating to the verification were locked up. This obvious action to deny us justice is malicious and an infantile and irresponsible political vendetta.<br /> <br /> “As it is becoming obvious that they will not do the needful, they have elected to sign only that of Chief Lucky Imasuen because of his current membership of the APC. Lucky Imasuen has insisted that his (matter) cannot be separated from the rest of those charged with him.”<br /> <br /> But Obaseki denied the allegation, adding that he was “too busy developing Edo” to be interested in the criminal prosecution of the PDP leaders.<br /> <br /> The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said, “We are very aware that it is in the character of members of the PDP in Edo to live in denial and blame others when they confront the nemesis of their own actions.<br /> <br /> “We, however, want to advise them that, for once, they should take responsibility for their actions and direct their energy towards soul searching and character reforms.”</div>

Bagudu signed his bail bond of $500,000 cash, prompting his return to Nigeria. On his return to Nigeria, Bagudu actually refunded to the Central Bank of Nigeria through the office of the National Security Adviser the sum of $604,743,187.19, £60,090,984.93 and an additional £5.25m.</div>

Read the entire letter and you will see that there was nothing bad that transpired between us.<br /> <br /> “His final paragraph is that he remains loyal to his leader and his brother. In my response, I eulogized him and wished him the best in his future endeavour and assured him of the support of the good people of Bauchi State. There was no problem whatsoever.”<br /> <br /> Also on why it was easy for him to accept the deputy governor’s resignation letter, he said the word resignation connotes a will on the part of the person who has offered, adding that the deputy decided to offer his letter willingly.<br /> <br /> Besides, he said there was no way he could force him to accept an employment when the time had come for him to look elsewhere.<br /> <br /> Explaining more on his working relationship with his resigned deputy governor, Abubakar said, “We had the most fantastic working relationship. In his words and you can ask him, he has said several times that he is the most pampered deputy governor in Nigeria.”<br /> <br /> On the allegation that apart from the former deputy governor, three other persons had left his government, the Bauchi State governor who has been having running battle with the members of the National Assembly from his state, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said it was very difficult for people to embrace change.<br /> <br /> He said, “Because I have come to Bauchi state to engender change and change is very difficult for people to accept. People are used to a certain way of doing business and I have come to change that way of doing business.<br /> <br /> “Because, that way was destroying Bauchi State. So, we had to put a stop to it. We had to bring Bauchi state out of the dungeons. I give people a chance and if you think you can go at my pace, you stay and if you can’t go at my pace, you resign.”<br /> <br /> He, however, refused to comment whether his deputy resigned because he couldn’t go at his pace and whether he was also expecting more resignation.<br /> <br /> When reminded that the spokesman to the deputy governor had said on television that the deputy governor resigned because he was not being treated as part of the government, Abubakar said the claim was not true.<br /> <br /> “I think he is wrong. Go to the House of Assembly and check, I went on official leave twice since I took over and each time I transmitted a letter to the House of Assembly making him the acting governor of Bauchi.<br /> <br /> “Moreover, I gave him the most important ministry, ministry of education where I have been allocating the largest share of the budget of Bauchi state inception till date. That should answer your question.”</div>

The various committees and sub-committees that we have put together to prepare for the summit are doing a great job. What we will now do is to commit and get the approvals.<br /> <br /> “I want us to look at the performance side very closely and channel our contributions on that. We also need to ensure that the steering committee meeting held on schedule every quarter.”<br /> <br /> In another development, the NNPC said it was considering the expansion of the capacity development arrangement with its Joint Venture (JV) partners to facilitate a more robust cross-posting of staff between the organizations.<br /> <br /> Chief Operating Officer (COO), Corporate Services, Mr. Isah Inuwa, stated this when he led staff on secondment from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and Shell in NNPC to a meeting with the Group Managing Director, Mr. Maikanti Baru.<br /> <br /> The COO said the meeting was designed to appraise the GMD on what the staff on cross posting to the corporation had achieved during their assignment.<br /> <br /> Speaking after listening to the accomplishments and challenges of the seconded staff, the GMD commended them on their diligence and their ability to achieve so much in the face of the challenge of working in an environment different from that of their primary employers.<br /> <br /> The cross-posting arrangement is a scheme designed to deepen understanding among the JV partners and develop capacity.</div>

Some persons who were untouchable before are being touched. So, that fight against corruption, I am happy that even other African heads of states under the umbrella of the AU, have acknowledged President Buhari as one African President that has proved his sincerity to fight corruption. And i think even recently the Secretary General of the Commonwealth also had very kind word to say about the leadership of our President on the war against corruption.”<br /> <br /> Oshiomhole added that “We are preparing ourselves in getting the truth ready so we can engage. In Edo state, those who participated under the PDP philosophy of share the money, those collected money for either their campaign or their personal interest, they are now being called to account for it.<br /> <br /> ¨So I am very confident that we will win the next general election, have our President re-elected, have more governors elected under our platform, have more of our party members elected in the states and National Assemblies so that come February next year we will not only form a federal Government we will have overwhelming majority in the National Assembly such that the capacity to govern on the part of the executive will not be weakened by a tight margin in the National Assembly¨ he stated.</div>

She, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the application.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the third defendant, Linus Okpara, in the second charge, has urged the court in a motion on notice to quash the two counts preferred against him.<br /> <br /> He made the application through his counsel, Mr. Jude Igbanoi, adding that the proof of evidence did not disclose any prima facie case against him.<br /> <br /> “I will align myself with the arguments made by the first defendant. I urge this honourable court to quash the charge; there is nothing in the proof of evidence linking the third defendant to the charge,” Igbanoi said.<br /> <br /> The prosecutor, in responding to the third defendant’s motion, told the court that the proof of evidence disclosed a prima facie case against him.<br /> <br /> She said that the proof of evidence disclosed where the third defendant admitted collecting the sum of N2m for the first defendant in relation to one of the victims, Uche Okorafor.<br /> <br /> “I, therefore, urge the court to discountenance the third defendant’s argument,” DPP said.<br /> <br /> Justice Adedayo Akintoye, after listening to all the arguments, adjourned the case until June 26 for ruling.<br /> <br /> NAN also reports that the alleged kidnap kingpin was arrested on June 10, 2017 and was, in August 2017, arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi at an Ikeja High Court for kidnapping.<br /> <br /> He was also arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of Ikeja High Court, Lagos.</div>

Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie said Nigerian Women were being marginalised by their male counterparts.<br /> <br /> She said the country only had one principal officer in each of the two chambers of the National Assembly since the return to democracy in 1999.<br /> <br /> She also told Mr Buhari that as the president, anything he said at the gathering “will become policy and subsequently law.”<br /> <br /> To this end, she said “whenever the president is a man, the Vice President should be a woman.”<br /> <br /> Mrs. Ativie also said for every three senatorial seats in the states, one should be a woman. She also said “where there are nine House of Reps members, the men should take six and leave three for women.”<br /> <br /> Responding, President Buhari jokingly said “it is a pity that the Vice President is not here, but I am sure the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will brief him that his position is threatened.”<br /> <br /> Mr Buhari however appreciated the support given to him by women generally in the four times he ran for president.<br /> <br /> He recalled reports he received during elections in which women in Labour queued to vote for him.<br /> <br /> He asked the delegation to take a message to their colleagues to extend the same support since he has declared to seek for second term.<br /> <br /> On their request, the president simply told the gathering that he is not “as powerful as you think.”<br /> <br /> He said such requests could only be made by a military head of state, but, he has today dropped the uniform for “agbada”.</div>

Ebola is endemic in that country like Lassa fever is endemic in ours and Zika fever in others, he explained.<br /> <br /> However, expressing divergent views, the Chairman Medical Guild, Dr Saheed Babajide who urged the Federal government to demand for the  health status of the team and also authentic the report here in Nigeria before the team is allowed into the country.<br /> <br /> According to Saheed, it would be disastrous if Nigeria should repeat the mistake of the past.<br /> <br /> “Even after authenticating the results, as the team is landing at the airport, there should be comprehensive screening of the team again.  The government should look beyond the diplomatic problem, but consider the risk that will come out of it if anyone of them is infected and a single Nigeria contract it.<br /> <br /> “If it were in developed countries like the United State they will not even allow them to come but because we are Africans, in the spirit of oneness, we should test all of them before the commencement of the match.”<br /> <br /> He further lamented that even in the health facilities Nigeria was not proactive in terms of prevention.  “What is on ground? By now, with the 2014 experience, Nigeria would have build Infectious disease hospitals at least in all the six geopolitical zones.  But we are waiting for it to happen first.<br /> <br /> “When you go to different public hospitals, all the precautionary measures are not available in the hospitals. We should have free running tap water, disposable cloves, face masks, needles and other consumables but these things are not available. Government at all level should sit down and map out strategies on how to prevent Ebola or any other infectious disease by making sure the borders and hospitals are safe.”</div>
