Suspected Boko Haram terrorists in about ten gun trucks, in the early hours of Saturday, invaded Katarko village, in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
A source, who spoke to newsmen  from a hidden place, said the attackers drove into the village in a convoy of gun trucks at about 8am shooting sporadically.
He said troops stationed in the community engaged the attackers.
“We had to run for our lives,” he said.

It was also gathered that there was reinforcement by troops of Sector 2 with support from the air component of Operation Hadin Kai.
Details of the attack were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
Katarko village which is about 20 kilometers away from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, had previously suffered from Boko Haram attacks.

One Hamza Isah, 25, from Rinjin Gora village, in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State has confessed that he aided and abetted bandits to kidnap his father from his Rinjin Gora residence to be rewarded with the sum of N200,000.
Hamza, alleged to be at loggerheads with his 60-year-old father, Alhaji Isah Maigora, said he conspired with two members of the community who are also currently under the police net, to kidnap his father who is still in captivity at a yet to be identified location.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Superintendent Isah Gambo paraded the suspect and his alleged accomplices before pressmen at the State police command on Friday.
“I have issues with my Dad. So, I went to Auwal Magaji to help me with fertiliser. He promised to help me not just with fertiliser but with lots of money if I could help them to kidnap my father.

“Instantly, he gave me N20,000 and promised to give me N200,000 when my father is kidnapped and ransom is paid.
“I told them that it will be difficult to kidnap my father as our compound is well fortified. But they told me not to worry and gave me six different charms to bury in the compound which I did. Three days later, they came into our compound and kidnapped my father.
“I decided to spill the bean because after my father was kidnapped, I went to Auwalu Magaji that I want to return the money he gave me and he threatened that my life would be in danger if I dare tell anyone but when they brought me to the command and I was suffering, I decided to reveal everything,” Hamza said
According to SP. Gambo, the elder brother to the suspect, Buhari Isah, became suspicious of his brother’s utterances after their father was kidnapped.
He said his younger brother, Hamza, was bragging that he is going to have a lot of money very soon.
This made him to call on the police to look into the matter and in the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to have masterminded the father’s abduction after being lured with an initial N20,000 gift and charms by an elderly man from the community and the promise of a handsome reward when the operation is successful.
“However, the two alleged accomplice denied having any knowledge of the incident as investigation is ongoing,” Gambo said.

Recall that an alleged s3...x tape involving Tiwa Savage and her boyfriend leaked online and has since gone viral.
Tiwa Savage was criticised for her actions by colleagues and fans, as some described her as not being a good example to the younger generation.
However, Edochie in a recent post, said Tiwa’s way of handling the blackmail had inspired those going through such silently.

He urged the ‘Somebody’s Son’ crooner to stay stronger, adding that ‘Nobody holy Pass’.

It appears farmers in Ogun State are still battling with the destruction of farmlands by herdsmen through indiscriminate open grazing of their cows.
Recently, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, signed the anti-open grazing law to prohibit the act of moving cattle around the public places by herders.
The anti-open grazing law, the Governor hoped, would put an end to the farmers/herders clashes, which pitched the Hausa-Fulani settlers against their Yoruba host communities, leading to killings, carnage, arson and relocation of Yewa people from Ogun to neighbouring Benin Republic, in the first quarter of year 2021.
Unfortunately for farmers in Ogun, the ban on open grazing would not be enforced until after six months, leaving investors in the agric sector to the mercy of non-challant herders, who invade their farms to destroy everything they have laboured so much for.

Fatai Ilyas, a journalist with Platform Times, would not forget in a hurry, how his hope to become a millionaire, was thwarted by herders, whose cattle, he claimed, grazed on his vegetation at Awowo farm settlement, near Abeokuta.
Seeking justice over the loss he incured as a result of the invasion, Ilyas petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, asking that the herdsmen be arrested and brought to justice.
According to a copy of the petition made available to newsmen, the reporter lamented that his six acres vegetable farm was brought down by the herders.
The thirty-three-year old graduate told the Commissioner of Police that he had invested N600,000 in planting the vegetables, expecting a sum of N1m as the return on investment.
While saying he was devastated by the manner in which the animals wiped out the entire plantation, Ilyas said, “On the 1st of October, 2021, I received a call from my partner, Mr. Oluwanifemi Olawale that some suspected Fulani herdsmen had invaded our six (6) acres vegetables farm, situated at Awowo in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, which had gulped more than Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00) with expected returns of One Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira.
“On immediate inspection, I was devastated by the level of destruction caused by the cows under the command of the herders.”
The young man explained that he had earlier lodged a formal complaint at Obada-Oko police station, “without any tangible news of arrest of the culprits, which makes me sadder by the day.”
“I, therefore, demand that an action is taken to track the herdsmen and bring them to justice,” he pleaded.
Recall that some herdsmen, in the same Awowo, were accused of setting a solar power station on fire in February.
The Alawowo of Awowo, Oba AbdulGafar Olasukanmi Tijani, confirmed at the time that Fulani herders burnt down the £15,000 worth solar power system, which he had erected in his community.

The pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Friday, slammed Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, over the latter’s claim that Yoruba agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has ties with major sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria.
 
It was reported that Malami, during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, stated that the secessionist has 43 accounts in different banks, stressing that some financers of Igboho have consistently deposited funds in the accounts.
 
Reacting to the claim, Afenifere, in a statement by Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary-General of the group, said Malami’s claim showed that the Federal Government of Nigeria was hell-bent on destroying Igboho.
 
Afenifere also claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari before 2015 was the one who displayed extremism by calling for the application of Sharia law in Nigeria.

Afenifere’s statement partly read, “The Federal Government with its Attorney-General will not stop amusing themselves with illogical reasoning on the nationality question. It’s expected that the AGF would be guided by the standard of a reasonable man, which is a central test in legal inquiry, before addressing the public.
 
“This time around, the team set up by him, at a time he is hell-bent on nailing Igboho, has satisfied his emotional expectations, but in a most unreasonable and tenuous manner, by suggesting that Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation campaigner, would be on the same sponsorship with Boko Haram.
 
“Only someone with pathological hatred for Igboho and insult to the Yoruba nation will find a common bed for Yoruba nation agitation and Boko Haram, which is known to act in tandem with the Fulani herdsmen whose terrorist acts were responsible for Igboho’s campaigns.
 
“It’s of amusing cruelty that the Federal Government which was unable to defend itself of terrorism against Igboho and for which it was handed N20billion in aggravated damages, would turn around that Igboho received less than N200million to sponsor terrorism since 2013 when Igboho had never been heard of and when Major General Muhammad Buhari, as former Military Head of State then was campaigning for the Sharia as a law of general application in Nigeria.
 
“The Federal Government and its security agencies should better pay the damages awarded against them, apologize to Igboho and his household for the acts of terrorism committed against the peaceful campaigner.
 
“The Federal Government may continue to play the ostrich, the whole world knows those who enacted, engineered, and continue to promote terrorism in Nigeria.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says serious private sector investments in Nigeria’s healthcare would reposition the sector and curb medical tourism.
Osinbajo expressed this view while inaugurating the Duchess International Hospital, a subsidiary of the Reddington Hospital Group, on Friday, in Lagos.
According to Osinbajo, the quality of facilities and personnel at the hospital affirms that Nigeria is richly endowed with talents.
“Today is one of those days that one gets extra proud for being a Nigerian.

“It is one of those days when your belief is affirmed that this is a country of world class talents, world class ideas, and world class execution.
“So, we are here at the Duchess International Hospital, by both medical and aesthetic standards, comparable to the best hospitals in the world”.
The vice president said he concurred with the proprietors on their mission to reverse medical tourism ”by delivering the highest standards using the most advanced technology equipment to give the fastest, most convenient access to the best medical expertise available anywhere in the world”.
”And I concur, and I am sure you all concur,” Osinbajo said while emphasising that there were good reasons to agree with the owners of the hospital who had serious bragging rights coming from the Reddington family –a clinical health brand that had earned a strong reputation for high standards in healthcare.
“Top-notch international personnel and many highly reputed Nigerian doctors in the Diaspora and best of all, it’s all Nigerian.
“So, the opening of this state-of-the-art facility also celebrates some other facts.
“First is that it has all that it takes to become the place of choice for even medical tourists from developed countries looking to jump long queues for specialised facility at home or simply shopping for more affordable fees for first class health care.
“Secondly, we have by far the largest number of middle to low-income communities and individuals in Sub-Saharan Africa who require affordable high-quality health care.
“So, there is a sound business case here; in any event, this is the 15th facility of the Reddington Group,” Osinbajo said.
He added that if the business was not profitable, the proprietors would not venture into it, pointing out that such investments seeking high-quality medical personnel, would positively impact doctors.
“We can even reverse the trend of doctors voting with their feet, and we have seen that several doctors who are part of the management of this facility are coming from different parts of the world.
“The reasons for voting with their feet are all these– better remuneration, better facilities.
“But again, only serious private sector investment in high-quality healthcare services offering top compensation for its personnel could possibly create an attractive proposition to reverse the trend.
“So, the only way we can ensure that people stay, obviously, is to reward their services. I think that this is a good way to start.”
Osinbajo, who also inspected the various facilities in the hospital, noted that at Duchess International Hospital, a convergence of so many possibilities and great promise was being celebrated.
He said he was extremely proud to be a part of the phenomenal achievement and the great future it portends, not just for healthcare services in Nigeria, but also for the general business environment.
”If you can believe enough in our economy, to invest in 15 different places, then certainly, you must be doing something right and there must be something right about the economy also.
“By the way, just looking at the ambience of the hospital, the well-appointed rooms, all en-suite and especially, the cuisine, I saw what looked like a well-marinated lobster with lemon butter sauce; this surely should be called the Duchess; definitely, it should be called the Duchess.
”I only hope you don’t get people checking in before realising it is actually a hospital and not a hotel.
“So, it is really, my very great pleasure and privilege to officially inaugurate the Duchess International Hospital to the Glory of God and for the benefit of all Nigerians and those who may seek excellent healthcare from anywhere else in the world,” he said.
Earlier in his address of welcome, Dr Adeyemi Onabowale, Chairman, Reddington Hospital Group, said the project was a one-stop multi-speciality, multi-disciplinary facility, where the best hospital care would be delivered together with world class hospitality service.
In his remarks, CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele said that the apex bank would continue to support the growth of the economy as a healthy workforce was critical to building a robust economy.

Napoli manager, Luciano Spalletti, has said the club is fortunate to have Victor Osimhen in its ranks.

The Nigerian Airforce (NAF) on Saturday said it neutralised several bandits who assembled for a meeting on an Island in the Tumbuns on Lake Chad and at Malam Fatori.
Edward Gabkwet, Air Commodore, Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force, disclosed this on Saturday morning.
He said NAF received credible Intelligence on 20th October, 2021, that about 20 boats with suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists were going to converge on the above locations.
According to him, following the credible information, NAF aircraft under Operation Hadin Kai were scrambled to carry out strikes on the targets.

“Reaching overhead the targets, the pilots observed a gathering of about 20 boats consisting of 5-7 suspected terrorists in each boat,” he said.
The NAF spokesman added that using a mixture of bombs and rockets, “the 3 aircraft carried out a series of strikes and scored devastating hits on the targets leaving some survivors scrambling for their lives.”
He said “the operations by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai yet again confirmed the high concentration of terrorists and insurgent elements hibernating in the Lake Chad general area,” adding that “working alongside the Army and Naval components, as well as other security agencies under Operation HADIN KAI, the Air Component will continue to sustain its operation until the area is rid of all terrorists and insurgents.”

Former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife has said the Igbo speaking people won’t leave Nigeria because of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ezeife said Buhari had been trying to push the Igbos out of Nigeria, but they would not leave.
The elder statesman disclosed this while addressing reporters on Thursday night at a public presentation of three books on the revival of Igbo culture by the founder of a non-governmental organisation, Save Our Heritage Initiative (SOHI), Dame May Ikokwu.
He accused the President of being responsible for the political tension in the Southeast.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho has alleged that some politicians are pressurizing him to beg the Presidency.
Igboho said some politicians have been “pressurizing” him and his wife to sign documents they could use to beg the presidency on his behalf.
Speaking through his counsel, Yomi Alliyu, the agitator said any document claiming he authorized any politician was fake.
In a statement signed by Alliyu, Igboho said he was being pressured by politicians who were unconcerned about his incarceration in Benin Republic.

The statement reads: “We have been reliably informed that some politicians are pressuring our client and his wife to give them endorsement to use at the presidency to justify their new found love and/or defection to the All Progressives Congress and/or curry affection from those in power.
“Let the whole world be aware, especially the presidency, that Sunday Adeyemo is totally apolitical with no special love or hatred for any political party as he has friends in all.
“He, however, respects the six elected governors of the south-west states as authentic representatives of his Yoruba race. Any document purportedly signed by Igboho or his wife endorsing, empowering or making anybody his mouthpiece other than his lead counsel should be disregarded and taken as fake.
“It is disheartening that a discredited politician with disreputable pedigree in Yoruba race and another retired security officer are pressurising our client and his wife to give them endorsements to Yoruba youths and the presidency without considering his unlawful incarceration in the Republic of Benin and health issues.”
Igboho is locked up in Benin Republic following his arrest recently.
The agitator was arrested at an airport in Cotonou while attempting to travel to Germany.
He had fled Nigeria after the Department of State Services, DSS, declared him wanted.
Igboho was declared wanted after weapons were discovered in his Ibadan residence by security operatives.
He, however, denied ownership of the weapons.

Suspected gunmen have attacked one of the facilities of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), in Oyo State.
It was gathered that the facility, christened Abolongo correctional facility was attacked by the gunmen Friday evening.
It was gathered that the gunmen set all the prisoners at the facility free during the attack.
Our correspondent gathered on Saturday that the attackers stormed the facility at about 10pm on Friday.

It was gathered that the attackers used grenades to gain access and set prisoners free.
Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the state, Olanrewaju Anjorin confirmed the attack to newsmen on Saturday.
Anjorin in a telephone conversation with newsmen Saturday morning, said that the senior officers of the agency were on their way to assess the level of damage.
He said, “Yes. It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened.
“And right now, the comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation.
“But, I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened”.

Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command’s Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) have allegedly arrested one Mugira Yusuf, suspected to be a handler of social media handles of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at Anguwar Dallatu in Gusau, the state capital.
 
A source told newsmen that Mugira was at the shop of one of his friends, Sufiyanu Sani Gusau popularly known as Sufi, when somebody who came out of the Zamfara State Government House started making some suspicious phone calls.
 
The source explained that when Sufi noticed the suspicious way in which the Government House official was making calls, he observed that there was a problem and the owner of the shop allegedly advised Mugira to take his leave.
 
“Though Mugira insisted knowing why he had to leave, but his friend insisted he should leave, yet he refused to leave but after a heated argument, Mugira took a bike and left the shop,” he said.

According to him, later, Mugira returned, asking his friend to tell him the reason he was insisting that he leave the business center.
 
The source noted that while the argument between Mugira and the shop owner was still on, a Hilux van full of police operatives stopped in front of the shop and took Mugira to an unknown destination.
 
Some residents of Anguwar Dallatu, who witnessed the incident, said the man who masterminded the arrest of Mugira left instantly and drove to the state Government House.
 
It was gathered that Mugira Yusuf is a strong political supporter of the APC faction being led by former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari and has been a constant critic of the current government of Bello Mohammed Matawalle since 2019.
 
The command’s Spokesman, SP Shehu Mohammed, could not be reached for comment on the matter.

The Emir of Ningi in Bauchi State, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, on Thursday, warned district, village and ward heads in his emirate against conniving with criminals to perpetrate evil.
The emir’s warning is coming on the heels of recent declaration by the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, that criminal elements connive with some traditional rulers and security personnel to perpetrate crimes in the state.
Briefing traditional rulers under Ningi Emirate and his subjects, Danyaya warned that he would not tolerate acts of criminality and connivance with criminals such as bandits, kidnappers, among others in the domain.
According to him, the emirate council would not fold its hands and watch as some traditional rulers invite bandits to rob and kidnap innocent citizens.

While saying that there has not been any cases of aiding and conniving or harbouring criminals in his domain, the emir said he summoned the meeting with a view to making district, village and ward heads give account of the security situation in their communities.
“We will not relent to deal with any village head found wanting in this regard because there is no way we can make progress if the traditional leaders are involved in such a dreaded act.
“I wish to warn any person or group of persons who choose to connive or sympathise with the bandits to perpetuate crime against the law abiding citizens.
“We will deal decisively with anybody identified helping criminals under whatever guise, no matter how highly placed the traditional leader or persons may be,” the Emir said.
Danyaya assured that the emirate council would continue to hold meetings with stakeholders and security agencies in order to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties of the citizens in the emirate.
He, however, appealed to his subjects to always cooperate with security agencies to enable them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator has reacted to the decision of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, to suspend its operations after bandits detonated explosives on the tracks serving the Abuja-Kaduna line.
It was reported that the attack, which took place between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, left passengers traumatised, with reports that the attackers also fired live rounds into driver compartments.
Following the attack, NRC, in a statement via its website on Thursday afternoon, said operations have been suspended till further notice.
Reacting to the development, Sani, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Friday morning, described NRC’s suspension of the railway services as the safest thing to do.

He also urged the NRC to install sensors on the railway in order to detect any explosive devices.
Sani tweeted, “The suspension of the railway services by the NRC is the safest thing to do for now.
“The next is to install the sensors to detect any explosive planted along the rail tracks.
“Flying to Kaduna is the next option while hoping that the road from the airport to the city will be secured.”
Meanwhile, Sani had disclosed that he narrowly escaped death when the train he boarded ran into a portion damaged by explosives used by terrorists in attacking a Kaduna-Abuja train on Wednesday.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has claimed that former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, have indicated interest in contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
There have been speculations in the past weeks over the candidates for the next general elections, especially with the issues raised around zoning.
Makinde, speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, boasted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has “eminently qualified” personalities that can lead Nigeria.
He also said the only way PDP can be stopped, is if the party is divided internally.

“Once PDP governors are able to move in one direction, align on most of the issues and the challenges we are faced with, I think there is hope for this country.
“Our party has eminently qualified personalities that can lead this country successfully.
“Some have indicated interest like former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, like governor Tambuwal, like governor Bala Mohammed.
“The bottom line is when we get to that bridge, we will definitely cross it. What is important at this stage, which I will solicit the support of PDP members and the generality of Nigerians, is please support us to have a successful national convention.
“There is no way you can become anything — president, vice-president, even governor — if we don’t have a party. What we want to do first is ensure that we get things right within our party,” Makinde said.

A graduate of the department of mass communication, Benue State University, Miss Joy Onoh has been allegedly raped to death in Makurdi while delivering goods to prospective buyers in the town.
It was gathered that the young lady who graduated from the University early March this year, went missing on Tuesday after she was called by a prospective customer to deliver cloth at the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate in the North Bank Area of Makurdi town.
Miss Onoh, who was popularly called Pastor following her godly character, engaged herself in clothing business while waiting to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC’s one year compulsory service.
According to sources who spoke to newsmen, the deceased’s lifeless body was recovered in a bush a day after she was declared missing.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Catherin Anene who confirmed the development to newsmen in Makurdi, said the body was recovered by the police during a search following an alarm raised by the deceased’s family member.
She said, “on October 20, at about 7am, a corpse of a young lady was recovered but before then, a case of missing young lady was reported. The family reported that she had gone out to deliver clothes. So the police started the search.
“On 20th October, 2021, at about 7am, the corpse of the young lady was discovered in a nearby bush at Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, North Bank.
“Her name is Joy Onoh of behind Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, House. The corpse has been deposited for autopsy. For now we have no explanation for the cause of the death but in due time we will communicate you accordingly.”

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Kano has alerted the Federal Government over the imminent fuel crisis in the country following the decision by some private depot owners to unilaterally raise the prices of the product.
The IPMAN chairman Kano chapter, Alhaji Bashir Danmallam, stated this in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.
He said some of the private depot owners had increased the price of the commodity from N148 per litre to between N153 and N155 per litre since Friday last week.
He said the association found it necessary to alert the government in order not to blame its members if they increase the price of the commodity as they would not operate at loss.

“Some private depot owners are trying to sabotage the Federal Government by unilaterally increasing their prices even though the government has not raised the fuel pump price.
“We are equally calling on the Management of the NNPC to investigate the issue as some of the private depot owners have since Friday last week increased the price from N148 per litre to between N153 and N155 per litre. We know it’s only the Federal Government that imports fuel into the country.
“As I am talking to you private depot owners in Warri, Calabar Lagos and Oghara in Delta State have increased their prices. We hope the management of the NNPC will investigate and intervene,” Danmalam said.
He also accused the private depot owners of trying to cause a fuel crisis in the country by closing the depots as the end of the year is fast approaching to maximize profit.
He said the association would not fold its arms and allow such unpatriotic private depot owners to engage in unnecessary price increase while the public is always accusing their members of flagrant increase in fuel prices.

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person is estimated to have a net worth of $242 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Although he is already the world’s richest person, he could also become the first member of the four-comma club.

According to The Guardian, analysts at Morgan Stanley have predicted that Musk, 50, could become the world’s first trillionaire — largely thanks to his aerospace company SpaceX, People.com reports.
“More than one client has told us that if Elon Musk were to become the first trillionaire… it won’t be because of Tesla,” analyst Adam Jones told the newspaper, referring to the electric car company behind the majority of his wealth to date.
“Others have said SpaceX may eventually be the most highly valued company in the world — in any industry,” Jones added.
Though humans have yet to reach Mars — one of Musk’s goals for the company — via SpaceX’s Starship, the advanced launch system already has high expectations following the success of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon.
“As one client put it, ‘talking about space before Starship is like talking about the internet before Google,’ ” explains Jones.
Earlier this month, the valuation of SpaceX increased to $100.3 billion, up from $74 billion in February, according to CNBC.
The valuation made SpaceX — which Musk owns about 48% of the corporation — the world’s second-biggest privately held company, The Guardian states.
SpaceX has celebrated a number of milestones this year, including successfully launching and landing a Starship rocket for the first time. Last month, SpaceX sent the first all-civilian crew into orbit.
Musk is currently estimated to have a $242 billion net worth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Tesla still remains his biggest asset.
Back in January, Musk overtook Jeff Bezos to become the world’s richest person, only to briefly lose the title back to the Amazon billionaire the following month. Musk went on to reclaim his spot days later, following the completion of a SpaceX funding round, according to Fortune.
Bezos — currently the second-richest person in the world, per Bloomberg — is estimated to have a net worth of $197 billion, followed by Bernard Arnault ($163 billion), Bill Gates ($133 billion) and Mark Zuckberg ($127 billion).
Musk’s fortunes have rapidly increased since the start of last year.
Back in January 2020, Musk was ranked 35th on their list of billionaires, but that year his net worth rose by $100.3 billion, according to Bloomberg. He became the second-richest person in the world that November.
Bloomberg reported at the time that Musk’s financial surge came as Tesla’s market share hit $500 billion, which was an all-time high for the electric automaker company.
So far this year, the billionaire has increased his fortune by $72 billion, a 42.4% increase from this time last year, per Bloomberg.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday pleaded not guilty to seven counts filed against him at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu was also challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter on the grounds that the alleged offences were committed in the United Kingdom and not in Nigeria.
His lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, made the disclosure shortly after his re-arraignment before Justice Binta Nyako.
Kanu was in June re-arrested in Kenya and extradited to the country to face trial.
He was first arrested in a Lagos Hotel in 2015 by operatives of the Department of State Service and was arraigned alongside four others in 2016.
During Thursday’s re-arraignment, Kanu, was sported wearing a white Fendi clothe and was ushered into the courtroom at exactly 10am by security operatives and took fresh plea to the amended charge at about 10:45am.
Just like the earlier charge, Kanu also pleaded not guilty to the fresh charge.
His lawyer requested that he be should be transferred to the custody of the Correctional Service Centre.
Justice Nyako declined to grant the request on the grounds that it would be in the interest of Kanu to remain with the DSS.
The court had ordered that the IPOB leader be kept in custody of the DSS, pending his arraignment and commencement of trial.
Meanwhile, Justice Nyako had adjourned to November 10 for hearing of Kanu’s application challenging the jurisdiction of the court to try him as well as the competence of the charge.
Among the issues raised in the notice of preliminary objection was that the prosecution did not in any way link the defendant to the charges.
According to him, the alleged offences were also said to be committed in the United Kingdom amongst others.
Meanwhile, Igbo sociopolitical organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo has accused the Federal Government of conducting a secret trial of Nnamdi Kanu.
Chief Ralph Uwazurike, who spoke alongside former Anambra Governor, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said the sociocultural group condemned the trial in its entirety because they were barred from covering the proceedings.
Kanu arrived the Federal High Court in Abuja amidst tight security.
 
He was brought to the court in a black Sports Utility Vehicle at about 8am.
 
He was seen adorning a white Fendi designer clothe and was ushered into the courtroom at exactly 10am by security operatives.

A 22- year-old Abuja based beer parlour attendant, Olorunwa Emmanuel, aka Zhang Wei has been sentenced to six months imprisonment without option of fine by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The convict confessed to impersonating a Thailand based Chinese contractor, Mr Zhang Wei to defraud two innocent Chinese citizens of Y13,000 Yuan.
The fake Chinese contractor who hails from Modakeke town in Osun State, bagged the jail term upon admitting guilty to the cybercrime offences brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced the convict to Kuje prison in Abuja without option of fine to serve as deterrent to others.

EFCC through its counsel, Mrs Bamidele Akanmode had brought 2- count charges against the convict who claimed to be an attendant at a popular beer parlour in Mpape area of the capital city.
When the charges were read to him, the convict immediately pleaded guilty.
He claimed to have come from Modakeke to Abuja to hussle and struggle for work and means of livelihood, adding that he joined the gang of cybercrime offenders in the year 2020 from his beer selling work.
In the charge, the convict was said to have in 2020 fraudulently impersonated one Mr Zhang Wei, a contractor based in Thailand and obtained 5,000 Chinese Yuan from one Mr Li, a Chinese citizen via gift card.
The offence is said to be contrary to section 22 (2) (b) of the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015 and punishable under the same section.
He was also accused of fraudulently impersonating the same person and obtained another 8,000 Chinese Yuan from one Mr Gou, another Chinese citizen against the provisions of the Cybercrime Act.
Although a plea bargain was endorsed for a light punishment by EFCC, especially for an option of fine, Justice Ekwo varied the plea bargain agreement and sentenced him to 6 months imprisonment without option of fine.
Justice Ekwo held that it was high time the Nigerian judiciary rose to the challenge of rising cases of Cybercrime offences among the youths, adding that giving them options of fines appear not reducing the crime rate and not helping Nigeria’s imagine in the outside world.
The Judge ordered EFCC to return the 13,000 Chinese Yuan to the victims of the convict.
The convict who wept bitterly upon hearing of the court pronouncement was subsequently led to Kuje prison by officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service.

After granting him bail, Kanu fled the country to Europe over an alleged threat to his life by the Nigerian Army.
 
However, he was rearrested in July 2021 and rearraigned before Justice Nyako to continue his trial.
 
The Federal Government also amended the charges against Kanu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned Amos Olaniyan (a.k.a. Crime Alert) and his company, Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited.
Olaniyan was docked before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on a 35-count charge.
He is accused of conspiracy, operating business of other financial institutions and obtaining money under false pretense to the tune of N35,000,000.
Olaniyan was arrested in May following petitions that he used his Crime Alert Security Network Investment to dupe people, offering a monthly 30% return on investment.

The offence was contrary to section 58(1) and punishable under section 59(6) (a and b) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, Cap B3 Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2004.
In one of the charges, around September 29, 2020 in Ibadan, the defendant collected N15,000,000 from Fadipe Babajide Ayorinde.
This was after claiming that the money was meant for registration, investment and will yield 30% profit.
The offence violated section 1 (I)(a) and punishable under section (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2016.
Olaniyan pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. Prosecution counsel, Galadanchi Sanusi, asked the court to remand him at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and fix a trial date.
Counsel for the defendants, Richard. A. Ogunwole (SAN) informed the court he had filed a bail application.
But Justice Agomoh ruled that it was not ripe for hearing; he adjourned the case until October 25.
Agomoh ordered that Olaniyan be remanded at the NCoS facility in Abolongo, Oyo.

End SARS protesters, who were arrested on Wednesday at the Lekki toll gate, have been released.
Legal Practitioner, Modupe (Moe) Adele, who is one of the promoters of the End SARS movement, made this known on her Twitter page.
Recall that scores of people were arrested by the Nigeria police on Wednesday during a peaceful protest for the EndSARS memorial.
Moe said about thirty-three protesters were found at the state CID.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Agency (LSNA) has reacted to viral video involving its officers manhandling an Uber driver.
Recall that the Uber driver, who refused entering into the van, was manhandled by police officers and officers of LSNA at Lekki Toll gate for the End SARS memorial.
The victim was wounded while resisting security agents who tried to force him into the van.
The Management of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Agency said its officers captured in the viral video at the scene of the EndSARS anniversary will face an internal orderly trial to determine their culpability and dealt with if found guilty.

General Manager of LSNA, Prince Ifalade Oyekan condemned the conduct of the Officers, describing it as below the standard operating procedure of the Agency.
Part of the statement read: “As an Agency striving to meet its role in the THEMES Agenda of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration, the Agency will not condone any form of indiscipline or actions capable of bringing it to disrepute, while it will as a socially responsible management give the Officers the opportunity for fair hearing.
“Consequently, these officers will face an internal orderly trial to determine their culpability in the said event and dealt with if found guilty.”
The Agency, however apologised to the public and promised to ensure that justice was served.

Dillian Whyte has said he is “devastated” after his fight against Otto Wallin was cancelled.
The bout which was scheduled for October 30 if off, after the British heavyweight contender suffered a shoulder injury.
Whyte has now been forced to withdraw from his WBC interim title defence against Wallin.
The 33-year-old is currently the front runner to challenge WBC champion Tyson Fury, who was ordered to make a mandatory defence against the WBC interim champion earlier this month.

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has asked the Federal Government to declare bandits in the North-West geo-political zone of the country as “insurgents” or “terrorists”.

The declaration, the governor said, would able the Nigerian military to attack and kill “these bandits without any major consequences in the international law.”
The governor who spoke shortly after receiving the third quarter security report from the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna on Wednesday, also said the recruitment of 1,000 youths each across the 774 local government areas of the country would deal a deadly blow to bandits and other criminal elements in the land.
Backing the National Assembly’s resolution to declare bandits as terrorists, the governor said the state government had since 2017 written to the federal government on that, pointing out that “bandits don’t deserve mercy and they should not be allowed to live.”
“We in the Kaduna State government had always urged for the declaration of bandits as insurgents and terrorists. We have written letters to the federal government since 2017 asking for this declaration because it is this declaration that will allow the Nigerian military to attack and kill these bandits without any major consequences in the international law.
 
“So, we support the resolution by the National Assembly and we are going to follow up with a letter of support for the federal government to declare these bandits and insurgents as terrorists, so that, there will be fair game for our military,” the governor added.
The Commissioner had earlier in his report, said bandits killed no fewer than 343 and abducted 830 persons as well as ‎injured 210 persons among them women and minors within the third quarter of the year in the state. 
He said, “the operations against the bandits that began in this last quarter are degrading bandits, but are not yet simultaneous across all the affected states in the North-West region. That explains the limitations that our personnel and other resource deficits have imposed on federal security agencies.
“There are simply no enough boots on the ground to have credible deployment to most places, deter crime, and restore order. That is the reality that we face.
“Many state governments in the North-West and North-Central have adopted a non-conventional approach to help the security agencies to better protect our communities. In our own case, we have about 900 trained and vetted vigilantes personnel working with the security agencies.
“However, we still observed that there is no alternative to launching simultaneous operations in all states.”

Ex-Super Eagles centre-back Taribo West has responded to France legend Thierry Henry’s comments that he was the defender he dreaded most during his playing career.

The Arsenal legend, while speaking on CBS Sports on Tuesday, admitted he endured a torrid time against the Nigerian centre-back during his active days.
Despite being rated as one of the most potent strikers of all time, Henry, now the assistant coach of Belgium, admitted Taribo was the hardest opponent he played against.
“For direct opponent, I would go back in the days – Taribo West,” Henry said. “Because at Auxerre, they did man-marking. He followed you everywhere, even in the dressing room.”
Renowned for his unusual and colourful hairstyles, the former Inter Milan star praised Henry for his qualities but said he never gave him the chance to score against him, just like he did to other top strikers.
 “While I was in France, Auxerre manager Guy Roux assigned me to always man-mark Thierry Henry until he moved to Juventus where he was not really a regular. I also moved to Inter Milan,” Taribo revealed.
“During the time I played against him, Henry was a very good player, it was very difficult to mark him as a younger player because he had pace, knew how to dribble and could score good goals.
“But he never scored against me. I didn’t allow him to score because I never gave him breathing space. I can say in Europe that most of the top strikers never scored against me. The only player that scored twice against me was Lyon’s Florian Maurice in France and he wasn’t that popular. Even the great George Weah never scored against me. Think of all the top scorers in the world, none of them scored against me.”
The Olympic gold medallist also talked on how he frustrated his opponents during his time.
“Auxerre manager then Roux adopted the man-marking style and he usually assigned the toughest strikers to me because I was very strong. Once he assigned me to a striker, I would follow them anywhere, even down to their own goalposts.
“I was very difficult to play against and if you didn’t have the strength you would die because I would mark you out.”

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday hailed the police and the Nigerian Army for the role they played in the #EndSARS protests last year, even as he maintained that the incident at the Lekki toll plaza last year was a “phantom massacre with no bodies”.

Mohammed said this during a press conference in Abuja while protesters gathered at several major cities in the country to demonstrate in commemoration of the #EndSARS protests.
 
The minister also lambasted CNN, DJ Switch and global rights group, Amnesty International, for insisting that persons were killed at the tollgate.
 
He said, “The Federal Government remains proud of the security agencies for acting professionally and showing utmost restraint all through the #EndSARS protest and the ensuing violence, an action that saved lives and properties.
 
“The six soldiers and 37 policemen who died during the EndSARS protests are human beings with families, even though the human rights organisations and CNN simply ignored their deaths, choosing instead to trumpet a phantom massacre.”
 
Mohammed noted that the National Economic Council which comprises all governors and representatives of the Federal Government, and chaired by the Vice President, has already addressed other issues relating to the #EndSARS protest.
He explained that NEC had revealed that 28 states and the Federal Capital Territory- under the auspices of the National Human Rights Commission – had set up judicial panels and commissions of Inquiry to investigate allegations of violations of human rights levied against members of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, especially members of the disbanded SARS.
“Out of the 28 states, 11 states (Abia, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Kwara, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, and Rivers) have submitted their final reports to council,” the minister stated.
 
Each state, in collaboration with the Federal Government, shall establish modalities for the settlement of all monetary compensations awarded by the panels. Already, as resolved by NEC, a number of states have set up Victims Compensation Funds, from which several victims have already received payments of sums awarded to them by the panels.
 
While fielding questions from journalists, Mohammed argued that police reforms would be gradual and could not be achieved overnight.
 
He also said the police do a lot of good in society which is hardly reported by the media.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not order a crackdown on End SARS protests, the state government insists.
Information Commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso spoke on Wednesday in an interview with Arise News.
Omotoso denied Sanwo-Olu stopped event centres from renting their facilities to organisers of programmes commemorating the October 20 anniversary.
The commissioner disclosed that the governor actually interceded when such case was recorded.

He recalled how some planners of a memorial gathering visited the governor some days ago.
The citizens complained they were being blocked from using the Landmark Centre in Oniru.
Omotoso said the governor immediately put a call through to the manager.
“The man stated that the governor never issued such order, adding that they had not spoken for several months.
“This was to the hearing of the protest organisers that came to make the complaint. They even asked for the call to be recorded.
“We did not order any event centre not to allow them to hold their memorial protest,” Omotoso clarified.

The convener of the RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, and activist Deji Adeyanju led the #EndSARSMemorial protest in Abuja on Wednesday.
The protest, held at the Unity Fountain, saw the protesters chanting anti-government songs.
They also sang the national anthem and urged the government to stop police brutality.
The protest was held amid tight security.

Earlier in a statement, Sowore insisted that the planned protests would still hold on the 20th of October.
The police had stated that only indoor and virtual protests would be allowed on Wednesday.
Sowore said, “Our attention has been drawn to the latest statement credited to the Lagos state Command of the Nigeria Police to the effect that no “street protests” will be allowed tomorrow (Wednesday) to mark the historic #Endsars rebellion of 2020 and its attendant fallout due to police repression and Nigerian army’s murderous intervention. 
“We state unequivocally that it not within the powers of the Nigerian police to stop citizens from engaging in street protests, the right to engage in protest against unjust policies, tyranny and oppression is an inalienable right and as such these latest claims are at best superfluous and belligerently arrogant.
“We urge the police authorities to ensure they carry out their duties to protect protesters who will be on the streets by way of cars, bicycles, tricycles, skateboards and by foot all over Lagos and its environs tomorrow (Wednesday).
“The Lagos state police commissioner will be personally held liable if anything untoward happens to any Nigerian citizen engagin lawful protest during the #Endsars anniversary.”

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two protesters at the Lekki tollgate where the #EndSARS Memorial Protest is scheduled to hold in the state today.
One of those arrested claimed to be a journalist while the other was seen carrying a placard.
The police had reportedly warned that anyone seen at the tollgate without an ID card will be arrested.
The arrested journalist told newsmen that he works with LegitTV and that his phone, driver’s license and other documents were taken away from him.

Speaking from a Lagos State Task Force van where he was kept by the police, the journalist who identified himself as Abisola stated that he lost his ID card in transit.
About 30 police trucks and armed personnel are currently at the tollgate to enforce a ban on protests issued by the police command.
A car procession in honour of those believed to have lost their lives at the tollgate when soldiers dispersed #EndSARS protesters on October 20, 2020, is scheduled to hold at the tollgate today. 
The #EndSARS protests which were held in October 2020 were against the activities of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a unit of the Nigeria Police Force which was accused of police brutality.
The epicentre of the protests was the Lekki tollgate in Lagos where many youths gathered day and night to air their grievances against police brutality and bad governance.
They were dispersed from the location by gun-wielding soldiers on October 20, 2020, an action which some quarters believe led to the loss of lives.
This was followed by the destruction of private and public properties by hoodlums in Lagos, an incident that informed the latest warning issued by the police in the state.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has charged Nigerian youths on involvement in political activities ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Speaking with newsmen on the one year memorial of the Lekki incident where many youths protesting bad governance were allegedly killed by the Nigerian Army, the national coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Onwubiko said the best way to end marginalization of youths was to get involved in politics and run for elective positions.
Following the one year remembrance protests being organized by some activists in some parts of the country, the rights group urged the youths to shun violence, but should use other methods to register their grievances.
According to HURIWA, the youths need to empower themselves academically in a bid to solve the alleged human rights violation by security operatives.

He said, “Nigerian youths should stay out of trouble, avoid violence, but should speak out in defence of their fundamental human rights as active citizens of Nigeria.
“We are urging the youths not to get involve in crimes but to meaningfully embrace pursuit of knowledge, education and capacity building and expose all acts of human rights violations unleashed on citizens by law enforcement officials and to demand redress.
“The youths should mobilise to join forces in political camps to take over power democratically in 2023”.

Exactly this day (October 20) in 2020, Nigerians were plunged into mourning following the killing of EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State allegedly by the Nigerian Army and other security forces.
Recall that the EndSARS protest was birthed by extra-judicial killings perpetrated by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a Nigeria Police Force unit created in late 1992 to deal with crimes associated with robbery, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, cattle rustling and firearms.
Some of the SARS operatives, however, allegedly deviated from their legal assignment to unlawfully humiliate, brutalize and kill innocent Nigerian youths, making life relatively miserable for them as some were scared of moving freely on the streets. Most of the time, youths were profiled based on what they wear and the cars they drive.
The development angered and triggered some of the youths to stage a protest in Benin, the Edo State capital following the death of a student who was allegedly killed by an operative of the SARS in late September 2020.

The protest spread across all parts of the country including the big cities – Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and all other states, affecting the Nigerian economy as several economic activities came to an abrupt halt.
Despite some moves by the then Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who swiftly disbanded the SARS on October 11, 2020, in a bid to address the grievances, recalled that the protest continued as the aim metamorphosed into repealing the ‘bad governance’ experienced in the country.
The peaceful demonstration, which subsequently gained the attention of the international communities, was, however, hijacked by hoodlums who severally invaded the protest ground to unleash terror on the youths, leading to the death of many protesters.
Despite warnings and advice from both state and federal governments including security agencies, the angry youths who lamented the level of unemployment, bad management of the educational sector and the general hardship birthed by the alleged bad governance, refused to back down.
According to reports, over two hundred and five police stations and formations, including other critical private and public infrastructure across the country were damaged by hoodlums during the hijacked protest.
Policemen were killed in Lagos, Oyo, Anambra, Benue Abia Ogun and Ebonyi States. Lagos and Oyo States had the highest figure of slain cops, with six each, followed by Anambra State Police command with four, Abia and Ebonyi had two each while Ogun recorded one.
Many correctional facilities were attacked during the protest leading to the freedom of several inmates who subsequently joined the hoodlums to destroy government formations across the country.
On October 20, the protesters assembled at the Lekki Tollgate where the Nigerian Army allegedly opened fire on the unarmed protesters leading to the death of several Nigerian youths.
Despite media reports and investigations, the Nigerian government had strongly pushed back at the claims that the shooting led to massive death tolls, insisting that the reports were fake.
However, report had it that at least 99 people were killed in Lagos during the #EndSARS protest and had their bodies deposited at a morgue in the state.
Speaking with newsmen, a social media influencer in Abuja, Ajeh Jennifer, expressed disappointment over how the incident was handled by the Federal Government, stressing that right to life is not a guarantee in Nigeria.
“I still weep whenever I remember that night when the Nigerian Army opened fire on those representing us to demand good governance for the country.
“It is more disappointing to remember that the killers are still moving freely in the society without any questions from the authorities. Those saddled with the responsibility of protecting our lives are now the ones taking the lives they were meant to protect. Everything in Nigeria needs to be reformed”, she added.
Similarly, a newscaster in a popular radio station in the nation’s capital, Mr Caleb told our correspondent that the memory of EndSARS will forever remain with Nigerians.
Mr. Caleb agitated for inclusion of the incident in Nigerian history book, stating that “posterity must be taught that some youths were killed in Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020 while they were demanding for their rights.
“I was actually one of the protesters here in Abuja before it was hijacked by sponsored terrorists. The education ministry has to add the incidents to school curriculum because posterity must be taught that some youths were killed in Lekki Tollgate on October 20 2020 while they were demanding for their rights.
“My heart is still with those heroes who lost their lives not just at the Lekki Tollgate but through the protests. May their souls continue to find rest with God”, he said.
A corps member serving in Kano State, who simply identified herself as Ene, told newsmen that she lost a friend during the hijacked protest in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. She expressed readiness to join the planned remembrance protest organized by some activists across the country.
“I can’t forget October 17 last year when those terrorists hired by the government stabbed my friend to death in Abuja during the EndSARS protests. He was supposed to be among us that were mobilized recently for the NYSC one year compulsory service. They ended his life just like that and nothing was done about it.
“I heard that there is going to be a remembrance protest on Wednesday (today) . I don’t know if it will happen here but I’m ready to join. They should come and finish us”.
It was reported that some activists including the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore had vowed to shun security advice and stage protests across the country in memory of those allegedly killed by the Nigerian army at Lekki Tollgate.

It was observed that despite the outcries from Nigerians, police brutality has continued in many parts of the country as officers continue to assault unsuspecting citizens.
About two months ago, a video emerged on social media revealing a police officer engaging a young lady in an altercation and physically assaulting her while on duty at a checkpoint in Obeagu Awkunanaw, along Agbani Road, in the State.
Reacting to the video, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu on September 11, said the Command would not entertain such acts of “unprofessionalism by personnel under his watch”.
Similar incidents have continued to occur relatively on a daily basis as police operatives were accused of being responsible for the sudden disappearance of some persons.
