Hon Yusuf Buba Yakubu who repesents the affected community in the National Assembly, reacted to the development with a statement expressing his concerns.</p> <p>He said the insurgents who besieged Kwapre village in Garaha Ward of Hong LGA, killed and maimed unsuspecting community dwellers, destroyed homes and property and abducted some people.</p> <p>“This latest attack on the innocent and peace- loving people of Kwapre is another senseless and cruel act of cowardice on a community that is renowned for peace, industry and serenity,” the lawmaker said.</p>

His cabinet chiefs and two palace guards who were kidnapped with him on Wednesday were also freed by the kidnappers. They returned to the kingdom this morning.”</p> <p>It was gathered that the kidnap incident was not reported at any police formation in the state.</p> <p>A spokesperson of the police in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he could not confirm the release of the kidnap victims when our correspondent contacted him on Saturday morning.</p>

The governors concluded that Nigeria is in dire need of leadership at the federal level to avert the looming disaster.</p> <p>“Time has come to take advantage of the ongoing constitution amendment process to decentralise the security architecture of Nigeria and involve states and local governments.”</p> <p>According to them, security of lives and property of Nigerians are no longer guaranteed under the present government as a result of “leadership incompetence and mismanagement” of the country’s affairs.</p> <p>“While noting that governors have a role to play in the handling of some of the worsening situations, they regret that their hands are tied behind their backs as the entire coercive authority in the country is monopolised by the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.”</p> <p>Meanwhile, the PDP governors have condemned the “double standards” applied by the APC-led Federal Government to allegedly intimidate opposition states.</p> <p>According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the Rivers governor, Kelvin Ebiri, on Friday, the governor said, “It is a scandal that 21 years after the 1999 Constitution came into being, no new revenue formula is in place.</p>

If not, your whole generation will die miserably before the end of this year…,” she wrote.</p> <p>Subsequently, Daramola spoke in an Instagram video wherein she enjoined the public to disregard the claims.</p> <p>“I’m going to put some things straight for the last time. I did not collect money from anybody. I run my foundation from my own money. Those who claim otherwise should come forward with their evidence and if they don’t have it, they should desist from posting stupid messages because the wrath of God will fall on you,” she said.</p> <p>“I don’t have business with anybody. What I’m doing, I’m doing it because it’s what I love to do. How much am I even giving them for Christ sake that people are accusing me of collecting money? They have since been discharged from the facility’s medical unit where they were treated.</p> <p>This was disclosed in a statement published on the website of the NCS on Saturday, April 10, 2021.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The statement read, “A little skirmish broke out at the Bauchi State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service on Friday, April 9, 2021. This emanated from the attempt of an officer to smuggle a mobile phone into the custodial centre for the use of inmates.</p> <p>“This is clearly illegal and against the rules. The officer has therefore been apprehended and is being interrogated.</p> <p>“The scuffle occurred between the inmates who were to benefit from the illegal deal and other staff members who enforced the centre’s rules and regulations and busted the plan.</p> <p>“However, two personnel and five inmates sustained injuries in the melee but have been treated and discharged from the facility’s medical unit.</p> <p>“The restive inmates have also been put under control while the staff involved is undergoing interrogation, as ordered by the State Controller. This regrettable development is being investigated.</p> <p>“While addressing the body of staff, the Controller once again reminded them of the far-reaching implications of smuggling prohibited items, particularly mobile phones, into custodial centres which, among other things, could lead to a riot, jailbreak and others. Mobile phones can be used by inmates to commit crimes or coordinate criminal activities. This will set back the task of reformation of the inmates, the raison d’etre of the correctional service.</p> <p>“He also noted that the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019 has made provisions for sanctioning anyone found culpable of the offence of trafficking. He, therefore, admonished the personnel to shun such shameful act and concentrate on the task of character reformation for which they were employed. He, however, noted that the Service only has a place for personnel sold to the goals of keeping society safe from offenders and reforming them into better citizens while in custody.</p> <p>“He commended the officer-charge of the custodial centre and the staff members for the excellent display of professionalism that prevented the smuggling of contraband into the yard.”</p>

The cause of death has, however, not yet been ascertained.</p> <p>When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Sammy Kpenu, expressed regrets at the development, but said it was wrong for anyone to say Gloria died on the school campus.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>He stated, “It is fake. The lady, who put up the post that she died in school, has already apologised to the department, because it caused a lot of problems.</p> <p>“The lady (deceased) had left the school almost a week ago and was in her family house. She finished her exams on April 1 and had been with her family.</p> <p>“So, from what we heard, she just slumped and by the time she was rushed to hospital, she was pronounced dead. So, it wasn’t anything that had to do with Uniport community.”</p> <p>Meanwhile, the Head of Department, Animal Science and the department’s students association in a statement obtained by our correspondent said they had tried to reach the deceased’s father, but that he was unwilling to speak.</p> <p>“The department tried reaching the father yesterday, but he was not willing to communicate with anyone. However, the department is planning a condolence visit once a date is agreed with the father,” the statement read in part.</p>

Gen. Mohammed Yerima, the troops were initially declared missing but their bodies were later found by a search and rescue team in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.</p> <p>The statement titled, ‘Unprovoked attack on troops on stabilization operations in Benue State,’ said, “Nigerian Army troops operating in Benue State came under attack while on routine operational task.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>“The troops comprising one officer and 10 soldiers were initially declared missing which prompted the deployment of a joint search and rescue team comprising NA troops and personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke.</p> <p>“The search and rescue team, unfortunately, found all the missing troops dead in Konshisha LGA of Benue State.”</p> <p>It added that the bodies of the slain troops were evacuated immediately, while efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime with a view to bringing them to justice.</p> <p>“The NA under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru remains resolute in ensuring stability in Benue State as well as other parts of the country that are affected by the activities of criminal gangs,” the army stated.</p> <p>It further said the NA was determined to ensure that the unprovoked attack did not disrupt the general peace being enjoyed by the residents.</p> <p>Yerima said the COAS has directed commanders on the ground to ensure sustained efforts in order to fish out and deal decisively with “these bad elements who are threatening the peace in the area.”</p> <p>The NA appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.</p>

We are always sensitising on the need to reduce their speed limit and slow down to soothe the conditions of the roads because there are junctions and markets located on this stretch of road from Gbongan to Osogbo.</p> <p>It was reported last week accidents that occurred on the Gbongan-Ibadan road at Ogo-Oluwa where a woman roasting plantain was killed by the roadside and at Owode-Ede, where a man was seriously injured by an 18 seater bus.</p> <p>Also, it was reported another incident where a Nissan Primera car heading towards Olaiya Junction was consumed totally by fire and also on Easter Monday, a near fatal accident involving an 18 seater bus was averted at Heritage Junction on the Gbongan-Ibadan road.</p>

It’s just the medication after the release but I am now better. I am one of the students abducted by bandits on March 11, 2021.</p> <p>“It was on the 11th of March that we were taken from the hostel. The bandits came and woke us from our sleep and took us out of the compound. They told us to lay on the ground.</p> <p>“After they asked us to lay down on the ground, they took us through where they broke the fence with digger outside the school.</p> <p>“It was when they took us through the fence out of the hostel that we saw many of them outside with bikes. It was from there that they took us from one place to another.”</p> <p>On the viral video released by the bandits, Paul said, “It was really true. They were flogging us just because they wanted us to talk about the money they want from the government. They said if they see that they are flogging us the government will be serious to send the money to them. No one was raped.”</p> <p>On how the five were released, he added, “We were just on the roll in the afternoon, some of them (bandits) just came and started selecting us and by that time, I am very ill and they asked me to sit up and that I should get up and then selected other female students. They put us on the bike and dropped us on a nearby village close to the main road and told us that when we get to the main road we should ask of a particular village.”</p> <p>He expressed delight that he was among the five released from the kidnappers’ den but noted that whenever he thinks of his other 34 remaining colleagues, he felt sad.</p> <p>“I feel happy that I am released but whenever I think about my colleagues, I don’t really feel happy because being there is no fun, being there is not nice.</p> <p>“We are just praying to God that God should just release us from that place because those people don’t really know God. They don’t treat us like people who know God,” he said.</p>

The attackers also razed the Imo State Police Command headquarters situated in Owerri and burnt all the vehicles parked at the command headquarters.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>The hoodlums further freed the suspects in the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command and made an attempt to loot the police armoury in the state.</p> <p>It was gathered that the gunmen operated from 1am till 3am on Monday and sang solidarity songs at the Government House Roundabout for about 30 minutes before attacking the facilities.</p> <p>The police accused members of the Eastern Security Network, the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, of being the masterminds of the attacks, but the secessionist agitators led by Nnamdi Kanu denied the allegation.</p> <p>However, Uzodimma discredited the claim that IPOB members perpetrated the heinous acts.</p> <p>He said, “Their (attackers) tactic is that they try to identify grievances of people in a particular area. If it is in Imo State and probably there are some IPOB people who are not happy, they hire hoodlums from outside Imo State, they bring them in, pretending to be IPOB and they commit these crimes and they go away.</p> <p>“So, it is not about IPOB. Yes, we agree, we have aggrieved IPOB members, but I can tell you those who are doing this destruction, most of them were brought in from outside Imo State.”</p> <p>Continuing, the governor said, “What happened in Imo State on Monday is unbelievable. A group of hoodlums sponsored by some politicians in Imo State decided to destroy public infrastructure and government facilities and attacked the correctional centre and the police headquarters, set many vehicles ablaze, broke the correctional facility open and the inmates escaped.</p> <p> “I don’t want to pre-empt the investigations of other security agencies, but I can tell you we are working hard to ensure the sponsors of this dastardly acts must be brought to book.</p> <p>“I don’t want to mention any name because I don’t want to pre-empt the outcome of any investigation, but we have credible investigation leading to those who begged the hoodlums, where they met and how they met and security agencies are already working with this information.”</p>

The Ministry has no such communication.</p> <p>“For the records, the Edo State government due to the cost implications of postponements occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic requested financial assistance from the Federal government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.</p> <p>“The Ministry has since been at work to secure the financial assistance which it believes is being processed. The MYSD and EDSG are determined to deliver a successful National Sports Festival.”</p> <p>Earlier, the Coordinator of Media and Publicity, National Sports Festival, Ebomhiana Musa, in a statement on Wednesday night, said a decision to end the competition was taken taken at an emergency meeting of the Local Organising Committee headed by Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.</p> <p>He said, “The Local Organising Committee, Edo2020 regrets to announce that it will end the games abruptly tomorrow, Thursday, April 8, 2021, for lack of funds.</p> <p>“Rising from an emergency meeting this evening, the LOC says it has to take this hard decision due to lack of funds having expended its reserves to kick start the games.</p> <p>“Regrettably, the FG is yet to redeem its pledge to support us as the host state financially for the cost of postponements. So, we are left with no option but to end the games at noon tomorrow.”</p> <p>The development is coming despite the postponement of the festival on several occasions.</p> <p>No fewer than 8,000 athletes from different states of the federation are participating in the festival.</p> <p>Edo State had raised the alarm over the Federal Government’s failure to provide fund 24 hours to the commencement of the festival.</p>

However, there is of course the need for post-trauma evaluation.</p> <p>“It is in that light, that the Kaduna State Government is handing them over to their parents.</p> <p>“Upon their retrieval, the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, immediately directed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development to offer direct support with the management of the students.</p> <p>“Food, clothing and other immediate essentials were provided to the students, and they were housed at a shelter for debriefing.</p> <p>“The Kaduna State Government’s empathy with the families and loved ones of all the hostages is as important and deep rooted as its obligation not to provide incentives for criminality.</p> <p>“The Kaduna State Government shares deeply in the pain and distress experienced by the parents and families of all the hostages in this difficult time. As such, the Government will continue to work towards the safe return of the students in captivity.</p> <p>“The Governor has emphasised that the government, parents, students, the school management and all Nigerians have one common goal, and that is having all the students, and indeed all those in captivity back home, and to work hard towards overcoming this common asymmetric threat. By the grace of God, we will succeed.</p> <p>“I also wish to appeal to the parents of the remaining students to stay strong. Government and security agencies are working patiently and consistently to secure the release of the students and all abducted persons.</p> <p>“It is on this note that we officially hand over the students to their parents,” he said.</p> <p>Responding on behalf of the other parents, one of the parents of the released students, Mr. Caleb Waziri, expressed gratitude to God that their children were released by the bandits while hoping and praying that the remaining 34 students would regain their freedom soon.</p> <p>On her part, the state Commissioner, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Muhammad-Baba, who expressed delight over the release of the five students, said state would take them(students) into custody for pycho-social support and counselling for now.</p> <p>He added that the released students would be adequately catered for by the state, adding that to state would keep them because of stigmatization from the community.</p> <p>She said, “we are taking them to our shelter because we have shelter specifically for women where they are going to get a pycho-social support and counselling where they will have privacy.</p> <p>“There are foods there; there is also recreational facilities there – television to watch so that they can take their hearts off the trauma they had been through.</p> <p>“We believe that giving that privacy will also help to normalise them and bring them back to their senses once more. By the time they get out of our shelter, they can stay as long as they want. We don’t have any problem with that. If they want to stay a month or until they fully recuperate, there is no problem.</p> <p>“They will be adequately taken care of by the government of Kaduna State so that by the time they come out, they will be their normal selves. We will also want to keep them there because of stigmatization within the community.”</p>

Its suspect handling method is usually in compliance with the tenets of criminal justice administration system and democracy.”</p> <p>The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, had on Tuesday, announced that Afaka died “after a prolonged illness.”</p> <p>He also expressed the condolences of the President to his family.</p>

This is moreso when it is noted that Mr. Adamu listed several sophisticated weapons deployed by the attackers to include General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK-49 rifles, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).</p> <p>“The level of sophistication of these arms and ammunitions call for a more holistic and dispassionate forensic investigation in line with global best practice and devoid of name-calling or scapegoating.</p> <p>“Accordingly, we call on the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba to adopt an entirely different, inclusive and sustainable approach in tackling the security challenges to ensure that government unearths the real masterminds of these wanton attacks and meets its primary duty of securing lives and property in the South East and Nigeria generally.</p> <p>“The need for an in-depth investigation has also become imperative in light of speculations that there may have been security lapses leading to near-absence of resistance from multiple security entities in the heavily fortified area. There is a need to unravel the seeming tepid resistance offered by the security operatives in order to determine any complicity in the attacks and avoid recurrence.</p> <p>“Nzuko Umunna is worried at the seeming tardiness in investigation of the Ebonyi Killings, and urges the Inspector General of Police to display the same level of speed and commitment shown in his preliminary assessment of the Owerri attacks in unraveling the masterminds of the killings.</p> <p>“We note the dire security situation in the entire country and urge the Federal Government to rejig its security architecture in order to arrest the fast descent into anarchy.</p> <p>“Nzuko Umunna urges the South East Governors Forum (SEGF) and the State Houses of Assembly to immediately revisit the popular quest for a regional security framework towards safeguarding the citizens against bandits, kidnappers and killer herdsmen. This has become more urgent in light of the heinous killings in Ebonyi State among others.”</p>

I prayed about it, and I got a clear direction from God to go and receive it, and I have explained to my people in church that God provides knowledge. I will like to appeal to my brother pastors to do their research, get the knowledge and stop misinforming and improperly educating people on guess work, instincts and mere suppositions. Coronavirus is real, and you need the vaccination.</p> <p>“The Bible says my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”</p> <p>He called on the government to compel the church and also the leaders to get qualified knowledge and answer important questions on COVID-19 vaccine.</p> <p>“Some people think the COVID-19 vaccine is a deliberate effort to wipe out the human population.</p> <p>“We need to address the fears and prove it is not so. Other persons think it is the sign of the anti-christ (666) and we need to prove this is not also true.</p> <p>“Other people believe the vaccines have long term effect and if you take it today, in 20 years’ time, it would affect them. We also need to address such fears and prove scientifically this is not so,” he said.</p> <p>He stressed that most theories, fears and questions posed about COVID-19 needs to be properly addressed by the government.</p> <p>“The problem is a lot of these questions about the vaccine are not being properly addressed and there is too much rumour flying all over the place. Some churches believe in divine health but if they study further, they would also know that God provided knowledge for healing,” Ighodalo added.</p> <p>His comment is coming at a time when the likes of of Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, Apostle Johnson Suleman and many other religious leaders have kicked against receiving COVID-19 vaccine.</p>

John Joseph Hayab, in a statement issued Wednesday, said, “Following President Muhammadu Buhari appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as the acting Inspector -General of Police, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna state chapter, rejoices with the new IGP.”</p> <p>The CAN, Kaduna state chapter, according to the statement, enjoined all Nigerians irrespective of any difference to support the new IGP to take the country off the present security challenges.</p> <p>The statement explained that the appointment of Usman Alkali Baba at the helms of affairs of Police should be seen by Nigerians as a welcome development in attempt to free Nigeria from the insecurity it is known with for some times.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a>The statement observed, “The acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has worked in different capacities in Kaduna state. His contributions of maintaining peace in the state cannot easily be forgotten, hence his sincerity, honesty and wealth of experience to ensure a peaceful society is still very fresh in our minds.” <p>Rev. Hayab noted that the appointment of IGP Usman Alkali Baba came at a good time, considering that Nigerians needed a man, who has the vision and a road map towards bringing an end the various challenges and frustrations that the country had gone through.</p> <p>According to the statement, “Having known the acting IGP Usman Alkali Baba for some years, with a determination to bring sanity to the human race, l call on Nigerians to cooperate with the new IGP so that together we will realise peace in the land once more.”</p> <p>Hayab explained that the new IGP “no doubt, needs Nigerians’ sincere advice, suggestions and prayers on the way forward for a free society that is devoid of any form of criminality.</p> <p>“He is a man that has a listening ear to any constructive advice, hence, Nigerians should be rest assured that their sincere observations on the way forward towards a peaceful society will be highly looked into by the new IGP.</p> <p>“While we welcome the acting IGP Usman Alkali Baba, let us all give him all the support and the advice that is needed for the police under his leadership to succeed.”</p>

The quality of the opponent, not because we were not able to do it, how much we fought and stuck together to the end.”</p> <p>Guardiola added, “Now we fly there at 2-1- always they score, but we will adjust a few things we could not do today.</p> <p>“In a calm way, the best way possible, the game we played and see what we can do better.</p> <p>“We will go there to win the game. I ask the players to win the game. We did it, and now we go to Dortmund not to defend.</p> <p>“We will adjust our pressing, adjust our build-up and play 90 minutes to try and reach the semi-final.”</p> <p>Man City’s next game is against Leeds United in the Premier League this weekend.</p>
