Controversial big brother NAIJA 3 housemate, Cee C has probably gotten on big sponsor Payporte’s nerves following her behavior on Saturday.

Payporte, the show’s major sponsor provided CeeC with an outfit tonight for the Saturday night “REO your culture” party. 
 
CeeC was given a long Efik inspired Oyonyo style in Ankara and lace however CeeC was not satisfied with the cloth. CeeC was said to have called the cloth rubbish and nonsense then she altered it to make it shorter. 
 
This has not gone down well with Payporte who have come out to denounce her “make it work” move as insulting. Here is what they had to say :

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, peaceful co-existence and sacrifice for one another, stating that development and growth can only occur in the nation when all tribes and tongue unite and speak with one voice.

Governor Ambode, in his Easter message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, said such fundamental values would go a long way in promoting and strengthening the foundation of love, peace and harmony in the country, adding that the season should serve as a reminder to the selflessness, love, sacrifice and tolerance of Jesus Christ throughout His earthly sojourn, his death and his resurrection. 
 
Stressing the essence of the season, the Governor said Jesus exemplified the virtues of selflessness, love and tolerance during his period on earth, and thereby urged Christians to use the season as a period to reflect on their individual and collective roles towards promoting and sustaining that foundation of love, peace and harmony in the nation. 
 
“We must therefore see this period as a time that presents us the viable opportunity to think about how we can help to steer our nation back on the road to peace, stability and prosperity, by working in the spirit of togetherness,” the Governor said. 
 
He said there was no better time for the country to unite together and eschew bitterness along ethnic and religious lines, adding that no challenge is insurmountable where unity of purpose thrives. 
 
“No doubt, Nigeria will surely make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country that we all desire if, as a nation, we eschew all divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with one another, as Jesus Christ enjoined us to,” he said. 
 
Governor Ambode commended Lagosians for their continued demonstration and promotion of mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence in spite of existing ethnic, cultural and religious diversities, saying that the cooperation of residents for government programmes and policies was responsible for the massive development across the State in the last 34 months. 
 
While wishing all Lagosians a happy Easter celebration, Governor Ambode enjoined them to continue to support his administration to deliver more developmental projects that would make life more comfortable for them.</div>

Palace, who inflicted the first league defeat of Klopp's tenure, were left frustrated in their battle to stay alive in the Premier League, seeing Liverpool come from behind and Sadio Mane escape a red card in the second half. 
 
Luka Milivojevic gave Palace the lead with a 12th-minute penalty before Mane equalised just after half time. But Mane was fortunate to stay on the pitch after he deliberately handled the ball while already on a booking and Salah then struck six minutes from time to seal an important win at both ends of the table. 
 
Palace remain mired in a relegation fight while Liverpool moved 10 points clear of Chelsea in fifth, with Champions League qualification for next season firmly within their grasp. 
 
Klopp's men embarked on a crucial 10-day spell in their season at Selhurst Park, with a two-legged Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City looming as well as a trip to Everton for the Merseyside derby. 
 
But the Liverpool coach resisted the temptation to rest his key men in South London, with Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino all starting in attack. 
 
And despite the visitors dominating possession in the early stages, it was Palace who fashioned the game's opening chance with Wilfried Zaha finding space in the area, only to be brilliantly denied by Loris Karius. 
 
Zaha, an injury doubt before the game, met a long ball with Trent Alexander-Arnold asleep at the back but Karius bailed his teammate out with a commanding stop. Soon after, Virgil van Dijk's free header from a corner appeared to be heading in, only for Mane to flick the ball wide. 
 
Liverpool's defensive deficiencies reared its head for the opener, when they failed to deal with another long ball forward, nodded on by Christian Benteke to the advancing Zaha. Karius clattered him in the area and Neil Swarbrick had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Milivojevic stepped up to send Karius the wrong way for his seventh converted penalty out of eight this season -- more than any other player. 
 
Liverpool then wanted a penalty of their own when Mane went down in the area just past the midway point but after consulting with his assistant, ref Swarbrick punished the Liverpool forward with a yellow card for simulation. 
 
The away side's frustration grew when Mane's header was ruled out for offside but he didn't have to wait long to finally get on the scoresheet. Just four minutes after the restart, Mane met James Milner's driven ball in from the left to tap home the equaliser. 
 
Benteke, with seven goals in nine appearances against former club Liverpool, then squandered two glorious opportunities in the space of a minute to put Palace back in front. First, he made a real mess of a lob over Karius inside the area before blasting over from a similar position. 
 
With Palace in the ascendancy, Liverpool escaped on the hour when Mane, who thought he was fouled by Andros Townsend, then grabbed the ball with his hands. Swarbrick awarded a free kick in Palace's favour but opted against handing Mane a second yellow card for deliberate hand ball.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on the newly wedded couples to always imbibe the teachings and lessons of Almighty God in their marital life to enable them have peace and joyful married life.

Osinbajo made the call on Friday at the wedding reception of the in-law to President Muhammadu Buhari, Hamza Ahmed at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. 
The Vice President advised the couple to always do things together and imbibe the Spirit of togetherness. 
 
The wedding fatiha was conducted by the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque Prof. Shehu Galadanchi, after a payment of N100,000 as dowry by the representative of the groom Prof. Abdullah Abba. 
 
The wedding fatiha was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris among others. 
 
Osinbajo, who was the special guest of honour at the event, enjoined the couple to dedicate their life and time to ensure the success of the marriage. 
 
Also speaking, the Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, called on the couple to tolerate one another and avoid any negative tendencies that could lead to disagreement among them. 
 
Ajimobi also urged the couple to take their marriage an act of worship by providing the necessary support to one another. 
 
The representative of the bride and the Managing Director of Federal Airport Authority (FAAN), Mr Saleh Dunoma, prayed for the almighty God to always provide the means for groom to take good care of the bride. 
 
According to him, as from today, the welfare and wellbeing of the bride is now the sole responsibility of the groom. 
 
In his closing remark, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, urged the groom to take the counsel of Vice President seriously as the only way to attain successful married life. 
 
“ Hamza your marriage is beautiful but on constant basis, I plead with you to always abide with God in your marriage because He is the only one that can sustain that marriage’’ he said.

Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger has urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of hope which the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ brought to mankind.

The Presidency on Saturday said the recent call made by a former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), that Nigerians should not rely on security agencies but defend themselves in the face of killings across the country as shocking and scary.

It said unrestrained pronouncements were capable of encouraging criminal gangs to defy legal governing and democratic institutions. 
 
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba, Shehu, said these in a statement made available to journalists. 
 
Shehu urged prominent Nigerians to use their national influence wisely and shun public declarations that are capable of threatening national security. 
 
He also advised former leaders to take advantage of the various fora where they can advise the government on security matters without resorting to the exploitation of emotional sentiments. 
 
Shehu wondered if any country can survive if its citizens rise against its military. 
 
He said Nigerians must be careful to avoid the mess that destroyed other African countries like Somalia. 
 
Despite Danjuma’s verdict on the armed forces however, the presidential aide commended the Nigerian military’s efforts to maintain peace and stability, “despite being pulled in various directions by elements determined to destabilise the country and government for their selfish reasons.” 
 
The statement read, “The Presidency wishes to appeal to prominent Nigerians, who have national influence, to use their influence wisely and not continue to engage in public declarations that are likely to inflame emotional passions and threaten National Security. 
 
“The Presidency is very worried that criminal gangs will feel justified in defying legal governing and democratic institutions, and authority of legitimately elected democratic government if unrestrained pronouncements are made. 
 
“Silence can be dignified, but sometimes it can be misinterpreted and exploited. It is both shocking and scary to hear the recent comments by a senior citizen calling for Nigerians to defend themselves. 
 
“The Presidency commends the Nigerian military’s efforts to maintain peace and stability, despite being pulled in various directions by elements determined to destabilise the country and government for their selfish reasons. 
 
“What country would survive if its citizens rise against the country’s organised, trained and equipped military? 
 
“We advise former leaders to take advantage of the various fora where people with a history of national security can offer advice to the government without resorting to the exploitation of emotional sentiments. 
 
“The civil war motto: ‘To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’ rings very timely at this time in our nation’s history. We must be careful to avoid the mess that destroyed other African countries like Somalia.” 
 
The reaction came exactly one week after Danjuma last Saturday while speaking at the maiden convocation of the Taraba State University, Jalingo, and the 10th anniversary of the institution told Nigerians to defend themselves against killers in the country, saying  the armed forces were not ready to defend them. 
 
The former Chief of Army Staff had stated, “I am not a politician and politics is one profession I don’t want to belong to because if I am a politician, I will not say what I am going to say to you now. 
 
“When I arrived in this arena, I saw rich cultural display and I was amazed at the rich cultural heritage of our people. Taraba is a mini Nigeria with diverse ethnic groups living together peacefully, but the peace in this state is under assault. 
 
“There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in the state and of course, some rural states in Nigeria. We must resist it. We must stop it. Every one of us must rise up. 
 
“Our Armed Forces are not neutral. They collude with the bandits to kill people, kill Nigerians. The Armed Forces guide their movements; they cover them. If you are depending on the Armed Forces to stop the killings, you will all die one by one. 
 
“This ethnic cleansing must stop in Taraba State and other rural states of Nigeria otherwise Somalia will be a child’s play. 
 
“I ask every one of you to be alert and defend your country, defend your territory and defend your state. Defend yourselves because you have no other place to go. God bless our country.” 
 
The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and other individuals have since supported Danjuma’s call.

Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua will be up against New Zealand fighter, Joseph Parker on Saturday.

Joshua had yesterday weighed 17st 4lbs ahead of the heavyweight showdown. 
 
Both fighters will be putting their unbeaten records on the line in front of 80,000 fans in Cardiff, Wales. 
 
Their heavyweight world title belts will also on the line. 
 
While the 26-year-old Parker is putting his WBO belt on the line, Joshua, 28, is defending his WBA and IBF titles in a winner-takes-all fight. 
 
The fight is scheduled for today, March 31, 2018 at the Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. 
 
Joshua had successfully defended his titles against Carlos Takam at the same venue.

A-list celebrities, Tuface and Kate Henshaw have expressed displeasure at the seeming inability of the Buhari-led administration to secure lives of Nigerians against the destructive activities of Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen. They also frowned upon the abduction of Dapchi schoolgirls in Yobe State recently.

Benue State which is one of the flashpoints of the herdsmen/farmers clashes is very dear to the heart of Tuface, the African Queen creator. He told Saturday Beats that from all indications, the government is not doing much about the situation except to always, ‘condemn the killings.’ 
 
“The Federal Government is not doing anything at all, nothing has been done and as we speak, the herdsmen can attack anytime anyday. They would move on then the Federal Government would condemn the killing; that is all they do, to condemn the killing but nothing is being done. I feel terrible when I read about the senseless killings that daily take place in Benue. It is not about my state alone. It happens in other states as well and I sympathise with Nigerians. These people are just being lawless and the law enforcement agencies are doing nothing about it. As far as I can see, I have not seen any serious effort to address this issue. Nigerians are tired and angry but because we are peace-loving,  that is why Nigeria has not exploded and that is what these men are taking for granted. They know we would not do anything. Their case is like that of a man that keeps stepping on the tail of a tiger; one day he would see the trouble he is looking for.” 
 
He told Saturday Beats that he agrees with his state governor, Samuel Ortom, who has urged his people to defend themselves because they cannot continue to sit down while the herdsmen continue to plunge families into sorrow. “I agree that the people should arm themselves against future attacks because if your people are being killed and the government is not doing anything, you would not sit in one place like a sitting duck. You would have to arm yourself so that you would not fall victim to the attacks again. It is the only logical thing to do,” the singer said. 
 
He further condemned the government for suggesting the idea of amnesty for the members of the Boko Haram. To him, that is an admission of defeat by the government. “There is something that I do not understand, there are so many Nigerians who have graduated from school and they are finding it difficult to make a living; they are trying to make a positive impact but the government is not helping but it is those who kill and maim their fellow men that the government wants to grant amnesty, it just does not make sense. It is a very shameful situation and it means that the government has accepted defeat. They are sending a clear message that they cannot fish out the culprits. It just shows that they have accepted defeat. There is no other logical explanation,” he said. 
 
Tuface also opened up on why he opted out of the planned mass protest which he initiated in February last year. The singer said that he did not back down because he was threatened by anyone. He said he did not want lives to be lost as a result of his action. 
 
He said, “To be sincere, I was not threatened by anybody. When you want to embark on a mass protest, you have to do your due investigation as well as keep your ears to the ground. There were so many things that were already taking place few days to the day of the mass protest. We learnt that some people wanted to wreak havoc and change the course of what we wanted to achieve. It would have changed the message we wanted to pass across and I could not let that happen. That is why I decided that we leave the physical protest but it does not mean that we would stop challenging government and demanding accountability from them. It does not mean that we would stop talking if we see that something bad is happening. I always say, ‘one love’ and ‘peace,’ I would not want my name to be associated with any ugly outcome from such mass movement. I would not have been able to sleep. I respect all those that eventually came out and I was happy the protest was peaceful.” 
 
For actress Kate Henshaw who maintained the same stance with her colleague, she told Saturday Beats that it was puzzling that some set of people would take their cattle to another man’s land to graze only for them to kill the owner of the farm. She agreed that since the government had refused to do anything, the citizens should find a way to defend themselves. 
 
She said, “The people would have to defend themselves. I know it is crazy but we should be able to defend ourselves, our children and family. Whenever I read what is happening in Nigeria, it breaks my heart. I grew up seeing cattle where they had to be not that you had to create a special place for them. You can build ranches in the north where they are predominant. I don’t see why you need to invade people’s farms and then you kill the owners just because you want your cattle to eat. Since when have animals been more important than human beings? That is a question we need to ask ourselves.” 
 
 She added that it was a bad idea for the government to even consider granting amnesty to Boko Haram members. 
 
She also gave her two cents on the Christian Dapchi schoolgirl who is still in the captivity of the terror sect, “I don’t think the government should grant amnesty to members of Boko Haram. Have they paid penance for the wrongs they have done? Are they repentant? They have not even been punished for what they have done. When you do the crime, you do the time. They must be punished for what they have done first, then we can talk about amnesty. 
 
“It is very sad that other kidnapped Dapchi children have been released except one. The government should have pulled out all the stops to get that one last girl out to make sure that their release was wholesome because you cannot leave anyone behind. Every child, every citizen of this country deserves to move around freely without fear. If one person is still being held, then your job is not complete, you have not done anything. Also, why is it that it is a Christian girl that was left behind? I would not want to go into the religious aspect because I don’t want to go into something that would be divisive. She is a young girl and a human being,” Henshaw said.</div>

“With love and sacrifice there in empathy, understanding, tolerance and coexistence. We would indeed be united if we love one another. 
 
“Just as Christ taught us and as it is taught in Islam and many other religion, love is a virtue which conquers all, where there is love all other good virtues go along with it”. 
 
The former Aviation Minister said that Nigerians must also learn to give in helping the poor and the needy around them and avoid indulging in lavish celebrations while their neighbours go hungry, adding that Easter forms a good time for sober reflection, a time for moral reevaluation and a time to retrace ones steps. 
 
She said, “We must see the Easter as not just a time to celebrate the resurrection of Christ but a time to soberly reflect on the significance of his suffering death and resurrection and how well we are emulating the virtues he taught.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has imported 9.8 million metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth $5.8 billion to combat the fuel crisis that resurfaced since late last year.

This was disclosed by the Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, during a public hearing by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts today at the National Assembly Complex during the week in Abuja. 
 
In a presentation by the GMD who was represented by the Chief Operating Officer, Finance and Accounts, Mr. AbdulrazaqIsiaka, NNPC stated that it carried out the massive importation in fulfilment of its statutory role of supplier of last resort to ensure that Nigerians do not suffer as a result of product unavailability. 
 
According to the GMD, the corporation’s provision of 9.8 million metric tons of petrol so far has helped a great deal in ameliorating the suffering of Nigerians. 
 
He said the corporation’s intervention became necessary following the inability of the major and independent marketers to import the product because of the high landing cost which made cost recovery and profitability difficult owing to the regulated price regime. 
 
While assuring the public of adequate product supply, the GMD, however, pointed out that cross-border smuggling due to price disparity between Nigeria and neighbouring countries where a litre of petrol sells above N350 per litre as well as logistic issues in trucking products to different locations across the country remained serious challenges in the quest for fuel queue-free situation in the country. 
 
The Chairman Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Sen. Matthew Uroghide, noted that the public hearing was a part of the Committee’s duty to find lasting solutions to the problem of fuel scarcity in order to make life easy for all Nigerians.</div>

As Christians celebrated this year’s Easter, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged the people of the state to be hopeful that his administration would bring the menace of herdsmen in the state to an end to enable the thousands of internally displaced persons currently in eight camps across the state return home.

He assured the people of the state that his administration would continue to prioritize the security of lives, property and the general welfare of the people of the state. In a statement, the governor through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akas said, “the death and resurrection of Jesus which is the meaning of Easter is a period when Christians should draw closer to God so they can appreciate His abundant grace and mercy upon their lives in the face of adversities.” 
 
The Governor urged the people of the state to continue to show love to one another as Christ Jesus taught his followers. 
 
He, however, expressed worry over the increasing number of children and other categories of people in IDPs camps and called on other Nigerians as well corporate organisations to assist the state government in managing the humanitarian crisis. 
 
He admonished Benue people to pray for the innocent persons who recently lost their lives in Logo, Guma, Okpokwu and other parts of the state following herdsmen attacks and called for continuous trust in God that things would get better. 
 
“I am confident that we will overcome current economic and security challenges and our state will move onto the next level of development.”</div>

By now you must have heard that 17 groups from Northern Nigeria, including the Arewa Consultative Forum have told President Buhari point blank that he has failed and that they will not support his reelection.

I saw this coming way back on February 16, 2018, when Zamfara state Governor, Abdulaziz Yari lamented as follows after gunmen butchered his citizens like chicken in Zurmi. 
 
On that day, Yari, previously a rabid Buharist, said: 
 
“I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember the promise I made to them that when they elect President Muhammadu Buhari into power, these killings will end. But unfortunately, things are now getting worse.” 
 
This is just as Afenifere and Ohan’eze have both said ‘God forbid’ to a Buhari second term. 
 
When it seemed as though every strata of the Nigerian society, except the die hard serial sycophant, Nasir El-Rufai, has rejected the President, reprieve came his way when he was given a leadership award by the family of the late American civil rights hero, Martin Luther King Junior. 
 
For good measure, MLK’s family also appealed to Nigerians to reelect President Buhari. 
 
But whatever reprieve the President got turned out to be a Pyrrhic victory because exactly two days after the MLK family endorsement, the real family of Martin Luther King Junior, comprising his biological children, denied the so called ‘family’ they came to give President Buhari his ‘award’ and issued a strong denial. 
 
On March 28, 2018, the Martin Luther King Junior Center released a statement saying “The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center, at the request of The King Center or by the children of #MLK and #CorettaScottKing.” 
 
What an embarrassment to Nigeria! But should we be surprised? Muhammadu Buhari, the man who makes fake promises, commissions fake projects, gives fake plagiarized speeches has now been exposed as a recipient of fake awards. Nigerians should have known that a President who could not produce his WAEC certificate is susceptible to fakery! 
 
I was wondering how Martin Luther King Junior’s children will come to Nigeria to give an award to a tyrant! Their father had a dream and they came to Nigeria to associate with a nightmare? For what? Thank God they have denounced the award as fake! 
 
It seems our President is now scandal prone because just before this incident, he had another scandal involving Bill Gates. 
 
Apparently, President Buhari had invited Bill Gates to the Presidential Villa for the National Economic Council meeting, thinking Mr. Gates would praise him, but instead he got the shock of his life when his guest criticized his handling of the economy, saying it does not reflect the needs of Nigerians and that his economic blueprint lacks choreography. He then went on to describe Nigeria as “one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth”! 
 
But harsh as his statement may have been, Bill Gates did not say the whole truth. 
 
Yes, it is true that Nigeria, under Buhari, is the worst place in the world to be born. But it is only true if you are a human being. 
 
If you are a cow, then Nigeria is like paradise. Humans can be killed so that you can live. Under Buhari, the value of human life has fallen and the value of cattle life has risen! In fact, the Buhari government loves cattle so much that they want to take land from human beings to give it to cattle to colonize! 
 
After reading Mr. Gates uncharacteristically blunt rebuke, I could not help but remember that it was just like yesterday that Buhari was crying in 2011 for Nigeria as if he knew the solutions to Nigeria’s problems. He deceived Nigerians and they made him President only to discover that he himself was Nigeria’s problem. Just like PHCN, problem has changed name to Buhari! 
 
I have said it before and I will say it again, former President Jonathan might have made mistakes (tell me which human being does not make mistakes) but President Buhari himself is a mistake. Jonathan may have faced one or two problems, especially with Boko Haram, but Buhari is himself a problem! 
 
Talking about Boko Haram, observant Nigerians cannot help but notice that these days, you read, hear and watch about Boko Haram’s plans from government officials. Does Boko Haram still need an official spokesman again? It is from a government official that we learnt that Boko Haram would release or not #DapchiGirls. It is from their mouths we heard that Boko Haram is showing ‘goodwill’. 
 
It was the minister of information that was trying to convince us that Boko Haram released #DapchiGirls out of the goodness of their heart without insisting on a ransom or prisoner swap. I am tempted to ask whose information minister Lai Mohammed is? Nigeria’s or Boko Haram? What an interesting time to be alive. 
 
And to show how low Nigeria has sunk under Buhari, the APC Governor of Lagos declared Thursday a public holiday to celebrate Buhari’s visit to Lagos on Thursday March 28, 2018. 
 
Lagos has a GDP of $100 billion per annum. By shutting the state down, Lagos loses $250 million. Do you now see why our economy collapsed under Buhari? More attention is given to Buhari’s ego than to economic matters. It is behaviour like this that has caused 10 million Nigerians to lose their jobs under Buhari! 
 
Lagos state recently borrowed $200 million. Now she is losing $250 million because of the public holiday declared for Buhari’s visit. That money can build 10 new hospitals and 100 new schools and 10,000 bore holes. But instead, the APC prefers to waste it on a public holiday for Buhari! 
 
When Bill Gates said President Buhari prioritizes physical capital over human capital, people like Nasir El-Rufai, Buhari’s favourite court jester, came out to attack him. But just a week after Mr Gates apple truth to power, Buhari is going to Lagos and the APC government declared a public holiday tomorrow for him. Does this not vindicate Bill Gates? 
 
By preventing workers and businesses from opening for business for one day, the government is setting back human capital just for the physical capital of opening a bus stop. This is a pure example of why Bill Gates said Buhari prioritizes physical capital over human capital. 
 
And this is the same Lagos state that is aggressively looking for funds, so much so that it has jacked up the Land Use Charges to ridiculous levels. This is the same state that is shutting itself down and losing the $250 million that it accrues to its GDP on a daily basis! I just hope Governor Ambode will not try to recoup these lost revenue by increasing other charges. 
 
And to show you how backward Buhari is, 34 years ago he canceled an underground railway train project (metroline) for Lagos state as a military dictator, then 34 years later he returns to the same Lagos to commission a bus station? It is like putting your ₦1 million in fixed deposit for 34 years and returning to collect ₦1,000! I would have been so disappointed if Lagosians turned out to celebrate this retrogression passed off as progress. Thank God my Lagos peeps are smarter than that. 
 
In fact, the Buhari administration should be filmed and shown as a drama series on Africa Magic channel. Their hourly drama is more entertaining than any drama Africa Magic currently shows. The infighting in the government and the APC will put Wrestle Mania to shame. The backstabbing and hypocrisy is another thing! 
 
The other day, it was the President himself who told us of the incompetency and insubordination of his own Inspector General of Police who refused his direct order to relocate to Benue State. 
 
What punitive action did he take against IGP Idris? None. 
 
Then on Wednesday March 28, 2019, Nigerians woke up to hear that suspected assassins who had allegedly ‘confessed’ to have been hired by Senator Dino Melaye had escaped from police detention. 
 
The reaction of the IGP was almost immediate. He removed the Kogi state commissioner of police. 
 
The irony of an incompetent IGP sacking an incompetent commissioner of police for letting suspects escape though. At least, the IGP is doing what Buhari should have done to him but lacked the balls to do. The most consistent things in Buhari’s government are incompetence and confusion. 
 
Just look at the inconsistencies of the Buhari administration with regards to the anti terror war. You claim you defeated Boko Haram, then try to borrow $1 billion to defeat the defeated Boko, then the defeated Boko Haram kidnap (allegedly) and release #DapchiGirls, you announce ceasefire with the defeated Boko Haram, following which you offer the defeated Boko Haram amnesty. Your minister of information then goes on air to preside a defeated Boko Haram of showing ‘goodwill’. Is your head spinning yet? 
 
Well, let me spin your head some more by quoting a letter written by Lai Mohammed, the current minister of information. He wrote this letter on April 18, 2013: 
 
: “We have been compelled to write a letter to the Lagos State governor asking him to please prevail on the President to reschedule his visit. But if his visit must go on, he should use another means of transportation such as the helicopter so that the whole town is not locked up. 
 
Anytime Mr President is coming to Lagos, our roads are closed, and traffic congestion is at its highest. The whole city is shut down for the entire day. You can imagine when we’re expecting about 10,000 people from different parts of Nigeria to our convention, all heading for the same place. It’s going to be chaos. So, we’re appealing to Mr President, through the Governor, to please reconsider his visit. And if he must come, he should inflict the minimum pain and hardship on Nigerians.”-Lai Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary, of the All Progressive Congress.

The Coalition for Nigeria Movement led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked Nigerians to be wary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government as it has corrupted security agencies ahead of the 2019 general elections.

It said the statement by a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), that the military was colluding with unscrupulous individuals should not be dismissed. 
 
The spokesman for the CNM, Mr. Akin Osuntokun, said this while responding to allegations by heads of security agencies that there was a plot by some groups to disrupt the 2019 general elections. 
 
The Directors-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Daura; and National Intelligence Agency, Mr. Ahmed Rufa’I as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, had raised the alarm over the plans by some groups to disrupt the processes leading to the 2019 elections. 
 
The evil plan, according to them, was for the groups to create a stalemate during the elections. 
 
However, Osuntokun told one of our correspondents that the security heads were acting out the script of the All Progressives Congress. 
 
He said, “It all sounds funny to me. I don’t know any group that meets that description but why would anyone want to disrupt the 2019 elections? The only people that would want to disrupt the elections are the APC which has sensed its imminent defeat. 
 
“If what Gen. Danjuma said is true whereby our protectors have become murderers, then it means they are the ones that should be feared. They are the ones that should be suspected. 
 
“If you can extrapolate from what Gen. Danjuma said, that means Nigerians are at the mercy of the government or the army that is colluding. The people we should fear are (those in ) the government.” 
 
Osuntokun said it was unfortunate that the heads of security agencies were serving a ‘conspiratorial parochial agenda’ as they were protecting the President’s ethnic base. 
 
He added, “Where is the need to reserve the command of the Nigerian military and security services exclusively for the ethno-religious base of the President if it is not to serve a conspiratorial parochial agenda? 
 
“The only group that fits this description of a fictitious fifth columnist agenda is the government itself.”

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere; a Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed; and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, among others, came down heavily on the Federal Government over the release of a looters’ list containing just six names.

They described the list as laughable while accusing the government and the All Progressives Congress of spreading propaganda and lies. 
 
The Federal Government on Friday made good its promise to release to Nigerians the list containing names of alleged treasury looters. 
 
The list which was released by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Lagos, on Friday,  identified the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus;  former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh; and the Chairman of DAAR Communications, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, as some of the people who looted the treasury. 
 
Also on the list were the names of Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan; a cousin of former President Jonathan, Robert Azibaola; and an unnamed former PDP Financial Secretary. 
 
In July 2017, the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), said the Federal Government would publish the names of treasury looters intermittently after it must have met some conditions. 
 
This was after a Federal High Court in Lagos gave a ruling compelling the Federal Government to “immediately release to Nigerians information about the names of high-ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered and the circumstances under which funds were recovered, as well as the exact amount of funds recovered from each public official.” 
 
The Federal Government, through The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had on June 4, 2016, disclosed that it had recovered cash sums of N78,325,354,631.82, $185,119,584.61, £3,508,355.46 and €11,250, among others, between May 29, 2015, and May 25, 2016. 
 
Twenty-two months after, the information minister released a list with six names. 
 
The information minister said, “The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology to Nigerians. 
 
“Let’s just give them a teaser with this list: PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus, (on the 19th of February, 2015, he took N200m only from the office of the then National Security Adviser); the then PDP Financial Secretary (on the 24th of October, 2014, he took N600m only from the office of the then NSA); the then National Publicity Secretary, Olisah Metuh, (on trial for collecting N1.4bn from the office of the then NSA. 
 
“Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of DAAR Communications, (on trial for taking N2.1bn from the office of the then NSA); former SSA to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, (on trial over N830m kept in accounts of four different companies); former President Jonathan’s cousin, Robert Azibaola, (on Thursday, a Federal High Court ruled that he has a case to answer for collecting $40m from the office of the then NSA.)” 
 
Mohammed, who stated that the list was just a tip of the iceberg, said, “We did not make these cases up. Many of these cases are in court and the records are available. Some of the people on this list are seeking plea bargain, and that is a fact. 
 
“We insist that Nigeria was looted blind under the watch of the PDP, and that the starting point in tendering an apology is for them to return the loot. It’s like a robber admitting to stealing your car and apologising, but then saying he will keep the car anyway. It doesn’t work that way.” 
 
The information minister described the PDP as a hypocrite, saying, “The PDP is a hypocrite. And that reminds me of what English writer, William Hazlitt, said, ‘’The only vice that cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy.’’ 
 
He vowed that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government would not stop talking about the massive looting under the PDP. 
 
“They brought Nigeria to this sorry pass. We are now looking around for loans to build infrastructure, and they ask us not to talk about it. We will talk about it,” Mohammed added. 
 
But the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, accused the Federal Government of spreading propaganda and playing politics with the matter, even though, he said it would be good for Nigeria to get to a point where people found to have stolen public funds were named and shamed. 
 
“We should get to a point where we should have a culture of naming and shaming of those who pilfer funds but what Mohammed and the government are doing is very funny. They have been talking about fighting corruption and recovering money, so after three years, it is only six names they could bring out. And even then by our law, an accused person is presumed innocent until found guilty. For now, you can call them alleged looters, not looters because the court has yet to convict them.” 
 
Odumakin also noted that none of the politicians in the current government or those who defected from other parties to the APC and have been accused of corruption was on the list. 
 
He said, “All they are doing is just playing cheap politics with their so-called anti-corruption war; the truth is that there is no war going on anywhere. It is just propaganda. And a minister of the government should not be engaged in this type of shenanigan. The APC can be playing this kind of politics but it is too low for the government to be playing this kind of politics.” 
 
Also, a Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, described the APC’s short list of names of alleged looters as an “anticlimax” after about three years of talking about fighting corruption and looting of public funds. 
 
He said, “I think Mohammed, his party and the President are guilty of the lies that they have been telling Nigerians. If indeed all the noise that has been made concerns only about five people, then something is wrong and I am certainly disappointed. So you are telling me that for the three years that you have been talking about corruption and promising to release the names of looters, you have been talking about only five people. 
 
“If indeed they only had evidence that there are about five people who are responsible for our economic woes, then that to me sounds like a monumental anti-climax. There are quite a number of people who I believe are thieves and there is a substantial and overwhelming evidence against them and I believe the money they stole is known to people in the Presidency, the government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. If they cannot recover the money, then forget about Nigeria, it is finished. And I don’t believe Lai Mohammed because he has lied so many times and if his own idea of politics is to abuse his position and lie to the people, then we are in a very serious trouble because the whole thing is cynical, untrue and you begin to wonder who is to be believed because this government is not believable.” 
 
Similarly, the President, Ijaw Youth Council, Mr. Eric Omare, described the government’s action as “ridiculous and childish.” 
 
“This is because, under the laws of this country, anybody that is accused of committing an offence is presumed to be innocent until the person is found guilty by the court of law. So when you say somebody is a looter, it is a pronouncement that the person is guilty. 
 
“And none of the names on the list has been convicted. Even this week, Azibaola was cleared of most of the charges against him by the court. So how could you release the name of that person as a looter? So it simply shows that the anti-corruption war of Buhari’s government is failing and so, it’s just struggling to save its face. It didn’t meet the expectation of Nigerians and that list should be dismissed with a wave of the hand; it doesn’t make sense.” 
 
Also, the President, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Malachy Ugwummadu, described the list as an insult on the intelligence of Nigerians. 
 
He said if the Federal Government was serious about total anti-corruption war, it should also “look inwards” and name ex-PDP chieftains who were now in the APC. 
 
Furthermore, he said conviction and prosecution of looters were the real proof of any anti-corruption fight. 
 
On whether it was right for the Federal Government to have named persons whose corruption cases were already in court, Ugwummadu described it as an issue that was neither “here nor there”. 
 
He said, “If the persons listed view it as name-dropping, they could sue for defamation; justification is the total defence to defamation. But I think what happened was that the Federal Government succumbed to pressure in releasing the list. 
 
“What is important for the Federal Government to make Nigerians think it is serious about anti-corruption war is if it looks inwards and name those alleged of corruption who defected from the PDP to the APC.” 
 
We’re not looters, say Dudafa, Azibaola 
 
Dudafa, whose name was on the looters’ list and who is currently standing trial before a Federal High Court in Lagos, pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against him by the EFCC. 
 
The former Presidential aide said everything he did was under the instruction of President Jonathan and his wife. 
 
He said, “I was the Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Affairs and I received instructions from my boss. I never had powers to give instructions but I could relay instructions to aides in the Presidency, including Festus and Peter. 
 
“I relayed instructions from the former president and his wife to the aides. Several instructions were given, including the one involving money but they were all relayed on behalf of the former President and his wife. 
 
“I was the only one that had access to the bedroom of the former President and if he gave me instructions, I had to carry them out. The physical handing over of the money was done by me; though, I was relaying an instruction.” 
 
Azibaola, whose name was also on the list, pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges involving the sum of $40m which he was accused of receiving fraudulently from the Office of the NSA in 2014. His wife is also facing trial with him. 
 
Their counsel, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), had, however, denied the charges on their behalf while arguing their no-case submission before the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 16, 2018. 
 
Uche insisted while arguing the no-case submission that the sum of $40m was paid to his clients from a legitimate source with all the due process followed. 
 
The trial judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, on Thursday, upheld the no-case submission in part by striking out seven of the nine amended charges instituted against the defendants by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. 
 
The judge also discharged and acquitted Azibaola’s wife of the two remaining charges. 
 
The judge ordered Azibaola and his company, One Plus Nigeria Limited, to enter their defence against the two remaining charges on June 4.</div>

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, have traded words over the Kaduna State government’s $350m World Bank loan request which was declined by the Senate on Thursday.

Both el-Rufai and Sani took to their social media accounts on Friday to express their opposing views on the rejection. 
 
The Senate had declined the request based on the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, a move which was supported by the three senators from Kaduna State. 
 
The committee had recommended that the facility should be disapproved as it would worsen the debt profile of the state. 
 
Sani, who is the committee chairman, while presenting the report of the committee on the loan, had also said if the loan facility was approved, the people of the state who were 50 years old would be 75 years old by the end of the repayment tenure. 
 
He added that while the debt profile of Kaduna State was $232.1m between 1960 and 2018, the state’s debt stock would rise to $582.1m under el-Rufai’s administration alone. 
 
The other two lawmakers from Kaduna State, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC, Kaduna-North) and Danjuma La’ah (PDP, Kaduna-South), had also expressed their outright opposition to the request and criticised el-Rufai’s administration. 
 
Speaking on his social media accounts on Friday, Sani said, “If you borrow money that you can pay (back), you are a businessman; if you borrow money that you can’t pay (back), you are a slave. 
 
“They will leave for their children mansions to inherit; they will leave for your children debt to inherit. 
 
“They will leave for their children credit to inherit; they will leave for your children debit to inherit. 
 
“They want to auction the children of the poor to Mr. Breton Woods in order to secure a comfortable life for their children.” 
 
The governor later took to his official Facebook page to describe Sani, Hunkuyi and La’ah as the clog in the wheel of progress of Kaduna State. 
 
He said, “Having checked our laws, our accounts and our performance, the World Bank was convinced that Kaduna State merits their support. 
 
“Therefore, on June 20, 2017, the World Bank announced that it had decided to provide a budget support facility of $350m to Kaduna State, but the three senators from Kaduna State blocked this opportunity to provide decent investments in human capital development. 
 
“The good people of Kaduna State should recognise the people who are clogs to the progress of the state.”

Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state on Friday directed security agents to shoot and kill anyone caught carrying firearms in the state.

Yari gave the order in Anka when he visited the emir to condole with the emirate over the killing of over 30 persons by gunmen in Bawan Daji village of Anka local government area of the state. 
 
He said “this is an order from the president and from the governor of the state.” 
 
According to him, “we cannot continue to watch criminals as a parallel government, doing what they want and carrying sophisticated firearms, maiming and killing innocent citizens in the state.” 
 
The governor further directed for the disbandment of five communities and the removal of the village and district heads of the affected communities in the emirate with immediate effect as they were accused of harbouring bandits. 
 
He said that any person or group found associating with bandits should also not be spared but treated as the firearms carriers and bandits. 
 
Responding, the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad said “we need more security personnel who are also committed to carry out their responsibility effectively. 
 
The emir reiterated that the people had no problem of herders/farmers clashes at the moment. 
 
“What we are facing is armed banditry by trigger happy criminals who attack innocent rural dwellers and steal their cash and property, ” he said. 
 
Newsmen recalled that Bawan Daji village was attacked by bandits for two consecutive days, (last Tuesday and Wednesday) where they killed over 30 people.</div>

“We are under pressure that requires only truth and sincerity of purpose from critical stakeholders to survive”, he said.

The group said Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa should be concerned with coming clean on the alleged scam Martin Luther King Jr’s leadership award instead of using unprofessional languages on live radio programme. 
 
According to the group, “Our attention has just been drawn to a statement made by the Senior Special Assistant to the president on Foreign Relations and Diaspora Affairs, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa. 
 
“Mrs. Abike Dabiri, during a live radio program on Ray Power FM, referred to our convener, Deji Adeyanju as an ‘Idiot’ for exposing the scam called Martin Luther King Jr’s leadership award conferred on president Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
“An unrefined Statement like this is unbefitting of the Office Abike Dabiri occupies. 
 
“We find it amusing that instead of clarifying to Nigerians on the sham award, the senior special assistant to the President, in her usual condescending way of responding to issues of national importance, resorted to insults and petty name calling. 
 
“Abike Dabiri refused to apologize to our convener, Deji Adeyanju when the anchor of the program, Political Platform, Amaechi Anakwe, asked her to retract her statement that it is unprofessional and not a broadcast language. 
 
“It is baffling that Abike Dabiri-Erewa, with her wealth of experience as a broadcast journalist, would, on a live radio program, be so boorish and uncouth. 
 
“You would recall that our organization, Concerned Nigerians, had issued a statement condemning foremost American Civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr’s family and center for conferring on President Buhari, a leadership award as this was a sharp contrast to what the late civil rights activist lived, stood and died for. 
 
“We also call on the president to investigate Abike Dabiri over alleged media reports that $3m was purportedly paid for the Fake MLK award conferred on the president. 
 
“We wish to further point out the incompetence of Abike Dabiri and her team for not being able to verify the authenticity of the award thereby embarrassing the country and our president before the international community. 
 
“After several calls and text messages to Martin Luther King’s Centre on the veracity of the purported award conferred on the president, the Centre replied through their official verified twitter handle by saying; “The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center, at the request of The King Center or by the children of #MLK and #CorettaScottKing. @MrFixNigeria” 
 
“The senior special assistant should immediately tender an unreserved apology to our convener for belittling her office by using a foul language on a citizen whose only crime is to ask for accountability and transparency from the government. 
 
“Moreover, we are calling on the president, Muhammadu Buhari ,to immediately sack Abike Dabiri-Erewa for inappropriate behavior and incompetence.”</div>

Recall that Femi Adesina, Media and Publicity aide to Buhari, had said that the president is yet to indicate interest for 2019 presidential election. 
 
A statement purposely ignored by some die-hard Buhari supporters called ‘The Buharist’.  According to Adesina, “Buharism is a Philosophy of Selfless Service, Sacrifice, Integrity and Character in Nation Building”. The Buharists on the other hand are those who believe in selfless services rendered by Buhari. 
 
In her words, the Social media aide to Buhari, Mrs Lauretta Onochie, said, “Buharists are Volunteers. They never put pressure on their principal to divert funds meant for infrastructures to them.  They support Mr. President to achieve for the nation. Buharists are patriotic. They are selfless. Their interest is the well being of Nigerians.” 
 
In view of the above therefore, it is worthy to note that since the assumption of Buhari as a democratically elected president in 2015, his services to Nigerians have always been described as selfless and sacrifice, respectively.

The Presidency has explained that the visit of the Martin Luther King family led by the family’s Matriarch, Naomi Barbara King, where a commemorative plague was given to President Muhammadu Buhari for his fight against corruption was a private visit and was not funded by the Nigerian government.

The presidency also noted that it was after two days in the country, one of the members of the delegation granted interview to journalists where he had solicited support for President Buhari to continue in office so as to rid the country of corruption which some members of the MLK family viewed as political and had asked him to refute but he has refused to refute his call for the President’s support. 
 
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign and Diaspora Matters, Hon. Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement in Abuja, urged the public to discountenance any fake news about the visit and avoid the temptation of destroying all the good things for the sake of Politics . 
 
The statement which was signed by Abdurrahman Balogun, Special Assistant to Hon. Dabiri-Erewa with the title, “Martin Luther King Family visit to Nigeria: The Facts”, expressed shock over what it described as fake online news reports on the visit. 
 
The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to obviously fake on line news reports on the visit of some members of the MLK family to Nigeria. 
 
“The members, led by the Matriarch of MLK, Naomi Barbara King, were in Nigeria as part of the activities initiated to celebrate a low- key Black History Month in Nigeria as part of deepening partnership between Africa and its Diaspora. 
 
“As part of the activities, they visited President Muhammadu Buhari and gave him a commemorative plaque for his fight against corruption and what they termed from the “ Africania Diaspora” a term for Africans in Diaspora for which the oldest of them all Naomi Barbara King was selected to present on behalf of the family (NOT MLK CENTER) as a sign of appreciation to the Nigerian President. 
 
“It must be categorically stated here that the trip was totally privately funded and not one kobo was spent by the Nigerian government as it was all a private initiative. 
 
“However, after two days in Nigeria, one of the members apparently granted an interview which was seen as being political , asking Nigerians to give President Muhammadu Buhari a chance to continue his good works especially of fighting corruption in Nigeria. 
 
“As a non political group , he was asked to refute the statement , which he refused to , insisting that was how he felt , and it was his personal opinion, not that of the family nor the centre, of which he is a board member and was the Chief Operating Officer for over five years. 
 
“This may have led to some arguements among them , which they have said they will resolve when they get back to the US., which apparently led to the tweet being circulated 
 
“The visit to Nigeria was quite successful that they extended their stay for two major days, surprised at the negative reports on Nigeria. 
 
“Members of the public are hereby urged to please discountenance any fake news about the visit and avoid the temptation of destroying all the good things for the sake of Politics. 
 
“President Muhammadu Buhari achievement in the fight against corruption is undeterred and sacrosanct.” 
 
The social media has been awash since Thursday over the award of the MLK family to President Buhari as commentators and aggrieved Nigerians accused some of the presidential aides of being behind the award allegedly procured by the government for cheap political gain. 
 
This development appeared to have jolted The King Centre which hitherto on Wednesday dissociated itself through its twitter handle. 
 
A statement released via @TheKingCenter stated, “The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center at the request of The King Center or by the children of #MLK and CorettaScottKing.” 
 
With the clarifications from the MLK family, there were litany of comments suggesting that the Nigeria government may have procured the award. An online platform, LeadersNG, on Thursday published that the Nigerian government might have paid up to $3 million to procure what it described as ‘fake award’ for the president.</div>

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday expressed appreciation to foreign and local investors that agreed to invest in Nigeria.

Buhari, who unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit to the Eko Atlantic City project, expressed his appreciation to investors after being shown round the project by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State. 
 
He said that their investment had helped to provide employment for Nigerians, reducing the rate of unemployment in the country. 
 
“I am extremely grateful to those that agreed to invest so much in our country. 
 
“I have just gone round to see the Eko Atlantic City. I am extremely impressed with the potentiality of this project and the amount of jobs and its effect on the economy and what it is capable of bringing,’’ Buhari said. 
 
The President, while expressing his satisfaction with the ocean reclamation by the state government and its partners, said that the investment had impacted on the country’s economy. 
 
Earlier, Ambode said that the project was an example of what the private sector could do to the nation’s economy. 
 
Ambode, who said the project was initiated by the Bola Tinubu administration, noted that it had actually saved the whole of Victoria Island. 
 
He said that the project, which would spread over 750 square kilometers, upon completion, would eventually be bigger than Victoria Island. 
 
In an interview with newsmen, Tinubu, who accompanied the President on the tour, described the Eko Atlantic City project as a solution to a potentially dangerous liability. 
 
According to Tinubu, the ocean surge at the Ahmadu Bello end could have wiped out the whole of Lagos Island. 
 
He, however, advised the Federal Government to replicate the project on the nation’s coastline. 
 
The inspection marked the end of Buhari’s two-day visit to the state.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has described the dead Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Buba Jubril as an upright man.

In a condolence message to the family, the Speaker said that the fallen leader was a committed and hardworking lawmaker. 
 
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, his wives, children, relations, his constituents and people of Kogi State. 
 
“Hon. Buba was an upright man, a leader per excellence, a patriotic, committed and hardworking lawmaker, worthy representative. 
 
“He was a one time speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly 
 
“He will greatly be missed by all. May his gentle rest in peace”. 
 
Until his demise in the early hours of Friday, after a protracted illness, Jubril represented Lokoja/Koto federal constituency of Kogi State. 
 
He was also a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly. 
 
He will be buried later today in Lokoja after the jummat prayer.</div>

The Federal Government has announced plans to embark on massive exportation of goods using the Lekki Deep Seaport when it becomes operational in 2021.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo stated this on Thursday while inaugurating the Lekki Deep Seaport project in Lagos. 
 
He explained that the development of the Lekki Deep Seaport was critical to the creation of special economic zones, which would serve as models for others across the country. 
 
He said, “In the past two budgets, we have provided an average growth of N90bn for development of SEZs and we are developing the special Lekki economic zone as a model for other economic zones specifically targeting export.” 
 
He noted that the ceremony was a landmark event towards driving the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery Growth Plan and the present administration’s emphasis on supporting game changing infrastructure projects directed at making major impact on trade and commerce 
 
 He said, “We were told by the promoters of this project that they are targeting about 1.5 million 20 feet equivalent unit container capacity annually, which we expect to grow to about 2.7 million and 4.7 million TEUs when the project operations commence. With this feat, the Lekki Deep Seaport will be one of the largest deep water seaports in our region and serve as a hub for port operations in the whole of West Africa.’ 
 
“We have been told that very large crude carriers will now be able to visit the port and greater efficiency and economies of scale will generate significant economic revenue for the Nigerian economy with the Federal Government earning a significant portion.” 
 
According to him, the event was also a reflection of the government’s commitment to economic philosophy to private sector leadership to achieve economic development, stressing that the business of government is to contribute by way of equity where necessary, but more importantly, create the enabling environment for the private sector to do business. 
 
“We must move ahead with ensuring the speedy completion of this project; there will be problems, but we assure you that the federal and state governments will be with you every step of the way to ensure that we give all the support required to make this dream come to fruition,” he stated. 
 
Earlier, the Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, represented by the Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Idiat Adebule, said the maritime sector had the potential to become a major revenue earner with significant contribution to the Gross Domestic Product of Nigeria. 
 
He said the Lekki Deep Seaport had an adequate space for container storage with modern equipment to facilitate port operations and would tremendously relieve Apapa and Tincan ports of pressure. 
 
He said the port would impact greatly on the development of the Lekki free trade zone while also commending the promoters of the project for their confidence in choosing Nigeria as an investment destination. 
 
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said the Lekki seaport would be the first deep seaport in Nigeria and give the country the ability to receive very large crude carriers. 
 
He added the ability to accommodate large vessels would the nation a regional hub. 
 
“I hope this would help us generate outward cargoes because we have been having problems in raising outward cargoes. We must also work hard to make sure that we send out commodities to other countries.” 
 
The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Usman, said the project was in line the with Federal Government’s commitment to promote private investment. 
 
She said that the NPA fully paid share capital of five per cent, which was the minimum investment enough to give the private investor confidence, without having undue interference as a regulator. 
 
She said the vision of the NPA was to provide an enabling environment for the operators, stressing that Nigeria being the largest exporter and importer of cargo in West Africa subregion required a deep seaport, which would receive large vessels. 
 
“These big ships move cargo more efficiently. We will work with all stakeholders to see the deep seaport become a world-class facility,” she said. 
 
The Managing Director, Tolaram Group, Haresh Aswani, said the project would change the future of the nation’s maritime sector and serve as a catalyst for economic development and the general well-being of Nigerians. 
 
He said when completed, it would create about 170,000 direct and indirect jobs while also generating about N360bn under the concession including over N200m in tax revenue for both the Lagos State Government and Federal Government.</div>
