<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="454" data-original-width="644" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn9kpKHjhVGjkn_zzn6kbiNHDkQ4vciBNB5AHquKTiSvqPCKkP4ZwUZdpMdjdaH3ENNIbVvmTI6R7TroiN4Vd1o8hgyOVtjQweSWogzcgQyXj-ihuYkro_JGE4ekEQ5kDnwu__A85bA1GU/s400/Babajide-Sanwoolu-1-800x564.jpg" width="400" /></div> <br /> Lagos State All Progressive Congress Governorship (APC) Candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu has won the polling unit of his Alliance for Democracy (AD) counterpart, Owolabi Salis, in Aturanse Estate, Phase 11, Gbadada, Lagos.<br /> <br /> The result was announced by the Presiding Officer of the unit, Mr. Rasak at about 6: 15 pm.<br /> <br /> He said Sanwo-Olu polled 102 to beat his closet rival, the governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Jimi Agbaje who clinched 60.<br /> <br /> Salis scored 13 while the candidate of All Democratic Party, (ADP) Rasheed Gbadamosi scored 6<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Also, APC won the House of Assembly, Kosofe Constituency seat at the polling unit with 102 votes to PDP’s 63, AD’s 8 and ADP’s 4.<br /> <br /> Salis said he would accept the overall results of the election if it was free and fair.<br /> <br /> He said the election generally had been adjudged to be peaceful in parts of Lagos, except in Mushin and Ogudu where he alleged ballot papers were missing.<br /> <br /> Salis said: “In my polling unit, there has not been incidence of ballot snatching and vote buying.<br /> <br /> “They are elites who have conducted themselves in a peaceful manner”.<br /> <br /> He added: “Though, I cannot talk about other places but on the field, information reaching me was that the election so far has been free and fair.<br /> <br /> “However, my concern is at the collation centres, if there are obvious cases of fraudulent practices, I will contest this election in court.”<br /> <br /> The gubernatorial candidate lamented the low turn of voters across the state, which he noted was not the best for the growth of democracy in Nigeria.<br /> <br /> He said that out of 777, 000 registered voters in Alimosho Area of Lagos, less than 11 per cent voted in the presidential and national assembly election.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMKNV97BKCMxJ0EsNmoQ9H4cPzabeeJbizmpPOzrFLoZI9MQE5J91i_XZ8BuifN8UxoNMZEb1mxeoNnhRlJEEQX_Xr50ofeVtddyOePwTzOOt0rnrlelx06y1zkusEAyqETWiM-dg-V-8V/s1600/nysc+jungle+boot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="690" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMKNV97BKCMxJ0EsNmoQ9H4cPzabeeJbizmpPOzrFLoZI9MQE5J91i_XZ8BuifN8UxoNMZEb1mxeoNnhRlJEEQX_Xr50ofeVtddyOePwTzOOt0rnrlelx06y1zkusEAyqETWiM-dg-V-8V/s320/nysc+jungle+boot.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) members used as ad hoc staff in Bwari Area Council on Saturday decried the non-payment of election allowance by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<br /> <br /> Some of the Corp members, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja expressed disappointment over the treatment they got during the elections.<br /> <br /> Mr Bako Miracle, the Assistant Presiding Officers said that some of his colleagues had not been paid for the presidential election and the feeding allowance for Saturday’s election.<br /> <br /> He said that the commission got their account numbers after the last election to credit them with N3,000 as feeding allowance, which some of them were not even aware they were meant to have.<br /> <br /> “This particular election, we were told that they will pay us ₦4,000 as feeding allowance, which we are yet to receive and some of our colleagues in other councils got theirs on Friday ahead of today’s exercise,” he said.<br /> <br /> However, Anyanele Onyekachi a Presiding Officer at Dawaki said that since the presidential election, he was yet to be given any allowance for the election.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> He said that the actual amount was ₦10,000 to be paid but ₦4,000 was earmarked as feeding allowance, which had not been paid.<br /> <br /> “Some of our colleagues got their money but majority of us in this council did not get and we were not given tangible reasons for not being paid.<br /> <br /> “We were told that our details were forwarded to the central bank and we asked them for the duplicate payment sent to CBN but they refused, saying it was not our business.<br /> <br /> “Our feeding allowance for today’s election was not also given to us while some people in other areas got yesterday.”<br /> <br /> Onyekachi said that the treatment the Corp members got at the 2019 elections was not satisfactory, adding that most of the things expected at the polling unit to make them comfortable were not provided.<br /> <br /> He said that items such as tables, chairs and canopies to be used for the elections and other electoral materials were not provided at each polling units.<br /> <br /> NAN reports that the Chairmanship and Councillorship election at Dutse Ward was characterised by very low turnout, especially at Katampe Extension Polling Unit 004F were it had zero vote.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile at the News Engineering Dawaki Polling Unit 004D, there were only 29 voters as against the 538 voters, who were accredited at the presidential polls.<br /> <br /> The Dawaki Village Head, Chief Joshua Adagami said he was surprised about the low turnout of voters, particularly in Dawaki.<br /> <br /> “There are eight polling units in Dawaki and I only know four of those units because INEC didn’t consult community head to know the viable areas the units should be located,’’ he said.<br /> <br /> “Some people don’t even know that there is election in Abuja except for states, because even residents here don’t even know the various candidates contesting at the council.’’<br /> <br /> He however said that polling unit should be strategised and placed close to a leader’s house to help mobilise people to come out and vote, especially at the grassroots level.

But the lawmaker decided to keep going. His vehicle was attacked and the windshield broken.<br /> <br /> Supporters of Mr Elliot at a nearby polling unit, PU20, Ward 7, Surulere, quickly called in reinforcement to rescue the lawmaker.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Immediately he was rescued, thugs shot sporadically into the air, creating an even more tense atmosphere.<br /> <br /> In a quick response, however, police officers attached to the nearby polling unit called in armed reinforcement who arrived to calm the situation.<br /> <br /> Ad-hoc staffers of the electoral commission, INEC, were advised by security personnel to conclude their vote counting early before the situation escalates.

That detail could not be immediately confirmed.<br /> <br /> Mr Eze’s candidacy was confirmed on Thursday by the Court of Appeal after the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court ordered his replacement by fellow APC contender, George Ogara.<br /> <br /> Mr Eze boycotted the election on Saturday as some of his supporters also refused to vote, calling a rescheduling of the election to allow their candidate campaign.<br /> <br /> Police Spokesperson, Ebere Amarizu, said a local election observer was shot, but told newsmen that details of the incident were not immediately available.<br /> <br /> He said investigations were ongoing to identify who the shooters were and the state of the victim.<br /> <br /> “We are currently investigating to ascertain the shooters and the cause of the shooting,” he said. “We cannot say whether he is still alive or if he is dead. But because the storeroom behind the building is very close to the fence, obviously we saw some footprints because of the rain yesterday , so it was very clear where they came in through to do the sabotage.<br /> <br /> “So, what were destroyed there were just card readers, the registered voters list and ballot boxes. So that is what happened. But the good news is because the entire ballot papers are intact, so what we are trying to do is basically trying to mop up our card readers as I speak to you, from the entire polling unit. You know, we have already recovered from our reserves, we have already got that.<br /> <br /> “So what we are contending with, which is not a problem really, is the voting point, and within the neighbouring state, even Abuja has called to provide some of the card readers. We have taken care of that.<br /> <br /> “Then the entire register that has been burnt, we have reproduced the register 30 minutes ago. They are ready. Beyond that, we are good to go. Bibire’s boys returned the fire. The first person that was killed was matcheted by Jafo’s boys,” he said.<br /> <br /> Another resident, Sesan Adedayo, alleged that a young man was beaten to death, adding that those injured were rushed to a hospital at Cele Bus Stop, Ijanikin.<br /> <br /> He said the campaigners imported motorcyclists and hoodlums from Ojo to cause mayhem, adding that they were armed with cutlasses, broken bottles and knives which they used freely.<br /> <br /> Condemning the incident, the Oloto of Oto, Oba Josiah Olarewaju Ilemobade, said he was still shocked by the show of power exhibited by the hoodlums.<br /> <br /> Ilemobade, who spoke through the Balogun of Ato Awori, Chief Rufus Fatogun, accused Jafo of failing to call his supporters to order despite being a palace chief.<br /> <br /> He said Jafo’s action appeared premeditated, going by the hoodlums on his train and the arms they carried.<br /> <br /> “His boys damaged well over 35 vehicles, including three parked in front of the palace. One person was severely injured but, thank God, no one died in the fracas.<br /> <br /> “It was not a campaign, because no party leader was among those who came; only members of Okada Riders and Owners Association.<br /> <br /> “He did the same thing during the primary election last year. He brought his boys to beat up party delegates, and that was how he emerged the party’s candidate.<br /> <br /> “With the election barely 24 hours away, he has come to destroy the work our youths have done for APC.<br /> <br /> “The Oba went round in the morning to appeal to the youths not to allow the incident dampen their morale.<br /> <br /> “The police did not help matters at all. It took them over an hour to get to the palace which is less than five minutes away from the station.<br /> <br /> “And when they eventually arrived, they started firing indiscriminately.<br /> <br /> “It was soldiers that brought normalcy to the area,” he said.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="362" data-original-width="500" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp-2X8JfyTgmzh1DcLB8nHrPk1f3IfSfcb3cXFQYX3t-CEfjwZP9s_HXWYEl8CPFB2JXFO5a55IyKSglPmqjMRoCVmDIMcsmS61I3vNre4gC8JNKk0pFzeyR9Qb6Pot9CPXlZXHKKtUM2O/s400/Patience-Jonathan2-e1476960487578.jpg" width="400" /></div> <br /> <br /> The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed an order of interim forfeiture made by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in respect of the sum of $8.4m linked to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs Patience Jonathan.<br /> <br /> The five-man bench of the apex court led by Justice Dattijo Muhammad, in a unanimous judgement, dismissed Jonathan’s appeal and directed her to return to the Federal High Court to show cause why the funds should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.<br /> <br /> The court also rejected her prayer to strike down the provisions of Section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act and other fraud-related offences Act, which were relied on by the Federal High Court to issue the order of interim forfeiture.<br /> <br /> Upholding the decision of the Court of Appeal in Lagos, which had affirmed the Federal High Court’s interim order, Justice Kumai Aka’ahs, in the lead judgement of the apex court on Friday, held, “I do not find any reason to interfere with the decision of the lower court.”<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Justice Aka’ahs added, “Appellant is to go back to the trial court (the Federal High Court) to show cause why the interim order should not be made permanent.”<br /> <br /> The lead judgment was read on behalf of Justice Aka’ahs by Justice Ejembi Eko, also a member of the panel.<br /> <br /> Other members of the five-man panel, Justices Muhammad, John Okoro, Eko, and Sidi Bage, agreed with Justice Aka’ah’s lead judgement.<br /> <br /> The EFCC had last year approached the Federal High Court in Lagos with an ex parte application seeking the forfeiture of the sum of $8,435,788.84 and other various sums in various bank accounts linked to the wife of the former President.<br /> <br /> The anti-graft agency, in its application anchored on Section 17 of AFFA, had urged the court to grant an order of interim forfeiture of the funds which they said were suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.<br /> <br /> Patience Jonathan and others including some organisations were joined in the said ex parte application as respondents.<br /> <br /> Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos had on April 20, 2018 granted the ex parte order.<br /> <br /> She also ordered the EFCC to publish the court’s order in any major national newspaper to enable the respondents or anyone interested in the funds to appear before the court to show cause within 14 days why the final order of forfeiture of the said funds should not be made in favour of the Federal Government of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> Instead of appearing before the court to show cause as directed by the court, she had filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal to challenge the competence of the ex parte application filed by the EFCC to request the order of interim forfeiture.<br /> <br /> She also in her appeal challenged the validity of the order made by the trial court and the constitutionality of the Section 17 of AFFA.<br /> <br /> The Court of Appeal in Lagos dismissed her appeal prompting her to approach the Supreme Court to rule in her favour.<br /> <br /> The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal and upheld the decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="245" data-original-width="412" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHImpzjFmjPUAbcgpdf8Ig6TAAeW2tj_jz-LIy0QPtuoZcXmf6SFz3KNs97BAllc7ikS4kUnU82aW2c1pwgx_6IQjngma6W4m_OptevHfXvSHf59DL5MnYqftq7diFO-P6EGb-omidjPM2/s400/Rochas-Okorocha.png" width="400" /></div> <br /> <br /> The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the acting Accountant General of Imo State, Mr Uzoho Casmir, for allegedly laundering N1.050bn through a new generation bank on behalf of Governor Rochas Okorocha.<br /> <br /> This came as the anti-graft agency arrested six commissioners and other government officials in Kwara State for allegedly diverting N1bn a week before the presidential and National Assembly elections.<br /> <br /> Casmir’s arrest on Thursday by the EFCC followed intelligence report that Okorocha allegedly intended to use the money to buy votes to enable his son-in-law Uche Nwosu of Action Alliance to win Saturday’s governorship poll in the state .<br /> <br /> Casmir was alleged to have withdrawn the money from the bank in three tranches between Tuesday and Thursday.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Sources said he allegedly withdrew N200m on Tuesday, N500m on Wednesday and N350m on Thursday.<br /> <br /> It was learnt that the EFCC had blocked the accounts.<br /> <br /> Casmir was before his appointment the Director of Finance in Okorocha’s government and was in 2016 fingered in a N2bn bailout fund scam.<br /> <br /> According to the EFCC, among those arrested in Kwara are the Commissioner for Finance, Nurudeen Banu; Accountant General, Sulaiman Ishola; Commissioner for Water Resources, Yusuf Abdulkadir; Head of Service, Susan Oluwole; Special Adviser, Commissioner for Energy, Eleja Taiwo Banu; Chief of Staff and Abdulwahab Yusuf.<br /> <br /> The report read in part, “The Ilorin zonal office on March 7, 2019 uncovered about N1bn cash withdrawal by the Kwara State Government, a week before the presidential and National Assembly elections.<br /> <br /> “Those arrested are currently being interrogated in respect of the suspicious withdrawal.”<br /> <br /> It added, “Investigations by EFCC operatives revealed that the said money was withdrawn from the state’s account domiciled with Sterling Bank.”<br /> <br /> The report also said a government official, Hafees Yusuf, confirmed to the operatives that he got instructions from his boss to withdraw some money in February.<br /> <br /> “My Controller of Finance told me that the sum of N350m was paid into the account of Kwara State Government and I was instructed by my boss to raise cheques of various sums of money, which I did and were duly signed by the Controller of Finance; I withdrew the monies as I was instructed by my supervisor,” the report quoted Yusuf as saying.<br /> <br /> However, the Media Adviser to the Kwara State Governor, Muyideen Akorede, denied allegations that the N1bn was meant for vote-buying.<br /> <br /> Akorede told newsmen that the money was appropriated for in the budget and thus could not have been illegal to withdraw.<br /> <br /> He said, “I can confirm that some government officials were invited by the EFCC over the money. However, they were not detained but asked to go and return.<br /> <br /> “As far as I am aware, the money was appropriated in the budget. It was not for elections.”

The interest of Atiku and Aisha Buhari is putting a lot of pressure on the state. If Atiku loses the state to the APC, he would have lost his base. Aisha is fighting for her position as the wife of the President and the possibility of her brother becoming governor,’” he said.<br /> <br /> But a NAF top source said, “The Air Force ISR platforms cannnot be visible in every state because of logistic constraints, you don’t expect us to deploy in the 36 states. But there are flashpoints and states where you suspect that violence may want to occur.<br /> <br /> “The ISR will be visible as usual in the North-East axis, South-South, South-West, Kwara and other places that crop up on the election day.<br /> <br /> “But the aircraft are mainly for surveillance and nothing more. The security personnel are on the ground to manage any situation.”<br /> <br /> <b><u>DELTA STATE</u></b><br /> <br /> In Delta State, security has been beefed up around major flashpoints.<br /> <br /> Our correspondent reports that more security operatives have also been deployed in the riverine areas including the creeks of Warri South-West, Burutu, Bomadi and Warri-North local government areas.<br /> <br /> Our correspondent observed on Friday patrols by military operatives around the oil city of Warrri, Effurun, Udu and Ughelli.<br /> <br /> There was also heavy presence of policemen on stop-and-check duties along the Otor-Udu/Otu-Jeremi road and along the DSC Expressway.<br /> <br /> Some military trucks were sighted stationed at the Effurun Market along the PTI Road in Uvwie LGA near Warri.<br /> <br /> At the INEC office in Warri, security operatives were also sighted, although activities had yet to commence at the centre.<br /> <br /> The spokesperson for Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Council Area of the state, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, described the heavy presence of security agents in the area as unnecessary.<br /> <br /> Gbenekama while querying the rationale behind the massive deployment of security men in the creeks, however, noted that there was electoral violence during and after the presidential election.<br /> <br /> <b><u>BAYELSA STATE</u></b><br /> <br /> In Bayelsa State, there was an uneasy calm among residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital and the indigenes of the neighbouring communities as more soldiers and policemen were seen moving around and stationed in strategic locations.<br /> <br /> As early as 6am on Friday, the military presence in the state drawn from the Navy, Army and the Air Force were reinforced.<br /> <br /> The police command also received a new commissioner while more police officers and men were seen arriving in different convoys. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also got reinforcement.<br /> <br /> The new Commissioner of Police, Shola David, had arrived in Yenagoa, earlier on Thursday.<br /> <br /> While the military commands stationed in the state refused to comment on the development, the Police Command spokesman, Asimin Butswat, confirmed the arrival of more men and officers.<br /> <br /> There was an aerial show of force by the Air Force as helicopters flew over the metropolis as early as 9am.<br /> <br /> Most of the residents who spoke with our correspondents expressed worry over the development, saying that Bayelsa must not be turned into a war zone.<br /> <u><b><br /></b></u><u><b>AKWA IBOM</b></u><br /> <br /> In Akwa Ibom State, soldiers, mobile policemen and three commissioners of police have reportedly taken over the state.<br /> <br /> Four MOPOL units, including Special Protection Units, have been deployed in the state.<br /> <br /> The state Commissioner of Police in charge of election duties, CP Sani Kaoje, who confirmed the deployment to our correspondent on Friday, said the additional deployment would join forces with over 9210 earlier deployed in the state. He however said some of those earlier deployed in the state had been withdrawn.<br /> <br /> A source who monitored developments reports heavy presence of combined team of soldiers, mobile policemen and civil defence corps stationed in many places around Uyo metropolis.<br /> <br /> The armed personnel were noticed in many places including the INEC headquarters.<br /> <br /> Kaoje who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, at a media briefing, however, said the additional deployment was not meant to harass and intimidate voters but to keep the peace before, during and after the elections.<br /> <br /> “Yes we have more deployment of mobile policemen in Akwa Ibom. About four mobile units, including Special Protection Units and three commissioners of police have been deployed in the state.<br /> <br /> “However, let me stress that they are not here to harass and intimidate voters. They are here to maintain peace and order before, during and after the elections,” he said.<br /> <br /> Reacting to the belief by some people that the police command was working for a particular political party, he said, “The police should not be misconstrued to be taking sides with any political party. We remain apolitical and professional in the discharge of our duties. We are committed to free, fair and credible polls. I therefore use this opportunity to call on all eligible voters to come out and exercise their civil responsibility of voting for any candidate of their choice.”<br /> <u><b><br /></b></u><u><b>KWARA STATE</b></u><br /> <br /> Residents of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, woke up on Friday to witness joint security patrol round the metropolis.<br /> <br /> The operatives comprised policemen, soldiers, naval officers, members of civil defence, Immigration, NDLEA and Air Force. The commission said the collation officer for a state can only return as winner, any candidate who “(i) has the majority of votes cast at the election; (and) (ii) has not less than one quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of all the LGAs in the state.”<br /> <br /> The guidelines stated that “Where no candidate meets the requirements of the majority of votes cast and the electoral two-thirds, as provided in 41b (i) and (ii) above, a run-off election will be organised by the commission within 21 days in line with the provisions of Section 179 (2) to (5) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.”<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> In case of cancelled votes, the guidelines stated that the returning officer should not declare any candidate winner if the margin between the two leading candidates is less than the number of registered voters at the polling unit or units where votes were cancelled or did not hold at all. The commission stated that in line with sections 26 and 53 of the Electoral Act, a winner would only be declared after a fresh poll has been conducted at the polling unit(s) where votes were cancelled or did not hold at all.

She stated that his evidence before the court that he had only slapped his wife when he overheard her on a phone call praising the sexual prowess of a lover, did not match the autopsy report by the pathologist, Dr Shokunle Shoyemi, which revealed old and fresh injuries on the deceased.<br /> <br /> She held that bruises on the deceased’s cheek, blood collection in the brain, brain swelling and other multiple injuries could not have been self-inflicted.<br /> <br /> The judge was convinced that the prosecution also proved, among the ingredients of murder, that the death of the deceased occurred and the convict was the last person who had physical contact with her.<br /> <br /> Justice Oyefeso said, “This is the sentence of the court upon you, that you should be hanged until you are dead. May the Lord have mercy upon you.”<br /> <br /> Earlier, before the sentence was passed, the defence counsel pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy.<br /> <br /> Mr I. B. Mohammed, who held brief for the defence counsel, Chief Robert Clarke, said, “My Lord, we want to plead with the court while administering justice, dispensing same in this case to see a reason to temper justice with mercy.<br /> <br /> “The couple has two kids; I know, as a matter of fact that these two children have passed through the worst moment of their lives. I know if these two children had any control in this proceeding, it would be that their father should not be prosecuted at all, but since they could not have that, their wish is that their father should be sentenced on a very liberal term.<br /> <br /> “The defendant has no criminal record; he has developed a series of failing health conditions since his detention. This defendant hardly sees very well again, he sees faintly. My Lord, he is hypertensive.”

March 9.<br /> <br /> “Furthermore, the Commission has been informed of the death of Hon. Adamu Kwanate, who until his death was the member representing Nassarawo Binyeri State Constituency (Mayo Belwa LGA) in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.<br /> <br /> “He was also the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the same Constituency in the election scheduled for Saturday March 9.<br /> <br /> “Consequently, INEC is compelled to reschedule the Nassarawo Binyeri State Constituency election for tomorrow and the same has been rescheduled to Saturday March 23, in line with Section 36(1) of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.<br /> <br /> “The Governorship election in the constituency and all other state constituency elections will, however, proceed as scheduled tomorrow.” (NAN)

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="1056" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXnbsRLq57TUj3ePFx5ZMBaARiy417JpKbT9hGO_y2gwQWgPx8bTuUmr2j3lRu30Ev_f2VDHoyvoseeJGTbBSVyif-AbCt1Hoe-QWUw3-Ri83mFCcAV3lm8YdvbPc4jAQZaGnGJGRsVQJC/s400/Atiku-Abubakar-5.jpg" width="400" /></div> <br /> The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, have ruled out the option of appealing against unfavourable portions of the Wednesday’s ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.<br /> <br /> A three-man panel of the court, led by Justice Abdul Aboki, had in the ruling granted them access to inspect the materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the February 23 poll.<br /> <br /> The court permitted them to obtain certified true copies of the materials from INEC.<br /> <br /> But the court rejected some of their vital prayers, including requests to have access to card reader data, and have other electoral documents scanned, photocopied, and subjected to forensic analysis and examination.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The applicants, aggrieved by INEC’s declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election, had applied for access to the electoral materials to enable them to challenge the outcome of the poll at the tribunal.<br /> <br /> Speaking to our source on Thursday, a senior member of the applicants’ legal team, Chief Chris Uche, said it was unnecessary to appeal against the portions of the ruling refusing some of their requests.<br /> <br /> Uche, “Filing an appeal against those portions of the ruling is totally unnecessary.<br /> <br /> “This is because we at liberty to make the requests again at the pre-hearing stage after we must have filed our petition.”<br /> <br /> It was learnt that the court’s order permitting Atiku and his party to inspect the electoral materials in custody of INEC would be served on the commission on Friday.<br /> <br /> They have to serve the order on INEC before they can begin the inspection through which they would gather the materials need to back their petition.<br /> <br /> They have 21 days to file the petition.<br /> <br /> The period started counting from when INEC declared the results of the election on February 27.
