Given the incidence of the closure of schools in response to the pandemic, it would not be out of context to note that the challenges presently faced by these schools would increase significantly.</p> <p>“With access to low-cost funding for privately owned schools and vocational training centres in the state, we are confident that this programme will help accelerate sustainable and painless return to world-class learning and skills acquisition of our young population. As a responsible Government, we are obligated to provide the intervention that would enable learners in these schools’ study in line with the new normal.”</p> <p>Sanwo-Olu said the N5 billion Education Loan Programme was a precursor to many more human development sector-specific support programmes that would be unveiled by the LSETF on behalf of the State Government next month.</p> <p>The Governor explained that the intervention was necessary, given the importance of education to building human capital. He said his administration took education as critical building 21st-century economy and realising objectives set out in the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda.</p> <p>The beneficiaries, Sanwo-Olu said, will have access to single-digit loan facilities to fund the provision of the amenities and services needed to aid learning.</p> <p>He said: “It is thus heart-warming to have First Bank of Nigeria electing to be our exemplary partner for this intervention. With their support, players in the education sector would be getting the financial support they need to boost learning at a single-digit interest rate.</p> <p>“I also commend the Board of LSETF and the management for this significant accomplishment. They have helped the Lagos State Government build an institution that has engendered public trust and elevated the hope of small businesses and young people, irrespective of challenges faced.”</p> <p>Chairperson, LSETF Board of Trustees, Mrs Bola Adesola, represented by Mrs. Tatiana Mousali-Nouri, said schools that have a minimum of 100 students and have been in operation for, at least, a year are the ones qualified for the loan facility.</p> <p>She said: “We are confident that this intervention fund, which is complemented by our free professional and institutional support structures, will ensure that education ecosystem in Lagos witnesses an improvement in the overall learning outcomes for the children, while positively impacting on the local economy through wealth and job creation.”</p> <p>First Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adesola Adeduntan, said the Bank went into the partnership, having recognised the role played by education towards the growth of the economy.</p> <p>He praised the State Government’s efforts towards suppressing the burden caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the education, saying Lagos Government had scored another first.</p> <p>Adeduntan said: “With the single-digit funding targeted at about 2,000 low-cost private schools in Lagos, we are delighted to demonstrate our commitment to the development of education in the State, thereby contributing our quota to realise the mandate of the State Government and LSETF on economic growth, opportunities for employment and bridging societal gaps in education.”</p> <p>The loan scheme will be provided to two categories of applicants, which are Micro-Enterprise (ME) and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME). Those in ME category will receive a sum of not more than N500,000, while those in SME will get N5,000,000.</p> <p>To apply for the loan facility, applicants are expected to submit their applications via the LSETF portal for screening. Details of the successful applicants will be passed on to First Bank for appraisal and disbursement.</p>

That message I got across to the Inspector General of Police, that elections must be free and fair.</p> <p>“If contestants have too much money and they decide to spray, so be it. But what I insist (on) is (that) nobody should go and raise a counter force to the government, arm heavily-drugged thugs to go and humiliate people.”</p> <p>“I want Nigerians to appreciate that I respect them as Nigerians and that I am bound by the oath I have taken that their security is in the hands of God and in the hands of the government which I am leading.</p> <p>”We have lost states across the country. Now I do not like to escape the responsibility, seeing as the leader of the country, I am also the leader of my party, that I am not leading the party very well.</p> <p>“I am trying to make sure that the party is built on a civilized basis, rule of law and respect for human rights and human beings, right from polling units to local governments, to states up to Abuja, and that’s what I have been insisting (on) as my contribution to the National Working Committee and executive of the party.</p> <p>“I know we are a developing country, a developing economy and trying to develop our political culture.</p> <p>“I want the development of political culture to be based on integrity and accountability. Let people work very hard and earn what they are looking for through their hard work and through fair competition.”</p> <p>He added jokingly: “I thank you for bringing your deputy and supporters to come and see me after beating my party.”</p> <p>He also said he was congratulating Obaseki  ”reluctantly” because he defeated the APC candidate.</p> <p>In his remarks, Governor Obaseki thanked the President for ensuring fair play during the election.</p> <p>He recalled how the President, a few weeks before the election, assured him that “we were going to have a free, peaceful and credible election.”</p> <p>He said: “That is what we had during the election of September 19, and the whole world has acclaimed that Edo election was perhaps one of the best conducted in recent times in Nigeria.</p> <p>“This could not have been possible without your insistence that the right things be done, and for that, we want to say thank you very much.”</p>

It stated that 508 COVID-19 patients have been treated and recovered from the infection. The NCDC said that it erroneously reported one death in Bayelsa on Sept. 23, 2020.<br /> <br /> The health agency added that the cumulative discharged cases included 364 recovered patients in Katsina State who were managed in the community. The agency added that the new infection were reported from 17 states of the federation.<br /> <br /> According to it, Lagos and Plateau States recorded most of the new cases with 51 each followed by FCT with 29 new cases.<br /> <br /> Amongst others were Rivers (18), Ondo (12), Oyo (9), Osun (8), Gombe (7), Ogun (7), Kaduna (5), Enugu (4), Edo (3), Jigawa (3), Kano (3), Benue (1), Delta (1), and Sokoto (1).<br /> <br /> The NCDC said that the country had now recorded, in total, 58,062 new cases of the novel coronavirus, with 49,606 cases discharged and 1,103 deaths reported across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.<br /> <br /> It said that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, have continued to coordinate the national response activities across the country. What a lockdown, as its name implies? What a year? And this year’s version will definitely go down in history as one of the most memorable. Yet, it has had its ups and downs, its high and low moments, times, its climax and anticlimax.<br /> <br /> And it has also been the butt of criticisms, with many excoriating it and questioning its use-value in a country, time and period people are struggling to make ends meet, in a clime they believe it is misplaced priority watching youths locked down in a house for six weeks “making love on national television”, when there are very serious issues of national importance to tackle.<br /> <br /> However, BBNaija is beyond just making love on national television, as it’s a micro-society where housemates not only network but also outsmart one another and manage to control what others think about them – what Irving Goffman, sociologist and symbolic interactionist, would call dramaturgy. But sometimes the housemates find it difficult to control other people’s perceptions of them, however hard they try to veil their real selves with behavioural camouflages.<br /> <br /> Still it’s a zero sum game whereby one’s failure is another’s success and at the end of the day, only one winner clinches the N85m prize money.<br /> <br /> No doubt, the question tugging at virtually every one’s mind now is: Who wins BBNaija Lockdown Season 5 ? While this is not an attempt to dismiss any of the five finalists – Laycon, Nengi, Dorathy, Neo and Vee – as they all have equal chances of clinching the prize money, the truth is, it’s a three-horse race.<br /> <br /> The housemates in strong contention for the prize are Laycon, Nengi and Dorathy. Throughout the six weeks they have stayed in the house, these housemates put up a strong showing, have shown very exemplary behaviour and strong character and have huge fan bases. While Nengi or Dorathy may spring a surprise and win the competition, if the feelers from social media and opinion polls are anything to go by, Laycon is highly favoured to win the N85 million.<br /> <br /> Laycon has so many things going for him. Aside from the fact that he has shown very strong character, is articulate and strong mentally (a trait Erica acknowledged), Laycon, arguably has the strongest fan base, and of all the housemates in the house, he was the first to be verified on Twitter Many also believe that since he revealed that he has sickle cell anaemia he will garner sympathy votes from his teeming fans.<br /> <br /> However, one cannot rule out the element of surprise that has become associated with BBNaija. The truth is, no matter the popularity of some of the contestants, any of the five finalists can win the prize. No matter how popular a contestant may seem, if he can’t garner enough votes from his fans, there is no way he would win the competition. BBNaija is no magic. At the end of the day, the fans and viewers have the final say. That’s the fun of BBNaija. That’s the excitement. That’s why millions of Africans are glued to their television sets watching the show and contributing to the hype, excitement and hoopla.<br /> <br /> However, no matter who eventually wins the prize, it is a known fact that BBNaija Lockdown Season 5 presented many unforgettable and irrepressible characters. We had Ka3na, the lady who revealed so many things about herself, who boasted of having a mini-estate, married to a 65 year old Briton, had IVF and her ovaries frozen several times, but whose dream of winning the competition was aborted so early. We also had Praise who many believed made love with Ka3na under the duvet, although Ka3na denied it, claiming they only made up.<br /> <br /> We had Erica and Kiddwaya, two lovebirds whose time in the house was characterized by melodrama that would make a box-office hit any day, anytime. While Erica never hid her love for Kiddwaya, the son of a billionaire from Benue State wasn’t ready for a relationship. Erica was disqualified for consistently breaking house rules while Kidd’s eviction took many by surprise. We won’t forget in a hurry Erica’s confrontation with Laycon that ill-fated Saturday night, and her outburst, which eventually led to her disqualification.<br /> <br /> We had Dorathy – the irrepressible Dora – whose smiles, impressive chest and diplomacy made many glued to their TV sets. We also had Ozo and Nengi, two housemates whose Bollywood romance would also make for a bestseller any day anytime. Ozo’s and Nengi’s romance is the direct opposite of Kiddwaya’s and Erica’s. While Ozo never hid his love for Nengi, the Bayelsa State-born model and beauty queen wanted to take her time. Ozo was so all over Nengi that it got many embarrassed and concerned.<br /> <br /> We also had Eric and Lilo, two housemates who felt they were each other’s distractions. We will also not forget the two love triangles involving Ozo, Nengi and Dorathy on the one hand and Kiddwaya, Erica and Laycon on the other.<br /> <br /> We also had other memorable housemates such as Prince, Wathoni, Lucy, Tolanibaj, Trikytee, to mention a few. No matter who eventually becomes the winner, I will like to end with a statement commonly attributed to William Shakespeare: “All is fair in love and war.”

That is where the title of the song came from. My baby’s name is Adejare, not ‘Duduke’. Zulum to exercise great caution in areas still under control by Boko Haram and be well protected.</p> <p>He condoled with the families of security agencies who died in the process.</p> <p>Sani on his Twitter page wrote: “The attacks on the convoy of Governor Zulum by the Insurgents again is condemnable.</p> <p>“The Governor must be well protected. In view of this, he should exercise greater caution in areas still controlled by the terror group.</p> <p>“My condolences to the families of the policemen lost.”</p>

I know my opinion of myself and my family know exactly what I am, so that’s all I’m worried about.</p> <p>“Obviously going into a different culture, a different country, I’ve had to grow up as a person, never mind a footballer.</p> <p>“You just learn how to deal with the situations that you’re in. Obviously I’ve been in immense pressure situations. I’ve had people on the pitch whistling in the stadium to me.</p> <p>“So yeah I’ve just learned how to deal with those type of things, to not take it to seriously, take it too much to heart, and yeah just get on with it. It’s football – something that you love doing and you just need to give your best and sometimes that’s all you can do.”</p> <p>Tottenham finished sixth in the Premier League last season, and with Bale’s arrival, the club will be aiming for a return to the top four and Champions League qualification.</p> <p>After a surprise defeat at home to Everton in their season opener, Spurs overcame a lacklustre first-half performance to thrash Southampton 5-2 on Sunday, giving them some much-needed momentum to take into this weekend’s match against Newcastle.</p> <p>“Of course when you come into any club you want to do well, you want to help the team as much as you can,” Bale said.</p> <p>“We have a great team here now with a great squad. They’ve been doing great. Obviously in the time that I’ve gone away they’ve gone on and on and obviously reached the Champions League final, the club’s got a new stadium, the club itself is better, they’re doing better in the Premier League every year.</p> <p>“So I just want to add to that. I want to try and bring a bit more to the team and try and progress even more and keep pushing in the right direction.”</p>

My tenure has not ended. I still have time and I’m fulfilling all the promises I made.</p> <p>“So it would be difficult for anyone to say ‘I’m leaving PDP based on the fact that the Governor made promises and cannot fulfill them.’</p> <p>“But you can leave PDP if the person has an ambition and cannot actualize such ambition in PDP and says ‘let me go to so so party and see if they’ll give me ticket,’ not that PDP is not doing well in Rivers State. Nobody can say that.</p> <p>“Even the opposition knows that they cannot in all sincerity come out to say that the PDP is not doing well in Rivers State, therefore, we must change the government of Rivers State, nobody can say that.”</p>

Buhari’s statement that it was a coincidence is unfortunate.</p> <p>“Nigerians are yet to come out, of the crushing effect of COVID-19, and the government is now creating more hardship for his subjects. This is quite unfortunate.</p> <p>“It has become obvious that Buhari’s government does not have a sustainable economic plan to tackle the myriads of Nigeria’s problems,” he added.</p> <p>Bamgbose recalled that Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the current information minister in 2012, vociferously criticized then President, Goodluck Jonathan, for planning to deregulate the downward stream, but now justifying the cruel removal of subsidy.</p> <p>“It’s becoming obvious that APC government is a fraud. They never came prepared to serve the interest of the people, but to enrich themselves. The government is fast becoming burdensome,” he noted</p> <p>“There is nothing concrete on ground, to show that the government is committed to improving the lots of the poor masses.</p> <p>“It’s a government that thrive on excuses and propaganda. This government has failed to provide the needed dividends of democracy.</p> <p>“They have lost focus. The nationwide strike should be total and indefinite, until the government deem it to reverse the fuel price.</p> <p>“There should be no going back until the government backs down. Buhari should stop taking Nigerians for granted.”</p>

It can be used to advance literacy as the state is one of the educationally less developed in Nigeria. If judiciously utilized, the money would have positively affected lives.</p> <p>“We commend the Zamfara State government for coming out with this revelation. We hope this allegation will not be seen as an opportunity to settle political scores and that a political solution will not be sought by either party in a bid to foreclose an investigation.</p> <p>“We therefore call on the anti-corruption agencies to take this case up and carry out diligent and meticulous investigation in order to bring all culprits to book,” he said.</p> <p>CACOL demanded that persons found guilty face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others.</p>

Both unions said they would collaborate to execute the industrial action for maximum effect.<br /> <br /> Rising from a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the National Executive Council of the NLC comprising the chairpersons of the 36 state chapters and the Federal Capital Territory endorsed the decision earlier taken by the Central Working Committee of the Congress on the strike last Wednesday.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>Court stops strike</b><br /> <br /> But the industrial court in Abuja, on Thursday, issued an interim order restraining the unions from embarking on the strike.<br /> <br /> Justice Ibrahim Galadima issued the interim order following an ex-parte application filed by a group, Peace and Unity Ambassadors Association through their counsel, Sunusi Musa.<br /> <br /> Justice Galadima ordered the labour unions, their officers and affiliate groups to halt the plan to embark on the strike pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the applicant.<br /> <br /> The judge also granted an order of interim injunction restraining the unions from disrupting, restraining, picketing or preventing the workers or ordinary Nigerians from accessing their offices to carry out their legitimate duties on September 28, 2020 or any other date.<br /> <br /> The court also granted an order compelling the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General, Department of State Services, to provide protection for workers engaged in their legitimate duties from any form of harassment, intimidation and bullying by the officers, agents or privies of the unions pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.<br /> <b><br /></b><b>Those who obtained order not our employers –NLC</b><br /> <br /> Reacting to the court injunction, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, dismissed it, saying he had not been served, adding that the group that filed the suit was not his employers.<br /> <br /> He asked, “How does that (injunction) affect me if I have not been served? Have I been served? Are they our employers? What relationship do I have with any group?”<br /> <br /> The meeting between the Federal Government and organised labour meant to avert the planned strike and protest ended in a deadlock.<br /> <br /> The meeting, which started at 4.16pm at the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall, Abuja, on Thursday, dragged till 9.22pm without a resolution.<br /> <br /> But speaking to journalists after the dialogue, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the parties had a fruitful discussion, adding that it was shifted till Monday to conclude the discussions.<br /> <br /> He expressed the belief that the unions would heed the government’s plea to suspend their planned strike.<br /> <br /> However, the TUC President, Quadri Olaleye, told journalists that the mobilisation of workers for the strike would not be halted, noting that the government failed to reverse or suspend the fuel price hike and electricity tariff adjustment.<br /> <br /> He stated, “We were not the one that adjourned the meeting; the government adjourned it till Monday. Monday is the expiration of the ultimatum and we are still very much focused on that. It is a deadlock now.<br /> <br /> “Of course, that (adjournment) will not stop the action that has been put in place. We have told them to reverse or to suspend, while the discussion goes on Monday. So, labour is left with no option but to go our way.”<br /> <br /> Asked about the offers or concessions made by the government’s team, the union leader said, “We are coming with an open mind to find a solution to the problems in the country, especially on the price hike. They have made their proposal, but we are saying let us suspend or reverse, then we can now continue to discuss but they have adjourned. But labour will continue with the mobilisation of workers.”<br /> <br /> Speaking earlier before the closed-door technical session, Ngige said attendance at the dialogue was expanded to include the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and others following the declaration of strike and protest by the labour centres.<br /> <br /> Other officials in attendance included the Minister of Power, Mamman Saleh; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva; Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed; and the Minister of State, Labour, Festus Keyamo (SAN).<br /> <b><br /></b><b>Ngige, TUC leader in altercation</b><br /> <br /> There was a mild drama as Ngige got into an altercation with the TUC president, who accused him of using “divide and rule tactics” to create a breach within the labour unions.<br /> <br /> Ngige in his welcome address had reiterated that he has not received TUC’s letter whose notice of industrial action was addressed to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He explained that his attention was drawn to the letter on social media by an aide.<br /> <br /> The minister stated, “I want to reiterate that the country belongs to all of us, it is not Buhari’s country. Whatever we want to discuss, we will discuss dispassionately in furtherance of the welfare of Nigerians.<br /> <br /> “I will even assume my role as a conciliator: if the government side did not play ball, I will tell them, and if labour also crosses into a lane that will lead to the collapse of the entire economy, I will also bridge the gap.”<br /> <br /> But Olaleye in his remark dismissed Ngige’s claims that the country belonged to all Nigerians, stressing that the workers were being used as sacrificial animals by the political elite.<br /> <br /> He said, “I heard when the minister mentioned that the country belongs to all of us. I, as a person, except you change my impression, I believe the country belongs to the few politicians that take decisions and make policies that are very hard for us to live in this country.<br /> <br /> “If the country belongs to all of us, the question is, why are people running out of this country? Our youths are running out of this country despite all the dangerous obstacles on the road, many have lost their lives.<br /> <br /> “Can somebody run out of his father’s house when nothing is pursuing him? So, definitely, the answer is no. Let’s make the country to belong to all of us so that we can be a bona fide owner of our country.”<br /> <br /> He asked the labour minister to withdraw his comment over the letter, pointing out that the issues were beyond Ngige, hence the decision to address it to the President.<br /> <br /> He noted,” I want to disagree with you; with due respect to your office, we honour your office and we will not do anything to undermine your office.<br /> <br /> “But the issue is issue that Mr President himself has to handle, we are not talking about the minimum wage, increase or any price with the government. We are talking about economic issues and we have elected Mr President to lead and that is why we have addressed that issue to him.<br /> <br /> “But if you want to insist sir, that because the letter is not referred to you, then TUC can excuse you. I know it’s a statement of divide and rule which will not be acceptable to this congress sir.<br /> <br /> “I will prefer that you withdraw the statement and let us continue the meeting. If the letter is not addressed to you and you invited us here, I don’t know how we can reconcile this statement.”<br /> <br /> An obviously indignant Ngige took time to lecture Olaleye on his knowledge of International Labour Organisation’s practices, stating that he had attended all ILO sessions, governing board meetings and general assembly, insisting that the ‘competent authority’ for labour issues in any country is the minister of labour.<br /> <br /> He stated, “My friend, the new president of TUC, I don’t want to start altercations before we start the technical session but I want to put the records straight for you so that if your general secretary has not educated you properly, then, he better go home and do so.<br /> <br /> “You have no business with the President of Nigeria. Your place of business is the Ministry of Labour. You have said the issue is not labour dispute or wages negotiation, but in the same breath, you said your earnings are being eroded.<br /> <br /> “If you want to address social issues, the civil societies are there, the political parties are there and you can write or castigate Mr President, but when you talk about the working class of Nigeria, erosion of their wages and anything that has to do with their welfare, you are dealing with the ministry of labour. So, there is nothing to withdraw from my earlier statement and I still stand by it.”<br /> <br /> But the SGF, Mustapha, said no government decision was intended to hurt the citizens, arguing that the price hike “was taken in the interest of the people and the country.”

We condemn their action and want appropriate lawful action taken.”</p> <p>The Coalition said that Zamfara State has for long faced problems with armed groups stealing cattle, kidnapping for ransom and attacking communities.</p> <p>More recently, the groups noted that there has been a growth in informal mining activity in the mineral-rich region that has attracted people from outside the State, thereby, further fuelling instability in the State.</p> <p>Responding, the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, reiterated the commitments to promote security in the State.</p> <p>He said that the State government is aware that despite the peace achieved, some elements are trying to disabuse the efforts of government towards ensuring peace.</p>

Yoruba World Congress is committed to helping Yoruba nation to secure its position in the comity of nations.</p> <p>“They do say I don’t compromise. It is not every time. But once we say, we will take a common stance, I don’t know how to betray. We will get Yoruba nation free without violence, we will not break the laws of Nigeria. If there is anyone who wants to be violent, we will tell them, no.</p> <p>“If you are violent and there are dead bodies on the streets, you are circumventing our purpose. We are telling the world that we want our own country. We have the rights to demand for our rights. When we launched Amotekun, was there any arrest, violence? If you want to stage a rally, do so. It’s your rights but no violence.</p> <p>“I have passion for the youths. If you don’t have people who can take after you, no matter the amount of wealth you have it’s nothing. These youths are important. We elders can only guide and lead you. We can write letters but it is you who will do it. It must succeed. Anybody saying contrary, I’m not part of that idea.</p> <p>“In the past of 30 and 40 years ago, the youths have not been the same again. I graduated from the University College Ibadan in the morning and by evening my wife and I were employed. I can’t do the things I’m doing now if I don’t have the youths around me.</p> <p>“We are hurting our future in a very vicious way. Yoruba are 55 million, 74 percent are 40 years and. Step forward and. They have the authority of the land to say you can’t do it. Go back home. No violence. Go to market places, mechanic workshop, farmers on their way to the farms. If you can do this, getting our resolve done will not be difficult.”</p> <p>“We don’t force our will on people. Explain to those organizations who don’t understand what you want. Yoruba will not suffer. We are the most populous in Africa. We want to take our own country and begin to build it. Nothing more,” he concluded.</p> <p>In his own contribution, the leader of Movement for Oduduwa Republic, Architect Akin George explained how they had mobilised other people in Yorubaland.</p> <p>“We went to Okemesi where the Kiriji war started. We saw the king. From there, we went to Imesi Ile and Igbajo. At Igbajo, we noticed disunity between Imesi Ile and Oke Imesi, between Igbajo and Ibadan people there.</p> <p>“We reconciled them. We can’t fight the enemies if home front is divided. We may have misunderstanding but should not lead to quarrel,” he revealed.</p>

Children’s cognitive and behaviour patterns were evaluated in middle childhood, around age nine.</p> <p>Among the partakers, 655 children were exposed to cannabis in utero, according to statements from the mothers unlike the 10,834 children, whose mothers reported no exposure.</p> <a name='more' id="more"></a> <p>Children whose mothers had used weed during pregnancy were more likely to have psychotic-like behaviors and more attention, social, and sleep problems, as well as weaker cognitive abilities.</p> <p>In their findings, the specialists stated that prenatal cannabis exposure and its correlated factors are associated with greater risk for psychopathology during the middle childhood of infants involved.</p> <p>“Use of cannabis despite knowledge of pregnancy might represent a preexisting and more severe form of cannabis use,” the authors wrote.</p> <p>According to the scholars, if the woman continued to use cannabis after she discovered her pregnancy, the effects became more pronounced and stayed after adjusting for confounding variables.</p> <p>They added that cannabis use during pregnancy should be discouraged.</p>

It is for a total cost of N3,049,544,000.<br /> <br /> “The second one is the award of contract for the development of the proposed Kano-Katsina-Jibia to Matadi rail line in Niger Republic and to Dutse, the capital of Jigawa, for a total cost of $1,959,744,723.71, inclusive of 7.5% VAT.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, said the council also approved N745.2m to be spent on engaging additional forensic auditors for the Niger Delta Development Commission.<br /> <br /> The minister said the approval brought the total number of forensic auditors engaged for the commission to 16.<br /> <br /> He explained that they would be working with the lead forensic auditor in nine states of the Niger Delta which he said had been divided into 16 lots.<br /> <br /> “The council also considered and approved the need to attach relevant investigative security agencies to each of the team to ensure transparency and also to be sure that whatever comes out is acceptable to not just in Nigeria but to the international community,” the minister added.<br /> <br /> The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said the council approved N12.088bn for the construction of Section II of the Ohafia-Arochukwu Road.<br /> <br /> “This section comprises Umuahia/Bende/Ohafia Road in Abia State and it was approved for the construction at N12.088bn comprising a distance of 45 kilometres to complement Section I which was previously awarded in 2018, that is the section from Bende/Arochukwu to Ohafia which is 19.27 kilometres,” he said.<br /> <br /> The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the council approved the augmentation of the contract for the construction of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund’s headquarters in Abuja in the sum of N3.773bn, therefore raising the initial approval for the contract to about N14bn.<br /> <br /> Mohammed added that FEC also approved the procurement of 1,800 units of laptop computers for three Nigeria Customs Service’s training schools at the cost of N351,540,000.<br /> <br /> He disclosed that the council also approved N197million for the expansion of the NCS’ cash management’s software in compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards.<br /> <br /> He said the software, when installed, would enhance the efficiency of the Department of Customs.<br /> <br /> The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said FEC approved the contract for the procurement of 52 Green Maria vehicles for the Nigeria Correctional Service.<br /> <br /> He said the vehicles would complement the about 451 already acquired between 2016 and 2019. Imagine we take a loan from China to construct rail line that passes through Katsina State to another country; for what purpose?<br /> <br /> “Lagos that has been battling gridlock for many years. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1518" data-original-width="1500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimpVF3K7p6uRw7xvEcwqPTtGo1-3yGnnBEL3cH-KcQQeBf0swDU-5lKdQLehWV2Sc6IxRRG5X2cIkxz0APNK8k5W_lbW4a1PFvopyyR9t43ccskJ4IIJXXRBvAtHwXI5Gnhy3gZKKr3GhC/s400/Kenneth-Gbagi.jpg" width="395" /></div> <br /> <br /> Ex-employees of Signatious Hotel, Warri, Delta State, who were reportedly stripped on the order of the chairman of the hotel and former Minister of State for Education, Mr Kenneth Gbagi, have demanded N1bn compensation and public apology from him.<br /> <br /> The victims’ legal team, led by Mr Kunle Edun of Tri-Lex Partners law firm, made the demands, among others in a September 23, 2020 letter sent to Gbagi, who is also a lawyer, on Wednesday.<br /> <br /> The letter was titled, ‘Trial by ordeal, torture, stripping naked and bestial conduct of Signatious Hotel and yourself in an organised show of shame and animalism: Notice of intention to seek full legal redress’.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Edun stated that their clients, Mr Victor Ephraim, Gloria Oguzie, Mrs. Precious Achibong, Roselyn Okiemute Diaghwarhe, because of the tips a guest who lodged at the hotel for four days gave to them on his departure on August 20, 2020.<br /> <br /> The letter read in part, “That after the guest’s stay, he gave our clients the sum of N105, 000 as tips for the good time that he had at the hotel.<br /> <br /> “This again, is not unusual in the hospitality business. That the hotel did not lose any money neither was any alleged to have been stolen.<br /> <br /> “You told our clients menacingly that they are not entitled to tips, as all tips belong to you. As a matter of fact, you categorically stated that they were not supposed to have monies in their accounts as long as they were working for you.”<br /> <br /> The letter added that on September 17, 2020, Gbagi allegedly forcibly took the victims, one of whom was a married woman to the hotel warehouse in the presence and assistance of the armed mobile policemen and at gunpoint ordered them “to pull off their clothes”.<br /> <br /> The letter stated that with “the threatening presence of the armed policemen who willingly did your bidding, you directed your son of 15 years old (a minor) Master Egba Gbagi, to film and take photos of our clients’ nakedness” and then “summoned the other staff of the hotel to see the nakedness of our clients”.<br /> <br /> The lawyers gave the ex-minister five days to among others, pay their clients N1bn “as modest damages and compensation for the unmitigated actions of yours.”
