APC congress did not hold in Rivers, Abe insists

 The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly and a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Magnus Abe, has insisted that congresses of the party did not hold in the state.

Abe, also said that no new executives of the party in the state have been elected. 
 
He however insisted that Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya remains the Chairman of the APC in the state as there were no congresses. 
 
The senator spoke at a brief get-together to mark his 53rd birthday at his liaison office, Freedom House in Port Harcourt. 
 
Earlier, Abe had, in company of his wife, Mrs. Bariyaah Abe, visited the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Ogale in Eleme Local Government Area of the state, the Port Harcourt Children’s Home, Borokiri, the home of the Elderly at Harbour Road and the Compassionate Home, Nkpogu, Port Harcourt. 
 
Speaking, Abe urged his supporters to remain calm and stop insulting leaders and officers of the party, noting that the wrangle in the party would soon be quelled. 
 
“Let me say clearly for the world to hear. There was no APC congress in Rivers State. And we will not accept it. Human beings can do what they want but God will do what he will. 
 
“Let me appeal to all, my supporters, and my opponents to stop attacking Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya on social media. He is still the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State. He has not resigned, and there has not been any Congress to remove him. 
 
“When I spoke last time, I said that we have enemies within the party. Some of them are there and some of them are here. Let me tell those who are there to stop the attacks. And to those here, let’s stop creating enemies for the party because if we create enemies, no one will vote for the APC.”</div>

Immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said that campaigns for 2019 general elections will be interesting because his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will reveal to Nigerians how the alleged looting of the nation´s treasury by the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reign plunged Nigerians into poverty which the APC government under President Muhammadu Buhari is making effort to eliminate.

Oshiomhole, who disclosed this while addressing leaders of the APC in Edo state, predicted that despite the effort being made by the opposition to allegedly misinform Nigerians about the activities of the APC led government, that the APC will win more states in the governorship election and more National Assembly members. He also declared that President Buhari will be re-elected due to his achievements. 
 
According to Oshiomhole who recently received the endorsement of President Buhari and the APC caucus in the senate and House of Representatives to succeed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the National Chairman of the APC,  “it is our task as party activist to painstakingly explain to our people in the rural areas to understand who dug the hole that led to what we are experiencing today as a nation and the effort by President Muhammadu Buhari to gradually pull us out of that hole to the surface and begin to push and uplift us upward to that level in which every Nigerian will have to say I am a proud Nigerian. 
 
“Poverty is not an act of God. It is the result of our economic history. And when you look at the numbers of how much was stolen under the watch of Jonathan as President and the revelations the governor of Gombe state made, the kind of money that was diverted under the PDP regime under President Jonathan, those monies if distributed by 180 million Nigerians, each of us will have a swollen pocket. 
 
“And we must help our people to appreciate that the challenge of rebuilding a house that was rocked beyond foundation, to build complete new foundation cannot be an overnight work. 
What is important is that there is a commitment to refix and the President has broken new grounds which may not have been amplified to a level that the rural people can see them. 
 
“Once upon a time growing up, we were told that the Army´s finances are beyond proud, that whatever a general has stolen, it was for good, you cannot question. 
 
“But this President has subjected the military to accountability. Some persons who were untouchable before are being touched. So, that fight against corruption, I am happy that even other African heads of states under the umbrella of the AU, have acknowledged President Buhari as one African President that has proved his sincerity to fight corruption. And i think even recently the Secretary General of the Commonwealth also had very kind word to say about the leadership of our President on the war against corruption.” 
 
Oshiomhole added that “We are preparing ourselves in getting the truth ready so we can engage. In Edo state, those who participated under the PDP philosophy of share the money, those collected money for either their campaign or their personal interest, they are now being called to account for it. 
 
¨So I am very confident that we will win the next general election, have our President re-elected, have more governors elected under our platform, have more of our party members elected in the states and National Assemblies so that come February next year we will not only form a federal Government we will have overwhelming majority in the National Assembly such that the capacity to govern on the part of the executive will not be weakened by a tight margin in the National Assembly¨ he stated.</div>

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, on Friday asked a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere to quash all the charges filed against him by the Lagos State Government.

Evans said similar charges were pending before a Lagos High Court (Ikeja Division) and therefore should be tried by one judge. 
 
The LASG had brought a fresh set of five counts bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder against Evans and three others, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. 
 
Evans is charged alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba. 
 
In the second charge, Evans is being tried alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba. 
 
At the resumed hearing of the case on Friday, counsel to the first defendant, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, informed the court that he had filed a motion on notice to quash all the charges filed against the first defendant (Evans). 
 
In the motion on notice, Ogungbeje said that all the charges were “grossly defective, repetitive and an abuse of court processes.” 
 
According to him, the prosecution had earlier filed similar charges and amended charges bordering on kidnapping against Evans pending before the same High Court of Lagos State. 
 
He relied on Section 153 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, adding that nothing stopped the prosecution from bringing the charges under one judge. 
 
He said counts three, four and five were repetitions of same offence. 
 
“Apart from the counts being of same offence, same section of the law is being provided in these counts. 
 
“I submit that the prosecution misfired by bringing different charges and instituting the same case in different courts. 
 
“I urge Your Lordship to quash the charge because it is defective and an abuse of court process,” Ogungbeje argued. 
 
‎In her response to the motion, the State Director for Public Prosecutions, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, said: “The general rule is that every offence must be in a separate count.” 
 
Shitta-Bey said that Evans was charged with attempt to murder Mr. James Uduji in count three; while in count four, he was charged with attempt to murder Mr. Donald Nwonye. 
 
“It will be against the provisions of the law to lump the two offences in one count,” she said. 
 
She explained that other charges filed against the first defendant before other judges involved different defendants, different offences and different victims. She, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the application. 
 
Meanwhile, the third defendant, Linus Okpara, in the second charge, has urged the court in a motion on notice to quash the two counts preferred against him. 
 
He made the application through his counsel, Mr. Jude Igbanoi, adding that the proof of evidence did not disclose any prima facie case against him. 
 
“I will align myself with the arguments made by the first defendant. I urge this honourable court to quash the charge; there is nothing in the proof of evidence linking the third defendant to the charge,” Igbanoi said. 
 
The prosecutor, in responding to the third defendant’s motion, told the court that the proof of evidence disclosed a prima facie case against him. 
 
She said that the proof of evidence disclosed where the third defendant admitted collecting the sum of N2m for the first defendant in relation to one of the victims, Uche Okorafor. 
 
“I, therefore, urge the court to discountenance the third defendant’s argument,” DPP said. 
 
Justice Adedayo Akintoye, after listening to all the arguments, adjourned the case until June 26 for ruling. 
 
NAN also reports that the alleged kidnap kingpin was arrested on June 10, 2017 and was, in August 2017, arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi at an Ikeja High Court for kidnapping. 
 
He was also arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of Ikeja High Court, Lagos.</div>
