Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has vowed never to castigate President Muhammadu Buhari to prove that he was still in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).Umahi made the declaration on Saturday night in Abakaliki during a media chat and dinner he organised for journalists as part of the 2018 Democracy Day celebrations.

The governor noted that his decision was a matter of principles, stressing that Buhari remained his only boss.“I have left all those issues to political parties not because the president is doing everything right but because he is not God. 
 
“He might not be doing everything 100 per cent but it is not my duty to castigate my boss and will only face my duties.“It is also not my duty to write petitions about the past administration in the state and I am focused towards my duties as child of God who has a calling and is committed,” he said. 
 
The governor noted that corruption was not a party affair but an issue that has to do with the individual engaging in it.“The Bible says that with the fear of God, men depart from evil and without effective tackling of corruption, Nigeria will never develop. 
 
“It is not an issue concerned with the PDP and if those who decamped from the party to the country’s ruling party says it is corrupt, then they have infected their new party with corruption,” he said.He declared that his constant mention of opposition members in the state during solidarity rallies in his honour does not mean that he was threatened by their activities and antics. 
 
“No member of the opposition can stand for election with me because they have no base in the state and are only deceiving the people.“They are not working for the president as they deceitfully claim but are big minuses for the opposition party because most of them don’t own houses in the state. 
 
“They boast of using the federal might to rig the 2019 elections but the youths have warned anyone planning to execute such act to write two things: the fake results and his will,” the governor said.Umahi listed his administration’s development strides in education, health, human empowerment, infrastructure and security, among others, noting that Ebonyi would be Nigeria’s Dubai after his eight years tenure. 
 
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that journalists and individuals across the state and beyond asked questions on state and national issues.Top government officials including the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, legislators and some cabinet members, among others, were however locked out because of lateness.But they were admitted into the venue after the interactive session.

he Adamawa Ministry of Health has confirmed that the cases of cholera outbreak in Mubi have risen to 434 with 13 deaths.The Information Officer of the Ministry, Mr Abubakar Muhammed, confirmed the number, via a statement he issued on Sunday in Yola.

The statement reads: ” Total number of cases reported from Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas as at 26th May, 2018 stand at 434 cases with 13 deaths. 
 
” While the Case Fatality Rate (CFR ) is 3.0 per cent ; Mubi North has 211 cases and 7 deaths equivalent to 3.3 per cent case fatality rate.” Mubi South has 223 cases with 6 deaths and case fatality rate is 2.7 per cent.” 
 
The Principal Medical Officer of Mubi General Hospital, Dr Ezra Sakawa, however said that most of the infected patients have been treated and discharged. 
 
It will be recalled that Mubi was hit by cholera outbreaks two week ago, a development expert linked to contaminated water. 
 
About 90 per cent of Mubi residents obtain their water from water vendors, who source water from boreholes meant for irrigation along the banks of River Yedzaram.

The diagnosis for Mohamed Salah’s injury is “instability in the shoulder joint ligaments” and the estimated duration of his treatment is two weeks, according to Egypt’s Youth and Sports Minister Khaled Abdel Aziz.

In a post on his Facebook page, Aziz wrote that the medical team at Liverpool club contacted the medical team of the Egyptian football team and sent them X-rays, establishing an agreement on his treatment method. 
 
It was also agreed that Salah would remain in Liverpool to receive proper treatment and rehabilitation, after which he would then join the Egyptian team camp in Italy at a later time determined by the doctors, Aziz said. 
 
Aziz added that Salah would hopefully be in the final list of Egypt’s team at the World Cup, to be officially announced on June 4. 
 
He stated that the faith, determination, and patriotism of Salah would help him pass this difficult period quickly. 
 
Aziz wished a speedy and full recovery for Salah, and that he would lead the Egyptian team to glory at the World Cup. 
 
Salah sustained his injury last night on May 26 during the Champions League final, when Sergio Ramos grabbed Salah by the arm and tackled him. Salah promptly received treatment to return to the field, but was unable to continue for more than two minutes. 
 
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi officially wished a speedy recovery for the superstar football player. 
 
“My heartfelt wishes to the Egyptian hero Mohamed Salah for his speedy recovery, and I hope he will return to the field soon and remain a shining Egyptian star,” Sisi stated on his official Twitter account. 
 
Social media witnessed a great campaign of solidarity and goodwill wishes for Salah’s recovery, with hopes that he could return to the field again and catch up with the national team for the World Cup finals in Russia.

 A former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against deploying Federal might to subvert the will of the people in the July 14 governorship election in favour of his party, the All Progressives Congress(APC).

Jonathan said the will of the people must be allowed to stand at all times, because power belongs to them and we must respect their verdict through the ballots”, he advised. Jonathan also told President Buhari to stop labeling Nigerian youth as being lazy, urging him to stop using Nigeria as a bad example of a failed nation at the international scene. 
 
The former number one citizen , also praised the people of Ekiti State for their supports tor the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), urging them to support the youthful team put up to succeed Governor Ayodele Fayose in the gubernatorial election. 
 
 He was referring to the youthful PDP governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola and his running mate, Mr. Deji Ogunsakin. Speaking while inaugurating the 1.2 kilometres long flyover built by Fayose in Ado Ekiti Friday evening , Jonathan described Fayose as an exemplary leader and loyal party man, who has done the PDP proud in all facets. He said: “ I don’t believe anybody can defeat the PDP in Ekiti if election is going to be held. 
 
I want to advise President Buhari not to deploy power to truncate Ekiti election. “Though as a president, you have the power but don’t do that becaue of posterity. History will record whatever you do and the power of a leader is determined after leaving office and not when he is in the office. 
 
On the statement credited to President Buhari that Nigerian youths are slothful, Jonathan retorted: “Nigerians youth are not lazy, I don’t believe that, because I have worked with them closely. They are great people with great potentials who should be celebrated by any leader. “As leaders, we must make sure we present a country that will make us proud and not to use our country as a negative example in Africa to the outside world. “The idea of portraying Nigerians negative manners had occurred on two occasions under this present government. 
 
These are mistakes we should not make. “I want to thank you for your supports for the PDP since 2015 and we expect you to do more in the coming governorship election” Speaking further, Jonathan added: “Fayose will never compromise the interest of Ekiti people for anything . He is a leader who speaks truth to power, in fact Fayose is a leader and he has done well for his people. Speaking on education, Jonathan said: “Any leader who wants to encourage his people must encourage the education of the youth. If you don’t encourage the youths, they will be exploited . 
 
“As youths, you have to be aware that we are operating a knowledge based economy, so you must be proficient in the use of computer, this you can’t compromise if you want to fit into the 21st century economy. “At a time, Ekiti was becoming low in ranking in education, we were surprised but through effective leadership of Ayodele Fayose, there was improvement”.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has come under heavy attacks from Nigerians over his failure to withdraw policemen attached to some ‘very important persons’, especially politicians and other private-sector players, who are not constitutionally entitled to have policemen as aides.

It was gathered on Saturday that thousands of policemen were still guarding former political office holders, including ex-senators, former governors, and ex-House of Representatives members, as well as businessmen who were enjoying police protection at the expense of the public. 
 
 
 
The IG had announced the withdrawal of the policemen on March 19 and gave April 20 as the deadline, but checks showed that the majority of the personnel had yet to return to their respective commands, a month after the deadline expired. 
 
The announcement followed a disclosure that about 80 per cent of policemen were working as security guards to prominent Nigerians. 
 
Apart from those attached to politicians and other VIPs, our correspondent learnt that many zonal commands and formations had surpluses of policemen who were not engaged in core policing duties. 
 
A source explained that each of the 36 state governors also had at least 200 policemen attached to them. 
 
One of our correspondents further gathered that many policemen on duty at police colleges in Lagos, Jos, Enugu, Kano, and in other police institutions across the country, are redundant as they don’t perform core policing duties. 
 
On why the IG did not withdraw the policemen from the VIPs, a senior officer said, “The IG would not withdraw the policemen from VIPs because he doesn’t want to be blamed in case something untoward happens to any of them. That is why he said the VIPs should revalidate,” the officer explained. 
 
But security experts and a civil rights group condemned the IG for failing to withdraw the policemen from individuals who are not entitled to them, describing it as unfortunate. 
 
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights described the non-withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs as unfortunate, alleging that the police authorities and individuals made money from such postings.

Meanwhile, the police authorities said they had withdrawn policemen attached to VIPs and other individuals not constitutionally entitled to police personnel. 
 
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, said the police orderlies had been withdrawn from those who were not entitled to them, noting that some of them were redeployed to various patrol and investigation units. 
 
He could however not provide the number of withdrawn personnel adding that the figures were still being collated. 
 
“We have withdrawn the policemen from those who are not entitled to them, but I cannot give you the number of those that have been withdrawn now because the figure is still being collated nationwide,” Moshood said on Saturday.

Atiku hopes to seek the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). 
 
His supporters are said to be preparing for the kick-off of a massive mobilization and campaign by the end of next month. 
 
Atiku’s Media Adviser, Mr. Paul Ibe, when contacted said he had no information about the building in question. 
 
“Where I am operating from now is the Atiku Media Office; eventually, we would have to get a building for that (campaign) purpose but I am not yet aware of any in the place that you described,” Ibe stated.

Nigerians travel-ling overseas can now heave a sigh of relief following the release of new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directives that make it much easier for people in this category to access foreign exchange for their travelling needs.

A statement Saturday night by the apex bank’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okoroafor, stated that in a bid to ensure that eligible travelers are able to access foreign currency and make liquidity available in the market, the CBN had issued the following instructions to banks: 
 
“All Deposit Money Banks are mandated to buy and sell foreign currency to travelers (both customers and non-customers) upon presentation of relevant valid travel documents such as visa and tickets over the counter. All travelers shall be attended to immediately at the bank’s counters. Any contravention will be sanctioned by the CBN. 
 
“All Bureaux de Change (BDCs) shall henceforth access dollars from the CBN on Monday’s, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is compulsory that all BDCs access currency at least three times weekly.” 
 
The statement warned that BDCs that failed to access the FX window at least three times weekly would have their licenses reviewed by the CBN – emphasizing that compliance with the new directive was compulsory.
