We need a President who will be able to work 24 hours and read all memos, stand at meetings and debate with people and the parliament. We don’t need a figurehead president that the likes of Amaechi are praying for.<br /> <br /> “I know that people like him want a president they can deceive, who will not be on top of happenings in their ministries and in the country. They want a president who won’t watch television and who will not read newspapers. If that is what they want, they will meet their Waterloo in 2019.”<br /> <br /> Secondus added that the battle ahead would be between what he called a desperate cabal and Nigerians who he said “will be desirous to get freed from the grip of the wicked.”<br /> <br /> The National Publicity Secretary of the R-APC, Kassim Afegbua, said Nigerians deserved better than a President on a sickbed to provide leadership in the 21st century.<br /> <br /> Afegbua said, “Unknown to Hon. Minister Amaechi, Nigerians do not want a man on sickbed, hence there is a general consensus that this present leadership should quit.<br /> <br /> “The country is terminally ill as a result of bad and ineffective leadership. Nigerians have been prevailing on the President to sit down and offer leadership, but he has been racking his brain.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said he is still a member of the APC. The governor, who spoke through his Director-General, Media, Abubakar Shekara, stated this while reacting to claims by Amaechi.<br /> <br /> Among others, Amaechi had said Tambuwal would defect from the APC, adding that Buhari would win Sokoto State without the governor in the APC.<br /> <br /> Shekara said the governor would not take issue with the minister.<br /> <br /> He stated, “My principal will right now, not take issue with anybody on who will win in what state, particularly Sokoto.<br /> <br /> “Maybe, he would have reacted if the comment is centred on the candidate of another party and not the APC, which he is a bonafide member. How do you expect him to be taking issue with a fellow party member on the fortune of his party?”<br /> <br /> Shekara also seized the opportunity to denounce speculations surrounding Tambuwal’s planned defection from the APC.<br /> <br /> He added, “Tambuwal is still a member of the APC, and if there would be need for him to defect to another party, he would make his stand known at the appropriate time.”<br /> <br /> Amaechi could not be reached for comments as his mobile indicated that it was switched off when one our correspondents called him.

Some also asked President Buhari to ease her out if she could not fault the facts contained in the story.<br /> <br /> However, three weeks since the story was published, both the government and Mrs Adeosun have maintained what one newspaper called “audacious contempt” for Nigerians on the scandal.<br /> <br /> <i>Punch Newspaper</i>, in an editorial published on Friday said the silence of Mrs Adeosun and the government is “very disrespectful of the right of Nigerians to know”.<br /> <br /> But while the government apparently hopes ignoring the issues raised will push it to oblivion, it appears Nigerians are not willing to let it pass, going by the incessant demands for probity on the matter.<br /> <br /> “Adeosun has kept an un-dignified silence about so grave an allegation and her employers, the Federal Government, has been wooly-mouthed in its comment on the matter,” wrote The Guardian (Nigeria) in a July 25 editorial.<br /> <br /> In the days since the story was first published, at least two former officials of the NYSC – a retired director of mobilisation, and a former director general of the Corps, publicly faulted possibility of Mrs Adeosun obtaining such document from the NYSC.<br /> <br /> Maharazu Tsiga, who was the NYSC boss as at September 2009, the period Mrs Adeosun’s purported certificate was allegedly issued, revealed that there was no way such a thing could happen, stressing that service is mandatory for anyone who graduated within the required age.<br /> <br /> In a July 15 editorial, <i>Daily Trust newspaper </i>criticised the minister and the federal government for keeping silent on the issue, warning that attempts to shield Mrs Adeosun from “sack and prosecution” will make the government’s “touted anti-corruption stance” to “fly out through the window”.<br /> <br /> According to the newspaper, “It is very strange indeed that a top government official will keep mute when such a serious allegation is made against her. It is doubly strange that the Buhari Presidency, which at the drop of the coin touts integrity and anti-corruption as its defining ethic, has kept mute over this matter for so long”.<br /> <br /> In its Friday editorial, <i>The Punch</i> described as sad “that Nigeria is once again making herself a laughing stock before other nations. What everybody expects is that, by now, the government should have set the machinery in motion to carry out a thorough investigation into the entire sordid affair”.<br /> <br /> The newspaper, agreed with many other commentators on what the government ought to have done “if the minister herself does not consider it fit to step down for her name to be cleared”. <i>The Punch</i> editors wrote that “it is the responsibility of the government to have asked her to do so”.<br /> <br /> <i>The Guardian newspaper,</i> summarizes that, with this scandal, “decent Nigerians and friends of Nigeria elsewhere, lament the loss of a sense of shame and the increasing dearth of integrity in high places in this land”.<br /> <br /> This sense of shame and outrage, the newspaper referred to, is captured in a number of social media posts dotting the online space.<br /> <br /> A number of commentators are however posting to keep the issue alive, insisting that it should be addressed, rather than sweeping it under the carpet.<br /> <br /> “Kemi Adeosun ought to speak or resign. Really. The silence is disgusting. Contrary comments to this post are disabled.” Tweeted famous blogger, Japeth Omojuwa on July 22.<br /> <br /> Dipo Awojide, tweeting from the handle @OgbeniDipo suggested a resignation note for the minister.<br /> <br /> <blockquote class="tr_bq"><i><b>‘“I thank President Buhari for the confidence in me and in appointing me to serve as Minister of Finance. Indeed, I have fallen short of what is expected as a public officer. I have tendered my resignation. I apologise to Mr President and all Nigerians.” – Kemi Adeosun</b></i></blockquote> “An idea.”<br /> <br /> <blockquote class="tr_bq"><i><b>“In the last 3 weeks, the Ekiti election, with all its drama, has been won & lost; Nigeria Air, with all its debate, has been launched; the Senate President has been blocked in; and Legislators have defected and un-defected. That’s how long Kemi Adeosun and NYSC have been silent”</b></i> wrote Joe Abah (DrJoeAbah) on Thursday.</blockquote> On July 18, BudgIT co-founder, Oluseun Onigbinde, tweeted “After this Kemi Adeosun saga with no since word from Buhari or Aso Rock, please don’t bring the word “Integrity” near me. After stripping you naked they are now trying to cover you up with a piece of cloth at the dying minute when they saw you have grown to become a threat to their survival. It will be unwise for him to remain in the APC if he truly wishes himself well.”<br /> <br /> Discarding the insinuation that the Senate President could lose his seat if he was sacked from the APC or he decided to leave the party, Okupe said: “A sack from a political party does not invalidate Saraki’s election as a member of the Senate and the Senate President, don’t forget that Senator Buruji Kashamu has just been expelled from the PDP and he remains in the Senate. If the APC decides to sack Saraki from the party, he cannot lose his seat as the President of the Senate.”

I know the problem associated with not being paid on time not to talk of being owed several months of salaries. Non-payment of salaries affects not only the employee, but the whole society.<br /> <br /> “Adamawa for instance, is a civil service-based economy. In those days, public servants could go to the markets and take things on credit because there was a guarantee that their salaries would be paid.”<br /> <br /> The ambassador pledged to use his wealth of experiences in the civil service and his international exposure, to attract both local and foreign investors to the state in order to boost its internal revenue, if elected governor next year.
