Meanwhile, this was discussed at the level of PACT and we resolved that excellence should be the basis for our voting.<br /> <br /> “In the new Nigeria that we seek, anybody from any part of the country can become anything, irrespective of where he or she comes from.<br /> <br /> “Prof Kingsley Moghalu was there from the beginning to the end. He participated in the first and second rounds. He hugged Durotoye and congratulated him after the result was announced in the hall.”<br /> <br /> A presidential aspirant of the Young Democratic Party, Toye Akingbola, expressed disappointment with the disagreement among members of PACT.<br /> <br /> He said, “I’m not a member of PACT but I am not unaware of what transpired. No matter how good a person is, no matter how fantastic these presidential aspirants are, there is only one seat and only one person can march out to give us the Presidency.<br /> <br /> “For those who have pulled out because they felt that Fela Durotoye shouldn’t have been the one to come on board, they shouldn’t have because if you knew you were not going to accept defeat, why did you join PACT?”<br /> <br /> Akingbola stated that he was especially unhappy about Moghalu’s decision to pull out of PACT.<br /> <br /> Another presidential aspirant, Tope Adefemiwa, an aspirant on the platform of Kowa Party, also lamented the decision of the four aggrieved aspirants to pull out, arguing that it had affected the strength of the coalition.<br /> <br /> Adefemiwa added, “PACT is just a few of the presidential aspirants coming together. It’s not supported by all the presidential aspirants. Hence, while some aspirants pulled out, we still have 18 others in PACT.<br /> <br /> “However, since there is confusion in PACT and some aspirants had disagreed on the choice of the consensus candidate, PACT doesn’t seem to be having the strong ground to pursue its objectives.”<br /> <br /> One of the aspirants, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Yes I was a part of PACT, but like eight others, including Jaiye Gaskiya, Tope Fasua and Yele Sowore, we did not believe in consensus before primaries.<br /> <br /> “My position has always been for the aspirants to focus on strengthening themselves and their parties before conceding or even negotiating settlements within any coalition whether PACT or CUPP.<br /> <br /> “PACT is a simple initiative that is a little impatient to take over power, hence its falling to the temptation of picking a consensus even before primaries and picking someone who has effectively lost in his original party. We stepped aside to allow them carry on with their experiment.”

The Boko Haram terrorists have dislodged troops and they are currently in Gudumbali, the headquarters of the Guzamala LGA.”<br /> <br /> Another source in the area confirmed the attack to Sahara Reporters, saying, “It is true. The attacks began yesterday and Boko Haram finally retook Gudumbali from the army.”<br /> <br /> Gudumbali was attacked in November 2015 by the insurgents during which 144 soldiers were killed.<br /> <br /> In July 2018, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, unveiled a cenotaph in remembrance of the officers and soldiers who fell to Boko Haram.<br /> <br /> The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Texas Chukwu, said he had yet to confirm the attack on the town, asking for more time to get the details.<br /> <br /> <br /> He said, “The information you are asking for is what I have just sent for. I have spoken to the personnel in Borno and they are on their way to the area to get the details. When I have the information, I will get back to you.”<br /> <br /> The army spokesman had yet to get back as of 8.30pm press time.

We know that there will definitely be reactions when we are celebrating. But if they (security agents) want to arrest us, we are not afraid of arrest because we are a fearless group.<br /> <br /> “Security agents know we are non-violent and non-violence is the key to the struggle. If they arrest us, they will take us to court and the court will free us because we are a non-violent group,” Okereafor said.<br /> <br /> He called on Igbo people to be patient, noting that Biafra would soon be a reality no matter the move against it by few persons.

VSF Global has yet to respond to an email sent to its official email address on the delay in visa application processing.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that the allegation by the petitioner was built on fiction.<br /> <br /> The EFCC had confirmed that it had started work on a petition linking Kyari to the alleged contract scam.<br /> <br /> The Spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said this in a text message sent to newsmen  on Friday.<br /> <br /> But reacting on Saturday, Shehu denied the allegations, insisting that contrary to the petitioner’s claim, Kyari never met the complainant in a hotel.<br /> <br /> He also said that the contract said to have involved the supply of 15 Hilux vehicles for the Presidency could not have existed as it was not in the 2016 or 2017 budget.<br /> <br /> He stated, “The Presidency takes strong offence to the improbable and outlandish publication by <i>Punch newspaper</i> today in a dig at presidential aide Abba Kyari who was alleged to have collected N29m bribe to award a contract.<br /> <br /> “We wish to state with full authority that the allegation is wrong and the chief of staff did not have any private meetings with the person making those allegations.<br /> <br /> “We equally note that the supply of 15 Hilux vehicles for the Presidency was an unlikely contract to have been awarded, as it did not exist anywhere in the 2016 and 2017 budgets.<br /> <br /> According to the presidential aide, the amount allegedly given as a bribe is also suspicious. Shehu stated that the office of the presidential aide was known in the past to receive impress of N200m and above every month, with no one expected to give account.<br /> <br /> He said, “It was only since Abba Kyari occupied that position that things changed.<br /> <br /> Efforts made to get the spokesman for the Department of State Services, Mr. Nnochirionye Afunanya, failed on Friday as calls made to his telephone indicated that it was switched off. A text message sent to the mobile also did not deliver.

That’s what a country driven by a worldview can achieve.<br /> <br /> “In accepting the presidential ticket of this great party, I stand here before you to say that Nigeria is fully capable of achieving greatness at home and abroad in our lifetimes.<br /> <br /> “But this cannot happen with the normal way of doing things, the so-called Nigerian way.”<br /> <br /> Moghalu said that he joined the YPP because he believed the party would live up to its name of being progressive, as well as be an agent of raising standards across the board for politics and policy.<br /> <br /> He said that it was time for the country to close the era of waste, corruption, and incompetence that held Nigeria back from achieving its potential.<br /> <br /> “It is a choice between remaining a mere fractious assortment of ethnicities and religious on one hand and building a real nation on the other.<br /> <br /> “It is a choice between freedom and slavery under our recycled and corrupt politicians; between poverty and prosperity for our masses of the poor, and the unemployed, and between stability and continuing instability of the Nigeria state.”<br /> <br /> Moghalu also expressed worry about non signing of the Amended Electoral Act Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br /> <br /> Earlier, YPP National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri said that Nigeria did not suffer from want of resources both natural and human.<br /> <br /> “As a party, our policy thrust shall revolve around developing the rich human capital that is in abundance in Nigeria.<br /> <br /> “In pursuit of a knowledge economy, education shall be the hub of our development quest since no nation can grow beyond the quality of her education.”<br /> <br /> He said on the debate of restructuring, the position of the YPP was crystal clear that the present structure was not sustainable.<br /> <br /> “The key to running a globally competitive economy rest entirely on restructuring our present socioeconomic and political system to empower component units to operate maximally.<br /> <br /> “Our party will take a bold step of an all-inclusive engagement with critical stakeholders to immediately see how the exclusive list can be decongested to relinquish more responsibilities to the States.”<br /> <br /> He said that the party was ready to take over the country’s leadership.(NAN)
