The Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that over N14tn has been looted under the Muhammadu Buhari administration by All Progressives Congress leaders. 
 
In a statement on Saturday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the Federal Government should recover the money allegedly looted by the APC chiefs. 
 
Ologbondiyan said, “It is disheartening that instead of President Buhari to seek ways to recover the over N14tn looted by APC leaders and the cabal in the Presidency, Mr President is seeking to inflict more pain on distraught Nigerians by imposing new taxes on them in the coming year.

“The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation condemns as punitive, the plans by President Buhari to impose new taxes on Nigerians who are already overburdened, impoverished and pauperised by his incompetent, insensitive, uncaring, vindictive and corrupt administration.” 
 
But the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, said the party’s three year in power had remedied the 16 wasteful years of the PDP. 
 
Oshiomhole said this in Lafia, Nasarawa State, while presenting the party’s flag to the APC governorship candidate in the state Audu Sule and his deputy Emmanuel. 
 
He urged Nigerians to vote for President Buhari in order to continue the development of the country.

 Rebecca Sharibu, mother of Leah, says despite the consequences the family is totally behind their daughter’s courageous decision not to deny her faith in this interview with The Nation newspaper in Yola, Adamawa State.

Since the ministers visited you in Dapchi, have you heard from any government official again? 
 
I have not had any feedback from them since they came and left. Nothing has been heard. 
 What exactly did they tell you when they came? 
 
When they came, they told me to be patient. They told me that by the grace of God, the government is working very hard to make sure that my daughter is released from Boko Haram. Just three days after they left, Hauwa Liman was killed by Boko Haram. That made me confused and more afraid. I have being thinking seriously about this matter. Since then I have not heard anything from them. 
 
What about Boko Haram? Since Leah was taken away, has anybody from the group called to discuss with you? 
 
Not at all. They have never called any of us in the family. 
 As a mother, how are you coping considering the circumstance surrounding Leah’s absence? 
 
I cannot explain it at all. I have been traumatised. I cannot stop thinking about this girl. Everyday passing day, I wake up with the hope of seeing my daughter but to no avail. It is really a feeling I cannot express. I am just alive by the grace of God. The absence of Leah in this family… (bursts into tears).

Leah is a well-trained girl. If Leah were here, she does all the home chores. Leah washes my clothes, her father’s and her brother’s clothes and cooks for the entire family. She doesn’t allow anything to be left undone. She was such a pillar to this family but today we can’t see her. I miss her so much. Before I wake up from bed, Leah would have swept the house, fetched water and cooked. That is my daughter for you. She is such a very dependable girl. I only wake up and eat food. My daughter will do everything in the house. I can’t even describe the life I live now. 
 Are you receiving any financial or psychological support from government officials at any level given the trauma that you’re facing now? 
 
Nobody visited me at Dapchi apart from the ministers that came here. They came and gave N500,000. Apart from that, there is no support from anywhere. I only saw the principal of the school in my house the day the ministers came. That is the day I also saw the chairman of the Local Government too. 
 What about the community? Have they also deserted you? 
 
Ah! The Dapchi community are very wonderful. People come here to visit me all the time. Both the Muslims and Christians are always with me praying and sympathising with me – encouraging me not to give up over Leah’s freedom. The people are not happy at all. 
 Do you still believe that Leah will come back? 
 
For me, my only hope is on God now. That is where my hope comes from. I don’t really understand because government told me that they are doing their best and just a few days after they visited me in Dapchi, Hauwa was killed. Since that development, I have not heard about Leah again. I don’t know what is happening at all. On our part, we cannot do anything because I cannot go to rescue my daughter from Boko Haram. I only wait for God. If God says Leah will return, she will surely come back no matter how long it stays. But if God says she won’t return, we will still give Him all the glory. He is the author and finisher of our faith. We can’t question God’s decision. 
 When the ministers came was there any contact that was established between you and them – like any of them collecting your phone number or you collecting their phone numbers? 
 
Nobody collected my phone number, neither did any of them give me their phone number. That is how they came and left. I have no contact with any of them and none of them has ever called me. 
 Can you remember how you raised her? 
 
Leah has a loving spirit that endears her to the people. Everybody loves her. She is humble, gentle, hardworking and kind-hearted. I taught her how to love and respect elders. I brought her up with the fear of God and she loves her God so much. She knows how to live with people without hurting anyone deliberately. Leah is such an exceptional girl that every mother will be proud of. 
 If you see Leah today, what will you do or say to her? 
 
Where will I see her (she starts crying)? Where is Leah? Let me see her… where is she (sobbing continues)? 
 If Boko Haram call you on phone today and ask Leah to speak with you, what will you tell her? 
 
She did the right thing. I have no regrets for what she did. I cannot blame her for what she did. If today I am told that Leah is no more, I will be happy because she did not deny her God. People say it is because of her stubbornness that she is still in the custody of Boko Haram; I have heard all that talk. But for us, she did the right thing in the sight of God and the family fully stands with her on the decision she took. She has stood by her faith and we are proud of her. 
 What is your message to the government of Nigeria? 
 
My message to government is always an appeal for them to double efforts and bring my daughter back to me the same way the other children were brought back from Boko Haram. That is my appeal. 
 Has anybody told you to your face that it is Leah’s decision that is responsible for her still being held in Boko Haram custody? 
 
Nobody has told me that to my face, but a lot say that behind my back and the people that like me will come and tell me. Some people have told me that this is what people are saying about my daughter’s decision not to renounce her religion. 
 What do you say to such talk? 
 
As you know, my mind is now occupied with more important things than to engage in those kinds of cheap talk. It is not my business to respond to such kind of talk. After all, nobody will say that to my face but like I said, we are proud of Leah’s decision not to renounce her faith and we are behind that. We look unto the Almighty God over her predicament. 
 What kind of security do you enjoy in Dapchi town? 
 
My security in this town is God. But I must say that nobody is pursuing me out of Dapchi. I have excellent relations with the people of the town. For now, I am waiting for the return of my daughter before I will know what to do. I have no problem staying in Dapchi but my heart is heavy here. 
 What exactly did President Buhari tell you at the time he called you? 
 
It was the same thing that the minister who came to Dapchi told me that the President said to me. He told me that he is working very hard to bring my daughter out of the hands of Boko Haram. I want the president to match his words with action by doing everything possible as he said to bring my daughter to me. This is my appeal to the president.

The internet is awash with a flood of congratulatory messages following the news that Nollywood actress Funke Akindele (aka Jenifa) has given birth to twins. 
 
The social media have been awash with messages for her and her husband Rasheed Bello, better known as JJC Skillz. 
 
Many congratulatory messages have been posted on the Instagram accounts of Funke and Skillz, but there has been no official statement from the couple, who married in 2016. 
 
Funke’s sister, Ayo Ola-Muhammed, broke the news on Instagram yesterday. 
 
She wrote “The boys arrived on Friday in Los Angeles, U.S. They are the couple’s first children since they tied the knot in 2016 in the United Kingdom.” 
 
The 41-year-old actress lost a set of twins in 2017.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is considering the probe of some state governors for allegedly diverting fees meant for payment to consultants who assisted states on the London-Paris Club loan refund. 
 
Some states may not be able to access the last tranche of refund of about $2,689,279,365 unless they allow the federal government to deduct the consultants’ fees at source. 
 
The consultants are insisting on the payment of their $350million before the $2.6billion is released to states. 
 
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that while the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) offered to pay its consultants about two per cent for services, most states promised their consultants between five to 10 per cent. 
 
The NGF had hired Biz Plus Limited and GSL Consulting Limited as its consultants 
 
Some governors that did not hire consultants are now alleged to have collected consultancy fess between five and 10 percent for themselves.

President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the release of N522.74 billion (first tranche) refund to states pending reconciliation of records following protests by states against over deductions for external debt service between 1995 and 2002. 
 
Each state was entitled to N14.5 billion or 25% of the amount claimed. 
 
The second tranche of N243.79billion was released in December 2017. 
 
The release of the cash was trailed by a huge controversy, including payment of N19billion consultancy fees and $86million into the accounts of the NGF. 
 
The EFCC in the last two and a half years had been investigating the alleged diversion of the N19billion under the guise of consultancy fees. 
 
About $183,000 out of the N3.5billion was transferred to a jewellery firm in Dubai bring patronized by some ranking Senators. 
 
About four suspects are already facing trial for alleged conversion of N3.5billion out of N19billion London-Paris Club refund to states. 
 
But investigation revealed that many governors and past governors are in trouble over the refund. 
 
Findings revealed that most governors have not paid the consultants they engaged to trace their loan records, repayment and their states’ share of refund. 
 
A reliable source, who spoke in confidence, said: “We are still investigating the London-Paris Club refund because there had been issues on the cash. Some governors have diverted the refund and deducted consultancy fees without paying consultants. 
 
“Most governors have reneged on the agreement to pay the consultants engaged by their states. 
 
“While the NGF offered to pay consultants about two per cent, some states negotiated five to 10% with their consultants. Yet these governors have deducted the consultancy fees from the refunds made to their states without paying the consultants. 
 
“There is a case of state which got over N11billion. The governor of the affected state violated the agreement and paid only a pittance of N15million to the consultants. 
 
“Some state governors did not engage consultants but they paid consultancy fees to themselves through their cronies. 
 
“So far, about $350million is the accumulated consultancy fees. Despite the approval by the presidency NGF does not want $350million released to consultants at all.” 
 
The source said: “One of the governors who diverted N500million out of the London-Paris Club refund was uncovered and he has lost the cash to the Federal Government. 
 
“We have more instances. Some former governors, who had nothing to do with the refund, brought in consultants in order to benefit from the exercise.” 
 
A government source said: “The position of the presidency is that the $350million out of about $2,689,279,365 final tranche of London-Paris Club refund should be paid to the consultants. 
 
“In fact the presidency directed that the consultancy fees should be deducted and remitted into a dedicated in CBN. 
 
“The governors are opposed to deduction from source. They said since the cash belongs to states, the presidency should leave governors to relate with their consultants. They also claimed that the presidency was never part of any agreement between states and consultants.”

From Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the yoruba people of South-West, Nigeria yesterday came a piece of advice: vote President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 2019 election to stand a good chance of producing his successor in 2023. 
 
Osinbajo spoke in Oyo during a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi. 
 
The vice president said onus is on the Southwest to show that it wants to produce the president in 2023. 
 
Buhari, according to him, has performed well to deserve a second term in office. 
 
“The 2019 election is our own. We are not looking at 2019 but 2023,” he said. 
 
“If we get it in 2019, Yoruba will get it in 2023. Because if we don’t get it in 2019, we may not get it in 2023 and it may take a very long time to get it. 
 
“We need to look at tomorrow and not because of today. What we are doing now is for tomorrow and not for today.”

He said Buhari has shown that he has zero tolerance for corruption. 
 
His words: “What I know about Buhari is that he is an honest man. What he says he will do, he will do it.” 
 
He urged the people of the Southwest to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). 
 
“Now, they are regrouping. These are the people that ruled for 16 years and they say they want to come back again. They are corrupt. Though, it is still difficult because no man or woman can build a house without a foundation,” he said. 
 
Oba Adeyemi earlier in his address described Vice President Osinbajo as a cerebral lawyer who has excelled in his profession. 
 
He said, “He is a good lawyer. The case he instituted on behalf of Lagos State when the federal government withheld the local government allocations in Lagos State during the Obasanjo regime, he won the case. And it was Yar’Adua that paid the money. The load you are carrying is big, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, you will succeed.”

About four Nigerians are being detained in the United Kingdom under the Immigration Act after police boarded a cargo ship amid reports of stowaways threatening crew. 
 
Essex Police said the vessel, in the Thames Estuary, was boarded at around 11pm on Friday and was taken to the Port of Tilbury in Essex. 
 
It arrived at just after 4.20am yesterday, according to MarineTraffic.com. 
 
The ship’s operator, Grimaldi Lines, said four stowaways had been found on board and were armed with iron tubes. 
 
They were said to be calling on the crew to navigate closer to the coast. 
 
The force was called at around 9.15am on Friday relating to the safety of the crew on board the Grande Tema, a 71,000-tonne ship which set off from Lagos, Nigeria, on December 10.

Paul Kyprianou, a spokesman for Grimaldi Lines, told Sky News on Friday morning: “We found four stowaways on the vessel. 
 
“The vessel was coming from Nigeria and was bound to Tilbury, and those four stowaways were in the cabin, and today they managed to escape from the cabin and they started threatening the crew, requesting the master of the vessel navigating very close to the coast. 
 
“That request was probably because they wanted to jump and reach the British coast. 
 
“The crew reacted and they locked themselves in the bridge of the vessel and so they are safe, we haven’t had any injuries.” 
 
The force said the ship was secure and there were no reports of injuries.

How would the All Progressives Congress (APC) sanction two of its state governors for allegedly working against the interest of the party in next year’s elections? 
 
That is the dilemma currently facing the ruling party as it weighs the decisions of Governors Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State to work against the aspirations of the party’s candidates in their states in the 2019 elections. 
 
Both governors, after failing to procure the APC governorship and other tickets for their preferred candidates, are believed to be sponsoring them on the platforms of rival parties although they themselves remain senatorial candidates of the APC in their respective states. 
 
They have even threatened to ensure that the APC candidates.other than those endorsed by them,are defeated in the elections. 
 
While Adekunle Akinlade, Amosun’s choice candidate, is now the flag-bearer of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Okorocha’s son-in-law and preferred successor, Uche Nwosu, is the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo.

It was also learnt that Governor Yari of Zamfara State may similarly be sanctioned once the national leadership of the party decides on how best to deal with recalcitrant chieftains. Highly placed party sources said both the NWC and other organs of the party have agreed that it is in the best interest of the APC to sanction the governors before the next general elections. 
 
“We’re deeply troubled by the actions of these governors and other chieftains of the party toeing same lines as them,” a senior party official told newsmen confirming concerns expressed in recent weeks by top party officials. 
 
Asked about the APC leadership’s disposition towards Amosun and Okorocha recently, the spokesperson of the party, Lanre Issa-Onilu, had said the party is displeased with all forms of anti-party activities. 
 
Answering further questions about whether the party will take punitive actions against the duo, Issa-Onilu said “you will hear from us soon.” 
 
A top official of the ruling party confirmed that several meetings have been held to discuss what he described as the “obvious anti-party activities” of Governor Amosun and Okorocha in their states. 
 
“Contrary to opinions currently held in some quarters, it is not true that the party is finding it difficult to move against the two governors and others like them,” the source said. 
 
“To tell you the truth, we have met several times to discuss their cases. And as I speak to you, all major organs of the party are in agreement that something urgent must be done by the party to show the world that we will not tolerate such dissidence. 
 
“Specifically, it has been agreed that it is important that we address the cases of the governors of Ogun and Imo before the next general elections start. This will help boost the confidence of loyal party members in the leadership of the party and send across the right messages that we will not condone indiscipline from anybody, no matter how highly placed. 
 
 
 
“That nobody is saying anything about how we intend to discipline them is because nobody has been authorized to comment on their issues for now. 
 
“What is left is to decide on exactly what to do. Once that is done, APC will show how much it cherishes party discipline and loyalty. Those going about to say they are larger than life will soon be brought right back to life,” he added. 
 
Further checks revealed that considerations such as the effects of the various punitive measures proposed against the governors as well as ongoing efforts by some party elders to mediate in the crises, are part of reasons why Amosun, Okorocha and other APC chieftains currently engaging in alleged anti-party activities, are yet to be sanctioned. 
 
“Yes, it is true that some people are still talking to the parties involved in the crises. Even some of these governors are still asking for negotiations as we speak. Don’t forget one or two of them currently hold our senatorial tickets. So, somehow, we want to see what will come out of the ongoing efforts to talk some sense into those misbehaving. 
 
“Besides that, we are going into general elections. Mr. President is seeking re-election in what many people are describing as a tough electoral challenge. We need all the supports and votes we can get. Our national chairman is a seasoned politician who believes that we must not close the door on negotiation until it is obvious that nothing will come out of it,” another source added. 
 
On Friday Amosun, in a veiled reference to his running battle with the national leadership of the APC, said he only fears God and President Muhammadu Buhari and no one else. 
 
The governor who spoke after receiving a letter from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate for the February 2019 Presidential polls said: “”We don’t fear them. All of them put together, we don’t fear anybody. We fear God and we fear President Muhammadu Buhari. 
 
“We have decided to let them be for the sake of President Buhari. If not for the President, we know what to do.” 
 
He vowed that the Derin Adebiyi-led state executive council of the APC that was dissolved last week by the national leadership of the party would serve out its tenure.
