The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN),  on Sunday, denied any involvement in the dethronement, banishment and detention of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi. 
 
It was gathered that Sanusi in his suit challenging his banishment from Kano State and detention in Awe, Nasarawa State, named Malami and the Attorney-General of Kano State, Ibrahim Muktar, as the ones who instructed the police and the Department of State Services to arrest and detain him after his dethronement. 
 
Both Malami and Muktar are joined along with the Inspector-General Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, as codefendants. 
 
Reacting in a short statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, on Sunday, Malami said he “was not in any way connected with the dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II and his subsequent banishment to Nassarawa State.”

He added, “The issue of who does what over the dethronement saga has been effectively submitted for judicial determination. The matter is consequently sub judice. 
 
“Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice will not comment one way or the other over a matter that is pending before the court.” 
 
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, on March 9, deposed Sanusi because of what the state government called “total disrespect  to lawful instructions from the office of the state government.” 
 
The dethroned monarch was  banished to Loko, a remote location in Nasarawa State. 
 
On Tuesday,  he was relocated to Awe, where he was detained in a guest house up till when Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his release on Friday. 
 
The judge gave the interim order following an ex parte application moved by Sanusi’s lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). 
 
Justice Chikere also directed that the order she issued on Friday should be served alongside the main suit on all the four defendants. 
 
It is expected that Malami and the other defendants would react to the allegations levelled against them in the suit. 
 
The judge fixed March 26 for hearing.

Suspected cult members were reported to have killed three people and dumped their corpse close to the main gate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, in the early hours of Friday. 
 
It was gathered that the assailants after hacking the three victims to death set their corpses ablaze. 
 
A source explained that the killing may not be unconnected with the Thursday’s cult killing of a final year student of Political Science at the Benue State University. 
 
The source said those who struck were on a reprisal to avenge the death of their member.

The varsity’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Joseph Fanafa, who confirmed the incident, noted that those killed were not students of the institution, noting that no student was missing. 
 
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Catherine Anene, said suspected armed robbers were lynched in the area and that two locally-made pistols were recovered at the scene.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday said the explosion which occurred at Abule Ado, Trade Fair axis of Lagos State was not caused by a disruption of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) oil pipeline. 
 
Nigerianeye had earlier reported that residents of Lagos State were thrown into confusion following an explosion on Sunday morning. 
 
Several houses were shaken by the explosion, while some collapsed at Abule-Ado junction. 
Speaking on the incident, Acting Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that contrary to information earlier put out on the social media, the explosion which occurred at about 9a.m. was unconnected to pipeline vandalism. 
 
“From the information given by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service who are currently on ground, the implosion is not connected to pipeline but might have occurred in a factory located in the Abule Ado area.

“Emergency responders are on ground while others are still on their way to the scene. The situation is under control and we hope to get more information soon to ascertain its cause,” he added. 
 
Farinloye also confirmed that several buildings were affected by the explosion which was heard several kilometers away in many parts of the state including Amuwo Odofin, Ijegun and Agege. 
 
He added that NNPC had shutdown the pipeline passing through the area as a precautionary measure after the oil company was notified of the incident.

The Enugu State Government has notified the Federal government of its suspected case of COVID-19, popularly referred to as coronavirus. 
 
This was disclosed in a statement by Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, the Permanent Secretary of the state’s ministry of health. 
 
Dr Agujiobi pointed out that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has been notified of the latest development, while a sample from the suspected case has been taken and sent for further investigations. 
 
The suspected case who happens to be a female has reportedly been in the United Kingdom in the last five months and came into Enugu through Owerri on March 11, 2020, to see her son.

Dr. Agujiobi further said that the suspected case is being closely monitored and the results awaited for further action by the government.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday in Katsina declared that it will not campaign in the 2023 elections, as according to it the failure of the present APC administration at the center has smoothened the way for its takeover of political power at the end of the present tenure. 
 
The National Secretary of the party, Senator Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri told newsmen during a briefing in preparation to the ward congress election which held on Saturday that the Buhari administration has failed Nigerians in the past 5 years as demonstrated in the present sufferings they are going through 
 
He said ’’every Nigerian whether resident in Aso villa or anywhere else in Nigeria will certainly admit that the present administration has failed, as they couldn’t even deliver their three point agenda: economy, security and the fight against corruption’’ 
 
‘’Nigerians have now realized their mistakes in voting Buhari since 2015 elections, see what happened to him in Kebbi state recently if you recall, the three key promises of Buhari, which one has he fulfilled and which one is left’’

On the crisis that has ripped the party in the state, the Senator admitted that the party has challenges in 4 out of the 34 local in the state and that they are currently rallying stakeholders to resolve the challenges 
 
He dismissed the notion that there was a court injunction barring the party from conducting its ward election in the state, insisting that their legal adviser have not notified the party hierarchy about any existing court injunction 
 
He said "if our legal adviser did not draw our attention about any court injunction then we cannot work based on newspaper reports, so the ward elections must go ahead"

Portuguese Football Star, Cristiano Ronaldo whose 65-year-old mother recently suffered stroke has announced his decision to help his native country Portugal in the fight against the pandemic coronavirus. 
 
According to reports, Ronaldo will open all of his hotels for coronavirus victims and will also pay for the services of the doctors, nurses and other health professionals that maybe involved in the humanitarian efforts. 
 
This is to say patients admitted into the makeshift hospital will be treated free of charge courtesy of the football genius. 
 
Recall that after the news about the illness of Juventus defender Daniele Swearing, Ronaldo decided to stay on their island and not to return to Italy, where the virus continues to spread like wide fire.

Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi, yesterday broke down in tears during the funeral mass of his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Tony Iwelu. 
 
Ameachi was choked with emotions and could not continue with the oration, as he broke down while giving an oration during the funeral mass at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South L.G.A, Delta State. 
 
The minister, who described the death of his aide as “one of my greatest shocks and personal losses”, said the deceased has been around his family in the last 17 years. 
 
In his words, “the realisation of Tony’s death was to say, the least an unbelievable occurrence even as it appears to be so.

Tony had through been dedicatedly around me and my family for the past 17 years. I am throughout speechless as it concerns Tony’s death because this is one of my greatest shocks and personal losses.” 
 
Recall Iwelu died following an electric shock in his hotel room in Kaduna. 
 
The Transport ministry’s head of public relations, Eric Ojiekwe, in a statement on Tuesday, said Iwelu had lodged at the hotel after an official assignment in the state. 
 
“The Chief Security Officer to the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. Tony Iwelu died on Monday, February 17, 2020 of electric shock from a shower rose in Stone Edge Hotel, Kaduna where they were lodged after an official assignment.
