Singer Jennifer Lopez and former New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez said Saturday they were “working through some things”, but called reports they had broken up “inaccurate”.
Celebrity news website TMZ, the New York Post’s Page Six and other US media sources reported on Friday that the couple had broken off their engagement.
“All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things,” they said in a joint statement to US media.
Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, became a couple nearly four years ago and had just last year bought a $40 million home in Miami.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
Rodriguez posted a selfie to social media on Friday of himself aboard a boat in Miami.
“Don’t mind me, just taking a sail-fie,” he wrote. “What are your plans for the weekend?”
Lopez was in the Dominican Republic filming a movie and posted Thursday on social media saying “Find a good reason to laugh today.”
“They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up,” a source close to the pair told People magazine.
“She’s working in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami so it’s tough seeing each other,” the source added.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has been asked to restrain and stop President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government from borrowing an estimated N895bn of Nigerians’ money in the form of their unclaimed dividends and balances in dormant accounts, under the guise of the patently unlawful, unconstitutional, and discriminatory legislation known as ‘the Finance Act, 2020.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project filed the lawsuit after the recent move by the Federal Government to take over and borrow unclaimed dividends and dormant account balances owned by Nigerians in any bank in the country. But the same legislation explicitly excludes dormant official bank accounts by all branches of government and their agencies.
In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/31/2021 filed by its lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare and Ms Adelanke Aremo, last Friday, SERAP is seeking “an order of perpetual injunction restraining and stopping President Buhari from demanding, taking over, borrowing, and collecting Nigerians’ money in the form of their unclaimed dividends and funds in dormant accounts or transferring and moving the money into a trust fund known as ‘Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund”.
In the suit, SERAP is arguing that “the Federal Government should not be allowed to borrow Nigerians’ money. Borrowing unclaimed dividends and funds in dormant accounts owned by ordinary Nigerians would negatively affect their right to an adequate standard of living, and access to clean water, quality healthcare, and education.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
“Despite Nigeria’s dwindling oil revenue, the growing level of public debt, and widespread poverty, public officers including the President, Vice President, governors and their deputies, and members of the National Assembly have refused to cut their emoluments, allowances and security votes. At the same time, millions of Nigerians continue to bear the brunt of mismanagement and corruption.”
Joined in the suit as Defendants are: Mr Abubakar Malami SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Ms Zainab Ahmed.

Two aides of Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, have resigned their appointments with the state government.
The duo, Mr Amaechi Oken, a Senior Technical Assistant to the Governor and Apostle Benjamin Obaji, a Technical Assistant, resigned their appointments this month (March).
In their resignation letters dated March 1 and March 8, 2021, respectively, the Governor’s aides cited non-payment of their salaries for some months as the reason for quitting their jobs.
It was gathered that on resignation, the duo joined the Peoples Democratic Party from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>It was gathered that no fewer than nine aides of Governor Umahi had resigned their appointments with the state government since he defected to the APC last November.
While Mr Oken’s resignation letter read in part, “My worry is that while others were paid for January this year, I was not paid. The following month, February too, I have not received any allowances/stipends;
Obaji’s letter partly read, “Sir, let it be noted that my resignation was not politically inclined, but purely on personal grounds, not minding the fact that I have not been paid for the past few months.”

Two residents of Adamawa State have been arrested for allegedly vandalizing an electricity line and stealing some of the cables.
The Adamawa State Police Command which effected the arrest, said it recovered some armoured cables and a Toyota Corolla car from the suspects.
The command in a statement obtained on Sunday morning from the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said operatives of the Command attached to Yoia Division, “While on Area patrol along Rugange – Njoboliyo road, arrested two notorious vandals.”
Nguroje named the suspects as Idi Wakil, 62 years, and Babangida Bello, 54 years, both residents of Madumari ward in Yola South Local Government Area.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
He said the two had been identified to have been vandalising, stealing and selling out armored cables that connect Njoboliyo and other villages to Yola, resulting to power outage in those areas.
He added that the act had been causing loss to the Yola Electricity Distribution company (YEDC) which owns the cables.
According to him, “Investigation further reveals that the suspects are auxiliary staff of YEDC and have been committing similar offences since 2018.”
He said the state Commissioner of police, Aliyu Adamu Alhaji, commended officers and men of Yola Division and members of the community for making it difficult for criminals to escape arrest.

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has said Nigerians should hold the government responsible for banditry and general insecurity in the country.
AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima said it is the sole responsibility of the government to provide security for Nigerians, but it has failed to do so.
Speaking with newsmen, Shettima urged the government to ensure security agencies are adequately equipped with manpower.
According to the AYCF National President: “The government should be held responsible. It’s the sole responsibility of the government to provide security which is key to the citizens.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
“Despite the fact that some of us are aware that the security agencies have been overstretched at one point or the other, we are saying they should consider additional manpower and provide the necessary equipment to encourage these agencies.
“We must consider equipping the Nigerian Armed Forces. Intelligence gathering is key, but they need to build trust between them and the communities, so they can get more information about these criminal minded people. These criminal minded people are in the community and some know them very well.”
In the North, the issue of banditry and kidnapping has been on the rise lately.
Some students in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, and Zamfara States were abducted by bandits.
While students abducted in some states have been released, those from Kaduna State are still with the abductors.

Fans of comedian and actor, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, have often wondered where he gets the energy he exudes from.
In an interview with newsmen he stated that his liveliness and zest for life were inborn.
He said, “My energy is inborn. It has always been in me. Talent cannot be learnt in any school. I studied Visual Arts at the University of Lagos. But with the situation of things in Nigeria, how many people can afford to buy paintings? I had to find another way.
“Whenever I am on set, I am always happy because I know I am going to work. If I am not on a movie set, I would be on my own set shooting skits. If I am not on set, I would be shooting music videos or writing music.”
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
Professing his love for fuji music, Broda Shaggi said, “I am working with Pasuma on a fuji song. Right from my childhood, I have always loved Pasuma and K1 de Ultimate. I love anything that has to do with my culture. That is why I love Yoruba music. I cannot speak Yoruba all the time in my skits because of my audience, which includes fans that don’t speak Yoruba. But in whatever I do, I make sure the Yoruba culture is reflected there.”
Shaggi, who is an ambassador for several brands, also stated that he would keep doing the things the brands saw in him that made them approach him.
