Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, has dismissed claims that he and Cristiano Ronaldo cannot play in the same team.
Ronaldo scored twice while Fernandes also got on the scoresheet, as United beat Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday.
Fernandes instantly became United’s talisman after he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
However, Ronaldo’s arrival this summer, led to questions over whether his influence would wane.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
“‘Of course, that was never in doubt. Good players can be put together and always play well. Some days you can play well, some other days no. But it is not because one is closing the space of another. It’s because football is like that sometimes.
“Everyone knows what Cristiano Ronaldo brought for the club and we are really happy to have him. The most important, as he will say, is the result for the team. Good players can always play well together,” Fernandes told the media after the Newcastle game.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye has reacted to the growing number of transgenders in the world.
The clergyman in a post shared on his Facebook page stated that God is not the author of confusion.
According to him, in the time of creation, God created humans in female and male, yet some people have decided to change their gender as if God did not know what he was doing.
He further noted that God doesn’t make mistakes, while urging that they repent and begin to walk in the path of righteousness again.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
“Our God is the God of distinction; He is not an author of confusion. A man chooses to be confused when he does not want to do the right thing as ordered by God and so pretends that he does not know what God wants from him.
“When God creates, He does so with precision and purpose. He created lights for a purpose and darkness for another.
“God, in his infinite wisdom, created mankind as male and female, yet some people feel the need to change their gender as though He did not know what He was doing when He created them!
“God does not make mistakes. Our God is the perfect God of distinction. He created the day for work and the night to rest. If for any reason we do not rest in one night, the following day should compensate for the loss of rest.
“Failure to observe rest produces stress, sickness and ultimately death. Little wonder life expectancy in the last fifty years has been on the decline. Achievements that should normally have taken forty years to accomplish are realised in fewer than thirty, at the price of dying earlier. The God of distinction says in His word.
“A lot of people have mixed many profane things with the sacred. The God of distinction will never lower His standards. It is our duty to live up to His standards.
“Look into your life and see where you have compromised your values as a Christian. Repent and begin to walk in the path of righteousness again,” he wrote.

The increasing spate of insecurity in some parts of Nigeria especially in the North has instilled fear and raised concerns about the safety of corps members in those states.
Kidnapping by bandits have plagued states like Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Zamfara, which has necessitated a call for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC to be scrapped till security is restored in those states.
It was gathered that some parents and corps members are lamenting about the situation and posting of corps member to states facing insecurity.
An official of NYSC addressing the concerns told Daily Post that measures are in place to ensure the safety of corps members.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
He disclosed that the NYSC act in Nigerian constitution states that corps members must be posted to every state, reason why redeployment is still ongoing in the North.
However, the NYSC official said corps members posted to states like Kaduna, Borno , Zamfara have been given the opportunity to apply for a transfer out of the state if they demand.
According to him, the scheme which is headed by the military does not joke with the safety of corps members and gets first hand information on the state of security in every state before orientation camps begin.
He also mentioned that in a case where a local government or state is under attack, NYSC will immediately transfer corps members from that state or LGA.
“NYSC act in the constitution states you must post corps members to every state and it must reflect in every state. We are not insensitive, we are posting because we have to obey the law of the country. Although we cannot go against the constitution, we take into consideration the insecurity situation in every state.
“We have this policy in states like Adamawa, Yobe, Borno and others plagued by insecurity that those interested in redeploying can apply and it will be granted but some Nigerians still apply for relocation to Borno State.
“NYSC is not insensitive like what most people imagine. The scheme is headed by the military and we have the opportunity of having firsthand information about security situation. Before we start any camp, we look at the security situation. In every camp, we have DSS and security agents working underground. Even the roads to the camps are worked on and monitored.
“Insecurity in Zamfara State is a latest development and NYSC has not decided on that but if you are posted to these states, you can leave. Also the number of corps members posted to these states is way lesser than other states.
“In Kaduna State for example, because of insecurity we shifted the camp to another location and started one week later, also in Plateau State, we did this and have nothing more than 100 corps members. Authorities of NYSC are also parents and we have our staff at these camps and would do anything not to endanger their lives.
“We don’t have the leverage of not posting corps members because of law that governs the scheme but we put in measures to make sure everyone is safe.
Making reference to the recent accident which killed some corps members, our correspondent asked if the scheme is considering posting corps members close to their places of residence, but the official said the scheme has warned prospective corps members travelling to orientation camps to avoid travelling at night to stay safe, adding that most accidents happen at nights.
“Most accidents happen in the night and corps members have been warned not to engage in such travels. They have been warned to stay at any secretariat while embarking on any journey and continue the next day in order to avoid accidents.
“These are the things we can take control and God does the rest.”

Nigerian Afeez Olajide Adebara has been jailed for romance scams and money laundering just days after New York court sentenced another Nigerian for a similar offence.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
Adebara was sentenced on Friday to four years in jail by a court in the Northern District of Oklahoma for managing a group of money launderers in an online Nigerian romance scam.
The scammers, according to evidence provided in court defrauded multiple victims, including elderly individuals across the United States, and caused losses of at least $2.5 million.
The Court further ordered Afeez Adebara, 36, of Norman, also in Oklahoma, to pay $500, 740 in restitution to the victims of the crime.
“Afeez Adebara led a group of money launderers who bilked unsuspecting victims out of their hard-earned retirement and savings accounts as part of a Nigerian romance scam,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.

“This con artist and his cohorts have been brought to justice thanks to the work of the FBI and federal prosecutors Babasijibomi Moore and Chris Nassar.”
Adebara pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering on Nov. 3, 2020.
According to court documents and testimony, between 2017 and November 2019, Adebara and co-conspirators knowingly concealed the proceeds of a romance scam operation by moving money between and among multiple bank accounts.
The accounts were opened under various aliases using fake passports and other fraudulent identification documents to obscure the source of the funds and the identities of the co-conspirators.
Thereafter, Adebara took further steps to conceal the source of the funds, took a commission for himself, and directed the remainder of the funds back to the online romance scammers in Nigeria, including in the form of vehicles and vehicle parts.
Adebara coordinated with overseas co-conspirators who had assumed false identities on online dating websites and social media platforms to defraud victims.
He opened multiple accounts using fraudulent identities, then provided the account and routing numbers to the overseas co-conspirators.
The overseas co-conspirators told victims that they were U.S. residents working or traveling abroad. As the online relationships continued, the overseas co-conspirators requested increasingly larger sums of money, with the claimed purpose that the funds were needed to complete business projects or for them to return to the United States.
The victims were directed by the overseas co-conspirators to send funds to certain bank accounts, with assurance that the money would purportedly be allocated as needed.
Other Nigerians connected with the case had been handed various prison terms.
John Ogundele, 32, of New York, New York, was sentenced to 33 months’ imprisonment.
Paul Usoro, 25, a Nigerian citizen and lawful permanent resident of the United States residing in Norman, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, six of which were to be served in home confinement.
Joshua Ditep, 26, a Nigerian citizen and lawful permanent resident of the United States residing in Norman, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, five of which were to be served in home confinement.
Tobiloba Kehinde, 29, a Nigerian citizen residing in Norman, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment, four of which were to be served in home confinement.
Chibuzo Obiefuna, 28, of Long Beach, California, and Jamiu Adedeji, 25, a Nigerian citizen residing in Norman, were each sentenced to time served.
Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Acting U.S. Attorney Clinton J. Johnson for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and Special Agent in Charge Melissa Godbold of the FBI-Oklahoma City Field Office made the announcement.
The FBI’s Oklahoma City Field Office conducted the investigation with assistance from the FBI’s San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York Field Offices.
Trial Attorneys Babasijibomi Moore of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Nassar of the Northern District of Oklahoma prosecuted the case.

Workers at the government-owned refineries were paid a total of N69.07bn last year, even as the plants generated zero revenue as they did not process a single barrel of crude oil.
The refineries suffered a combined loss of N108.29bn in 2020, compared to N162.22bn in the previous year, according to data collated from their audited financial statements released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
The plants, which are located in Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri, have a combined installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day but have been in a state of disrepair for many years.
Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company reported a loss after tax of N55.77bn last year; Port Harcourt Refining Company recorded N28.67bn loss; and Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company posted a loss of N23.85bn.
Salaries, wages and other fringe benefits paid to Kaduna refinery workers fell to N26.02bn in 2020 from N34.52bn in the previous year.
Port Harcourt refinery put its aggregate payroll costs (wages, salaries and allowances, redundancy and pension costs) at N22.55bn, up from N18.62bn a year earlier.
Warri refinery said its aggregate costs of employees, comprising direct labour cost and indirect labour and staff welfare cost, dropped to N20.51bn last year from N30.86bn in 2019.

“For the year 2020, the company did not earn any income through shutdown of the plants and the ongoing turnaround maintenance,” KRPC said.

According to the financial statements, the company relies on short-term funding from NNPC to meet its obligations as and when due.

“Although the funding arrangement is short term in nature, the directors, based on historical patterns and continued discussions, with the parent, believe that the funding will be available for at least the next one year,” it said.
PHRC said the N28.674bn loss it incurred last year arose “principally from the inability of the company to refine single drop of crude in the year 2020 and other previous years in quantities and at rates above its break-even points, hence it was unable to earn enough revenue to cover its costs.”
“However, the parent company, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is committed to continuing to support the sustenance of its operations through adequate funding,” it said.
The company noted that the Federal Government had approved the sum of $1.5bn to rehabilitate the aging plants towards productive and profitable use.
“Without doubt, if this plan is fully executed, the reoccurring losses will stop in the year 2023, which is the expected date of completing the phase one of the rehabilitation project,” it added.
According to PHRC, the NNPC provided N107.86bn as of December 2020 to the company under a funding arrangement that is interest-free.
“An amount of N448bn is due from the company to the NNPC as at December 2020 and N361bn in year 2019 under this arrangement,” it said.
