Inter Milan’s perfect start to the defence of their Serie A title ended on Sunday when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Sampdoria but still moved up to second place.
The champions are two points behind leaders Napoli after failing to beat a spirited Samp side in Genoa following two wins in their opening two fixtures of the campaign.
Federico Dimarco and Lautaro Martinez twice put Simone Inzaghi’s side ahead at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris but strikes from Maya Yoshida and Tommaso Augello earned a draw for Roberto D’Aversa’s Sampdoria, who sit 13th with two points.
The draw for Inter means they can be overhauled by city rivals AC Milan and Lazio, who meet at the San Siro later on Sunday, as well as Jose Mourinho’s Roma who host Sassuolo in the day’s late match.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
“It’s a game we should have and could have won,” Inzaghi told DAZN.
“We have to look at what happened, because when a team like ours goes ahead twice we really should win.”
Dimarco gave Inter the lead against the run of play in the 18th minute when the academy product lashed home a powerful free-kick, and Martinez almost doubled the away side’s lead on the half-hour mark when his low shot was pushed away by Emil Audero.
However Samp drew level almost immediately through Yoshida, whose weak shot following a corner clipped Edin Dzeko and rolled past Samir Handanovic.
Martinez did have his second goal of the season just before the break thanks to brilliant play from Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella, whose pinpoint cross was expertly volleyed home by the Argentina forward.
However Augello earned Samp a point with a special volley of his own almost straight after half-time when he met Bartosz Bereszynski’s cross with a powerful left-footed strike that left Handanovic motionless.
Inter had good chances to take the points through Edin Dzeko, Hakan Calhanoglu and Joaquin Correa but it was Samp who came closest to snatching a win with 15 minutes left.
Denmark winger Mikkel Damsgaard managed to sneak behind the Inter defence and let off a low shot which beat Handanovic, but just as it looked to be crossing the line Danilo D’Ambrosio rushed back to clear the ball and save his team’s blushes.
Inter host Real Madrid at the San Siro on Wednesday in their first Champions League group match of the season.

The leadership of Synagogue Church of All Nations says no one is in detention or being victimised over the ongoing audit of the church.
SCOAN made the clarification in a statement on Sunday signed by its Head of Legal Department, Mr James Akhigbe, to disabuse public perception on a misguided information being peddled on the social media.
The News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos State reports that SCOAN is one of the most populated churches in Nigeria with presence in other countries.
The Church lost its Founding Pastor, Prophet Temitope Balogun-Joshua, popularly known as (TB Joshua) on June 17, 2021.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
It reports that the founder’s departure created a leadership vacuum, as the pastor did not anoint anyone as his successor; this has continued to attract public speculation of leadership problem in the Church.
The document said that the attention of the leadership of the Church has been drawn to the news on the social media about the purported arrest and detention of some disciples of the Church by the newly appointed SCOAN Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairperson and Leader of the Church, Mrs Evelyn TB. Joshua.
According to it, SCOAN wants the public and friends of the church to disregard such reports as they are untrue.
“It is a narrative conjured by detractors to discredit the Church.
“We stand in the light and we cannot compromise the ideal and legacy of our mentor and founder, late Senior Prophet TB Joshua on integrity, spiritual worship, unconditional love and humanitarianism.
“The public will recall that on Sept. 9TH 2021, the Board Of Trustees of SCOAN appointed Mrs. Evelyn TB.Joshua widow of the late founder, its Chairperson.
“This followed an order of the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/L/CP/1109/2021 which appointed Mrs Evelyn TB.Joshua as a Trustee.
“The BOT had also appointed Mrs TB Joshua as the new leader of the Church with ratification by not less than 2,000 congregation of the Church at a meeting on Thursday, Sept.9, 2021.”
According to it, consequently and in view of the discovery of cases of financial misappropriation perpetrated in the past few months, reckless individualism and unimaginable acts contrary to the administration of the Sanctuary with the passing of the founder, issues had to be addressed.
“The church leadership took steps to secure certain critical assets of the Church with an authorisation for a comprehensive audit of the activities of the SCOAN since the founder passed away.
“This inventory involved some category of church workers including Disciples and it is being carried out objectively under a regular and absolutely normal environment without any harassment of persons.
“Contrary to the falsehood now being peddled by mischief makers in the media, the audit is not to intimidate anyone as it is to strengthen the organisation,” it said.

Enugu APC crisis: Former Speaker, ex-governor, 39 others expelled

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State has announced the expulsion of forty-one (41) members from the party.
This is following their alleged violation of the provision of the party’s constitution.
Those affected include a former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo, former military governor, Group Capt. Joe Orji, a former Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in the State, Prince Chikwado Chukwunta, Gen. J.O.J Okoloagu, a former Reps member, Chukwuemeka Ujam and several others.
Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the State, Dr. Ben Nwoye announced this when he addressed journalists on Sunday.
<a id="more" name="more"></a>
Nwoye said the members self-expelled themselves from the party by filing a suit in court without first exhausting the internal mechanisms as provided in the APC Constitution.
Article 21 (D), Section V of the APC Constitution provides that, “any member who files an action in court of law against the party or any of its officers on any matters relating to the discharge of the duties of the party without first exhausting the avenues for the redress provided for in this Constitution shall automatically stand expelled from the party on filing such action and no appeal against expulsion as stipulated in this clause shall be entertained until the withdrawal of the action from court by the member.”
It was learnt that the party members dragged Nwoye before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja seeking his removal from office.
In the suit No: FCT/HC/CV/2107/2021, they had sought an ex parte order to stop Nwoye from parading himself as the chairman of the party.
However, the vacation judge, Justice Sylvanus Chinedu Oriji refused to grant the interlocutory injunction. Instead, it ordered that the motion on notice and the entire case be assigned to a regular court at the end of vacation for full determination of the matter.
The Judge held that, “The Defendants/Respondents shall be put on notice of the application for injunction. The orders sought in the ex parte application No. M/5317/2021 are refused.”
Speaking on the development, Nwoye said 41 members who filed the suit had automatically expelled themselves from the party.
According to him, “I arrived at my home and I found a copy of a lawsuit pasted on my door, within that lawsuit is an order sought by the applicants but was denied by the court.
“One Prince Gilbert Chikwado Chukwunta and 40 others filed a claim against me; they sought an ex parte order before an FCT High Court, seeking to remove me as the chairman of the party in Enugu State.
“They sued me and alleged among other things that I was suspended by certain persons, who they attached their signatures, but the learned jurist denied giving the order. He directed them to serve me, but instead of serving me as ordered by the court, they pasted it on my door.
“But what is important is that for those who said that Ben Nwoye has been removed, the removal of Ben Nwoye is now a subject of court, and the court has refused to remove me. I wasn’t there but the learned judge refused to remove me.
“The other point is that the petition which they signed, they forged numerous people’s signatures; one of the people they forged their signature is Mrs. Kate Offor, she never signed a petition seeking to remove me.
“We also had many other people claiming to be members of State exco, and one of such persons are Eugene Odo. Enugu State APC is no longer running on SEC; it is a caretaker committee, so being a former Speaker does not make Eugene Odo a member of APC caretaker committee. Gen. J.O.J. Okoloagu is also not a member of the caretaker committee, so also the former member of the House, Hon. Chukwuemeka Ujam, who they alleged signed, he has never been and is not a member of state exco, we also have one Anayo Ene, we also have Group Capt. Orji, Dr. Mrs. Chukwuani, Hyacinth Nsude, are not members of APC caretaker committee.
“If indeed these individuals did not sign it, those who filed this suit have committed forgery. But if those individuals say that they actually signed it, they have committed fraud because they are not members of APC caretaker committee and that includes Chikwado Chukwunta.
“Recall that Chikwado Chukwunta ran for Deputy Governor of Enugu State in 2019. After he lost, he went away, he never received a waiver before he ran, so, resigned his position. And when the exco was dissolved, Chikwado Chukwunta was never sworn-in as a member of APC caretaker committee.
“These are facts Senator Ken Nnamani and others are hiding to be deceiving the public. Having said that, the status of my chairmanship is now before the court, no one can interfere in my chairmanship, the court has already ruled by denying them the attempt to remove me.
“The next thing is that they have now all expelled themselves from the party; they were deceived into dragging an officer of the party to court.
“All these individuals by the operations of the constitution have expelled themselves from the party because they did not exhaust the internal alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
“They are 41 persons and Chikwado Chukwunta put up an affidavit that he has their consent to file the suit. All of them are now expelled from the party.”
