Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has encouraged fellow governors to show a good level of political tolerance in their states.<br />

Fayose said this as he tweeted about how he directed that the opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress be allowed to use the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti for their governorship primary election holding on Saturday.<br />
<br />
He added, how he wished governors of other states would treat opposition parties fairly.<br />

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday left Abuja for his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State.<br />

The journey was to allow Buhari join other members of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the party’s ward congress taking place across the country on Saturday.<br />

Buhari embarked on the trip a few hours after his return from the United States of America where he met with President Donald Trump.<br />
<br />
The President who left Washington DC on Tuesday arrived in Abuja on Thursday evening after having a stopover in London, United Kingdom.<br />
<br />
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had earlier in the day attributed the “technical stopover” to the fact that the big aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet is currently under repairs.<br />
<br />
The presidential aide explained that the President is currently using a smaller aircraft that has a limit on the distance it can cover, hence the decision to have a stopover in the British capital.<br />
<br />
He explained further that the stopover was meant to refuel and carry out some checks on the aircraft before proceeding on the journey.<br />
<br />
He said there was nothing unusual about the issue, adding that the President was already on his way back to the country.<br />
<br />
The presidential spokesman said, “The big jet is under repairs. It has been taken for major repairs. So the President is using a small place and there is a limit to the distance the small place can cover.<br />
<br />
“So the technical stopover I talked about is that the journey from US to Abuja is broken into two. Technical stopover is that the plane stops at a point, refuel, do some checks and then proceed on the journey.<br />
<br />
“This is very normal. There is nothing unusual about it. In any case, they are already on their way back home.<br />
<br />
“It is a routine thing. The plane can do Abuja-Washington, that’s about 12 hours and the maximum the plane can fly is 12 hours, 40minutes. But you don’t need to push it to the edge.”</div>

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new manager of Scottish Premiership club Rangers.<br />

“Rangers Football Club are delighted to confirm that Steven Gerrard has agreed to become the new manager of the Club,” Rangers announced on their official website on Friday.<br />
<br />
“The former Liverpool and England captain will join the club this summer on a four-year deal.”<br />
<br />
Gerrard, 37, who has been coaching the Liverpool youth team since his retirement from active football in 2016, said: “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.<br />
<br />
“I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.”<br />
<br />
Rangers stated that details of the backroom staff who will join Gerrard at the Club will soon be announced.<br />
<br />
The club’s Chairman Dave King told the website: “We are delighted to confirm today that Steven Gerrard will become the next manager of Rangers.<br />
<br />
“From the very beginning, talks have been extremely positive and we believe that Steven is the right man to drive Rangers forward.<br />
<br />
“He was extremely impressive throughout our negotiations and we are convinced that he has the necessary knowledge and temperament to lead the Club to the success we all desire.<br />

A Kogi State High Court has ordered that the senator representing Kogi West be moved to the National Hospital, Abuja.<br />

The trial judge also adjourned till Monday, 7th, May for continuation of hearing in a written bail application filed by Melaye’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, asking for a variation of the remand order placed on him.<br />
<br />
This followed the refusal to grant bail to Dino Melaye on Thursday when he was hauled before a Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lokoja, on seven counts bordering on criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of fire arms.<br />
<br />
The Chief justice of Kogi State, Justice Nadir Ajanah, who presided over the proceedings on Friday, said that in view of the critical health conditions as espoused by the counsel to the applicant, he should be moved to the National Hospital, Abuja, for proper medical attention.<br />
<br />
Earlier, counsel to the defendant, Mike Ozekhome, had argued that Senator Dino Melaye was a chronic asthmatic patient who gasped for breath on Thursday while being arraigned and had to be given his special inhaler right there in the courtroom and in the presence of the trial magistrate, Sulyman Abdalah.<br />
<br />
In an interview after the order, Ozekhome said that the judge was convinced beyond all reasonable doubts that the Police Clinic facilities in Lokoja could not meet the medical needs of Senator Dino Melaye.<br />
<br />
“He also recognised the fact that as a senator of the Federal Republic, Dino cannot abandon his legislative duties and jump bail.<br />
<br />
“Apart from this, his passport and other travel documents are in the possession of the Police, which makes it impossible to leave the country,” Ozekhome added.</div>

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara  has appealed to traditional rulers in the state to be neutral during the 2019 general elections.<br />

The Chairman of the party in the state,  Iyiola Oyedepo, made the appeal when he visited the Olusin of Isanlu-Isin, Oba Solomon Adogbajale.<br />
<br />
A statement issued on Friday in Ilorin  by the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Dr Rex Olawoye, quoted Oyedepo as saying that  “royal fathers should be neutral in the scheme of things as far as politics is concerned.’’<br />
<br />
Urging the monarchs to “ see all political parties as your babies,”  Oyedepo also said the people at the grassroots could not afford to sit on the fence during the polls.<br />
<br />
He also urged the  Alofa of Ilofa in Oke Ero Local Government Area,  Oba Samuel   Dada, to embrace neutrality during the elections.<br />
<br />
“We are all your children and you should see us and treat us equally without any preferential treatment;  every political party that comes to you deserves your royal blessing,” Oyedepo said.<br />
<br />
The statement said the PDP chairman also visited the Olupo of Ajasse-Ipo, Oba Dhikirullah Woleola, the  Olomu-in-Council as well as  held town hall meetings with residents of  the three local governments.</div>

The High Court of Bayelsa State, in the Sagbama Judicial Division, sitting in Yenagoa, the state capital,  has reinstated the sacked Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe.<br />

It was learnt that the decision of the court has generated fresh tension in the party, casting doubts over the APC’s congresses scheduled to commence in the state on Saturday.<br />
<br />
The National Executive Committee of the APC had expelled Orunimighe; his deputy, Eddy Julius and the state Secretary, Marlin Daniel, from the party, and appointed Mr. Joseph Fafi, as the acting Chairman.<br />
<br />
The expulsion had come amid the lingering crisis between factions loyal to the party leader and former Governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, and that of Orunimighe.<br />
<br />
The APC national headquarters, had in a letter signed by the General Secretary, Mala Buni, said the party’s NEC upheld the August 3, 2017 recommendation of the National Working Committee ‎for Orunimighe and the others to be suspended and expelled over alleged anti-party activities.<br />
<br />
The expulsion letter dated August 4, 2017, with reference number APC/NDQ/552/31/017/002, had also ordered the expelled Orunimighe to hand over the party property in his possession to the party’s Vice-Chairman of the State Central Senatorial District.<br />
<br />
But angered by the action of the party, Orunimighe sued the APC, the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, challenging his removal.<br />
<br />
The claimant on April 26, 2018,  filed an ex parte motion, praying the court to issue an order directing the defendants to recognise and deal with him as the chairman of APC pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.<br />
<br />
Orunimighe also sought an order directing the defendants to accord him all the rights and privileges as the APC chairman as well as an order directing that nobody apart from him should exercise and perform the functions of the APC chairman in the state.</div>

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived home on Thursday night from his trip to the United States.<br />

Among the photographs capturing the tempered homecoming reception, were many showing the car that took the president home in Aso Villa.<br />

A closer look shows that the black Mercedes Benz Maybach is old, the colour is devoid of any sheen and there are scratches at the back bumper. Even the tyres appear to have seen better days.<br />

NAN.ng learnt President Buhari has refused to change the fleet he inherited from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, since 2015.<br />
<br />
In 2016, the president, who had cut his salary by 50 per cent,  struck out a move to spend N400 million on new cars for him.  The money was to be used to buy five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars.<br />
<br />
NAN learnt the President believes the cars passed on to him, can still last another 10 years, thus helping the nation conserve scarce funds.<br />
<br />
No wonder, the Buhari government, as  Vice President Osinbajo has said repeatedly, is doing much more with the nation’s financial resources, despite the declining income.<br />
<br />
This is in sharp contrast with the profligate Jonathan years when oil at a stage was selling at $140 a barrel and the nation became poorer for it.</div>
