The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said that President Buhari can no longer play the pro-poor gimmick which his followers have always presented to Nigerians and that the purchase of the N45 million All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Nomination form for President Muhammadu Buhari was a worn-out stunt, smacking of fraud and shame.<br />

The party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, berated the ruling party for the outrageous cost of its nomination forms even as it accused it of abandoning Nigerians to languish in penury just as it called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to note that the purchase of the N45 million form by the group directly violates section 91 (9) of the Electoral Act which provides that “no individual or other entity shall donate more than One million naira (#1,000,000) to any candidate.”<br />

“Our people are daily confronted by the flaunting of affluence and material wealth by the President and those around him, while betraying and abandoning millions of poor Nigerians who, unfortunately, put their trust in him in 2015.<br />
<br />
“Nigerians are aware that the very expensive personal effects, including posh jewelries daily paraded by his close relatives betrayed the gimmick of using an unregistered group, pieced together to execute another failed pro-poor stunt to sway Nigerians.<br />
<br />
But Keyamo in a series of tweets on Friday said those criticizing the purchase of nomination form for President Buhari at N45 million are misquoting the law.<br />
<br />
He also said that the APC government has gotten everything right and called on Nigerians to the sincerity, personal integrity of Mr Buhari ‘on an overall scale against those of his opponents in 2019 and see where the scale tilts.”<br />

“Since President Buhari has not publicly disowned the purchase of the form by the group, the PDP charges INEC to, within the next 24 hours, hold him culpable and make him to face the appropriate sanctions for the violation of electoral laws,” the statement read<br />

“Some mischievous persons are reading S. 91(9) of the Electoral Act upside down. The section limits CASH (not material) donations in respect of CANDIDATES to N1m. PMB is not a CANDIDATE. He’s an aspiring ASPIRANT. He becomes an ASPIRANT only when he submits his Forms to his Party,”<br />

“Same people that said nothing last week when a group ‘donated’ nomination FORMS to a ‘crying’ opposition aspirant are now descending on PMB & misquoting the law. It’s more honorable to openly support a candidate of your choice than hiding behind one finger & looking ridiculous.<br />

“The situation we have in Nig is that the REAL oppressors of the masses are struggling to pose as their saviours whilst they seek to paint the REAL saviours as the oppressors. They’re using fake news, propaganda, etc, to paint this picture. All they want is to sneak back to power.<br />

“Some of us are prepared to be misunderstood, abused & maligned by a few for d position we have taken today about the future of our country because we see behind the scenes and WE KNOW THE TRUTH. It is better to be vindicated by posterity than to be applauded wrongly at the moment<br />

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, adjourned until September 10, the trial of former President Jonathan’s aide, Waripamo-Owen Dudafar, who is facing a charge of N1.7 billion fraud.<br />

Dudafar, who was charged alongside former manager of Heritage Bank, Joseph Iweujo, had earlier pleaded not guilty to the 23-count of fraud preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.<br />
<br />
They were alleged to have conspired to conceal N1.7 billion, proceeds they knew were from a criminal activity.<br />
<br />
At the resumed trial, EFCC Prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, continued the cross-examination of the first accused who was also first witness in his own defence.<br />
<br />
Dudafar was reminded that he was still on oath and Oyedepo began cross-examinating him, asking: “you said in your statement, exhibit ‘G,’ that you never had a contract with Bayelsa State Government?<br />
<br />
“You signed all the pages of your statement, am I correct?”<br />
<br />
The witness answered, “I never had a direct contract with them. I did sign, but some of the words were not mine. They were dictated to me and I was asked to sign.”<br />
<br />
Oyedepo later proceeded with the cross-examination, eliciting answers from the witness.<br />
<br />
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Dudafar was alleged to have siphoned the amount through different accounts in Heritage bank in the name of some companies.<br />
<br />
EFCC is accusing them of converting N1.7 billion, themselves through Sea Gate Property Development and Investment Ltd., Avalon Global Property Development Ltd., and Ebiwise Resources.<br />
<br />
The anti-graft agency claimed that the defendants received the money sometimes in 2016 through Pluto Property and Investment Ltd., Rotato Interlink Services Ltd., De Jakes Fast Food Restaurant Ltd., and Ibejige Services Ltd.<br />
<br />
The offences contravene Sections 17 (a) and 18 (c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004 and Sections 27 (3) of the EFCC Act, 2004.</div>

A former governor of Kaduna state and Presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi has urged the party to realize that it is up against the antics of “Drowning men,” as the preparations for the 2019 elections intensify.<br />

Makarfi who was at the party secretariat Friday to submit his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to seek the ticket of the PDP to contest the 2019 Presidential election was reacting to Thursday fracas involving supporters of the PDP and the ruling party.<br />
<br />
The Presidential hopeful tasked party delegates to prioritise experience and competence for the job in determining who picks the ticket, stressing that as governor of Kaduna state, he tackled the security challenges and restored normalcy across all parts of the state. He promised to replicate the feat if given the mandate to preside over the affairs of the nation as President.<br />
<br />
“If you give a drowning man a sword, he will hold on to it. We are dealing with drowning men and we should understand and see them as such. We must never loss focus to wrest power from the APC. They may use whatever they want to use, but let use our brains.<br />
<br />
“I will begin by sympathizing with PDP men and women on the attack on democracy yesterday, when we were assaulted by the APC thugs. This has never happened before, for a party to leave its domain to another party’s headquarters and do what they did.<br />
<br />
“But no matter how they try, they will not succeed. Intimidation will not work because we know the APC is left with no option other than intimidation. When you are losing, whatever you see, you grab,” he said.<br />
<br />
The former chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the PDP also took a swipe at the ruling party, saying “Up till now, they are still quarrelling over what type of primary to hold.”<br />
<br />
That said, Makarfi moved on to clarify the mileage of his aspiration and what sets him apart from the rest of other aspirants.<br />
<br />
“It is important for me to say that I am qualified, like every other aspirant. There is none of us that has indicated interest that is not qualified. Though all fingers are useful, they are equally not equal. There is no finger that is not useful, but there is no finger that is equal to another.<br />
<br />
“I want to believe that when the needful is done, party men and women will decide wisely. And whatever the delegates decide, as a loyal party man, I will accept the result. I will work for the interest of the party, to make sure that we return to power,” he added<br />
<br />
Makarfi further reiterated his commitment to restructuring just as he emphasized the need to secure the nation and her citizens.<br />
<br />
“We believe in restructuring in the interest of all. Nigeria needs to be secured as there is too much bloodletting in the country today. We must restore sanity, and stop these killings,” he noted, adding that “It is not possible for these killings to be going on, without one form of collusion or the other.”<br />
<br />
Why Nigerians should vote for me<br />
<br />
“If I happened to be nominated and elected, as I have history to have restored peace in Kaduna, that will also be replicated across the length and breadth of Nigeria. This is not theory, but practical because we have done it before.<br />
<br />
“I have spoken on the policy that our children must never leave school because of financial difficulties. We will introduce students’ soft loan, where students facing financial difficulties can borrow and they will only pay when they are permanently and gainfully employed.<br />
<br />
“This will force the government to create job opportunities for our teeming youths so they can get the money refunded.<br />
<br />
“I have also spoken on power generation. We are running a unitary system, where whatever is generated is domiciled in one place and then redistributed. When you are generating, you lose power, when you are distributing, you lose power, anything that happen at any point, the whole country goes into darkness but this must stop.<br />
<br />
“We will explore God-given natural resources to satisfy any area of Nigeria with uninterrupted power. We must do so and we will do so under my leadership, so that within a short period of time , the entire country can have power for 24 hours.”<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, former National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Senator Abdul Ningi, yesterday submitted his nomination forms to contest the governorship election in Bauchi State.<br />
<br />
Ningi who spent a total of 16 years at the National Assembly promised to bring smiles to the faces of his people just as he berated the APC government in the state for performing “below expectation.”<br />
<br />
“The state (Bauchi) has derailed especially in the last three and half years. Bauchi has become like a cursed state and if things continue to be the way they are, in the next couple of years, I don’t know how we are going to describe Bauchi,” he said.<br />
<br />
He described his aspiration as “My obligation and resolve to ensure that Bauchi story changes. I want to add value to the state and make sure it becomes one of the front line states in terms of development.”</div>

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has declared that he would prefer to lose next February governorship election than win it through violence.<br />

He said this as he urged politicians in the state to eschew violence as the 2019 general elections approach.<br />
<br />
Ortom said this on Thursday at St Vincent De Paul Quasi Parish, Aliade, near the capital of Makurdi,  during a funeral mass for late Emmanuel Ayargwer, a retired magistrate.<br />
<br />
Ortom said violence, that leads to the spilling of blood in order to hold a political office isn’t necessary because power belongs to God,  who gives it to whomever He wills.<br />
<br />
He went on to reveal that the people of the state have resolved to implement the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.<br />
<br />
Ortom stressed that Benue people are not against any group but are against the destruction of their crops by herders, hence the need for ranching.<br />
<br />
Ortom asked for prayers as the 2019 elections approached.<br />
<br />
He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.<br />

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured that there is enough fuel in the country and that there is no need for panic buying of petroleum products by motorists and the public.<br />

The corporation disclosed this in a statement issued by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, It’s spokesman, in Abuja, on Friday.<br />
<br />
This, followed reports of an ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) over a purported intervention by an arm of the security agencies in what the union viewed as purely labour matters involving a company and its workers in Delta State.<br />
<br />
He added that the corporation’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru and his Management team, were engaging the parties involved, saying the parties are close to resolving the issues.<br />
<br />
Ughamadu in the statement advised motorists and other consumers of petroleum products not to engage in panic buying as the NNPC Management was close to reaching an amicable resolution of the challenge.<br />
<br />
NNPC assured that the corporation had adequate storage of petroleum products across the country and advised that they should not entertain any fear of petroleum shortages.<br />
