We believe as a political party in a government of national unity and there must be stability before you can do anything – implement your economic programme, implement your healthcare programme.<br /> <br /> <a id="more" name="more"></a><br /> <br /> “Right from the beginning, I have been a member of the PDP and I know we have always believe in a government of national unity.<br /> <br /> “It takes a long time for a country as diverse as Nigeria to be united and stable even before we start talking about which ethnic group we come from or which religion we practise.<br /> <br /> “I want to assure you that as long as we are having a government of national unity, there will not be a cabal. My government will be a government of the people.”<br /> <br /> Atilku narrated his journey into politics, stressing that were it not for the efforts of democracy advocates, President Muhammadu Buhari would not be seeking participation in the polity today.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> He said, “In the 1980s when some of us joined politics, the reason was to drive the military out of power and restore democracy.<br /> <br /> “That was what the late General Yar ‘Adua told me. He said, “come and join me. I was in my late 30s and in the public service. I abandoned it and followed him. That was the beginning of my political career.<br /> <br /> “If we did not drive the military, he won’t be here today talking about political parties and wanting to be President.”<br /> <br /> In his contribution at the event, President of the Senate who is also the Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Bukola Saraki, said Buhari had affected the country negatively since he assumed the leadership of the country in 2015.<br /> <br /> He said that it was unfortunate that hunger “has taken over the land since the President came into power.”<br /> <br /> He said, “We should all work hard together to ensure victory for Atiku who understands the issues. The message everywhere we go is that this country must move forward and we have agreed that the existing President must give way because he is not leading us in the right direction.<br /> <br /> “We have met with Nigerians all over the country, the old, the not-too-old and the message is that the President cannot lead us the right way.<br /> <br /> “We must be part of the process to usher in a new direction. The most important thing is that we want a change, a new direction. We want a man that understand the issues.<br /> <br /> “We have been to three zones and there is a common message and that message is one of insecurity and hunger. Everywhere in this country, hunger and poverty are the issues.<br /> <br /> “So the challenge before us is how to bring back prosperity to this country. Unfortunately, our President today cannot do it. He cannot do it because he does not have the ability to do so.<br /> <br /> “Government alone cannot bring prosperity to this country because close to 80 per cent of the revenue of government are going into personnel and servicing of debts. The remaining percentage cannot bring about development.<br /> <br /> “To bring development to this country today, you need an environment that encourages people to bring in investment. Nigerians are even afraid to bring their monies out and so they need somebody that they have confidence will bring about the right environment for their business.<br /> <br /> “At the moment, the verdict is that this government and this President do not give that confidence and without that investment, we are going nowhere.”<br /> <br /> A former governor of Osun State, who is also a prominent leaders in CUPP, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said more political parties had joined the coalition.<br /> <br /> “We are moving steadily. More political parties, I think 15 or so, have just joined the coalition and they are all committed to the struggle, “he added.<br /> <br /> Leaders of some political parties including PPA, ADC, KOWA and DPP were present at the event.

There were also reports that 19 state lawmakers had defected to AA.<br /> <br /> Also in Ogun State, the preferred candidate of Amosun, Abiodun Akinlade, has joined the Allied Peoples Movement.<br /> <br /> Issa-Onilu said, “Nobody will be treated like a sacred cow for anti-party. We are monitoring events. We are aware of certain efforts that are unhelpful to the cause of the APC especially in Imo and Ogun states.”<br /> <br /> He said the party issued a communique on Thursday to send signals to members that anti-party activities under any guise would not be condoned.<br /> <br /> “We needed to send signals out to members to know the party considers them as anti-party to be a member of the APC and come out public or work surreptitiously for a candidate in another party.<br /> <br /> “The party constitution has made provision on how to address such issue in order to protect itself from the influence of members that are willing to compromise the chances of the party.”<br /> <br /> Asked if the party planned to sanction erring members, Issa-Onilu said it was still early to say as the Peace and Reconciliation Committee would be allowed to do their job.<br /> <br /> He said, “But it is still early in the day to say we are going to sanction such persons bearing in mind that a Peace and Reconciliation Committee made up of eminent Nigerians was raised for each of the geopolitical zones about two weeks ago.<br /> <br /> “We are hopeful that at the end of the exercise most of these statements that are being made and actions considered inimical to the party would have been taken care of by their efforts.<br /> <br /> “If after all that we still see any member taking any action that may compromise the party and undermine our interests, the party will review such and respond accordingly.”<br /> <br /> Issa-Onilu said the party would instill discipline and promote party supremacy without fear or favour.<br /> <br /> He said, “Part of the change APC has brought is equality and fairness. All members are equal and nobody will be treated like a sacred cow. You have seen that demonstrated in the primaries where the party stood its ground despite that some influential members of the party were on the wrong side of the party’s guidelines.<br /> <br /> “The essence of all that is to consciously build a party that delivers on what is decent. A party that lives by its creed of progressive ideology, that operates by the rule of law, that provides an environment where everybody is equal before the law. The issue of social justice is paramount to the society. The party at every time will always do the right thing no matter who is involved.”

Scores of road users took to their heels to avoid being caught in possible conflagration as the huge flakes of smoke was seen as far as the Mafoloku axis of the Airport Road and other parts of the metropolis.<br /> <br /> But as at the time of writing this report , the cause of the fire was still unknown.<br /> <br /> <a id="more" name="more"></a><br /> <br /> An eye witness said the fire started about 2.10pm.<br /> <br /> He added that already fire fighters from both the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Lagos State Fire Service battled to put the fire under control.<br /> <br /> The eye witness said that the firemen have been able to prevent the fire from affecting other building close to the razed Forte Oil Petrol Station<br /> <br /> As at 2.30 pm thick smoke was still coming out from the burnt petrol station and it also enveloped the area where the filling station is located<br /> <br /> The development has further caused gridlock on the ever-busy Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos Access Road.<br /> <br /> As at 2.45 pm the gridlock has reached the Concord Bus Stop area, a situation that further cause panic among commuters and motorists using the Lagos Airport Access Road.<br /> <br /> Traffic along the Airport became unbearable.<br /> <br /> Sources hinted that the fire incident may have forced many passengers to miss their flight on account of inability to access the General Aviation Terminal ( GAT), in the domestic wing of the Lagos Airport.

Ejike Mbaka, has lambasted his critics, insisting that God deserves money.</b><br /> <br /> Mbaka said this while responding to criticisms over a video that went viral wherein he was seen trying to compel the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi, during the annual harvest and bazaar celebration of the church to disclose how much he would donate to his church project.<br /> <br /> The cleric had told a reluctant Obi that God hates stinginess and if he continues to act in such a manner, he and the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would lose woefully come election day.<br /> <br /> In a new video which was posted on Youtube by Dave Partner and has been viewed over 11,000 times, Mbaka, who spoke in English and Igbo intermittently, said God deserves money and there was nothing wrong with him asking for donations.<br /> <br /> <a id="more" name="more"></a><br /> <br /> The cleric explained that bazaar day is strictly for raising of funds and that is the only time his church asks for donations.<br /> <br /> Mbaka said, “There are some people who are ingrates. These are people from the kingdom of succubus and Incubus. I want to tell you that all these things are caused by jealousy and envy. They are not fighting Mbaka for anything wrong.<br /> <br /> “Everyone who came was blessed but they turned it against me, saying I am after money. God deserves money. If you don’t want to bring your own in your stinginess, hold it. I will give God all that I have and even if anybody wants to join them, you’re free to join them.<br /> <br /> “Where God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are, there Fr. Mbaka will be. I will build this place for the church. Whoever felt insulted, I apologise. But I didn’t come to your house. It was you who came for the bazaar.”<br /> <br /> The cleric said all those fighting him were fighting God. He subsequently asked God to punish his detractors and those “firing arrows at him”.<br /> <br /> Although he did not mention Obi’s name, Mbaka said any politician who had donated money to his ministry was free to send his or her bank account number and he would gladly return the donation.<br /> <br /> He added, “As for me, I am in high spirits. I want to assure you, those who are thinking that it is their money we will use to build this ministry, before the end of tomorrow, I will send all their monies into their accounts.”<br /> <br /> On why he demanded money from Obi publicly, the cleric said he wanted the process of donation to be open and transparent so that no one would accuse him of diverting funds.<br /> <br /> Mbaka said every person who made a donation on the day the bazaar held did so publicly.<br /> <br /> The cleric added, “We do it outside, publicly because if I am silent, rumours will begin to spread that someone gave me $10m and why did Mbaka keep quiet? They will abuse me even if I am silent because anytime they want to attack this ministry, they will start somewhere.<br /> <br /> “If I am silent they will attack, if I talk, they will attack it. And don’t forget that the liturgy was not tampered with. I finished the mass and even removed my priestly attire. No one can fault me on that.”<br /> <br /> The cleric insisted that he was not partisan, adding that every person, regardless of political leaning, was free to come to him for blessings.
