Lagos is still in the grips of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic as it posted on Wednesday, the highest number of cases out of 12 states, including the FCT Abuja.
According to the latest data released by the NCDC, Lagos recorded 82 cases, more than half of the 147 cases reported nationally.

The high figure was the third in a row, as Nigeria appears to be facing an uptick in the virus cases.
Lagos recorded 51 cases on Tuesday, out of 111 and 77 on Monday out of 119.
In the latest data, the FCT came second with 20 cases.
According to NCDC report on its website:”On the 28th of October 2020, 147 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 62371 cases have been confirmed, 58095 cases have been discharged and 1139 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory”.
In an earlier tweet, the NCDC disclosed that Lagos discharged 116 COVID-19 patients.
“Our discharges today include 116 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with new case management guidelines”, the agency said.
The agency said the state now has 662 people still on admission, out of a caseload of 21,017.

The United Nations and the World Bank pleaded in a new report Wednesday for schools to remain open despite Covid-19 risks, highlighting the damage the pandemic has inflicted on children’s education, especially in poor nations.
Children in impoverished countries have been deprived of close to four months of schooling since the pandemic began early this year, while pupils in rich nations benefiting from remote learning have lost six weeks, the report said.
“Prioritising reopening schools and providing much-needed catch-up classes are critical,” said Robert Jenkins, education chief at the UN children’s fund UNICEF.
“We don’t need to look far to see the devastation the pandemic has caused to children’s learning across the world,” he added in a statement.

The devastation has been magnified in low- and middle-income nations, where there has been a lack of access to distance learning, higher chances of delays for school reopenings and fewer resources to mitigate health risks.
UN cultural agency UNESCO and the World Bank also said it is essential for countries to invest immediately in school systems to reduce the widening gap between the education provided in poor and rich countries because of the pandemic.
The report from UNICEF, UNESCO and the World Bank was based on information collected from nearly 150 nations between June and October.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has signed an executive order to reinforce the ban on Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra and its activities in the State.
The governor maintained that while Rivers remains the home to all tribes and ethnic nationalities, the state government is opposed to the presence and activities of the legally proscribed and anarchic IPOB and whatever it stands for in Rivers State.
Governor Wike, in a state broadcast on Wednesday night, said while the Government acknowledges and appreciate the enormous contributions from non-indigenes to the political, social, and economic development of the State, it will neither accept nor allow any individual or group from within and outside to violate the peace, endanger lives and property under any guise in the State.
“And so, let it be understood that we have nothing against all or any specific tribe and will continue to live in peace with people of all other tribal extractions residing or doing business in Rivers State.

“But we have everything against the presence and activities of the legally proscribed and anarchic Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and whatever that group stands for in Rivers State.
“This is clearly a terrorist group whose existence, creed, mission and activities are strongly denounced even by the Government and peoples of South-Eastern States of the country. I have therefore signed the executive order to reinforce the total ban on IPOB and its activities in Rivers State or any part thereof and nothing will stop us from enforcing this ban in its entirety,” he said.
Wike said he has also directed security agencies and the Chairmen of Local Government Areas to fish out and resolutely deal with any member of IPOB found in any community in terms with the executive order and other legal instruments.
With restoration of normalcy in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the Governor announced the lifting of existing curfew on Mile 1, Mile 2, Iloabuchi, Emenike and Ikokwu areas of Port Harcourt as well as Rumukurushi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.
“However, the curfew in Oyigbo Local Government Area shall remain in force until further notice while the entire Ikokwu motor spare market shall remain closed, also, until further notice,” he said.

Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has cried out over the alleged looting of police guns by hoodlums during the End SARS protests.
Describing it as a dangerous angle to the attacks suffered by the police during the nationwide rampage by angry youths, the group said it fears that those weapons have fallen into the hands of unpatriotic elements and criminals.
The Islamic rights group said it was likely that these unpatriotic elements may start using these weapons when they launch attacks on society, while calling on citizens to give the security agencies useful information about the whereabouts of those weapons.
MURIC called on Nigerian Muslims to pray for the police and members of their families.

The organisation’s plea was contained in a statement signed by its Director and founder, Prof Ishaq Akintola, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
“Several police stations are now in ruins particularly in Lagos and other parts of the South West, South East and South-South as a result of attacks by hoodlums who infiltrated the #EndSARS protests.
“In addition, a number of policemen were killed while arms and ammunition were carted away from the burning stations,” the group said.
MURIC called the attention of Nigerians to this ugly event, describing it as a disservice not only to our country but also to the people themselves.
MURIC said that Nigerians, by their actions in the last two weeks, have severely wounded the psyche of its police and it will take a long time before any healing can take place.
“In view of the trauma which men of the Nigerian police went through in the past two weeks, MURIC calls on Muslims to pray in all mosques for the police and members of their families this Friday 30th October 2020.
“We urge Christians to do the same in their churches on Sunday, 1st November, 2020. Let the prayers be the beginning of national healing.
“Another dangerous angle is the issue of stolen police guns. We fear that those weapons have fallen into the hands of unpatriotic elements and criminals who are likely to start using them when they launch attacks on society. We urge Nigerians to give the security agencies useful information about the whereabouts of those weapons.”
