The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has urged Muslim faithful in the country to take time out to pray for the nation's leaders as they celebrate the Eid-el-kabir.

The party, in a goodwill message by its spokesperson, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, on Thursday noted that without the prayers and support of the citizens, those at the helm of affairs would not be able to do much.

It urged all citizens to rally round the Federal Government, especially in its anti-graft war, saying the government could not succeed without the backing of the citizens.

It also called for peace and unity, stressing that the nation could only progress and record development where there is peace and harmony.

It urged the Muslims in the country to take advantage of the Sallah celebration to "seek the face and benevolence of Allah" not only for peace and unity but also for good governance.

The statement read in part, "The country can only move forward where there is harmony. Eid-el-Kabir is a time to show love and imbibe the spirit of giving sacrificially. But beyond this season, we must continue to extend love to one another and always pray for our leaders.

"In the spirit of the season, our leaders deserve every support, especially in the fight against corruption and insecurity. Without the support and cooperation of the people, it will be difficult for those in government alone to win the battles.

"Once we are able to conquer these cankerworms, Nigeria will get on the map of progressive nations and its dignity will be restored."
