The Pan-Northern socio-political organization, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF yesterday thump-up for the Nigeria military in its war against Boko Haram Islamic Terrorsits, saying it was satisfied with its anti-terror campaign in the North East of Nigeria.
Rising from its National Working Committee ‘s monthly meeting in Kaduna on Tuesday, the ACF in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim on Wednesday said: “The meeting noted with satisfaction the effort of the military and other security agencies in their determination to end the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast particularly the persistent onslaught on the enclaves of the terrorists.
“With more troops, adequate equipment and personal supervision of Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen TY Buratai, ACF urges the military to not only subdue the insurgents but station the soldiers in the areas captured and sustain a permanent surveillance that will reassure the people of their safety.”
The ACF was however saddened by the recent suicide bomb attacks on innocent Muslim faithful during their evening and morning prayers in Maiduguri and Yola in Borno and Adamawa states respectively, in which no fewer that 75 people were killed.
“ACF urges the Borno state government to sustain its laudable security advocacy and also provide necessary equipment, logistics and training to enable the community in conjunction with the security agencies protect themselves against the frequent attack by suicide bombers.
“ACF also calls upon other states to emulate this type of stakeholders meeting involving religious and traditional leaders in order to enhance and sustain community policing.
“The meeting also commends the prompt visit of the Federal Government delegation led by the Secretary to the Federal Government Mr. Babachir David Lawal to Yola and Maiduguri to commiserate with the victims and the state governments over this barbaric and unwarranted attacks on innocent worshipers by the suicide bombers.
“ACF considers the visit not only reassuring to the victims and the states government but also shows the Federal Government’s concern to the welfare and security of the citizenry.”
The umbrella body of the north noted that it welcomed the flag-off of the intervention program of the Federal Government through its Presidential Initiative for the Northeast (PINE), the Victim Support Fund (VSF) and the Save Schools Initiative (SSI) and appealed for prudence and diligence on the part of the implementers of the marshal plan.
Meanwhile, the ACF has hailed the Security Joint Task Force formed by the state governments of Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa and Niger to tackle the issue of cattle rustlers and other crimes in the zone.
The group was delighted that move has started to yield results with the recovery of many stolen cattle and the arrest of suspected cattle rustlers.
It said, “ACF is happy with this development as it had consistently advocated for this joint task force to tackle the menace of these cattle thieves who not only steal but in most cases kill the herders.
“ACF appeals to the concerned states to sustain the operation of the Security Joint Task Force by regular funding.”
