Notorious Lagos robber, Sunday Terror dies in gun battle with police
Policemen attached to Denton Police Division, yesterday, engaged four suspected members of a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorising residents of Ebute-Meta in a gun battle with the leader of the gang, identified as Sunday Terror, arrested.
However, Terror died two hours later, owing to bullet injuries he sustained during the shootout.
His arrest threw the entire Ebute-Meta area into excitement, as residents besieged Denton Police Station demanding that the suspect be released to them so they can mete out jungle justice on him.
Terror and members of his gang were reportedly members of the Eiye confraternity. Before he breathed his last, Terror reportedly confessed to be responsible for the killing of four members of a rival cult last December at Evans Square, Ebute-Meta.
He also reportedly confessed to have been hired on several occasions by some politicians to kill their rivals during elections.
The latest of his escapades was the fight between members of his cult group and those of Aye, last week in Idumota area of the state, where two persons were reportedly killed.
It was gathered that he also confessed that members of his gang killed some policemen during an operation and made away with their AK-47 rifles.
Some of the residents told newmen that Terror and members of his gang were responsible for several robbery incidents in the area.
, during which single and married women were raped.
One of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “He would walk into the motor park and order the Chairman to give him money. At times he would demand for N20,000 or N50,000, threatening to kill the chairman if he did not meet his demand.
“The name Terror sends fear down the spine of any right-thinking resident. He was a hired killer, a robber and a cultist. Members of the gang boasted that nobody could do anything to them; not even the Police.
“They would walk into any shop, demand money from the owner and if they were not given, they would shoot the person or storm the place at night, empting the shop. I came to ascertain if news of his arrest is true but was told he is dead.”
Another resident, who simply gave his name as Mabu, said: “Members of Terror’s gang raided our apartment and raped two women because they did not find money in their houses. That was not the first time they would rape women during operations.”
Inundated by petitions from residents, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, reportedly directed the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Denton Division, Mr. Olarewaju Quadri, to check the gang’s excesses.
Consequently, following a tip-off, policemen from the division led by the DPO stormed Ondo Street at about 11a.m., yesterday, where Terror and three other members of his gang were. The hoodlums were said to have opened fire on sighting the policemen.
Eyewitnesses revealed that when it became apparent that the hoodlums were being overpowered, Terror ordered his members to escape.
They said: “A bullet hit Terror on the thigh, but he kept running while his colleagues were firing at the policemen. A second one fired by one of his members mistakenly hit Terror in the ribs, causing him to run into a building to hide. But the police traced him with the blood spill.”
