Okada rider killed by car door
A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court for allegedly killing a motorcycle rider on the road with his car door in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The suspect, Musibau Ajani Ishola, allegedly drove his car in a dangerous manner without regard to other road users by opening his car door that caused the death of the victim, Bashir Umar.
It wasgathered that the door tore the victim almost into two due to high speed with which the victim ran into the door.
The incident happened in front of the LUTH gate along Idi Araba road in Mushin area of Lagos.
Ishola is now facing a murder charge before the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Adedayo.
It was gathered that Ishola who works with Pentiac Vibe, was going to his place of work in the morning in his car with registration number LND 285 BR when the tragedy occurred.
He had got to LUTH, parked and opened the car door to come out when the late Umar rammed into the door at high speed and he was almost torn into two.
He was rushed to the LUTH emergency unit where he was confirmed dead.
The matter was reported at Alakara Police Division and Ishola was charged to court with murder under the Criminal Code.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Adedayo granted Ishola bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court also directed the prosecutor, Inspector Abayomi Abass to send the file to DPP for advice.
Ishola was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 13 February, 2016 when the DPP’s advice is expected to be ready.
