NYSC advises prospective corps members on vaccination against meningitis
The National Youth Service Corps has advised intending corps members mobilised for service to be vaccinated against meningitis before reporting to the orientation programme which starts next Tuesday.
The Coordinator of the NYSC in Osun State, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday
He said this ahead of the commencement of orientation course on May 23.
He said this became necessary because of the outbreak of meningitis in the country, saying this would help to prevent intending corps members from contracting the virus.
Attah also asked corps members to come to the camp with medical reports in order to know their medical status.
He stated that apart from the NYSC doctors, who would be at various camps, qualified and competent doctors had been invited from hospitals to complement their services.
The coordinator said, “We know that the camping will coincide with the Ramadan period and we have put necessary welfare package together to ensure that the Muslims brothers and sisters are very comfortable during this period. In the same vein, our officers have been well briefed on how to relate with the corps member.
“We are expecting 2300 corps members in Osun State and as they come in I want to advise them on the medical challenges we are having in the country such as Lassa fever, meningitis and the threat of Ebola that is resurfacing once again.
“So I urged all prospective corps member to ensure themselves vaccinated against meningitis before coming to camp. we are ready to take care of them but this is just a preventive measures and also they are strongly advice to report to camp their medical status.”
He also warned them against vices, saying the NYSC had zero tolerance for drugs and cultism and anybody caught would be treated according to the by-laws of the scheme.
