The Biafra Shadow Government, BSG, has called on the United Nations, UN, to hold the Northern youths responsible for any break down of law and order in Nigeria, come October 1.
BSG made the call in a petition to the world body ahead of the October 1 quit notice by a coalition of Northern youths, asking Igbos to vacate their region.
In the petitioned titled: “Provocative and malicious unchecked utterances and publications by Arewa youths and their sponsors” and signed by one Chile Nwoko, the body said its letter was a response to the “misguided one-cum-publication by Arewa youths to the UN.”
The body stated that Igbos are indigenous in over 12 states in Nigeria, adding that no group, including the Indigenous People’s of Biafra, IPOB, and the Government of Biafra, was waging war within the country.
Stressing that Biafra has never been an only Igbo affair either in 1966 or even now as alleged by the Arewa youths, the body, however, noted that self-defence is the first law of nature.
Nwoko said: “We wish to remind the Arewa youths that the pogrom of 1966 was not only the Igbo but any southerner not from Yoruba”, adding that “it is on record that in Arewa killing fields, they included the Idoma and Igala whom they claimed to be Arewa, as part of the Igbo.
“Biafrans want a referendum to decide their stay in Nigeria but the Arewa should be informed that it is not by their terms, but as Biafrans so wish and desire, as directed and supervised by the UN.”
The body appealed to the UN and the international community to hold the Arewa responsible for any, “escalation of the present situation,” adding that, “Biafrans have maintained a non-violent approach in their self-determination quest.”
