Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, is set to scout the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), in his search for a national team goalkeeper.
According to The Guardian, Rohr is keen to find a reliable shot-stopper, after Daniel Akpeyi’s performance in the 2-0 loss to South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last month.
With Carl Ikeme diagnosed with leukaemia, the German is now desperate to find a new keeper.
“We read that Rohr is thinking of inviting South Africa-based former U-23 goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel, to the team, but all I can say is that the issue is more serious than that,” an NFF source said.
“We must beat Cameroon in Uyo and to do that we need the best players we can get hence the decision to look for the best goalkeepers around to come and prove what they can do.
“Apart from goalkeepers, the manager has been in touch with the players needed for the matches against Cameroon and everybody is agreed that we must treat the game with the seriousness it deserves.”
