Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Friday declared that he has no anointed candidate for the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election in the state.
Aregbesola, who was on sensitisation tour to Iwo, in the Osun West Senatorial District, was reacting to profound and consistent agitation by the people of the town to produce the next governor.
Aregbesola reiterated his stance to superintend a credible process and ensure internal democracy in the conduct of the party’s primary to produce the party’s flagbearer for the purpose of uniting the party the more.
“Every party member is free to support any aspirant of choice, but after the party’s candidate is picked through a credible primary, every member of the party must support that candidate to the extent that the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state would be convincingly won by the All Progressives Congress”, he said.
The Chairman of the party, Prince Adegboyega Famodun in his address called on the members to massively mobilise the electorate.
Meanwhile, the Asiwaju of Iwoland, Barr Gbadegesin Adedeji said the zone had been largely marginalised in the political arithmetic that produced governors since the state was created.
“The entire people of Iwo constituency are solidly behind Mr governor and I am using this opportunity to tell you that in Osun West senatorial zone.
“We need governor, we have many responsible, cultured, experienced, qualified and well trained people that will not disappoint us if given the opportunity, so that the landmark achievements of the APC-led administration can be sustained and worked upon to ensure continuity”, he added.
