Manchester United failed with a £50million bid for Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey in the summer, according to beIN Sports.

Ramsey appeared set to commit his long-term future to the club earlier this month, but Arsenal have withdrawn their offer and the player is now set to leave next summer on a lucrative free transfer.

Gunners boss, Unai Emery, had initially earmarked Ramsey as a key component of his side upon succeeding Arsene Wenger, but now reportedly accepts the 27-year-old is not compatible with the system he is attempting to implement.

Ramsey has failed to score in seven appearances this season and provided his first assists in last Sunday’s 2-0 win over Everton.

Arsenal are now in a similar situation to the one they found themselves in 12 months ago when Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil were winding down their contract.

Ozil ultimately stayed, but Sanchez moved to Old Trafford in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction. And the Chilean could have been joined by Ramsey in the summer had Arsenal not rejected Jose Mourinho’s bid.

United are expected to continue to monitor Ramsey’s situation along with Chelsea and a trio of Italian clubs including AC Milan, Juventus and Lazio.
