The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on penalties to successfully defend their Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) title in Ghana of Saturday.

Both sides had played in the the group phase of the competition, with South Africa coming out on top and have stayed unbeaten on their way to the final.

The South Africans were gunning for their first AWCON title in history, but their efforts proved abortive throughout the thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, as Nigeria won 4-3 in the shootouts.

The triumph means the Falcons have won the title a total of 9 times, and a third title consecutively.
