Oshiomhole celebrates Saraki’s loss
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday celebrated the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly polls, especially the defeat of the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, in the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
Oshiomhole, who spoke to State House correspondents soon after President Muhammadu Buhari was handed his Certificate of Return by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, said Saraki’s loss confirmed that democracy was a “leveller.”
Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress had defeated Saraki by polling 123,808 votes, while the Senate President scored 68, 994 votes.
The APC chairman said, “As much as we want to be magnanimous in victory, there are a couple of things that have happened that show that the Nigerian people know how to reward those who are extremely arrogant.
“People who came to the Senate with less than 100,000 votes, and began to hold the country to ransom; their own people have recalled them home.
“While we were saying that we would impeach them, their people said they would rather bury them. Politically, now, they are out. It shows the power of democracy; it is a leveller; you cannot be bigger than the people.”
On President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory, Oshiomhole said, “I am happy that Nigerians have renewed overwhelmingly the mandate of Mr President.”
