We hope to contest in gov election —Rivers APC
AHEAD of the March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections, the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has expressed the hope of being on the ballot and contesting the elections.
A chieftain of the APC, Mrs Maureen Tamuno, said the party still had a case in the Court of Appeal, which bordered on its participation in the elections in the state.
Speaking on Sunday during a thanksgiving service on President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory held at the St. Martin’s Anglican Church in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Tamuno said the party could consider a political realignment based on the outcome of the matter in court.
It would be recalled that a Federal High Court in Rivers State had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove the state APC candidates from the list of those contesting for the 2019 general elections.
But Tamuno pointed out that APC members were preparing for the governorship and House of Assembly polls.
She said, “APC members are preparing for the March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State. We will get direction from our leader, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The most important thing is that we must exercise our franchise on March 9, 2019.”
