An early morning inferno on Thursday killed a man at the Shehu of Borno’s guest house at the University of Lagos, Akoka.
The deceased, who was said to be a brother to the monarch, Umar Abubakar Garbai, will be flown to Borno State for burial.
It was gathered that the deceased was on the monarch’s entourage to the institution’s convocation ceremony.
The Shehu of Borno is UNILAG Chancellor.
It was also learnt that the fire started at about 2:00am while all occupants of the complex were asleep.
Unfortunately, the deceased was reportedly suffocated before rescue agencies got to the premises.

He said the fire affected four rooms- A12 to A15 in the guest house, adding that the rooms were located on the third floor of the complex.
“The building was fully occupied because of the convocation ceremony today. We do not know the cause of the fire yet, but emergency agencies acted swiftly and were able to contain the situation within 30 minutes.
“Unfortunately, the brother of the Shehu of Borno died before help got to him. He suffocated,” the NEMA official said.
