Chairman South East Governors forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, Chief Dave Umahi on Thursday said the zone is set to launch its own regional security outfit.

He stated this while addressing the Vice President of the country,



Professor Yemi Osinbajo at the Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki, the State Capital.

The Governor said the outfit will help to boost the security in the region and adequate security of lives and properties of the people.

Mr. Osibanjo was in the state to flag-off of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Clinics for viable enterprises (MSME Clinics).

Umahi told the Vice President that Governors and other Leaders in the zone were doing everything possible to secure the people of the zone.

According to him, the governors of the region will ensure that the outfit to be unveiled is within the ambit of what the constitution stipulates

He said: “We have been challenged so much in the south east because of security problems. Our people are mainly traders and farmers and when movement is not free, it is a problem and so, security is the problem of everybody, I want to assure that we are doing everything possible together with you and Mr. President to secure our people.

“We will not break the constitution to satisfy our people. We have our own Amotekun with us and we will soon unveil it within the limit of the constitution of the federal republic,” he said.

He called for the amendment of the electoral law to checkmate the infiltration of small and big arms by politicians into the country to win elections, adding that the success of next general elections would depend on the type of electoral law that the nation will come up with.

Umahi called on the Vice President to factor the building of a standard industry per state in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Clinics for viable enterprises (MSME Clinics) project.

He described power and gas as very crucial in the survival of small and medium enterprise and called on the federal government to improve them in the south east.

Earlier, the Vice President said the federal government will take steps and address all the issues affecting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the country.
