Nigerian Mixed Martial Art champion, Kamaru Usman, is puzzled and has queried the whereabouts of the President Muhammadu Buhari over the ongoing #EndSARS protest.
The champion took to his Instagram account to express his unhappiness over the current situation of things in the country. In the video, Usman asked why the president has not come out to address the nation over the ongoing protest.
He said, “It is tough right now for me to understand what is going on in my own country and just how things have gotten to the point. This is something that has been a long time in the works, it has been a long time coming dating back to my father’s generation. This is something that has been a long time coming but as things start to unfold, it is so heartbreaking to watch, all the destruction and chaos that is going on right now.
“Where is our president? Where is Mr President? Where are you Mr President? Buhari, how is it that these last days are lasting for more than two-three days before you take notice? How is this going on for so long to the point that you cannot just come out, open your arms and talk to your children, talk to your country? Talk to us. We are all your children, Mr Buhari. How is it that you cannot just come out; lay it out for us?”
Usman stated that the government has failed its citizens.
He said, “You have been elected as our president to lead us and you guys have failed. You guys have been failing for a long time and that is why it has gotten to this point. Now it is time to wake up, stand up and change. What I am seeing every day, all the killings that are taking place; all the destructions that are taking place we have been set back a long time but this has set us back even further.
“You can be the one to step in and bring this to a halt. But for some reason, silence is going on long enough. Buhari, you need to step up. The government needs to step up and they need to change the country. We are one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful nation in the world. For us to be in this situation is heartbreaking.”
The MMA champion further pledged his support for the ongoing protest.
“My heart goes out to all my family there every one of the Nigerian that is still there, my heart goes out to every one of you. My heart is with you, we will get past this. I am praying with you. My heart is with you guys; peace and love. I am watching closely. Anything I can do from my side, I will absolutely raise awareness for this because we have to change. We have to be better. We have to change the narrative right now. Peace,” Usman said.
