A 32-year-old iron bender, Francis Stephen, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The accused person reportedly committed the crime on April 21, 2021, at Oke-Atan area in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused person conspired with others still at large to steal a Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle with registration number, AGL 732 QM, chassis number, MD2A18AY8KWJ188845 and engine number, DUZWLK80349.

The prosecutor said the stolen motorcycle, which is worth N235,000, belonged to one Mr Peter Olaiya.

He said the accused person also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breakdown of law and order in the area, as he and the others at large attacked the complainant.

The offence committed contravened Sections 249(d), 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him

The defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms, pledging that he would not jump bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate, Mrs Busayo Adediwura, granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She added that the surety must produce three years’ tax clearance certificate.

The case was adjourned till July 16, 2021, for substantive hearing.
