Former Manchester City midfielder, Nigel de Jong, has slammed Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, following the Red Devils’ Champions League 2-2 draw with Atalanta on Tuesday night.
De Jong said Maguire is ‘getting exposed every week’ after the defender once again struggled in Man United’s draw with Atalanta.
During the match, Duvan Zapata had beat the offside trap, evading a challenge from Maguire and lifting the ball past David de Gea.
Man United drew with Atalanta, thanks to Ronaldo’s two goals as Josip Ilicic and Duvan Zapata also scored for the host.
Following Atalanta’s second goal, De Jong wrote on Twitter: “Maguire again. Smh. Getting exposed every week now.
“Instead of stepping forward, his tendency is always to step back.”
Meanwhile, Maguire has endured a difficult period following his return from injury.
The centre-back was part of the Man United defence that conceded four goals against Leicester City and five against Liverpool in the Premier League last month.
He will hope to lead Man United to victory when they take on Manchester City this weekend.
