Joshua has released a list of bleak predictions for the New Year 2016, particularly directed towards the continent of Africa.<br /> <br /> Known for his unconventional antics, Joshua shunned protocol by cancelling his yearly ‘crossover service’, opting rather to address followers live on Christian television network Emmanuel TV from an undisclosed location.<br /> <a id="more" name="more"></a><br /> <br /> “There will be large scale scarcity, shortage of food,” Joshua, who is the Pastor of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) based in Lagos, Nigeria, began.<br /> <br /> “As a state, country, continent, we have to go back to the farm to arrest, to alleviate the forthcoming situation,” he emphasised in the ‘prophecy’ which was later posted on the ministry’s official Facebook page.<br /> <br /> “I encourage the governments of all nations to invest in agriculture and to grant loans to deserving citizens to augment this effort,” he went on.<br /> <br /> Joshua, who was recently named one of the world’s most famous prophets by an American ranking website, spoke scathingly about Africa, citing the continent’s inability to manage its teeming resources as its major bane. “The continent of Africa – how much have we disappointed God,” he soberly noted.<br /> <br /> “Africa is supposed to be the breadbasket of the world. We are supposed to produce a large quantum of food for the world. This is our natural resource base. Food should be our primary export to other continents, food in exchange for technology,” he continued.<br /> <br /> Moving on to the political scene, the cleric called on African leaders to “quickly arrest the political situation.”<br /> <br /> He stated that the frequency of terrorist attacks in the continent would increase. “More African countries will be under siege by terrorists because of pros and cons in choosing leaders. Mishandling of electoral processes will create a conducive atmosphere for terrorists.”<br /> <br /> Joshua continued that people will stop investing in politics because of “limited resources and challenges”, adding that this would pave the way for those with genuine intentions to run for political office.<br /> <br /> “When you are genuinely called to do the job, you will do it because of your love for it and not because of money,” he stated.<br /> <br /> “This year, do what you love. There’s money in love. Money in love brings peace and tranquillity,” he further admonished.<br /> <br /> Joshua’s prediction closed with a prayer for Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. “He has good intentions but a king’s intentions cannot be carried out properly without the support of the subjects. He needs your support to lead us out of the valley,” the cleric stated.<br /> <br /> “The president will do everything to reject revaluation of the naira – which is a good idea from a good leader. But there will be overwhelming pressure which he will not be able to resist. Nigerians, support and pray for your leader. The future is crying for help,” he vividly described.<br /> <br /> Despite the worrisome nature of his predictions, Joshua termed 2016 ‘The Year Of Reward’, stating that believers would be strengthened in the midst of their struggles.<br /> <br /> “Start your year on your knees,” he advised, adding it was an ‘instruction from God’ for believers to begin and end their days in heartfelt prayer.<br /> <br /> "What you were destined to become, this is the year to become it because this is the year of reward,” the cleric declared while on his knees in a location surrounded by trees and water.<br /> <br /> "The voice of weeping, sorrow, setback and sickness shall be silenced, in the name of Jesus Christ,” he further prayed.<br /> <br /> A day earlier on Wednesday 30th December 2015, Joshua posted a sermon about the dangers of offence on YouTube, a topic he further addressed in the live broadcast.<br /> <br /> “Just because you were mistreated, persecuted, lied against, cheated or wrongly accused, as a believer, you do not have permission or the right to hold on to offence,” he counselled.<br /> <br /> “Two wrongs do not make a right,” he declared, calling on people to ‘let go of offence’.<br /> <br /> “When you retain an offence in your heart, you filter everything through it,” he said, explaining that although offence was unavoidable, the response of people to it was what really counted.<br /> <br /> Joshua counts several African leaders among his followers, including the newly elected President of Tanzania John Magufuli who has been unanimously lauded for the positive strides the East African nation has taken since the start of his presidency.<br /> <br /> His television station Emmanuel TV was added to the DSTV bouquet in November 2015, bringing the Nigerian cleric to an even wider audience across Africa.<br /> <br /> According to an announcement on Facebook, Joshua is set to return to ministration at The SCOAN after a lengthy seven month absence this Sunday 4th January 2016.

Although the challenges might be many, he said there was the courage and determination to rise up and tackle them.<br /> <br /> Odigie-Oyegun said, “I want to give a firm assurance that all the promises made by the party in respect of the 2015 election, to Nigerians will be kept. The New Year holds great dividends for Nigerians when the policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration are enforced full blast in the 2016 financial year.<br /> <br /> “The unprecedented N6.08tn ‘Budget of Change’ presented by the President to a joint session of the 8th National Assembly on December 22, 2015 provides ample framework to deliver on these promises.<br /> <br /> “These include the proposed social welfare programmes, which will pay unemployed Nigerian graduates (post-NYSC grant); feed school children and cater for a larger population of the poorest and most vulnerable Nigerians.”<br /> <br /> According to him, as a result of the full implementation of the Treasury Single Account, the Federal Government is now able to, in real-time, electronically track and monitor all government revenue inflows and disbursements, a development that has greatly plugged revenue leakages.<br /> <br /> He argued that in line with the party’s promise to restructure the country’s oil and gas sector which had been marred by corruption and inefficiencies, government had set in motion a mechanism to unbundle the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to enhance productivity, transparency and accountability.<br /> <br /> Odigie-Oyegun explained that President Buhari’s administration inherited a corruption-tainted subsidy regime ran by corrupt cartels. He said oil cartels and their cronies resisting change had continued to blackmail and sabotage government’s effort on the issue of subsidy and availability of petroleum products.<br /> <br /> He said to this end, the presidential directive to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency to adjust its pricing template to reflect competitive and market driven components should be supported.<br /> <br /> “A review of PPPRA’s pricing template will result in a more efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also result in constant availability of fuel nationwide,” he said.<br /> <br /> On the war against the Boko Haram insurgency, the party chairman said it was also reassuring that Nigeria’s war against insurgency was being won. With their welfare now taken more seriously, he said the morale of Nigeria’s troops in combat areas had been heightened.<br /> <br /> He added that the international community had shown cooperation with Nigeria’s military offensives, including sharing of intelligence information to end insurgency in Nigeria as part of the efforts to combat global terrorism.<br /> <br /> Odigie-Oyegun took a swipe at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. He accused the PDP of being shameless and desperate in its attempt to discredit President Buhari’s anti-corruption efforts.<br /> <br /> He expressed delight that this notwithstanding, the war against graft was being won. He said it was reassuring that the Federal Government had recovered huge sums from looters of the nation’s common wealth, which would be injected into the 2016 National Budget.<br /> <br /> The party also urged its members to be law abiding and shun acts capable of bringing it into disrepute. It also appealed to members of the National Assembly to rise above ethnic, sectional and party differences in passing the 2016 budget submitted by President Buhari.<br /> <br /> Speaking in a similar vein, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urged Nigerians to reflect on and dedicate themselves to unity, equity, security and development as they welcome the New Year.<br /> <br /> Atiku said this in a New Year message issued by his media office in Abuja, on Thursday.<br /> <br /> According to him, every New Year, such as this, is a prime time for inner self reflection, stocktaking, resolutions and covenants.<br /> <br /> The former Vice President said, “I urge my compatriots to remember their country in their every day prayers and actions throughout 2016 and beyond. My thinking is that it means what they have been telling us is all lies, if they are saying they don’t have any clue on the whereabouts of the Chibok girls,” he stated in a telephone interview on Thursday.<br /> <br /> The BBOG spokesperson, Tunji Olanrewaju, stated that the BBOG would continue to hold the Federal Government accountable for the missing girls until they are rescued and re-united with their families.<br /> <br /> Buhari had, during his media chat on Wednesday, admitted that he did not know if the girls were alive or not.<br /> <br /> “There is no firm intelligence where those girls physically are and in what conditions they are, but what we learnt from our intelligence is that they (terrorists) kept on shifting them around so that they are not taken by surprise and get freed.<br /> <br /> “And a whole lot of them are not in one place and we don’t know how many divisions they (Boko Haram) have and where they are. There is no intelligence to say that the girls are alive and in one place. That is the honest truth,” the President had said.<br /> <br /> But the BBOG stated that it would hold Buhari to his promise during his inauguration on May 29, 2015, when he said the insurgency could not be said to have been won without the rescue of the schoolgirls.<br /> <br /> Olanrewaju said, “We are disappointed, because we consider it worrisome that 623 days after the abduction of the girls, we are still talking about no information or lack of intelligence about the whereabouts of the Chibok girls. This for us shows that the expected solution to the lingering insurgency is not near at all and what it also exposed is the inadequacy of the intelligence gathering capacity of the DSS and all the security agencies put together.<br /> <br /> “Some terrorists are holding people captive and you don’t have information about them or where they are being held up. It is very disappointing. There is a lot of inadequacy that this is exposing.<br /> <br /> “Based on what the President said at his inauguration on May 29, the counter-insurgency war could not have been won without the rescue of the Chibok girls and so we stand on that.<br /> <br /> “The counter-insurgency war will not be over until we have a closure on the abducted 219 Chibok girls. We reject dearth of information and intelligence on their whereabouts totally. We are compelled to continue with our demand that this government must account for the girls. They must rescue them and they must reunite every one of them with their families and parents.”<br /> <br /> Commenting on the claim by the government that it had defeated Boko Haram technically, the BBOG described the claim as “bogus and pure grandstanding by the Information minister.”<br /> <br /> The group acknowledged the fact that Boko Haram had been degraded, but noted that the sect was still occupying three local government areas in Borno State.<br /> <br /> Olanrewaju insisted that the government could not claim to have defeated the terror group if it could still carry out attacks and kill as many as 50 Nigerians in one attack.<br /> <br /> He said, “The position that Boko Haram has been defeated is pure grandstanding by the minister. He also went further to say the media should stop glamourising Boko Haram attacks. That is double standard. The media has been keeping the nation abreast of what is going on in the insurgency and counter-insurgency operation. He cannot ask them to suppress information on it.<br /> <br /> “That the military has met the December deadline is pure grandstanding. We do not think Nigeria controls every shred of territory right now, because we have credible information that Boko Haram still controls three local governments. A lot has been done and that we acknowledge.<br /> <br /> “We know that the capacity of Boko Haram to launch large scale attacks has been reduced, but I don’t think the President is correct to claim technical victory, because as long as Boko Haram can kill 50 Nigerians, you can’t claim technical victory.”

But having not done so, we are going to come up with a new decision on the fine by Monday.”<br /> <br /> Reacting, MTN Nigeria’s External Relations Manager, Mr. Funso Aina said that “when a case is in court, there is a limit to the comments that could be made, suffice it to say that based on the lis pendens rule (pending legal action) all parties are enjoined to restrain from taking further action until the matter is finally determined.<br /> <br /> “Notwithstanding the lawsuit, we will continue to engage with the Nigerian Authorities to try and ensure an amicable resolution in the best interests of the company, its stakeholders and the Nigerian authorities. We urge our customers not to panic as we do not envisage any disruption to our operations.”
