4. Use online banking to avoid paper statement fees: Now that most banks offer online services, members may have to pay extra for paper statements. As long as you have a computer and internet connection, you can avoid those paper statement fees.<br />

You can save money by choosing an option that matches the way you prefer using your account. For instance, if you prefer going inside the bank to talk to a teller, you may have to pay a fee unless your account covers the service. Other accounts may charge for using the ATMs.<br />

7. Ask the bank to waive fees: Banks want to make extra money by charging fees, but they don’t want to lose long-term customers over piddling amounts. Mr. Adamu Asaph, a man who lives in Abuja has been arrested for stealing two packs of condom worth N3,000.<br />

According to reports, Adamu was on Friday arraigned before a Grade One Area Court at the FCT for the offence.<br />
<br />
Police prosecutor, A. Z. Dalhatu, said the condoms were property of Society for Public Health which were kept in the company’s custody.<br />
<br />
Adamu denied the charges.<br />
<br />
The presiding judge, Sadiq Abubakar, released him on bail in the sum of N5,000 and a surety that resides within the court’s jurisdiction.<br />
<br />
The case was adjourned to September 5th.

The Nigerian Navy has foiled an attempt by suspected sea pirates to hijack and abduct 13 foreign nationals on board a merchant ship leaving Nigeria for Cameroon.<br />

Briefing journalists on Friday at Bonny, Rivers, Capt. Mustapha Hassan, the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Nwamba, who led the rescue operation, said the 13 foreigners were rescued unharmed.<br />
<br />
Hassan said the crew members, including the ship’s captain, were of mixed nationalities consisting of seven Philippinos, two Romanians, one Russian, one Polish, one Indian and one Croatian.<br />
<br />
Hassan said that troops were unable to apprehend the pirates due to poor visibility partly caused by torrential rain on the day of the rescue.<br />
<br />
He said that the navy under the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, remained committed to the safety of the nation’s waterways and maritime environment.

Officials of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) team, IfeanyiUbah FC, have signed a partnership deal with English Premier League club, West Ham United.<br />

This partnership, will see IfeanyiUbah FC wear West Ham replica jerseys from next season.<br />

A statement from the English club read: “West Ham United are delighted to announce the Club’s first ever official partnership in Africa, following the signing of a long-term agreement with Capital Oil and Gas Ind. Ltd, the principal investor in the Nigerian Professional Football League outfit, FC Ifeanyi Ubah.<br />
<br />
“Capital Oil and Gas, a company of strategic national importance in Nigeria stands out as a leading player in the downstream subsector of Nigeria’s Petroleum industry and the fastest growing indigenous Oil and Gas company in the West African sub region with a vision to become Africa’s first choice provider of energy solutions through innovation, strategic partnership and clientele value added service delivery.<br />

“The partnership will provide Capital Oil and Gas with a range of rights to promote the business through the football club, driving visibility and awareness as well as focusing on B2B interaction through the use of hospitality at the Hammers’ iconic new home.<br />

His fee of an initial £27m, plus another £5m in add-ons, dwarfs the £13m shelled out to Newcastle earlier in the window for winger Andros Townsend.<br />

It also means that Liverpool have recouped the money spent on him a year ago, rendering their hardline stance over his valuation a triumph. They insisted that Benteke would not be sold on the cheap - as a "present" - despite his status as a fringe player.<br />
