The National Emergency Management Agency on Saturday distributed relief materials to survivors of the twin bomb blasts at the Gombe Central market, Gombe.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that victims of the Dukku windstorm and those of the flood disaster in Wurodole village of Akko Local Government Area of the state, also benefited from the relief package.


Presenting the materials, Malam Saidu Minin, Head of Operations, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba offices of NEMA, said the assistance followed a joint assessment carried out by NEMA, Gombe and the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency.

The relief materials distributed include; foodstuff such as bags of rice, maize and millet.

Other non-food items distributed include; roofing sheets, nails, ceiling boards, cements, and mattresses.

According to Minin, the assessment took cognisance of the extent of damage, number of households affected and the number of dead/injured persons.

“The Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi, approved the relief materials made up of food and non-food items,” he said.

In his remarks, Dr Danlami Rukuje, Executive Secretary, SEMA Gombe State, commended the tolerance of those affected by the disaster.

He said knowing the topography of the state, people should take cognisance of proactive measures by planting trees at the edge of their farms to curtail natural disasters.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Muhammad Giwa, from Dukku, thanked NEMA for the gesture, assuring that the items would reach the targeted persons.
